Modem And Router (D-Link DIR-601) DHCP Giving Out Wrong Default Gateway

Nov 6, 2012

So network was running fine for about a year or so. Network consists of 1 Motorola SB6120 cable modem attached to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless router. All settings were default except for SSID and WPA password. One day I just couldn't access internet anymore. I've narrowed it down to the default gateway that is being given out through DHCP. The default gateway that is being given out is the IP of the modem (192.168.100.1) and not of the Router (192.168.0.1). I can't find any option on Wireless router to be able to force the gateway address when handing out the gateway IP. Theoretically I thought I should be able to put router on same subnet as modem as 192.168.100.2 but that still doesn't work. If I set the IP adresses statically on the PCs and give it the Gateway of the Router everything works fine. I should mention this is for my boss' house and basically I dont want him calling me everytime he has a friend come over and I have to talk em through setting up a Static IP.

And just for an example this is what I get if I use DHCP:

IP Address: 192.168.0.155
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1

And If I want it to work I have to change the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 I've tried updating routers firmware and reset to factory default numerous times. Is it possible for a router DHCP stop working?

Cisco Routers :: RV042 - DHCP Giving Out Wrong Default Gateway And DNS Server

Oct 3, 2012

I have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it.  I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).

The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1
IP of DNS (the one that is being handed out): 10.0.0.11

What I want to it be.
IP of Router: 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP 10.0.0.2
IP of DNS 10.0.0.2

Linksys Wired Router :: RV082 Gateway 2 Gateway VPN Can't Ping

Jul 26, 2012

We have a VPN setup between two Cisco RV082 routers, the VPN status shows as connected however I can't ping the other network.  I am unable to ping between routers, let alone ping computers behind those routers.

We have 2 branches, branch 1 is on a static IP and branch 2 is Dynamic.  I am able to connect via QuickVPN from Branch 2 to Branch 1 and remote desktop to computers, however have yet to VPN/remote desktop in the opposite direction.

To me it seems like a firewall issue at branch 2, but what's causing this.  Also they are currently running 2 differnet firmware version not sure if this would cause a problem.

Amilo Pa1510 Connected But Not Surfing (wrong Gateway IP Address)

Mar 30, 2013

I have an Amilo Pa1510 (Windows XP) and I can connect to the router but not surfing (browser doesnt load any website). I have tried the commands "ping" to my IP address and it works but ping to the default gateway IP address doesnt work either.I am using the same wireless connection right now with my smartphone. I have downloaded an app that executes the ipconfig command in my Android. I have used the same gateway IP address in my laptop but it didnt work either. I have tried to set automatically the IP addresses in my laptop without success too. I have turned off and on both laptop and router and also checked in the system window that all the processes such as DHCP and DNS servers are automatic and enabled.

Cisco Firewall :: Wrong Default Gateway VPN IPSEC ASA5510

Nov 24, 2011

I've configured a VPN IPSEC on my ASA5510. It Assigned IP/NETMASK/Gateway via a DHCP Server on the LAN.The problem is that when a client is connected to the VPN , it takes the right IP and NETMASK. ( 192.168.1.109 / 255.255.255.0) but the Default Gateway is wrong ( 192.168.1.1). It should be the default Gateway of my LAN router ( 192.168.1.229).

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54g2 Handing Out Wrong Default Gateway

Jan 19, 2012

I'd like to add a WRT54g2 to my LAN. I'd like it to communicate with my existing LAN router, and not to talk directly to the LAN. Therefore, in Basic Setup, I don't have the top part (Internet Setup) configured. Is that a mistake?But, it seems that when I enable DHCP, it hands out its own IP as gateway, and then doesn't seem to send the traffic on upstream. When I configure clients manually with the real router IP, they work fine.

So, I'd like, I guess, Linksys to forward traffic on a static route to real router. How do I do this? Adding a route to real router yields the error, "maybe default route already exists."

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can Ping From R1 To R3 SVI4 Gateway But Cannot Ping Host

Dec 12, 2011

I set this up and I can ping all the gateways but never the hosts.  I was hoping I could make these links between 6500's a mix of L2 and L3.  Check it out.  They are connected in a linear fashion R1--->R2--->R3.  I can ping from R1 to R3's SVI4 gateway but I can never ping a host on that SVI4.  I was hoping that I could use the port-channels between 6500's as routed links or as trunk links depending on the type of traffic....thought it would ease the migration.  I suppose I could always get rid of the port-channels and just make separate L2 and L3 links between the 6500's.

Cisco 2691 - Can't Ping Past Gateway

Oct 24, 2012

I've spent the last two days working on this problem and it is killing me! I know the answer has to be something simple, but despite hours of searching and trying different things, I just can't seem to fix it.Essentially, I am going to be installing a Cisco 2691 and use it as the default gateway for a small business. It will be directly connected to a cable modem with a static IP. The other Ethernet interface is going to connect to a 2950 switch with a couple different VLANs.

