I have tested internet speed on Ethernet (~20 Mbps), but when I'm connected via wifi network, it drops down to ~11 ? The speed is same on all wireless devices even when I sitting next to the wifi router.
View 8 RepliesI have had the DIR-825 since the beginning of the year connected to AT&T DSL Internet 3GB. I just upgraded to their 6GB download speed and didn't see any change in speed and suddenly I couldn't view my SlingBox anymore outside the house. I connected one computer directly to the modem, ran the AT&T speed test and got >5GB download and @700 upload. Wired via 1GB network back to the router, ran the speed test and it dropped to @4GB download and 120 upload.
I called AT&T, they checked everything, and said there was nothing wrong. I then spent almost an hour on the phone with D-Link including getting passed to 3rd level support. I knew something was wrong when the guy told me that since it was only a 1GB router, I shouldn't expect to get faster than 1GB Internet download.
The router is still running the 1.00 firmware and these are the changes they made me try so it's still sitting at these settings:
- Change the WAN from Auto 10/100 to 100 only.
- Change MTU to 1482 in my PPPoE settings
- Change Firewall Settings to turn SPI off. He said the router is still providing a firewall though.
He wanted me to download the 1.01 firmware but I balked and he said it probably wouldn't do any good. It ended with him wanting me to call AT&T back and set the modem to bridge mode. I then need to call them back and set the PPPoE again. This 3rd level support guy was very rude and am hoping to avoid calling them again.
Before I go through the hassle of calling AT&T and trying this bridge mode, or has the Elite 6GB service from AT&T and are having it work correctly.
I am using linksys cisco wag120n adsl2 modem router.When I start the router the internet speed seems great but after some time the speed drops miserably. When I again restart the router the speed seems great for few mins but again drops after sometime.It happens in both LAN and wireless mode.The firmware version of the router is 1.00.16
I was going through the problems posted by some other user but observed that cisco people are not heraing to them.Seems made a mistake by associating with cisco product.This is the worst router I have ever used.The wireless also gets disconnected abruptly.Next time I'll avoid cisco.Cisco is all about stone age products and zero customer care.
We recently purchased a Linksys E3200 router, because our old router didn't take advantage of our internet speed. The router works fine, though the internet speeds again isn't as much as expected.
With a wired connection, we only get 80 Mbit/s of our full 120 Mbit/s, according to Speedtest.net. The Cisco Connect built-in speed test is even worse; only 40 Mbit/s. When we directly plug the computer into the modem, we get the full 120 Mbit/s, which indicates that the modem does have the connection speed. The router just doesn't give it to the computers attached.
I don't know about my wireless speed, as my wireless card in the laptop clearly is the bottleneck (it can only connect at 65 Mbit/s). Atheros AR9285 ftw.
We tried different cables, the one included with the router gives the same speed.
My ISP provides me internet by pppoe connection.When testing the connection with the router i get 30 mbps.When testing the conection without the router, cable conected to laptop i get 60 mpbs.

In the same room as the router it is fine. This has only just starting happening and it was OK anywhere in the house until a couple of days ago. To make it even more confusing my wife's notebook and my iphone work fine on the network in the bedroom.

I have check the speed on a tablet ( android ), pc and a mac to about 5 feet away from the router with no walls or anything between the two devices.I have checked all the settings but I don't see anything wrong, I have changed to N mode only to make sure I use top speed.All my devices are able to use N.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.
i recently upgraded my road runner cable from 1.5Mbps to 10Mbps.I checked my speed on speedtest.net and my speed was an astonishing 20Mbps.the problem occurred when i hooked up my linksys 4 port model nr041 router so my bro can also use his laptop. i checked on speedtest.net with the router hooked up, without us using anything, and the speed dropped to 6-10Mbps. I don't know why the speed dropped so much. We weren't messing around with anything and wasn't using the internet.About 3 hours later after my bro was done using the laptop I disconnected the router and plugged the modem straight into my pc and the speed shot back up to 20Mbps on speedtest.net.

