Wireless Works Wired Does Not After Installing New Router

Feb 3, 2013

Intalled a new router (Linksys Cloud 1200) yesterday. Immediately after that the 2 computers that were connected to the network could no longer access the internet. My laptop and my ipad can access the internet wirelessly. The laptop which was not connected to the network when I connected the router can access the network both wirelessly and wired. Printers attached to the network will print without a problem. Finally I took an old computer out of storage (running WinXP) and hooked it up to the wired network. It too has no problems accessing the network. So have to assume the issue is a software issue with the two computers that were hooked up to the network when I changed the router.I have read the posts here - I did a stack reset on one of the computers but no luck. I removed Norton 360 and Team Viewer which in other posts people said they had issues with...to no avail.

Since I dont have a wireless connection to the 2 computers that cannot access the internet - I cannot download TSG SysInfo. However here I did copy the ipconfig lines below from the desktop thats not responding. [code] Was working fine until I replaced the router. I tried going back to the oldrouter (Netgear) same issue - no wired internet connectivity.

N600 Belkin Router - Wireless Works But Wired Doesn't

Dec 25, 2011

I'm trying to set up a wireless network for my parents. I have a Belkin Play N600 router (model F7D8302) that I'm trying to hook up to an Acer desktop running Vista. The modem is a Siemens Speed stream 4100. I have a cable going from the ethernet port of the modem to the modem port on the router. The pc is connected to one of the other four ports in the router. The wireless works fine, but I can't get the wired connection on the desktop working. The Internet light on the modem is not on, but the modem works fine when connected directly to the pc. I've tried power cycling and resetting everything, but it's still not working.

Linksys Router E1550 - Wireless Works And Wired Doesn't?

Nov 17, 2011

I have a Cisco linksys router e1550. My wireless network is working fine, but my wired (PC) is not working?

Removing the router and having the modem connected to my PC works but when I put on my router my wired connection only works for a few seconds to none

So I think the router may be causing it, could it be the settings? Even though there at default.

Linksys E1000 V2.1 Router - Wired Works But Wireless Doesn't?

Nov 16, 2011

About 6 months ago I bought a new router (Linksys E1000 v2.1) which worked great right out of the box. A couple months later I tried to setup a home network so that my two laptops could access a shared drive on my wired desktop, but for some reason they didn't show up as being on the same network. All computers involved are running Windows 7 if that matters.

Upon a recommendation from I friend I put DD-WRT on the router and it worked fine. Setup MAC filtering and WPA2 Personal security. This worked fine for about 4 months until today.

When I got home from work today I noticed my laptop wouldn't pull up any web pages, but it said it was connected. Then I noticed my iPhone wasn't connected either. I restarted my laptop and then it wouldn't connect to the wireless either (I could see the wireless, but I would get a Could not Connect error when I tried to connect to it).

I went to my desktop and it is working just fine, it is plugged into the back of the router. I also have an AT&T MicroCell (cell phone booster) that is plugged in to the back of the router and it works fine too.

I removed the encryption and MAC filtering. I then reset to factory (or "factory" DD-WRT) and now the wireless works, but it is MUCH slower than my desktop. I ran a speedtest on my desktop and got 12 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. On my laptop, I get 0.03 Mbps down and 0.25 Mbps up.

Router Connected To Dead Wired Computer - Network Still Works?

Jan 25, 2011

MY ISP is AT&T. I have their Westell DSL modem, with a bridged connection to a Linksys wireless router. The router is connected via ethernet to a dead computer: a 7 year-old Dell desktop that will boot up but shut down right away. I have been able to connect multiple laptops wirelessly to this network. I thought an ethernet connection was required in a home network such as mine? The cable has been plugged into a dead computer for several months and frankly I'd like to get rid of the desktop. What exactly is the ethernet requirement - just to be plugged into a port? Could I theoretically just yank the ethernet card out of the desktop and use it instead of the whole dead system?

Netgear N600 Wireless Connection Works But Wired Not Working

Dec 9, 2011

I have my internet hooked up to a DSL Modem and a Wireless Router. But I had configured the Wireless Router wrong that I couldn't connect to it using a WiFi. I was going to reconfigure it but the Netgear Router was outdated that their reconfiguring URL no longer existed. So I went out and got a *NEW* Netgear Router. Prior to the *NEW* Router I had a Laptop and a PC connected via DSL Cable connected in the Wireless Router. Now with the *NEW* Router I had just purchased I connected everything just like I had done with my previous Router. Wireless Connect works great but I can't connected using the DSL Cable connection. It does not respond. I tried connecting the cables to different ports but it didn't work. My PC mainly needs the wired connection cuz it's where I play my Online games. I tried playing with my Wireless connect but it lags very bad. How to get the wired connections to work? Netgear N600 Wireless and Dual Band Router

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer Aspire One netbook. The wireless connection works great, but the wired is totally dead.

When I plug the Ethernet wire, the little led next to the port doesn't blink.

If I do ifconfig, this is the output:

There is no eth0. Is that normal?

In the "Network Connections" GUI there is an entry "Wired connection 1", its "MAC address" field is blank.

How can I make the wired connection work?

Wired Internet works on laptop but not on desktop 1) Cable modem --> Switch --> Wireless Router --> ATA Adapter for the VOIP Phone --> Desktop Worked until i had a minor power outage. After which everything stopped ie No internet. So i tried scenario 2.

2) Cable modem --> Wireless Router --> Switch --> ATA Adapter for the VOIP Phone --> Desktop Got internet working (wired and wireless) for few days and then it stopped suddenly again. I tried both the above scenariosn again, but didnt work.