The problem I'm having is that I can ping anything external from the router itself. From the clients connected to the 2950, I can ping IPs in other VLANs, and I can ping up to the IP of the external interface, but no pings go beyond that.I've set up NAT overload on the router, and when I do a debug ip nat, I see the pings trying to get through with the proper translations, but I still don't receive ICMP replies back.I set up GNS3 to simulate what I'm trying to accomplish (since it emulates a 2691). Attached is a jpg of the topology -- on the right is the "simulated ISP" with 3 loopback networks and one host on a different subnet. The 2691 has a static route to the "Internet" router, and can ping everything attached to the router, including the host. The host (5.5.5.5) can also ping the outside interface of the 2691 (50.50.50.2).

However, the hosts behind the 2691 can't ping past 50.50.50.2. The 192.168.0.x network can be ignored, because that network won't need to access the Internet. But the 10.10.20.x (VLAN 20) and 10.10.30.x (VLAN 30) networks will need to. In the simulation, the hosts are 10.10.20.5 and 30.5. They can ping each other, their default gateways, and the 2691 outside interface (50.50.50.2) but not the other side, the "Internet" router at 50.50.50.1 or beyond.

Cisco Wireless :: 2811 - Can't Ping Default Gateway

Jun 9, 2012

I'm trying to get a 2811 router with a NM-AIR-WLC6 Wireless Controller Module to work with an c1200 series access point. The LWAP is connected to a 2690 switch which has a trunk connected to the router. My configuration looks very similar to example 2 on this page: [URL] . The LWAP does get an IP from the DHCP pool on the router. I can also connect to the GUI of the controller from a PC on VLAN 250 (which also is connected to the switch).

[URL]

The moment I join my Wireless network I get no IP and when I enter a valid static IP, I still can't ping the gateway. I also noticed that the controller could ping the gateway before I configured the interface. After configuring an interface with that gateway, the controller loses the ability to ping to it. I can't seem to figure out why. I've been working all week on getting this controller and LWAP to broadcast a fully working network.

Home Network :: Can Ping Gateway But Not Router And Slow Internet

Feb 21, 2011

A while ago internet access was slowed right down for an hour or so. I have a phone line that comes into the house and then into gateway (10.0.0.2) then ethernet from that to linksys wifi router (192.168.1.1). So I did the following ping and repeated what you see below a few times to see that these results were broadly consistent, which was the case. One other person is connected to linksys via ethernet cord and they might have been on at the time. Questions are.... are these results consistent with contention caused by other user on the linksys? and why can I ping gateway but not the router? That makes no sense to me! I am not annoyed with the other person if he is hogging the network...I like him. I just wonder whats going on. When the internet works results from pinging are all as one would expect

Unplugged / Replugged the net connection from the WAN port and then finally ping was successful.Now the weird this is every time I power on the router the Internet does not work and ISP Gateway seems not reachable, but if I unplug/replug the WAN connection the ping reply starts and internet works without any problem.

Cisco Firewall :: Unable To Ping Default Gateway On ASA 5510

Mar 31, 2011

We have two ASA5510s, each with outside interfaces to the same two ISPs (different IP addresses within the same subnet, of course). Both ASAs allow ICMP on all (inside and outside) interfaces. One ASA's default route is to ISP-1 and the other is to ISP-2. We can ping the default gateways for both ISPs from only one ASA. From the other ASA, we can only ping the default gateway for the default route but not the other. The pings originate from an inside client, first configured with the default gateway for ASA-1, then for ASA-2. Why does this happen, how do I troubleshoot something like this and how do I fix it?

Facts:

-All interfaces have no shut on them
-No machine can ping out to the internet gateway
-All machines can ping out to the inside interface of the firewall
-It's not a problem with the internet because I can take a laptop, enter in our outside interface information, plug it into the internet gateway, and I can get out to the internet just fine.

Cisco Firewall :: 2911 - Immediate Gateway Dropped Ping Traffic

Jun 13, 2011

I have a a firewall policy on a Cisco 2911 - the zone policy from OutZone>InZone basically drops everything apart from inspected traffic on the opposite direction and a few essential traffic generated externally (such as Outlook web access and E-mail exchanging). However, I seem to be getting a lot of firewall drops coming from the immediate gateway of the ADSL WAN address to the internal IP range on port 3. I get about 10 hits every 5 seconds.

Policy:

policy-map type inspect FWPol_Out-In
class type inspect CCP_PPTP
  pass
class type inspect FCMAP_In-Email
  pass
class type inspect FCMAP_In-OutlookWebAccess
  inspect(code)

 %FW-6-LOG_SUMMARY: 1 packet were dropped from IMMEDIATE WAN GATEWAY:0 => INTERNAL IP ADDRESS:3 (target:class)-(FWPair_Out-In:class-default), the immediate gateway would ping an internal IP address? Keepalive? Could this be stemming from another problem? The traffic  wasn't generated internally as all InZone>OutZone is inspected.

Attached are some images which show some details from the client during the VPN connect and a few from the router (i had to use the lan switch as a jump host). If you can figure this out before I go back to the coffee shop to test this tomorrow I will send you a cake.
