I've successfully added another computer to the network but the router setup seems to want the iPad to connect only as a Guest .Is there a way to treat my iPad as another computer (not as Guest) so that it my network recognizes it in the same way it recognizes the second computer (without entering a password)?

I recently was given an old computer from work. I tried to connect it to the internet at home but it wouldn't connect. The icon at the bottom shows that it is connected but the web browser shows that i'm not connected. All the computers at work are connected to a network so there may be some settings that won't allow it to connect at home. I did go on to internet options under connections and changed the default connection from the work network to broadband but still no luck. None of the proxy boxes were checked either. The OS on this computer is Windows XP. Also, all connections to my home internet are fine.

I have been using "iVPN" on the Mac to "distribute" the home Mac's Internet connection to the iPad. I have everything set up right and the VPN works fine and the iPad connects fine, just not when I am work, where I want it to work. The iPad tells me that it cannot connect to the VPN. I believe my work blocks VPN ports (1701, 1723 etc) I can do a google search from the iPad on the work WiFi so the connection is ok, but I believe those ports are blocked. If I connect the iPad to a restaurant's wifi for example, the VPN connects fine. What client can I use to create my own VPN at home where I can use a standard port like port 80 or something that is not blocked at work so that I can connect to the VPN from work?

The internet connection on my old computer has always been fine; all cables are connected correctly. However, this computer from work will not connect to the internet. The icon in the bottom right corner of the screen states that I am connected, but the internet browser claims that it is unable to display web pages. May the cause of this be related to any unique computer settings that a workplace may have on a computer in their network? My Setup is simple I have ST536v6 (firmware 7.4.4) modem in bridge mode and Cisco RV 180W connect to my ISP using Ppoe. I followed the Admin guide and created the pptp user. If I connect from internal network it connects but when I try to connect the device from WAN it just does not work.

My folks have Time Warner (Roadrunner) Internet service. They power-down their Dell every night. When they shut down last night they had no problems and were running Time Warner (Roadrunner). When they booted the computer this morning the computer is trying to connect to Adelphia.
They changed nothing. The wiring to the computer was not compromised in any way.
Time Warner tried to "ping" their modem and could not "see" the modem. They think it is a line problem - but the fact that the computer is looking to connect to an alternate service provider makes me think that it is possibly a problem with a setting in the computer.
System was running fine untill about two days ago. File and print sharing stop working. went to services and tried to restart "Computer Browser". It would not start due to a dependancy. Tried to start "Server Services" Got the following error. "Can not start Server Service on local computer, Error 2:The system cannot find the filed specified". The files srvsvc.dll 95KB 4/14/2008 The file srv.sys 327KB 4/14/2008.If I delete either of these files they are just created again. If I replace them with the new versions they are converted back to these files.I am running XP Pro SP3.

So, the bottom line is that I can access (and modify) the files across the network if I'm doing so manually, but my Windows service fails when trying to do the same thing. This is on my Apple iPad first generation. If I restart my iPad it works for an hour or so and quits. So problem is with persistent disconnection from my landlord's wireless hotspot. The usual exclamation mark at the wireless bar indicating that I'm connected to the network but I don't get internet access...I've got the computer checked up by STAPLES where I bought it and everything was in perfect shape, network card fully functional... I mean it is brand new. They even reformatted the computer and installed clean Windows 7 with no crap software in it...I brought the computer to school and internet works FLAWLESSLY. Disgustingly fast.The problem is only when I'm at home where my internet would work fine for say 5 mins and then the exclamation mark will pop at the wireless bar and I would lose internet access for half an hour or more. I would get the access back and then it would disconnect again.
I called my ISP and they suggested to change my wireless channel to a unique # say channel 11 from 1-11. Turns out the wireless channel already is on 11... I then got it changed to 1 by my landlord. Still same situation. We then tried to change the wireless security encryption (e.g WPA-personal to WPA2). My computer can't connect in that case...On a side note I do have an older laptop (~7 years old), the one I had before purchasing this new computer. This old laptop can connect to the wireless and work PERFECTLY.
So the problem happens only with this new computer, and only at home. I'm completely clueless as to what the problem might be. It looks like some kind of interference but I've tried changing wireless channel (from 11 to 1) which didn't get rid of the persistent disconnection. Could it be interference with another computer that's using the same wireless hotspot in the house?

The problem is with the WIFI connection ! my devices see the WIFI network, they connect, but I cannot connect to the internet ...
What settings Should I turn on/off or any config I should tweak ?
I am with Virgin media (UK) and have the 20mbps fiber optic connection. My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit.All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.

Whenever I go to Network and Sharing Center and try connecting to the internet, the computer simply says "Windows did not detect any networking hardware", even though the light is clearly on and should be working.
