Netgear CG814WG Router Having Higher-than-expected Ping?
Aug 22, 2011
Usually, when I connect to nearby game servers I would have 10 - 60 ping. However, recently my NETGEAR CG814WG stops working randomly (The lights are all on, I can connect to it, but there's no internet connection) and I have to reboot it. (I had this router for a bit longer than a year, by the way)Currently I get around 80 - 300 ping connecting to servers in sydney. Ping directly from my router:
Ping statistics:
Pings sent: 25 (4 per second); Replies received: 25 (4 per second)
Bytes sent: 1600 (266 per second); Bytes received: 1600 (266 per second)
25 replies passed verification (0 failed)
Min time: 10 ms; Max time: 400 ms; Avg time: 132 ms; Total time: 6090 ms
When I reboot the router it has low ping (~30) for a minute or two but then the ping increases.
"In the past I have noticed if I have one of my rigs running NAT and DHCP that my ping response times are lower compared to my router DGL-4300, when playing games. Is this due to the PC hardware being superior or is it a software/firmware thing?
Or is there a router out there that will perform better ping response time wise/ lag than my DGL-4300?"
Is this due to hardware or is it software/firmware? My NAT and DHCP box was a windows server 2003 configured with just those roles and my pings were in the 20-30 and I could host/join games no problem and no lag, but when I play through the Dlink DGL-4300 my pings would be 70-90 and some games I had lag issues and host/ join issues, sometimes it would work sometimes not.
i've got a Dell laptop and a few months ago i started experiencing higher ping on some games and some spikes on the internet, at first i blamed my isp but this has continues since then and my brother has reported no spikes or ping increases in the last weeks. I experience a 120 ping on speedtest.net (on average) to servers that i used to get up to 20 ping on and i experience 200 ping on league of legends servers that i used to get 100~ ping on.My laptop is running on windows 7, using panda antivirus and spybot search and destroy (i uninstalled mcafee).
We have Four 2960S Switches in Stack. We have created Multiple VLANs. While Pinging from Member PC to Member VLAN IP on Switch, we are getting Higher TTL response & Some ping breaks for One Particular VLAN. While pinging from Member PC to Member PC, we are getting Normal Ping Response.
My wife just bought a new Dell Intel Centrino. I can't seem to get it to connect properly to the wireless router/modem. It is a Netgear cg814wg v2. The wireless status shows that the computer is connected to the internet. But yet the only thing I can seem to do is searches on Google. Any other site that I try to visit does not open. If I plug the laptop into the modem directly with a Ethernet cable it works flawlessly. So it seems that the laptop can communicate with other computers on the network, but I just don't have any internet. Or very limited internet. And I've tried this in both IE and Google Chrome.
I'm not a computer/wireless network genius, but I've spent hours trying to troubleshoot this issue with no success. I've reset the modem. Unplugged the modem. Typed config/all and all the other ones I found suggested online in the command prompt. Checked the settings on the modem itself and on the laptop. I Still can't seem to get it to work. I have 3 other computers in my house that all work just fine wireless. They are all older computers with XP on them. I also found out that the wireless adapter in the laptop is a N 1030 adapter. But I don't know if that is compatible with my modem or not.
Well I became convinced that the problem was with the Netgear itself and I needed a newer model. I contacted Comcast whom supplies the modem for me and told them my situation. She basically told me that I needed to contact Dell Technical Support to see if the laptop was set up or equipped with what it needed to be used with my Netgear setup. Well, she said something that sounded a lot better than that.
