View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a PC attached to a standard 192.168.1.1 router with port forwarding turned on. The PC has an IP of 192.168.1.10 and I have Port 3389 (RDP) on the router forwarded to that PC's internal IP.
I currently have a DynDNS hostname, example.dyndns.org, and I type that into MSTSC (remote desktop) whenever I'm traveling.
But, is there a better way of doing this? The IP of the PC is not static, but it rarely changes. I do have a domain registered with GoDaddy and have full access to DNS records.
A thunderstorm about 3 hours ago fried my DIR-655 rev. A3 router. I heard a zapping noise and that was it. All the signals are messed up, even after a hardware reset, and the router runs extermely hot, with lots intermittently blinking and no connections.
I need another router with similar features, especially with a USB port for my printer.I found the DIR-655 reliable a long as it lasted, but I never upgraded the firmware, which was fine with me. Nonetheless I want to buy a more modern solution.
Talking to tech support at D-Link the DIR-825 was recommended. Is the DIR-825 router a good router for my needs ? Is it a worhty upgrade to the DIR-655 router ? Does Shareport work well with it ?
My house is wired so any demanding network transfers are done over the wired network, wireless is reserved for casual stuff. This month my internet connection is eventually going to exceed 100Mbps so I need to dump my WRT54G and while I'm sure the RT-N66U is very nice, I could save $100 buying the RT-N16.
I have a gigabit switch that works great and handles all of the local traffic, I just need the router for DHCP, NAT, basic wireless connectivity, and it needs to be able to pull in over 100Mbps from the internet. So is the RT-N16 adequate for me?
Any good WiFi card. As accordind to my network engineer my 6 year old Netgear WG111v2 has some problem as a result the connection continuously looses connection. Although in my Laptop which has onboard Wifi the connection is consistant. Out of internal and external Wifi card which one is more reliable?

I know there's plenty of "dumb" media converter choices out there, but was hoping to get one that has a console conn or the like to troubleshoot any possible issues. I'm converting between 50nm multi-mode fiber with an SC connector to 1000-bT copper.

I'm running a Motorola Surfboard Extreme 6580 as my modem and main access point, but I have equipment downstairs in my home theater that I need LAN connections for. I want to set up another router/device as a wireless-n bridge to plug these into, and I don't want to spend more than necessary, but I want the best performance from my 6580. As the 6580 is only singal band, and my wife's computer only runs on 2.4ghz, I think I don't really need a dual band device, but a single band n device. I bought a netgear WNR2000v3 router, but when I try to bridge it (enable wireless repeating function) it tells me that I can not enable this function with AES, TKIP, or AES + TKIP enabled. The 6580 tells me I should use AES to get the best speed, and the WNR2000 won't let me use any security when bridging (the router's menu page hints tell me to enable WEP, but I don't even see an option for that, and it's pretty worthless as security I've been told). I think I need to return this WNR2000v3 and get something else.

My kids are teenagers so sometimes it is like talking to a wall trying to get them to control their internet, I can easily block them entirely as I have Mac filtering set, and I will do this, but I would like to not have to constantly check to see if they are online which is easily done with Ipods.

Here, though, it seems just unbearable: My pc loses signal quite often and even when it's constant, sometimes it just goes too slow to actually do anything: even simply loading a page takes a couple minutes! It goes slowly most of the times, although once in a while it decides to do perfectly fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a new SSD and a fresh windows install. After reinstalling everything,I connected my LAN cable and had issues that it would constantly connect and disconnect.Even the lights on the back were flashing on and off.If it stayed on long enough it would establish a connection. I am using my motherboard build in lan adapter.I have a Asus P8P67 Pro, which has the Intel 82579, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller. I was able to establish a connection perfectly fine through my wlan stick.I went to the Asus website and downloaded their drivers for the Lan Controller. This did not fix anything.I attempted numerous install and deinstall of the drivers. At that point I went directly to the Intel website and downloaded their most recent drivers. After installing the Intel drivers, I was able to keep a connection, but it was very very slow.Through Lan connection i am barely able to open up Google, but every time I attempt a speed test, the connection is too slow. Though when I connect through Wlan,I get the full connection speeds. The router I am using is a Netgear DG834G v4. Also tested various cable just incase that might be the issue. Also, when i use the same cable and connect it to my Laptop, I get the full connection and no issues.
