View 1 RepliesI have some iMacs that I manage for, in addition to my primary PC computers, such as my Toshiba Windows 7 laptop, which is what I am currently most concerned with. What I would like to do, is Remote Desktop Control (I'll abbreviate that as RDC) these mac computers through the network from my Windows PC. I am aware that this is possible with either Google Chrome, or by checking an OSX setting that will allow for VNC applications to connect, but I would prefer it if there was some way to RDC these iMacs from my Windows laptop without needing to change their settings or install software-something like how Mac-Mac RDC connections work, where I can just select a computer from the network, type a password, and go.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe use Nortel VPN and the problem is that it's set so when you connect to it, you can only access company resources so no Internet. To mitigate that we use vmware and run Windows XP at the same time as our Windows 7 systems. I'd love to be able to use remote desktop though and connect to a system located elsewhere even another office computer and have that one on the VPN, but of course as soon you connect the remote desktop connection goes down with it.I'm just wondering if there's any ways around this. I'm assuming not, but I'm not sure how VPN fully works. Like if I had 2 network cards in the remote system, when I VPN in does it block connections from all network cards? Ideally I'd like to use something like Amazon Web Services since their Windows Server tier has the free option which is good, or will use another VPS type system running Windows Server.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have an Asterisk/FreePBX phone system located behind an ASA 5505 device where we are having problems with sip inspection.
We connect to three different phone providers, and things works as expected for 2 of the 3 providers,but for the last one (Draytel) we are having problems with sip inspection.
The key difference about the VoIP provider where we are having problems is that they are using differetn servers for the voice (RTP) traffic than the server we are registered with to establish SIP sessions.
sip inspection is configured with the default out of the box options.The problems we see are this:
1. For ingoing calls sip inspection does not open the required pinhole to allow the traffic to flow through. As a result we can not hear the voice of the calling party, but voice from our side is passed through ok.As a workaround we have added and ACE allowing traffic in the used UDP (RTP) range from this VoIP providers ip addresses to pass through the ASA, and with that in place incoming calls work.
2. Outgoing calls doesn't work because sip inspection doesn't kick in, and as a result of this we forward internal ip addresses in the SIP / SDP body to the VoIP provider. I'm not sure whether this is a consequence of sip inspection not kicking in for this provider, or a result of having added the ACE for an ip ragnge that covers the ip address we register with.
As stated above sip inspection does work as expected for two other providers where all traffic goes through a single server.We actually have had this working with ASA firmware 7.2(4), but as that version intermittently had a problem where sip inspection would stop working (fixable by power off/on or a clear command), then we decided to upgrade.
I have an in-law with early stages of temporal lobe dementia. She lives at home alone and is still pretty independent but among other things she is really struggling with anything to do with times and dates. Diaries and the like are increasingly hard to manage. I am wondering about a technological aid. She has a WIFI network at her home. If there was a way I could set up a MONITOR on the wall that could display say a diary or calendar that I could update and change remotely?. I'd need a PC set up there to run the display, and then connect to that over the internet and control what it shows.Either way it needs to be something I initiate and control as needed, so she doesn't have to do anything like send a remote assistance request, because she can't really manage that.

I have Symatec PCanywhere installed on both When i'm on the same connection (wireless internet).I can get it to work no problem.However when I try to remote in using a different internet connection it does not go through.
I've done some research and found out that instead of using the IP address it gives me (dynamically) [192.168.2.5] i need to aquire the WAN IP address from a website or through the router. As well as configuring virtual server through the router, and enable port forwarding in some way or another for specific ports.
