Windows 7 - Onboard Nic Disallows Usb Wifi Adapter To Work Simultaneously?
Mar 28, 2011I have an HP W7 (Home Premium) PC.
I have a wired connection (on-systemboard network interface) to a Belkin 54g router, but the router is not physically connected to the internet (no ethernet cable out to a cable modem/whatever). The router connects several necessary peripherals - mostly wirelessly to the main PC and another W7 PC.) All this stuff worked prior to a move to a new location.
There is freely accessible Wifi in range (public library - wherein I could concievably carry the whole PC and use their WiFi with their blessing).
I attached a USB Wifi adapter to the PC to avail myself of the free service, but W7 will not allow the Wifi adapter to be seen until I detach the ethernet wire. Then it will allow me to see the available network, and connect.
How does W7 (or the system board) look at network? Are they (onboard NIC and USB) mutually exclusive? Do I need a separate ethernet adapter card or a separate USB adapter card to create a different "channel" that would allow the two networks to coexist?

Everything works fine except the onboard lan doesn't work.Windows shows that there is no cable connected even though it is connected and it works. Currently I'm using the cable to write this on my laptop so that's proof that it indeed works. The bios settings for the adapter are set to enabled. I have tried the weird stuff, like unplugging for 30 min and starting again and reseting bios and holding the powerbutton for 10 sec with powercable unplugged.The cable shows that it's connected when i set speed and duplex at 10MB/s, full or half duplex, and I can ping the router but the internet eludes me.There has been no thunderstorm in the last 23 hours, I have tried the latest lan drivers from both Realtek and ASUS, there has been no windows update to mess with the system and I've tried formatting and setting up windows again.

Dec 30, 2012I'm having a problem with my onboard NVIDIA nForce Network Ethernet card. I have a XPS 730 running Windows 8 (64 bit). What is the most recent date of the driver for this adapter? I was attacked by a VERY bad virus (called SMALL) and have just got everything back to normal (I think). It may be possible that the driver for my network card is corrupted. Device Manager says driver is dated 2/23/2012 and the version is 7.3.1.7336. Is this correct? Two weeks ago the machine ran fine, Windows 8 installed without a problem.

Oct 18, 2012I have the Motorola SURFboard SG6580 cable modem/wireless router combo. However, I'm only using my Linksys WRT54GL for the wireless functions. It's been my old standard for years, not to mentioned I have my entire wireless encrypted network setup via this device.
So, recently I've been trying to set up Port Forwarding and I've been having trouble getting sites like canyouseeme.org to see the port. After speaking with Tech Support at my ISP, they had me disable some of the settings in my SURFboard modem in order to deactivate the router side of things to get it act only as a cable modem. However, my port forwarding is still not working.
Here is a screen shot of all the pertinent screens of my SG6580 properties, and what they had me set. if I have properly configured the modem to not interfere with my other wireless setup so I can at least rule this out as what's blocking my port forwarding?

Sep 22, 2012At home I have a Cisco 877 router, I also have Optus Cable internet and Telstra Business Direct DSL. I have configured the ATM interface for the Telstra DSL connection through the onboard DSL interface. I have also configured Fast Ethernet port 0 as a vlan2 port, which is configured for use with the Optus Cable internet (this is connected through an Optus Netgear CG3000 router). The Nethgear has DHCP enabled (192.168.0.xxx range), as does my Cisco 877 (10.0.0.xxx range).Firstly, the Telstra Business DSL is due to be connected tomorrow between 9am and 1pm, so it is not physically connected as yet.From my laptop connected to fa3 and using Console connection, I can ping all of the 192.168.0.xxx addresses that exist, as well as my own laptop and a VoIP phone I have connected to fa2 (laptop is 10.0.0.100, VoIP phone is 10.0.0.101 both DHCP assigned, not MAC Reserved either).I can use internet explorer on my laptop to connect to the Netgear router, but no other internet pages. I also cannot connect to my Fuji-Xerox printer at 192.168.0.20 through the web browser, yet I can ping it from the router.I don't have a huge experience with Cisco as yet, and everything I have learnt has been basically self tought. I am looking into doing my CCNA, once I achieve enough funds Now, what I am trying to achieve ideally is, to combine both the Cable and DSL services to in effect double my speed? if this isnt available, a load-balancing type of scenario would also be good. Both DSL plans have a 500gb download limit, but the reason I needed the Telstra DSL is the VoIP phones I am using won't connect through Optus (Optus have locked nearly everything out), and Optus will not give me a STATIC IP address with the Cable, whereas I have on on the Telstra DSL, I would like to Remote Desktop into my main PC eventually.