One of them has been experiencing an odd problem for about six months now, and now that school is out I have time to mess with it. When I try to do certain things, the download speed periodically drops to zero. Specifically, I've noticed it when using Firefox and Steam, but also for IE and a few other browsers I installed for the sake of testing. I know I'm not *losing* connectivity, because everything that isn't specifically downloading a file works fine. Skype calls work fine, Utorrent streams at a steady rate, but for some reason Steam and Firefox have speed graphs that look like the heart rate monitor of someone with a very weak pulse. It starts off strong, a nice solid 1 MB per second, and then after 10-30 seconds it'll slowly decline to 0, and sit there for anywhere from 10 seconds to half an hour before picking up to full speed again. I've tried reinstalling drivers, I've tried buying a new network card, I've tried running antivirus scans, and I've tried uninstalling my antiviruses. The only thing that works for sure is putting it into safe mode. In safe mode, the downloads proceed smoothly. I tried making a list of everything that ran in safe mode, and then rebooted into normal mode and closed each nonessential process and service, but that didn't work either.

All of these computers are upstairs as well.I know for a fact it isn't the computer, since when my computer was upstairs it would work fine, but with everything exactly the same it'll be horrible downstairs.Only things I have thought of might be interference... but have zero idea how to find what would be causing the interference if any exist.

View 2 Replies View Related[code] My connection is ADSL with 2Mbps broadband. Using speedtest.net for testing the speed I got almost 2Mbps, that is ok, but this is connected directly to the modem. The problem is when I use the router, when I connect it the speed downs onward until it achieve a stable value of 512kbps, that is 4 times less than my contracted speed. I have tried with four different D-Link routers (DIR-280, DIR-600, DIR-600 N150, DIR-615), four ones give the same problem.D-Link tech support people don't have idea about what is happening just like tech support people from my Internet provider. I think the problem is not the modem because I get 2Mbps from it connected directly (without the router).I do the speed test in an interval of 3 minutes between each test, with just one device connected and only doing the speed test, all programs that use Internet access are closed.
Always is the same, after a time the speed drops down, from 2Mbps until 512kbps. The router has the QoS disabled, I have tried changing the MTU value, I have tried some values 1492 (this is the official from the Internet provider), also I have tried some lower numbers 1400, 1200 but the result is the same. The router has as security only wpa2 and it has a static public IP, the modem is configured as bridge. I have also tried unplugging the phones, connected to the splitter, keeping away the wireless phones, moving away the router from the modem for electronic interference, modifying the WAN speed from auto to 10 and 100, I have disabled the firewall, change the channels and power TX. I do the speed tests using the wireless and wired interfaces.
As soon as I add the interfaces of the router to security zones it significantly drops speed on WAN interface, below 1 Mbs. I noted this because I wasn't able to watch youtube. Moreover the bandwidth test from speedtest.net hangs and doesn't come to a result. Here below is the diagnostic example while doing that test. The question is what is going on? I have two iPhones and three computers in my network, that's it. My ISP bandwidth is 10 Mbs, so is this the router hardware limitations, or kind of malfunction or some misconfiguration down here? What could be done here ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a issue, my DIR-615 V.E3 has been working good. I have multiple computers connected and all get between 280 and 300Mbps. But then after a few hours the speeds drop to 130Mbps on all computers. After I reset the router the speed returns to 300Mbps. I have it set up to run on N speed only so g devices are not connecting.

When I direct connect my PC to my cable modem, I can get very near the 7mb/sec rate advertised by my ISP. When I connect the modem to this router, then connect to the pc to the router, the speed drops to between 2-3mb/sec. All tests performed several time using dslreport.com speed test website. The result is very repeatable, so I figure it has to be some delay introduced by the router. I can't see to find any place in the router configuration to do performance tuning. I'm not using any firewall rules except for the default rules. Why I'm seeing a greater than 50% decrease in internet throughput using this router?

Problem is, the WIFI doesn't work well at all, I'm 2 meters from my box right now, And I'm not experiencing any problems, but as soon as I get upstairs in my bedroom, my signal speed drops significantly, I can't even load a you tube video, I was downloading a game from steam yesterday, and the dl speed dropped to 6mb/s!! That's awful, If this problem can't be fixed, I'll be returning mine, and won't buy any other Dell product, I don't see how a laptop that pricey can have that kind of problems. ( because I heard I wasn't the only one, a lot of people have the same problem).
I am having an issue with my network connection. I have tested the connection itself and it's not a problem on my ISP's end or the connection itself, but seems to be caused by hardware/software errors originating from the computer. It almost appears as if the connection is being capped or the like, because the signal is very strong when I connect to the internet at first, then after a few moments drops (consistently every time I try reconnecting) to an unacceptably low signal level.

