Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Is Working Intermittently And Sometimes Slow

Nov 2, 2012

I bought a new EA4500 and it was working great and now about 8 hours later it is won't even download some websites and is working very slowly. Pandora suddenly no longer works on it and neither does ESPN, it just times out. Very, very slow. I am very disappointed. I am using it with my Verizona westell DSL modem ... Why this is happening or if maybe this router is defective.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Ea4500 Slow Wifi Speed

Aug 3, 2012

So I went out and bought a brand new EA4500, because I thought my old router was bad due to horrific wifi Speeds on my Wireless devices like my laptop and Samsung Galaxy S3. Well now I have the same issue with this new router. My speed from comcast straight from the modem is 25mbps down and 5mbps up, on the routers through a wired connection I get the same thing. As soon as a switch over to Wireless my connection goes from 25mpbs/5mpbs to less then 2mbps down. I've reduced the MTU, and I've tried turning off QoS. Nothing seems to work

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Slow Or No Internet Connectivity On Dell Laptop?

Aug 4, 2012

The issue is that one Dell laptop is experiencing slow or no internet connectivity at all  using wireless.  Sometimes 1 to 2 minutes to load a page, other times the dreaded 'not able to display webpage' message.  It's fine using Ethernet.  I have another laptop (same exact brand/model) and it has no problems. I also have a Macbook Pro and other Apple IOS devices (iPod/iPads) that are fine.  Several Ethernet connected devices are fine as well.  The laptop in question had no issues with my previoius Linksys devices, which are a BEFSR41/WAP55AG as well as a WRT-54GS v2.  This one laptop was fine the first day or two on the EA4500 but something happened which is causing this issue.  I had to add the WAP55AG back onto my network so my son is happy again, but my plan was to decommission the other devices. EA4500 Firmware v.2.0.37Dell Inspiron 15 Notebook w/Intel Centrino Wireless N1030, 1x2 bgn (2.4 GHz) + Bluetooth

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Transfer Speed From USB External HDD Connected To EA4500?

Jul 3, 2012

Transfer speed for sending or receiving files from a USB external HDD connected to the router is slow? Speed ranging from 2MB - 4MB/s. The HDD is definitely capable of at least 80MB/s if plugged directly into the PC. Is it meant to be this slow or there's a fix somewhere which I'm not aware of? Thought it's suppose to be the top of the line products but seems so inferior if I were to compare with other high end routers in the market which performs better, faster and definitely much cheaper.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Vigor 120 Bridged With EA4500 Extremely Slow Connection

Feb 1, 2013

I've set up PPPoE on my EA4500 router with a Vigor 120 modem in bridged mode and it says an internet connection is established, but the connection is extremely slow on all my devices. When I run the speed test within the EA4500 firmware it appears fine, but I cannot load any web pages on my laptop or other decives because the connection is so slow. The connection is slow with both wired and wireless connections. I've tried changing the MTU settings with no success. I've also tried using a different router and connecting the modem directly to my laptop and using PPPoE within the laptop and these both work fine, so I think it's clear there is a problem with the EA4500 router itself.

I'm just using the Vigor 120 to authenticate and connect to the internet itself, with the router in DHCP automatic configuration mode. I think this is causing a double NAT.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 On Sniper Hill ISP Is Not Working?

Dec 1, 2012

The ISP provided on the base is called Sniper Hill. The basic setup is there are CAT5e drops in every room. You plug in, and it is all web based to pay for and sign in to the service. Other people have successfully connected there routers made by other manufacturers, why won't the EA4500 connect? I've tried a lot of different ideas from reading different stuff round the net including the forums here.  The Problem starts when after I sign in. When I open explorer I get the normal redirect to the sign in page. Once I sign in it's like the connection dies. I've seen a lot of suggestions that the server is picking up on a router on their network and blocks everything. I've tried mac addy clone, fixed IP, DMZ, NAT off, using the different connection types versus plain old Dynamic IP. The only thing I can tell you about the other routers people are using is they are a European version, you can tell by the plug that comes on them.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Is Not Working - Connection Keep Losing To Mac AirBook

Jun 14, 2012

I recently upgraded my Wild blue internet service to the "Exede" system. When I kept losing the connection to my Mac Air book, the Wild blue service tech suggested that my wireless router (Linksys Wireless G 2.4 GHz router) was not robust enough to handle the increased "speed". They recommended I purchase a new router so I purchased the Linksys EA4500.

Now, after three weeks, the Linksys EA4500 router has stopped working. I am able to hook one of our Mac Books directly to the satellite modem to access the internet through an Ethernet connection. Finally, I finally reconnected my old Linksys Wireless G router to the modem to check to see if it would work and it does.

So, I'm wondering about the failure rate of the new Linksys EA4500 routers? Is there anything else I might try to get my new router to work??? I have unplugged it for an hour and then re connected it. I have pushed the reset button..My wireless indicator on the Mac Book Air shows full signal strength, but I can't connect to the internet with my new (less than 3 weeks old) router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Drops Internet Intermittently

Sep 14, 2011

My Linksys Router WRT54G has recently (yesterday) started dropping the internet after being online for a few hours. The current setup has been in place for several years.  I started with the Broadband provider and they verified that the signal and cable modem is working properly.  My own tests back this up. At first I simply reset the router.  Unplugged it for 30 seconds and plugged it back in.  Internet is back.  Then I tried resetting the cable modem and the router.  This works as well but the problem presists. Resetting the router alone has the same affect. So, something with the router is causing it to drop the internet.  The network does not drop however.  I can still use my network drive and the computers indicate a network with no internet connection.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Losing Connection Intermittently

May 12, 2013

I've been having issues with my e2500 router. I've found my connection dropping occasionally both with a wired connection and wirelessly on other computer. My desktop is connected directly to the router via ethernet and I've been keeping an eye on my network preference pane. Every 10 minutes or so the connection will be lost and computer says the cable is unplugged. It then resolves after 2 minutes.

I'm running OSX 10.8, firmware 1.0.07. Done a factory reset, power cycles etc. Configured with Cisco connect and manually multiple times. I've swapped out ethernet cables just to be sure it wasn't a cable issue.

Internet is fine when I've got the computer hooked up directly to the modem. No connection issues.

Internet Connection Disconnects Intermittently / Home Network Extremely Slow?

I have been having problems with my Internet the past couple weeks. Another problem that happens while browsing, it will take about a minute for a page to load. The computer I am using is wired right into the router.

The rest of the family's computers the apple tv and the roku are wireless. I have been hearing complaints from them and have witnessed the laggyness. While streaming videos on the roku or apple tv, the video will stop and say video is not available or no connection. This is what I get from ipconfig/all

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Won't Obtain IP From ISP

May 12, 2012

My new EA4500 (fw ver 2.0.36) won't obtain an IP from a Brighthouse TM502G cable modem.  The EA4500 replaced a functioning WRT54G which would obtain an IP from the ISP.  I've tried upgrading firmware and have used both straight-through and crossover cables between the EA4500 & TM502G to no avail.  The EA4500 would issue IPs to it's clients, but not obtain one from it's TM502G.  At the moment, all 3 are daisy-chained together with the old WRT54G in the middle in order to make the EA4500 work.  Both WiFi and LAN ports function in this configuration.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Won't Allow Wake On WAN

May 6, 2012

I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.

From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.

So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good. With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.

However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.
