WR2543ND Good Long Range Antennas
Jul 4, 2013
im looking to buy some long range antennas to boost my wifi signal, i currently have a TPlink WR2543ND, which does a decent job in my house but id like to get some signal just outside my house if possible. Would this be better suited for a long range antenna or a wireless access point?

I've recently lost my ability to access the internet at uni and as this is quite an inconvenience I am considering some alternatives, the most viable one I've managed to come up with hinges on the fact that I live in a building which is only a road and another building away from the main uni buildings (3 buildings on 2 city blocks), basically it looks like this: UNI BUILDING 1 | UNI BUILDING 2 |ROAD| UNI BUILDING 3 |ROAD| MY APARTMENT.So I'm thinking of building one of these: url.. or waiting for the r20000g (dual band) to come out and buying that.THEN the area I'm having a bit of trouble with: I need to get reception about 600-700m away through buildings, so I've been looking at Yagi antennas and such but can't seem to find any information on the following:
1. Will a high powered directional antenna go through a few buildings and still make it 1km (.6 miles)
2. How directional is a directional antenna? like if I point one in the general direction of the building how accurate do I have to be? (I have no problem buying 4-5 antennas if I need to)
3. Do I need a new Wi-Fi antenna for my laptops? it seems odd to me that a laptop would be able to transmit back 1km while I need a giant antenna to get to the laptop (I know its not this simple but it still seems odd)

I have no problems with my adapter its just that my router is too far from my desktop and I need something that can reach far lengths , I don't recall what my wireless name is other than it uses 802 g type but it doesn't cut it when I want to play league of legends, so any recommendations? Also just moving my desktop is not an option

I want to create a link between two homes about 10/15 miles away from each other. I was thinking about using microwave technology to achieve this. I would like to be able to use this connection for linking two home networks/internet and possibly running iptv and voip over the link. I was hoping to operate in the unlicensed frequency.

I have a netgear WNR1000v2 which is on the other side of my house. There is about 70-80ft distance from it, and my desktop is on the top floor. Installing a LAN cable is not an option but a wireless bridge adapter is.I am looking for either:
• A long range Wireless adapter, PCI or PCIe
• A wireless bridge with long range

i am setting up a network between two houses. I have two Amped Wireless SR300 repeaters and currently I am getting so-so signal strength between the repeaters. To remedy this issue, I purchased two EnGenius EAG-2408 external antenna's.My question is how to calculate how high to mount the antenna. A formula is preferable because I do not know the exact distance off hand and I will have to go out there and measure. I am estimating approximately 75 to 100 yards for the distance. Its flat, with a few trees/brush.
Repeaters:[URL]
-Transmit Power: Up to 20 dBm
-Receiving Sensitivity: -93dBm
Antennas:[URL]
-Omni Directional Antenna
-18 degree vertical beamwidth

I currently have a D-Link DGL-4500.
I am looking for a more powerful wireless router that has a larger range. I want to have the ability to use the laptop at the house next door, so I need a range of like 150 ft, going through multiple walls (both concrete and wood) and still have enough for general Internet access.
My first question is if it's even possible and if so, what is a good router/system to use.
I would still need the ability to connect Ethernet to the router (at least 4 ports) and the wireless, obviously.
A major benefit as well would be the ability to install something like pfSense or DD-WRT onto for further management.

So Basically I have the dell d810 and the wireless on it is less than 20 ft and I cant figure out why.. My other dell laptop has perfect connection all the way down stairs and this d810 doesn't even get full connection from 10 feet away!!! I have tried to take out the wireless card and put it back in but that didn't work so I am just wandering if it is a driver issue or the wireless card is just screwed up.

Range is not good for my E2500 router. My house is on one level and spread out quite a bit. Have the router near my main computer. If I take my laptop or Iphone into my bedroom (about 70 feet away-thru 3 interior walls), I have no wi-fi. If I put the router in the middle of the attic

Model : TL-WR2543ND
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version :
ISP : I have an external HDD that I regularly use in any computer I have access. It's an HDD enclosure 2.5" 3.0 USB, with a 750GB WD HDD inside. I use it in computers with all versions of USB, even in my TV. It doens't require an external power source, and just have 01 input/output, which is a USB port. After plugging it in the router (running with the last available firmware from TP-LINK - 3.13.27 Build 121207), I entered the setup screen of the router, and under USB Settings, pressed RESCAN, but the HDD wasn't recognized. What happens is that when I plug it in the router, the LED in it starts blinking (in normal usage, the LED becomes red for a couple of seconds, and then becomes steadly blue, when it gets connected into a equipment). It is probably a matter of power, as if the router wasn't providing enough power to it when it's plugged.Afterwards, I've made the following tests:
1) Used this External HDD in 3 different equipments (a notebook, a netbook and a TV), with different versions of USB ports. It was recognized and read normally in all of them.
2) I tested a pendrive with the router. After RESCAN, it was shown normally in Storage Sharing page.
3) I have downgraded the firmware to 120509 version, plugged the HDD in the router, and once again, it was an unsuccessful try.
What I can conclude from those tests is that:
1) My External HDD is working normally;
2) The router's USB port is working properly;
3) So, if both are working, it can only be a matter of compatibility between them.

I want to get cleared is the routers which have USB sharing option like WDR4300, WR2543ND and WR1043ND (I know it's the wrong section to mention this model but I also have this one in my list.). How much users can connect to the USB drive at a time?. I'm talking about 40 or more than 40 users here. Can these routers handle the load on the USB port?. Would there be any problem if nearly all of the users are connected to the USB drive at the same time?

I have a client that has a WR2543ND (House) and WDR4300 (Office/Internet) router that are located in two separate buildings about 40ft apart. He has each one hooked up to external antennas connected on the outside of the buildings. Back in December I got WDS working between the two routers and the PC in the house was able to use the Internet in the Office as well as share resources between the office and house computers. Two days ago I was down there working on his network and I was having problems setting up network shares. I discovered I wasn't able to ping from the Office PC to the House PC or vice versa and what's even stranger, I couldn't ping the House PC from the House Router (WR2543ND). I checked WDS status and on the House Router is says "Run" but on the Office Router it says "Int" but the WDS is definitely up because I am able to ping from the Office Router to the House Router, plus I am able to use TeamViewer to connect to the House computer from the Office computer. There are no firewalls enabled on Windows. Lastly the DHCP server is only running on the Office Router.

My desktop PC which has an Asus PCE-N13 Wireless Adapter with two stock SMA antennas receives a very poor signal due to the significant distance between my desktop and the router. In order to improve my signal strength, I thought about buying better 3rd party antennas and specifically external ones which I could place closer to the router that connect to the SMA connections on my wireless adapter via a wire. There's many of these antennas for sale I see, but I'm unsure which is best suited for my situation.

My DIR-825 is not in an ideal spot so I am thinking of getting an extension cable for the antenna (probably for both), drilling a little hole in a wall and mounting the antenna in a more central location. It really is just on the other side of a wall, maybe 5 feet total for distance, but in an open area where the signal should reach more of the house.
Can I run a cable and attach the antennas five feet away from the device itself? Is there anything I should look for in an extension cable?
