Wireless :: Router Became Invisible To Laptop?
Jan 13, 2011
My wireless became invisible to my laptop for no obvious reason while I was working on it. I thought that router has broken but it seems to work fine for other laptop in the same room and for my blackberry. My laptop can see other networks in area but not mine. The problem is that we share wireless with this office and router itself is not accessible to me. They don't want to unplug it and the plug it again or reset because of the risk for office. Doesn't seem to be my laptop's fault.I have tried a number ip adressess to access router remotely but none of them work. Is there a program I could download to access it remotely? Also, I have no idea what kind of router it is. It says BT Fusion in its name.

2Wire 2700HG-E-Gateway is my main modem supplied by my ISP)from there it branches off to two seperate areas.Section One consists of 2 wireless connect laptops, both Vista, and one hardwired desktop, XP. All of these can see eachother and share files, printers and run just peachy.Section Two is hardwired straight from the 2Wire 2700HG-E-Gateway over to a Linksys router, WRT54G. From this router i have a destktop computer, XP, a xbox 360, and a ps3 all hardwired into it. All 3 of these devices can find and interact with eachother. They all connect and run internet fine also. Now my question is, how can i make my section 2 units be discoverable by section one and vise versa? I have fiddled with settings in my linksys settings but i just cant get it to work. Currently the linksys is set to gateway instead of router, i thought it would be an easy fix and change it to router but when i do that i lose internet on all section 2 devices. Now i have a basic understanding of networking but when it starts getting into changing numbers and ips and subnet and that stuff i get lost.

My friend is invisible to ping requests. I know he is online because he is on my Gtalk friend's list. This is because he is using Windows 7. Earlier, when he was on Win XP, he responded to ping requests. He said that he didn't mess with the firewall settings. Therefore this feature comes default with 7.I'm using XP and I don't want to change to 7 right now. Can I get this feature?

I'm configuring an 1140 and trying to make it invisable to any user that doesnt know the SSID. The SSID is not broadcast, however my clients see "Other Network" in their list of available networks. Short of turning off the AP is there any way through the 1140's configuration to prevent this "Other Network" from showing up in the clients available networks list.

Note If you configure VPN, the client dynamically adds invisible NAT rules to the end of this section. Be sure that you do not configure a twice NAT rule in this section that might match your VPN traffic, instead of matching the invisible rule. If VPN does not work due to NAT failure, consider adding twice NAT rules to section 3 instead.

I've had the VPN client operational on my Windows 7 32-bit laptop for many months without issue, but suddenly it became invisible. Launching it, there is no GUI displayed. When I click on the taskbar icon, nothing, click again, nothing. That said, when I know it should be visible on the screen in the foreground, I can press enter and get the default connection to connect! I can see status, log window, About, but no main window. It's there, but perfectly transparent or something. There is no other monitor or shadow monitor it could be hiding on, nor is it shoved off to a periphery of the display somewhere. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version. I'm not aware of any display related updates to my machine.

They've been networked together for over a year now,but all of a sudden,I can't get the printer to print from the laptop, but it still prints from the desktop. I re did the network wizard on both computers, and the add a printer step, but it didn't work. I also re installed the printer drivers on the laptop, but again it didn't work. When i click on the print icon,it acts like it's going to print, but I get "Printer not responding" and " Document failed to print" messages. The desktop is running Windows XP Home SP3,and the laptop is running Windows XP Professional SP3. The router is a Netgear WNR1000.

I have a Dell Dimension 4400 pc (XP SP3) connected to Linksys WRT54G2 v1.5 router with no issues. Dell Inspirion (XP) connected to router with Linksys WPC54G Wireless notebook adapter with no issues for months. A couple of days ago, purchased a Vizio Blu Ray DVD Player (VBR220) with WiFi. I connected the Vizio to the network by entering the router pin into the Vizio network set up. It worked perfectly. However at the same time, the laptop network connection dropped, and I had not been able to reconnect, although it does recognize the network signal. I click connect to the network, enter the pass phrase (using WEP 26), but it does not connect to the access point. I disabled both firewalls, but still got the same result. I attempted using the WiFi Protected Setup, and the router advised me connection failed, while the laptop advised me the same thing. When I disabled security on the router, I was able to connect to the network via laptop, however, when I restored the security on the router, the laptop could no longer connect. Today, I reset the router, restored factory default settings and reinstalled everything. The laptop was able to connect with no problem. I again connected the Vizio by inputing the router pin into the Blu Ray network settings. Again it connected with no problem, but again the laptop connection was lost immediately, and I'm again unable to restore network connection on the laptop.

