View 1 RepliesI own a ea4500 wireless router, I have tested the speed at speedtest.net and wirelessly I get around 9 mbps. My speed is 23 mbps when I hard wired the pc. I have check the speed on a tablet ( android ), pc and a mac to about 5 feet away from the router with no walls or anything between the two devices.I have checked all the settings but I don't see anything wrong, I have changed to N mode only to make sure I use top speed. All my devices are able to use N.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a CISCO modem from SHAW set as bridge. I recently bought a CISCO EA4500 which got automatically upgrade to the current Firmware 2.0.37 after connecting it to my ISP. After a few days I noticed my internet speed was slow. When I checked the router I saw it flipped from 1Gb to 100Mb. Called Shaw they could not figure this one out, while waiting I decided to turn everything off / on and internet port came back to 1Gb. 2 days later same thing again, I just turned off both the modem and EA500 router. Â A couple of days later again same problem but this time I just turned EA4500 off/on and internet port came back on with 1Gb.Otherwise I will have to turn this one back in to the store for an exchange.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a EA4500 to replace my old WRT54G earlier this year. At first the router worked fine. After the automatic firmware upgrade to Cisco Connect Cloud, I was never able to get the Connect Cloud stuff to work, constant 500 Internal Server errors when trying to access the router with the Internet cable attached. Â So I downgraded back to the old firmware and all was well again. Then I started having problems a few months ago, when I would wake up in the morning, the router would be cycling the Internet port on and off. I could usually reboot everything and it would work the rest of the day. I lived with it like this a while, and support couldn't seem to find anything wrong. Eventually it started getting worse, until the point I could hardly ever get it to stay connected. I got Cisco to RA the old router and I figured problem solved. Now while the EA4500 was gone, I used my WRT54G again, and everything worked fine for nearly two weeks while I was waiting on the replacement EA4500.
So today the new EA4500 showed up, I connected and configured it, and it worked for a short time. Then suddenly I lost Internet, looked up at the modem and the LAN light was going on and off every few seconds. So I'm back in the same boat as before.I've tried changing cables, same setup works fine with the WRT54G. Modem works fine with WRT54G and connected directly to the computer, zero problems. I tried lowering the MTU, turning on MAC address cloning, and various other things. My modem is a HughesNet HN9000.
I have recently purchased an EA4500 router. I assigned my sons XBOX a static IP via DHCP reservation (outside of the standard DHCP range). I set up single port forwarding on all the standard xbox required ports. Once I click the "enabled" box, I am unable to access the internet from any of the computers connected to the router. If I uncheck the enable box, I am instantly able to access the internet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy EA4500 is not working. The power indicator light is on but the green and yellow lights on the Internet port are not flashing and the modem the EA4500 is connected to show no activity on that port. Also, the EA4500 is not broadcasting so I can't even connect to it to use Cisco Connect to troubleshoot. I tried resetting it but it did nothing. This has happened before but is usally fixed with a reset.

I tried the port forwarding method but with this router when I enable the ports I lost internet access in my wired devices but my wireless devices still have internet access. I even lost internet access on my computer. I never had manu problems with a router trying to get my NAT type open on my 2 xbox.
View 6 Replies View RelatedBought the new EA4500 a couple of days ago and have looked at my wireless connection and see it varies from 72Mbps to 144Mbps. It has jumped up to 270Mbps a few times, but rarely. Shouldn't it be 300Mbps most of the time? My laptop is 4 feet away from the router and the router is on top of a card board box being elevated away from interference. The prior router was a dlink 855 that went whacky after 3 years. I believe I was usually at 270 Mbps with that. What gives? Do I have a faulty router?  With this new router, I expected the range to be a lot farther and faster too, but it is not in my family room. 2nd floor router, family room is 1st floor about 50 feet away and I get 1Mbps - 5Mbps.   Everything is set to Auto on router and IP6 is disabled on laptop.

Well now I have the same issue with this new router. My speed from comcast straight from the modem is 25mbps down and 5mbps up, on the routers through a wired connection I get the same thing. As soon as a switch over to Wireless my connection goes from 25mpbs/5mpbs to less then 2mbps down. I've reduced the MTU, and I've tried turning off QoS. Nothing seems to work