I recently got a Netgear WNDR3400 Dual Band Wireless Router. When I first installing it everything seemed to run great, download was about 1.5 Mbps and a good ping, 20-70 for gaming. This lasted about a day. While the download does vary due to the service provider, my ping however has suddenly increased to a constant 200-400. This is happening on my Laptop, X-Box 360, and PS3.I have tested both wired and wireless connections from the router and used both the 2.64Ghz and 5Ghz frequency and I still have the same issue. I have then done a wired connection straight into the modem and my ping returns to the 20-70. My Router is less than 3 ft from all systems. I live in a barracks so there are multiple wireless signals floating about. However no one else seems to have any issues with there ping when using a wireless router and there only 1 room above me. I have changed channels on both frequency's, enabled and disabled NAT Filtering, decreased and increased the MTU size within the WAN settings, reset the router to factory defaults, ensured I have the proper firmware, and proper software for my laptop.
about two days ago my main PC lost the ability to connect to the internet. I'm useing a trendnet tew-687ga adapter and a netgear n600 router. I can't ping the default gatway 192.168.1.1
What signal strength should I expect when in the same room as the e4200 ?I'm checking signal strength with iStumbler and with option-right click on airport menu icon on my Mac.I'm getting a signal strength of about -55 while in the room with the router. What signal strength should I expect while in the same room, no physical obstructions, etc. ?
My internetprovider increased speed from 25 Mbps to 40 Mbps. Providermodem direct to pc via LAN gives indeed speed 40 Mbps. However through router lanport or wireless no higher speed. How comes?
I recently bought a Netgear WNR1000 to replace a POS belkin router that was acting up.
Pinging Google over wireless from 20 feet gives a response of around 500ms. A wired connection through the router gives the same result. A direct connection however gives a response of 50ms. I ruled out any file transfers or piggybackers on the network. ISP is Time Warner.
Here is my ipconfig Windows IP Configuration Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
I'm paying for 18 Mbps download speed, and my laptops and one desktop get this speed, but the computer from which I write only gets 5 Mbps. He didn't know why.I'm pasting my HJT and DDS logs, and attaching Attach.txt. Ark.txt will be copied to this also.
For some reason I cannot ping or FTP on a specific computer on my home network. All other computers work fine and the specific computer works fine on other networks. But the combination of this computer and my home network it doesn't like.
I have disabled both windows firewall and my virus software but nothing seems to work. It seems to be a timeout issue as FTP and ping sometimes does work but FTP is increadibly slow when it works and the ping time is very high 670ms and above. I am running windows 7 and my router is a netgear n150
Ive been having some issues with my router. My main comp is directly connected to the router and while I play games my ping slowly rises. I'm pretty sure it's the router because whe n I connect directly to the cable modem my ping stays fine.
I've tried using dd-wrt and tomatos firmware with same results. what I can do to try to fix or should I just go buy a new router? If so whats recommended that's not to expensive.
access-list <#> permit/deny <protocol> <sourceAddress> <sourceMask> <destinationAdd> <destinationMask>Say I applied an ACL inbound on Fa0/0, would the source address be the outside the LAN?So if took the same ACL and applied it as outbound, would the source need to be change to an IP inside the LAN?I am a bit confused by the data flow I'm seeing in packet tracer simulation mode to. I set up an ACL for testing purposes "access-list 199 permit ip 193.20.30.0 0.0.0.63 any" set as inbound, the idea being it permits any traffic from the .0 subnet. When I watch the packet in the simulation, it makes it to the destination address then is dropped by the router on it's way back out to the sender.
I am doing some really rough budget numbers. What can I expect for a life cycle on some Cisco gear like a 2801 router and a 48 port PoE switch? Is 4 years pushing it too much? We usually don't upgrade unless something breaks.
I have an extended acl on my VLAN interface in bound and it is working like I need it to, securing one side of my network from the other allowing only what I want from my desktops to my servers. The acls look something like this:
Traffic is initiated from vlan100 not from vlan70 then back through so an established rule does not work. Also there are many more ports open in my inbound acl but this is simplified for ease of reading.I want to make sure if I place both an inbound and outbound rule on my vlan and that it is in the right place, both on the same vlan.
