Linksys Wireless Router :: Ea4500 Slow Wifi Speed
Aug 3, 2012
So I went out and bought a brand new EA4500, because I thought my old router was bad due to horrific wifi Speeds on my Wireless devices like my laptop and Samsung Galaxy S3. Well now I have the same issue with this new router. My speed from comcast straight from the modem is 25mbps down and 5mbps up, on the routers through a wired connection I get the same thing. As soon as a switch over to Wireless my connection goes from 25mpbs/5mpbs to less then 2mbps down. I've reduced the MTU, and I've tried turning off QoS. Nothing seems to work

I just setup an EA4500 last night and found the downlaod speed became 1/10 of my previous E3200 before. I tried to use different channels & 20MHz only for wireless connection but no success. The wired connection through Ethernet port was in the same low speed. What else should I try?

Transfer speed for sending or receiving files from a USB external HDD connected to the router is slow? Speed ranging from 2MB - 4MB/s. The HDD is definitely capable of at least 80MB/s if plugged directly into the PC. Is it meant to be this slow or there's a fix somewhere which I'm not aware of? Thought it's suppose to be the top of the line products but seems so inferior if I were to compare with other high end routers in the market which performs better, faster and definitely much cheaper.

I own a ea4500 wireless router, I have tested the speed at speedtest.net and wirelessly I get around 9 mbps. My speed is 23 mbps when I hard wired the pc. I have check the speed on a tablet ( android ), pc and a mac to about 5 feet away from the router with no walls or anything between the two devices.I have checked all the settings but I don't see anything wrong, I have changed to N mode only to make sure I use top speed. All my devices are able to use N.

My newly installed E1200 only sends speeds of about 16 mbps wireless, but sends the ful 60 mpbs when wired. What is going on. Firmware is up to date. Changing the channels didn't do anything. Is there a way to figure out if the problem is with my laptops wireless card.

I have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s. I think those transfer rates are not acceptable. Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)
I also had great difficulty finding a channel. I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:
-WPA-Personal
-Channel 5
-802.11n only
I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed. Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks. I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.

Bought the new EA4500 a couple of days ago and have looked at my wireless connection and see it varies from 72Mbps to 144Mbps. It has jumped up to 270Mbps a few times, but rarely. Shouldn't it be 300Mbps most of the time? My laptop is 4 feet away from the router and the router is on top of a card board box being elevated away from interference. The prior router was a dlink 855 that went whacky after 3 years. I believe I was usually at 270 Mbps with that. What gives? Do I have a faulty router? With this new router, I expected the range to be a lot farther and faster too, but it is not in my family room. 2nd floor router, family room is 1st floor about 50 feet away and I get 1Mbps - 5Mbps. Everything is set to Auto on router and IP6 is disabled on laptop.

I just upgraded my E4200v1 router to a new EA4500. The install process went fine and I'm running firmware 2.0.37.When I was running the E4200v1, I had wireless speeds of 24-30mbs. Since upgrading to the EA4500, I only have 5-8mbs wireless speed.

I upgraded from a E2000 to a EA4500 today and I am experiencing slow wired WAN speeds. On my E2000 I get approximately 60Mbps down and approximately 2Mbps up, and when switching over to the EA4500, I can only manage about 20Mbps down and about 2Mbps up. I can switch back and forth between routers and replicate the results every time

I bought a new EA4500 and it was working great and now about 8 hours later it is won't even download some websites and is working very slowly. Pandora suddenly no longer works on it and neither does ESPN, it just times out. Very, very slow. I am very disappointed. I am using it with my Verizona westell DSL modem ... Why this is happening or if maybe this router is defective.

I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

I am only getting 10-14 mbps when I should be getting 30-35 (using the gigabit ports). I thought it might be my provider but today I connected my old netgear router and the speed was 32-34 mbps. Is there some setting that I should be looking at?

I have a problem with my new router. I connected't my iMac (27" 2010) and NAS Synology 1511. My problem is the slow connection between mac and router - only 100Mbit (ethernet port on mac is 1Gbit), strange thing... my NAS have 1Gbit with no problem, and the mac is not. I trying manual configure - forcing speed to 1Gbit, but then is no connection at all. I'm also trying changing wires, but no change. Im buying special ethernet cable cat 6 - also no change. Changing ports on router - result the same.

I have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.
The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.

The issue is that one Dell laptop is experiencing slow or no internet connectivity at all using wireless. Sometimes 1 to 2 minutes to load a page, other times the dreaded 'not able to display webpage' message. It's fine using Ethernet. I have another laptop (same exact brand/model) and it has no problems. I also have a Macbook Pro and other Apple IOS devices (iPod/iPads) that are fine. Several Ethernet connected devices are fine as well. The laptop in question had no issues with my previoius Linksys devices, which are a BEFSR41/WAP55AG as well as a WRT-54GS v2. This one laptop was fine the first day or two on the EA4500 but something happened which is causing this issue. I had to add the WAP55AG back onto my network so my son is happy again, but my plan was to decommission the other devices. I've set up PPPoE on my EA4500 router with a Vigor 120 modem in bridged mode and it says an internet connection is established, but the connection is extremely slow on all my devices. When I run the speed test within the EA4500 firmware it appears fine, but I cannot load any web pages on my laptop or other decives because the connection is so slow. The connection is slow with both wired and wireless connections. I've tried changing the MTU settings with no success. I've also tried using a different router and connecting the modem directly to my laptop and using PPPoE within the laptop and these both work fine, so I think it's clear there is a problem with the EA4500 router itself.
I'm just using the Vigor 120 to authenticate and connect to the internet itself, with the router in DHCP automatic configuration mode. I think this is causing a double NAT.