Connection speed on the Laptop Studio used to be 60 Mbit wireless . Haven’t checked speed for many week but yesterday foundout that the speed dropped to 12 MB. Wired the laptop to the router, connection wend up to 98 Mbit.
Wireless again the speed dropped to 12 MBit.  Checked the wireless connection with another laptop and it went up again to 70 Mbit. What could be wrong on the Studio 1555?
Cleaned the computer, no malware, Mode AP, Channel 11, WPA2
The card Broadcom driver 10-01-2008, version 5.30.21.0
The card works but the 12 Mbit should be at least 60 Mbit.
I have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.
The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.
Transfer speed for sending or receiving files from a USB external HDD connected to the router is slow? Speed ranging from 2MB - 4MB/s. The HDD is definitely capable of at least 80MB/s if plugged directly into the PC. Is it meant to be this slow or there's a fix somewhere which I'm not aware of? Thought it's suppose to be the top of the line products but seems so inferior if I were to compare with other high end routers in the market which performs better, faster and definitely much cheaper.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got an EA4500 and I really like it. I set it up with my printer, tested a few things and everything is working perfectly fine. The problem I'm having now is that when I plug a flashdrive to the USB I don't know how to access it. For some reason when I go to the settings under USB Storage it says "There is no drive in the USB Port". It tells me to click refresh but that doesn't seem to work.
Â
I'm running firmware version 2.1.39.145204
I have a BEFSX41 connected to a Motorola SB6120. Â I changed my plan for a hgih speed, but did not see it.Had a tech out and we found when direct connected to my computer, I get 50 Mbps. Â When connected through the router, about 9 Mbps. Â I swapped cables, but still the same.
Â
Is there any way to determine the connection speed on the Internet port? Â It seems that it only running at 10, when both the router and modem support 100.
Background: currently have a WRT320N, thinking of upgrading to an EA4500 assuming ONE feature has been improved: Port Forwarding.
Â
Scenario:Â Currently I have a WRT320N router, and while it "does everything we need" it has one limitation that is now getting in the way: limitation on number of forwardable ports. Â In the port forwarding panel, it has 15 total rows: the first five rows can be enabled for specificaly named services (SMTP, FTP, etc). Â The last 10 rows are fully customizable in that we can set the name, ports and protocol.Â
Â
The problem is that of the 13 total ports I currently need to forward, only ONE of them is listed in that fixed list. Â So, sadly, I can only use one of those first five rows. Â I've now filled the remaining ten custom rows, and still have need for two additional ports (for now, may need more down the road).
Â
Trying to get creative, I figured maybe I could just spill over to the Port Range Forwarding page and add a row or two there. Â The only problem: it's buggy. Â I've found that if the Single Port Forwarding list is filled, then the Port Forwarding Range entries don't work properly. Â For example, if I wanted ports 12345 and 12346 forwarded to 192.168.1.5, they work fine with two single port forwarding entries. Â However, if I delete those, add two other port lines I need forwarded (the single list being full again), and add a port forwarding range 12345..12346, they don't work properly, ports just are closed. Only the singles work, the ranges don't.
Â
Question:Â Has the EA4500 resolved this issue and allow for either more lines (i.e. 20 customizable entries instead of 10), or, better, does it just have an [Add Entry] button to allow for additional rows to be created? Â In today's day and age, where one single device (such as an Xbox) can take four rows, a 10-row limit is pretty sparse. Â Comparing it to some competitors, for example the D-Link DIR-825 (aging, but still great) allows you to add as many as you want.
Â
I realize "expensive" firewalls like SonicWall's have virtually unlimited customization, but I don't need many of the additional features and don't want to spend $350 on a "high-end" firewall to solve the problem of needing two more ports open.
Installed my new EA4500 and trying to access my PC from internet (remote desktop) in order to do so I need to forward the TCP port 3389. In the old web admin page this option was easy to find and change. with the new cloud connect I can't find it. how do Ienable port forwarding on the EA4500?Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a virtual machine running in my desktop which connected on the gigabit lan port on EA4500 with firmware 2.0.37.What I want to be able to do forward a port that came from an external ipv4 address to the ipv6 address and a different port to my virtual machine (to remote desktop port 3389).The reason I want to convert the traffic to ipv6 is because virtual machine is running vpn and is not reacheable through ipv4 (unless bunch of routes are setup and things get complicated etc). I verified my phsical server and virtual server get both ipv6 ip addresses through ipv6 tunnel from comcast. Without tunneling I could not get ipv6 setup using automatic mode with comcast, it simply did not work for some reason.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an EA4500 router. It's the latest in a long line of Linksys routers I've owned and I'm pretty familiar with setting one up and making changes. But the EA4500 seems a bit more picky than previous routers. Last night I tried to enable port forwarding for ports 53, 80, and 88 for my xbox. I already had port 3074 forwarded. When I did that and applied the change, I lost all Internet connectivity. I tried cycling the power on the router with no luck. I finally got connected again by going to 192.168.1.1 and disabled those ports. The status page then said I had Internet connectivity but I really didn't at least right away. It took a couple minutes before I was actually able to to connect to the Internet again. What else should I check when it says I don't have internet connectivity?