3) Now I connected my laptop (which i connected via wireless only before) with wire from cable modem straight to Laptop. Interent works

D-Link DIR-651 Installing Wireless Router Downstream From Modem / Router Combo

Nov 24, 2011

I have a buddy who owns a bar and wants to install a insecure wireless router for his customers downstream from his SBC Global ATT Modem/Wireless Router combo.

-Modem/Router Combo: Actiontec GT724WG
-Downstream Unsecure Wireless Router: D-Link DIR-651

He says has 3 static ips for the modem, and 1 of the network cables coming from the modem directly into the D-Link Router. I first attempted to just plug it into the uplink, and let DCHP do its magic, but I had no luck with that. I could connect to the router but it didn't have internet.

So I restarted the downstream router, and plugged the network cable into the 1st port, and suddenly I had internet on the wireless but it would constantly go up and down, and ping times were extreme erratic.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Installing EA4500 With Cable ISP?

Jan 10, 2013

getting ready to do the install of a EA4500 with a Cable internet provider. I found the site on Cisco on how to manually install the router with Cable [URL]It advises to first install using the software that comes with the router. It then gives the following steps:

Step 1:Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.NOTE: If you are using a Mac computer to access the router’s web-based setup page, click here.

Step 2:On the Setup tab, click the MAC Address Clone sub-tab.Step 2:Check the Internet IP Address. If it has numbers, this means the router has been properly configured.

NOTE: If the Internet IP Address values are showing up 0.0.0.0, click on Release IP Address then the Renew IP Address buttons.NOTE: For wireless-B and wireless-G routers, click on the DHCP Release and DHCP Renew buttons. MY QUESTION: are the steps above something that definately will need to be done or is that in the case that it's not configured via the installation using the software?I have this same router installed at my home however I use DSL internet and my daughter uses Cable internet so I want to make sure I am positive on the steps prior to installing.

I'm running Windows XP SP3 (latest updates). I tuned off the AVG virus scan. But it still just seems to hang. BTW, I used the web interface to fully configure the router and it works fine so I could get by without Cisco Connect, but it might just be easier to use.

Can't Connect To Router But Wireless Works Elsewhere?

Mar 16, 2011

I have a Gateway desktop computer easily connected to an internet providing modem from Comcast. I have tried to set up a wireless router so that I can connect my Sony laptop, but have not succeeded. The laptop has a built in wireless device that easily connects to other wireless routers such as the one in my parent's house or my sister's house, just not the one in my own place.Connecting the laptop to the wireless router seems to be accomplished. The laptop says it has been connected and signal strength is "very good" but web browsers are unable to connect to the internet. I have tried three separate web browsers (firefox, internet explorer, and google chrome) and still nothing. The router seems to be working fine. It is a netgear N150. Power is on and the desktop, connected through the router, and then into the modem, connects just fine. This tells me internet connection is alright through the modem, right? I have tried numerous times to turn off the power and wait, then try connecting again and have not succeeded. I have done this at both the modem and the router.

I have gone into the laptop's ip settings and have marked the ip and dns addresses to automatically receive. I believe a great deal of the problem is that the laptop is not receiving any wireless bytes being sent out. I've seen the sent bytes between 84 and 378 (is this low?) but nothing is received. If I could figure this part out I feel I'd know what's wrong. The IPv4 IP address is 192.168.1.3The IPv4 Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0The IPv4 default gateway is 192.168.1.1The ipv4 DHCP server and DNS server read the same number as the default gateway. Not that I know much about these numbers. Every time the problem is encountered I strike the "diagnose" tab but to no avail, as though the laptop refuses to even try to diagnose. I have attempted to get new IP settings and reset the network adapter but the laptop, and though I receive a "repairi

Router Works Fine Hardwired But Not On Wireless

Jan 21, 2013

I can follow directions and am fairly tech-savvy, just don't have the time to troubleshoot this stuff and run my business. Here's the rundown:Router:Cisco Linksys E1000 V2

-working fine until I unplugged to move it and plugged it in
-verified with tech support the problem is not physical
-right now, am hardwired to the router, which is hardwired to the cable modem, and connectivity is fine through hardwiring
-no luck through wireless - this is the error message I get:

This webpage is not available:The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

Can't Open Ethernet Wireless Router On XP But Works With Mac

Jun 9, 2012

Our home school's having trouble attaching a wireless router to my XP PC's ethernet port. Our donated vintage Macs and XP machines are tied to the internet via a cable box's wireless router. Works just fine. Now I wish to boost the signal to a building beyond the local area by attaching a wireless router to a Dell 260 running XP. This router's IP is 192.168.11.1 (ON) and 192.168.11.100 (OFF), and I've spent hours with the Connection Wizard thing on XP trying to create a ethernet path to the router but I can't find a configuration that states an ethernet path or channel. The modem lights normally and other machines can pick up and connect with its signal but there's no real transmission, the receiver machines getting:Firefox can't find the server at [URL].Check the address for typing errors such as [URL]instead of [URL] If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.Ironically, the router works just great on the Macs, which has both Airport on to receive signals from a cable TV wireless router and also has its shared Ethernet connection on, and the ethernet side requires no IP configuration like it seems you must on the XP's internet connection page. The router in question just plugs in the Mac and transmits just fine. I would use the Mac for this purpose but I really wish to use the Dell. The Dell's current network configuration after many trials:

Wireless Connection 3
LAN / High Speed Internet
Connected, Firewalled
802.11n USB Wireless LAN Card
IP 169.18.2.7

[code]....

Oddly, the Mac's Network panel states: "The cable for built-in ethernet is connected, but your computer does not have an IP address and cannot connect the internet." Yet it does!