I've got very basic problem but I cannot find the solution... I am sitting on the Cisco 4948E switch. And, I wanted to allow to guys who have not enable password to issue command sh running-config.I used the the following command to do that:SW4948E(config)#privilege exec level 1 show running-config.
I have 10 new AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9 connected to a WS-C3750X-48PF-L switch. 8 of the APs power on and connect perfectly, but two are problematic. Both devices are granted power, but they never go past the stage of getting power from the switch. A look at POE shows: [code]
Where the AP that is not working is connected to Gi1/0/4. The interface shows down/down. I've tried shutting the interface, removing power, cdp etc.
Are there any other tricks you can think of to get it working or would you say that it's 2 faulty APs? I am not based at site unfortunately so I cannot console to the APs and check them out.
I recently built a new computer, this computer is running Windows 7 (64 bit), playing games such as World of Warcraft I get from 250-350 ms Latency, on my old Windows XP built hooked to the same router gets about 80ms stable.
I have a CSS 11503 with a basic content rule for TCP 10000 going to a few backend servers. I was looking into the default timeout values for flows and when testing using telnet the flow didn't terminate as expected?
For example, i have no 'timeout multiplier' specified in the config and when i look at the output of 'show flow-timeout default' it tells me the default 16 seconds timeout is in effect for *. With that in mind, i telnet to the content rule vip on TCP 10000 and on the backend server using wireshark i can see the TCP threeway handshake. With no data passing i'd expect the CSS to terminate this flow after 16 seconds.. yet it takes exactly 128 seconds before wireshark shows the RST and the flow is terminated. 128 being 8 times the default 16 second flow timeout.
If i try to force the connection to close early by specifiying 'flow-timeout-multiplier 2' in the content rule, or even a multiplier of 40, it still waits 128 seconds to close the telnet connection.
Set this up last night and it went very easy with the excellent instructions. Transfer rate from computer A to computer B (wired) of a 1 gb file was 12 mb/s and that was from SATA 3 to SATA 3 discs. Using a gigabyte router those values were 55.5 mb/s. Even though this router is only 10/100 that speed is unacceptable. Is there a tip to increase that speed to an expected and reasonable value? Also, the router just quit for no apparent reason and needed a reboot. What are common causes that I might look into to see why this happened.
ASA code 8.3 and higher uses NAT objects and totally changes the NAT rule config. I am new to FWSM .... but was wondering if this comparable ? I am lookinig at upgrading FWSM 3.1(16) to a higher 4.1 version .... but have a feeling this could be a huge task if NAT config changes as with the ASA's
I am setting up a remote site to provide a backup internet circuit for outbound traffic. Everything is working from the main site by redistributing a static route and using default-information originate within BGP to my MPLS provider. Now on the remote site I setup a static route with an AD of 250 which is higher than the AD of 20 we are getting from the main site over the MPLS network. When the route come up BGP uses the default route from the main site and everything works fine. When I clear the BGP routes at the main site the backup site installs the static route with a higher AD. The problem is when the BGP route comes back up the static route is not getting removed. From looking at some other posts it seems that the redistributed local route is still preferred by BGP. They mentioned setting the weight to 0 in a route map which I tried but I am not getting the results of removing the static route and using the BGP route.Remote site router config: router bgp 65011. We have an ASA5520 firewall, IOS 8.0(4), running in routed mode with an operational Cisco 2821 router to ASA-5520 L2L IPsec VPN.:All Internet searches explain how to enable a L2L IPsec VPN from the LOWER security-level interface to a HIGHER security-level interface- and this is how our setup is configured and it is operational and working fine.:We now have a need to setup another L2L IPsec VPN tunnel on the same firewall BUT this time traffic will be arriving on the HIGHER security-level interface destination is to a LOWER security-level interface.:Is it possible to enable a L2L IPsec VPN tunnel between a HIGHER security-level interface to a LOWER security-level interface?
From My Router that connects to Cable modem i am unable to ping website 4.2.2.2I am able to ping all other websites fines.Same website i can ping from my pc and all other switches fine.Router has only 1 ACL thats for NAT.