After finally getting my wireless and wired routers to play nice together, I now find that my laptop won't connect. I know the wireless router is working fine, because my hp touchpad connects no problem.Lap is a dell inspiron m5030 with windows7 x64 on it.It's brand new, but I removed the dell stuff and installed win7 ultimate, as I already owned it. (and I have a thing about stuff that comes bundled...don't like...but it came that way.)I have all the drivers installed but I can't seem to even see my router.

One moment the laptop was using the wireless connection from the router in our house and the next it lost internet access and then wasn't able to recognize the SSID or connection at all on the available wireless connections. We have reset the router and restarted the laptop countless times yet the only internet access we have is on the computer the router is hooked up to.The wireless connection works neither on the laptop nor the Wii, both previously works merely hours ago and with no problems until now.We assume there is an issue with the router itself, whether it be a loose ethernet cord (which only faintly can be moved in its place). It's almost as if the router is stopping them (Wii, and laptop) from having access. When we explore the wireless internet properties on the laptop, it shows the wireless connection, yet only there and doesn't give access to it. Could it be the router, or could the company have restricted WiFi only to the computer it is hooked up to?

I've just bought a new Samsung 3 series laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit). I have two braodband lines at my home (1: Sky with standard Sky wireless router. 2: BT with Netgear wireless router). The Netgear router is primarily used for business but I also use it to connect with my old Dell laptop and my iPad. However I cant seem to connect with my new Samsung laptop to the Netgear router. I want to get rid of the Sky broadband line but neet to get the Netgear line working correctly first. If i turn the Netgear router off and then on again the laptop can see the router and picks up the wireless signal and connects for a few minutes before it drops off and then it can find it again. The laptop does similar with the Sky router except that the connection seems to last longer before it drops off and at least it can always see the Sky wireless signal for me to reconnect again.

If I get a new wireless router that is N and attach it to my desktop computer, will my laptop which has a G wireless card in it be able to work without any modification? I thought I read that N is downward compatible with B and G cards, but then I saw some kind of network adapter that is put in the USB and wondered if I'd have to do that with the laptop. I'm leaning towards a E3200 right now.

Just bought a new laptop for my mother - a Packard Bell Easynote TS with Windows 7. Attempted to connect it to our home's existing router, but have run into problems. We have two other computers in the house, both linked via ethernet to the router (a Netgear DG834Gv5) although one sometimes goes wireless with no problem whatsoever. I have been on various forums to find ways of solving this issue; I have turned off the router and laptop and rebooted both; I have checked at the router IP address to see if the SSID name is broadcasting, it is; I have added the correct MAC address to the access list as we are on WPA2-PSK (wifi protected access 2 with pre-shared key); I have tried disabling this security option in the hope it allows a connection but no; I have even tried copying the existing network configuration from the laptop than can connect wirelessly and via USB stick pasted across to the new laptop, this also failed to work. I have also been into the Device Manager to check the network adapter (ATHEROS AR5B97) is working properly and it has the latest drivers installed - it has. There is no yellow warning symbol on it. When I run a diagnostic check it results in: "Investigate router or access point issues."
Booting up the laptop reveals that there are wireless network connections available - the home one. It has a good-to-excellent signal strength, radio type = 802.11g, the SSID is showing. But when I click on 'connect', it brings up: "WINDOWS WAS UNABLE TO CONNECT TO [our SSID]"When I connect this new laptop using the ethernet cable that I sometimes run my existing laptop with, it connects to the internet with no problem at all, so it is definitely just a wireless issue. The only thing that I am aware I haven't tried is to uninstall the pre-installed 60-day trial of Norton which some suggest may block the signal (is that right?) but I have temporarily disabled it and that did nothing.

I started off with my dl speed around 2 years ago at about 210kbs. Not the best but because i live in a rural area i was happy enough. But now my connection has dropped massivly to 40kbs being the peak. The internet was faster in the stone ages -_-. Anyway, i want to figure out if its the wires in the area being faulty or as someone told me it might be my wireless router (Netgear). I'm trying to plug my laptop directly into the internet without the use of wireless to find out if it is the router being the problem. The only cable i could find an ethernet to ethernet cable. I've tried plugging into router and a bit that said modem and tried to set up a connection. It didnt work so connect my laptop to the internet without the wireless router.