If the power cord plug directly into netcard, all at great, the tracker up to 80 MB per second, shakes on speedtest.net, shows 780 240 + Mbps. When i connect my inet through the router, the speed drops to 12 MB(100 Mbit) and speedtest the same, but in the the web interface in the statistics shows that everything is connected to a gigabit.
Plus, when I ping my ISP's website (ip -t ) and assume [URL] click on the test, the router with 1ms pings are beginning to rise to 30 ms, and when it is directly in netcard, it stable 1ms.... When through the router, torrent shake it just do up to 100ms jumps. I have all the settings , and set up his hands, and a manager, all for nothing. It started five days ago, before that everything was ok. Can a router burn? Rather it gigabit controller?
I have a Linksys E1000 running on the latest firmware available from the Cisco website. When my main PC (Windows 7 64Bit SP1) which is connected with a ethernet cable is running the wireless speed is great for all my connected devices. (Android/Apple phones, tablets, family PC, etc). But when I shut down my main PC the wireless speed drops to the point where it can take 3-5 mins for google.com to load up. The wireless connection is still showing as strong, just the speed isn't there anymore. If I were to turn my PC back on, everything will load up almost instantly and be back to normal. I've tried reinstalling the router, resetting it all back to default settings and re configuring it but I've had no luck in solving this.

When i do a broadband speed test, the speed drops down significantly to 8MBPS while if i connect it to the cable modem directly (wired) i.e., without router, i'm getting 15 MBPS download speed. I did a couple of times this speed check and the results are same. I tried changing the advanced settings in the router (which was specified in one of the post in this forum) but no luck. Is it that i need to buy e4200 to match the wired speed of 15 MBPS or what other things I can do to get the same speed of my cable modem (provided by my ISP)?

As soon as QoS is turned on the upload speed drops down to usually 300k and it never exceeds 1M.At the same time any VPN connection gets dropped often.I also configured one E4200v1 as router and the second E4200v1 as Access Point (HDCP off) hardwired to the first one.Any VPN connection gets dropped when changing location. I.e. if VPN was established with the router, the connection gets dropped when in the location where AP is -- and the other way around too. There is no coverage gap between the two locations, to the contrary - they do overlap heavily.On Dec 21, 2011 the level 2 Linksys/Cisco people advised that they will forward the two issues to engineering and that resolution will be within 24-48 hours.

Wired works normally, and wireless is otherwise stable, except when under heavy load. E.g. if I initiate a large TimeMachine backup over wifi to my NAS, it will fail and the wifi will drop requiring a power cycle.I have tried a similar transfer over ethernet (~1.7Tb) and although the transfer speed wasn't great (~10MBs, likely due to NAS drive bottleneck), it completed without a problem.
If I try copying ~150Gb over wifi, however, it barely lasts 30 minutes without dropping out.Once the wifi drops, it still connects, but nothing works (I am unable to even connect to the web interface using the local IP). Other devices connected already via ethernet or 2.5Ghz still function normally, but the 5Ghz just fails, and if I try initiating a new connection to the 2.5Ghz it doesn't work until I power-cycle the router.As far as overheating goes, I'm not sure it is an environmental issue... I have the router standing upright in an open space so there is good airflow around it.
I have used our home network with an apple iOS baby monitor app for a year without issues. An iPod is the transmitter and broadcasts the signal on my home network. Any other iOS device can pick up the signal when on "receiver" mode. This app worked great for over a year, but recently the app drops out after 1-3 hours. The dropped device also cannot get to the internet via Safari or communicate via the app. The WRT160Nv2 router indicates that the devices are still connected and the iOS devices indicate they are still connected, but they cannot communicate.
To fix the issue, I simply toggle the unit to/from airplane mode. This disables/enables the wifi and the unit jumps right back on the network and all is well. This is a pain though when the baby monitor drops in the middle of the night and we have to walk to the baby's room.
I have tried to recreate the issue with other video steaming (iphone video to appleTV), but I have not found the issue with any other app. Maybe I just have not run the movie long enough (3 hours+) like I do with the baby monitor app at night. Are there any wifi router timing or other settings that could cause something like this?