All devices on my network do not need to stay in the 192 range, they can be 10.0.0.xxx. The DHCP could be disabled on the Netgear (Cable Modem) if that's required as well.

Oct 25, 2011I just set up a brand new LinksysE4200 router at one end of my home, and a Linksys RE1000 range expander at the other end in order to provide full WiFi coverage to my entire house. Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting. I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.

I just bought a wireless N adapter (2.4GHz and 5GHz capable), and cannot get an N connection.. On 2.4GHz it connects to G only. And on 5GHz, I don't even see the whole band to connect to it.
I've tried disabling the 5GHz band on the E3000, then even setting the 2.4GHz band to no security. I still get a G only connection.My laptop can connect to 2.4GHz and get 144Mbps N speeds.Router is at latest firmware.I've researched this online, but can't find anything concrete.

Feb 23, 2012After some research, I noticed I'm having the same problem with my Inspiron N4010's wireless card as mentioned in this post. I purchased this laptop refurbished from the Dell Outlet store over a year ago.
Yes, I have tried re-installing the drivers, the BIOS is updated, and no I am not pressing that key when the wireless card randomly disables. Normally it will re-enable after a few minutes or if I keep pressing that key it may re-enable. Sometimes it will take a restart for it to re-enable.
This is a completely random problem too. I am unable to reproduce the problem.
I am just about ready to replace the card and see if that works (the laptop is out of warranty and I'm comfortable inside of a laptop so that is not an issue).

Dec 1, 2011I've had a WRT160N v3 for a couple of years, and I've noticed that the wireless security setting is often set to disabled when I go into the configuration, even though I've set to enabled previously. It goes like this....
I've setup the router to have WPA2 Personal security enabled, with a passphrase. I have several devices that use wireless that connect to it everyday. I recently received a new device, so I went into the Linksys configuration to get my passphrase, and the Security is set to disabled. So, I enable it again, configure a the device, and have no problems.
This has happened many times. I just happen to be in the router configuration and check the wireless security tab, and it is set to disabled.
My first thought was that maybe there had been a power loss (although, I can't remember the last power outage we had in my area). However, every other setting was retained, so I can't see why this would be the only one that changes (and it's a rather important setting). Additionally, I was configuring a blue-ray player last night, trying to see if it was better with a wired setting from another Access Point, and the setting was disabled, so I enabled it again. I made changes to the BR player, then changed it back to a wireless connection. I checked the security setting on the Linksys, and AGAIN it was disabled.

Is it possible to disable broadcasting that the WDR4300 is made by TP-Link? I want to continue to broadcast the SSID but not the manufacturer. I have looked in the various menu pages and cannot figure out how to have this happen.

May 21, 2013We have disabled the WebAuth SecureWeb on our 5508 WLCs so Guest users can access the guest splash page without the certifiacate error. The controllers are currently running 7.3.112.0. Everything works fine with the WebAuth SecureWeb enabled, but once we disable the guest users are not redirecting to the splash page anymore. I remember having to reload the controller in the past to disable HTTPS completely, but is this still the case? I don't see any documentation supporting the need to reload.

After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Aug 27, 2012I have a friend who is in need of a laptop or netbook only for word processing.
The device cannot have any possibility of connecting to the internet, and also cannot have a webcam. I may be able to find one without a webcam, but I think the possibility of finding one without a NIC wouldn't be easy, if at all possible.
I can only think that disabling the network adapter in registry edit will be something she won't be able to undo (she's not majorly tech savvy).
I've not purchased the laptop/netbook yet, but I would like to know if it's possible and/or how to do it before I buy it.

I've determined [but not limited it to] that the computer heating is causing the computer to automatically disable the connections. I've looked at the Drivers and have found that one of the Drivers disables itself and will not re-enable when I try to enable it again. When I try to reboot, it stalls on the Shutting Down screen indefinitely [I must force restart].
