Jun 16, 2011I purchased a used Compaq laptop with a Realtek USB wireless adapter. The laptop came with XP Pro. I connected the adapter and everything worked great. My husband got a virus I couldn't remove. I have the CD for XP Home so I did a clean install.Windows works fine. I connected the USB wireless adapter and ran the installation disk. When I open Realtek to connect nothing appears in the available networks. I checked the device mgr and it says Realtek is working. I turned off my 2Wire gateway and then reconnected it. I doubled checked that the Windows wireless utility is disabled. Still no available networks. Everything was fine before the reinstall of Windows XP Home.

Sep 22, 2012I can't get a wireless adapter to work on my newly purchased desktop. Tried 2 different brands, same result: After installing drivers, resetting wireless router etc. the wireless connection sometimes shows up but can't be connected to. I used:
1) TP link wireless adapter
2) Netgear N600 wireless dual band usb adapter.
The netgear one I'm using right now just says, "scanning" constantly. Here's diagnostics:

Nov 3, 2012I've found my old (1, or 2 years old) Realtek RTL8187B USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter. I plugged in into my PC, but it doesn't find any networks, but it works 100% on my laptop. On PC windows said, that maybe something wrong with the driver, I reinstalled it a few times, but same happened again, again. Both has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

- The ethernet connection WORKS
- The fn+f2 wireless switch combo seems to do nothing
- I've updated the bios
- I've uninstalled and installed the latest driver
- I've installed external USB wireless adapter but it has same issue
- I've scanned for malware, all clean.
When I go to network adapters it has signal bars on the wireless adapter but when I right click -> connect disconnect -> nothing shows as available. If I diagnose, it just says there may be a problem with the wireless adapter. I've tried DISABLING ZoneAlarm firewall to no avail also.

Jan 17, 2012So I can't seem to get anything to work lately... Sad that I can't even get a wireless adapter running now...
So this is a new Wireless-G Notebook Adapter(WPGC54G v1.2) I just got in the mail today. I went to the linksys/cisco website and they only have version 1, 2, 3, etc. Mine says 1.2 so I tried version 1. After installing and following all steps it said the software that connects was inactive.
After searching the internet a bit I found a thread stating v1.2 is version 2. So, I downloaded version 2 and ran that. Now the software isn't inactive but it doesn't "connect" in the linksys software, show any wireless devices, or do anything. I went into device manager and found the wireless card, updated drivers manually, and selected the folder I downloaded from linksys website to search for update drivers. It all ran fine and said drivers were installed. Still won't work. LINK light is not on card, POWER is.
Using a Toshiba Tecra 9000. So my last attempt... I uninstalled everything and stuck the card in and let windows recognize it. Selected manual install, went to the folder I downloaded for ver. 2 to search for drivers. Said everything installed and did drivers successfully but windows says "wireless network unavailable."

But I know the physical adaptor is working because I was able to successfully install it onto another computer (it was a windows 8 preview version).

My roommate's laptop connects to it with max bars. So, i got my old usb adapter, which works fine on my desktop(i tested it), and it cant make the laptop use the adapter instead of the built in wireless adapter. I have tried disabling the built in adapter and it just tells me that i cannot connect to the internet. The usb adapter is enabled but it has a red X on the side of the picture.

Airlink+ 802.11g 2.0 (old) Works with XP but not on W7 (blinks)
WifiMAX Dongle 802.11g 2.0 (also old) (Sometimes blinks at intervals)
TrendNET TEW-644UB (bought last year) (Light stays on/no longer blinks)
Netgear WNA3100 (arrived just a few hours ago) (I made it blink now with its software)
I have tried(netgear):
-rebooting
-installing/uninstalling drivers
-uninstalling itunes
-Using a W8 procedure for it
-tried using different software
-Some other stuff
I have not tried a HKEY codes for it My biggest problem is that the "Disabled" status is stuck and I cannot re-enable it. If there is a way to override this I would be happy to hear it. May 18, 2011I have a Dlink Wireless N Xtreme DIR-655 I have run out of port 4 on it to a switch with a cat 5 patch cable that is 25 ft long It is connected to the Internet port on a Dlink 4 port switch. When i run from that on any of the 4 ports back to my computer ( Win7). I get no internet access but if i connect the cable straight from the router there is no problem. I even attempted to use a older dlink router for the switches and no luck there at all. Any reason the internet would not be broadcasting through the switch.