I recently switched from Linksys WRT54G router to MediaLink router. My wired connection speed stayed the same but my wireless speed degraded significantly - roughly from 5-8mbps to 200-300kbps.I measured my wireless speed both on win7 laptop and iPad. My Roku box is also struggling. All devices were in the proximity of the router.I tried changing encryption (WEP/WPA2/no encryption), mode (from b/g/n to b/g to just g), and different channels. Nothing worked, the speed is still very slow.

I have FiOS and their supplied wireless router Actiontec #MI424WR. I have home theater equipment that uses the newer N signal so I purchased a Linksys E3000 Wireless-N Router. I have one of the LAN outputs on the Actiontec feeding the Linksys input and Wi-Fi turned off on the Actiontec. This is working good for my wireless home theater equipment but I am having problems with my wired speed. It has gone from averaging anywhere from 20 to 30 mbps on numerous test sites when plugged into the Actiontec to averaging around 10 mbps when plugged into the Linksys.
1) Is my wireless N speed going to top out at 10mbps or less since that is all the router is showing on wired? Shouldnt N be broadcasting a faster speed if given the ability?
2) I have my computer currently plugged directly into the Linksys verses the Actiontec. This makes it easier to program the Linksys router. Since I am no longer using the wireless part of the Actiontec there really is no need to be plugged into it. Is there anything I can do get the speed higher on the Linksys, a setting I can change? Will I have to plug the computer back into the Actiontec to get the higher speed and then move it every time I may need to make a change to the Linksys?

I bought the new E2500 Router about 5 months ago and it was great until one day the wilreless part would not give me any speed at all. I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?

I have a problem with new E4200 WAN speed. I have 1Gb connection from my ISP, and my old Netgear router gives me about 350 Mbps WAN speed, but with new E4200 I only got 110 Mbps max download speed.Cisco live support tried suggested to change MTU from Auto to 1400 (and try different wlan channels, even that I don't use wlan). This MTU size change makes no difference with WAN speed. I have latest firmaware installed, router reseted several times, tried different cables etc. Also with same cable sets my old Netgear still gives about 3 times better WAN speed.WAN port (and all LAN ports) seems to negotiated at 1000 Mbps at both ONT (optical network terminal) and Linksys settings page, but unfortanately there is no way to change the setting from auto to manual at E4200 settings (and it is not possible to change any settings of ONT by user). I was thinking that if somehow it won't auto negotiate properly (even if the setting page says its ok) but maybe it actually negotiated 100 Mbps port to WAN.

I just purchased an e1200 wireless router. Wireless speeds seem to be very slow. I'm trying to transfer 1 file to my media server, and am only getting 221kb/s. Also, internet connection seems to be slow as well (though if I plug directly into the router or the modem, I get speeds of 25Mbps, however when connecting wirelessly via the router I get speeds closer to 2Mbps (according to speedtest.com).I've played around with the settings as per other posts, and seemed to get the best speeds with the following config (however it is still very poor):
- security mode: WPA2 Personal
- network mode: B/G (have also tried N, which gave worse speeds)
- channels 1,3,6,9, and 11

I bought a EA 3500 router and my speed is going only half the speed it was without the router.I have charter 100 meg internet, and a alienware Pc with a gigabit card.I wa going 100 megs and now I am at 38-50.I have tried hard reset with the bottom button, I have turned off all firewalls, I have changed my MTU to 1400 and 1500, I have went to speedguide.net and ran a optimizer., I have tried just about everything I can think of. firmware is up to date.
Is there anything I am missing, or am I not going to get these speeds with this router, I was told when I bought it, it was what I needed, Was I duped?, or is there just some setting i need to fix i am not aware of?

The smile was big when I bought my new Linksys E2000 Wireless Router.
Unfortunately the smiled stiffened when I realised that the network speed did not meet the expected up to 300 Mbps for Wireless and x10 for a Giganet connection. What to do to improve the LAN speed to an acceptable level ?
Network:
* Linksys E2000 ; WPA2 (Personal)
* x2 Windows7 Laptop ; x1 Linux Laptop ; x1 Qnap TS-409 Pro
* Download speed WiFi (between laptops as well as from NAS) <2MB/Sec
* Download Speed Cable (between laptops as well as from NAS) <8MB/Sec
* Download speed with direct connection to NAS (without switch) ~13 MB/sec

If I send video file(overall bit rate is 17.5Mbps) to client with 2.4Ghz band, it always freezes and go repeatedly around 1 second interval. the distance around 10m away without any wall, open space actually.
But same condition with above, cheaper wireless router no problem at all. It happens only with EA4500. And there are no any parameters setting menu actually.