I have read that nat control is no longer exist in this version,However, I am trying to permit traffic from lower security interface to higher interface security,Is it need to be Natted ?
When I try to route, i have never succeeded, but when I put a nat, I can access and the traffic go through Do I miss anything on the nat control statement ?
We terminated about 25 site-to-site VPN tunnels on the Cisco ASA 5540 (2 GB RAM). It appears that the memory utilization is getting higher when adding the tunnel. We are planing to remove those 25 VPN tunnels out 5540, and soon we will add additional 40 VPN tunnels on it. So it will be total around 65 tunnels, and maybe add couple tunnels per year for the future grow, but about 25 VPN tunnels are using at all the time, the others are just backup purpose, standby only. We are looking for the new network device (router or ASA) to accommodate the needs. Which network device is better to handle VPN tunnel for this infrastructure?
we are seeing network latency problems and our cpu on the 6509e is spiking and have a above average % for the past week or so. When we do see these spikes it seems that snmp and apr input is high

we recently upgraded our 3560 switches to the new 12.2-55 ios version but have not upgraded our 6509 because its ios is on 12.2(33)SXJ1. Not sure if this is related or not but it seems that after we upgraded to the later ios that the latency started.over the last 24 hours the spike is several times an hour and at least one a day that it hits the 90 - 100 % mark.is there a way that we can limit what snmp view but would not effect functionality or network?

My web browsing/surfing speed decreases when I'm transferring files between other computers which are connected to this modem, and when a torrent client is downloading from 20+ seeds. I want to give the HTTP connections (port 80) the highest priority possible, so that my connection wouldn't delay when non-HTTP connections are active. The interface of the modem related to QoS settings are as below:What QoS settings should I enter (what rule(s) should I define) for giving HTTP protocol higher priority?
Information about my environment:
Modem product ID: TP-LINK TD-8901G Modem firmware version: 3.0.1 Build 100901 Rel.23594 Modem hardware version: 3.1 My OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 My physical port: Enet1 (Eternet #1) My local IP: 192.168.1.2 My torrent port: 5002 IP of the computer I'm transferring files between: 192.168.1.4 Physical port of the computer I'm transferring files between: Enet 2 (Eternet #2)
I have a WUSB600N version 1, with the newest driver (offical 3.0.10.0), my Windows 7 Ultimate installation has the proper regional settings, and within the driver setting the Linksys device has the correct country region (#1, 1-13).However, I am unable to scan and connect to channels higher than 11. as tested with the network manager in windows plus inSSID scanner. My other devices on the same network see the higher channels.

my Wi-fi card is an Intel Centrino 130N. When I connect to the Internet directly, the speeds I get are: DL: 11 MBs and UL: 9 MBs. (I know the difference between MB and Mbits). Although, when I'm connected through wireless, I get: DL: 3.4 MBs and UL: 4.7 MBs.how do I get my DL speed to be higher than the UL speed in wireless mode ? I read somewhere I have to disable QoS and WMM, but I simply can't find that option in the router's settings. even if I am in the same room as my router, when I check the status of the wireless connection, the maximum speed is 72 mbps. Should that be 130 mbps, as I run it in N mode, not G? How to improve that ? I have Win 7 and all the latest drivers and everything.
I'm having with VSS Failover. Currently I have two 6504's setup for VSS with one connection to the sup engine (10Gig__Connection) and the other connection on the Module 3 10Gig Blade and the same setup on the other 6504.My question is: If the active 6504 has a power outage or the link on the sup engine goes down, and the standby 6504 becomes active, what happens when the Failed 6504 comes back online with a higher priority and preempt set? What happens with the 6504 that took over as Active and now eeds to go back to Standby, what's required?
What I'm seeing is once the Standby took over and became Active in order for him to go back to Standby mode it's asking for a reload to take place is this NORMAL?