Jan 4, 2010I had been using my Linksys wireless-G PCI adapter WMP54Gv4 in a PC running XP (SP3) and an Airport Extreme wireless router for the past 4 or 5 years without any issues. Then recently, my wireless signal had become flaky on all client machines (on both PC and various Macs, which reported weak signal and kept dropping and searching for a new PPPoE from my DSL line). AT&T verified our line was fine and even sent a new modem but troubles persisted, so I bought a new Airport Extreme last week. This solved the network reliability issue on the Macs just fine.
However, the PC with the WMP54Gv4 adapter now crashes whenever the new Airport Extreme is turned on. There have been no hardware or software changes on the PC, yet it now reliably produces a BSOD stating "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". This crash also happens when booting in safe mode with networking. I can avoid the system crash when booting in safe mode without networking or booting normally without my Airport Extreme turned on, though I do see this error: "Linksys Wireless Network Monitor: Access violation at address 0040756D in module EMP54Gv4.exe"
So I cannot run any tests of the PCI card on the machine when the wireless network is on, since the operating system crashes.
The evidence thus points to an explanation where my wireless network from the new Airport Extreme is tripping up the operation of the linksys wireless card in a way that XP hates. I know the wireless network is OK, since it works fine on my Macs. I confirmed that my driver (v3.0.3.0) is still listed as current for this PCI card, so it's not a matter of having an out-of-date driver.
Here's another observation that may be relevant: When I first started using the new Airport Extreme with WPA2 protection, the PC could run without crashing, but it could not connect to the wireless network. I also had trouble connecting via my Macs. Then I switched the Airport Extreme to use WPA/WPA2 security, which is when the network-based PC crashing ensued (though the Macs can now connect just fine).

Jun 19, 2011For the past year my wireless has been working great and I have being playing games/doing homework with no hassle. Yestetday my internet connection became very slow. After countless restarts, router/modem resets nothing has changed and I only get like 5kb of download speed. Since my internet connection was lost naturally I unplugged the wireless card and re-plugged it, didn't change anything. After that I restarted my computer, but nothing changed. AFTER THAT I unplugged my router, then reset my router to factory settings, which did not change anything. Since everything was backed up I thought I would reinstall Windows 7 to nuke any hidden problems. After 2 reinstalls of Windows 7, nothing has changed. Next I had Comcast reset my connection with them which did not work. Though it did work with my brothers desktop. After some more time just fiddling around my connection went back to lightning speeds. no.....4 hours later my connection went dead.At all times my computer will see my network but it either will not connect to it or it is really really slow now.

Mar 28, 2011I have an HP W7 (Home Premium) PC.
I have a wired connection (on-systemboard network interface) to a Belkin 54g router, but the router is not physically connected to the internet (no ethernet cable out to a cable modem/whatever). The router connects several necessary peripherals - mostly wirelessly to the main PC and another W7 PC.) All this stuff worked prior to a move to a new location.
There is freely accessible Wifi in range (public library - wherein I could concievably carry the whole PC and use their WiFi with their blessing).
I attached a USB Wifi adapter to the PC to avail myself of the free service, but W7 will not allow the Wifi adapter to be seen until I detach the ethernet wire. Then it will allow me to see the available network, and connect.
How does W7 (or the system board) look at network? Are they (onboard NIC and USB) mutually exclusive? Do I need a separate ethernet adapter card or a separate USB adapter card to create a different "channel" that would allow the two networks to coexist?
