Adding Printer To Wireless Network?

Mar 3, 2011

I am not a tech person, so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Tech supportme because no one wants to comment on if/how to attach equipment manufactured by some other company.I have a wireless home network using a Netgear DGN2280 router/modem. I also have an HP Officejet 5800 printer that I would like to add to the network. This is a USB printer that DOES NOT have a network card of any kind.I have heard of a print server, and know that it obviously has to do with hooking a printer to a network, but don't know if it will work in my application. Will this work for me?I just now noticed that there is a USB port on the back of the router/modem. can I hook my printer up to that port (and leave it hooked up) and print across the wireless network? I don't care if my printer has to be wired to something. I would just prefer that my laptop not have to be wired directly to the printer.

Adding A Non-wireless Network Printer Via Wireless?

Apr 5, 2011

My problem is the whole network (router / switches) is located in one end of the office building and the printer is located in the other end. Its a big multi functional printer with copy, scan etc. At the momemt we have a loooong network cable running on the floor from the one end to the printer.

Unfortunately we dont have an easy way to install cables above the rooms and that way connect the printer via cable to the other end of the building so I need some sort of wireless solution.

The range is approx 20 meters.

I was thinking of installing a wireless router in the printer room and then some wireless adaptors in the pc's (they dont have wireless cards at the moment). But can the pc's have trouble-free connection to both lan and w-lan at the same time ?

Belkin Router Doesn't Specifically Have Wireless Bridge Capabilities

May 23, 2012

I'm trying to set up a wireless bridge as part of my network and I'm having some issues.I'm only assuming I need a wireless bridge setup based on what I've gathered in forums such as this, but perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree.Internet Modem --hard wire-- Belkin F9K1102 Router {{{fancy wifi waves}}} TP-Link TL-WR340G Router --hard wire-- CPU..I already have a working wireless/wired router (Belkin) that I use to get online. I have a CPU that can only connect to my network via hard wire in another room. Running a hard wire from my Belkin router to the CPU is NOT an option. Therefore, I would like to use my TP-Link router (which has built in WDS wireless bridge capability) as a wireless bridge and have it connect to my Belkin router and thereby the network and the internet via wifi. I will then connect my CPU to the TP-Link router via hard wire.

I've tested both routers directly and independently connected to the modem and they both work fine. The issue I have is only in trying to get the bridge between them to work. I've followed various tutorials (TP-Link website, YouTube videos, site like this one, etc.) to no avail.I know that my Belkin router does not specifically have wireless bridge capabilities, but I'm not sure if BOTH routers having this capability is necessary for a wireless bridge to work or not.I also have multiple screen shots of the router configuration settings for both routers which can be provided if need be.

Adding A Wifi Router On Static Ip?

Dec 14, 2012

Here at work we have a Vigor Modem/Router hosting our connection to the world. It was originally on DHCP & the 4 computers & 2 printers found their own IP addresses without problem. We added a Linksys router via ethernet (to a lan port not the wan) in another area of the yard. This was fine also on DHCP and connecting wirelessly from a laptop or mobile phone was a doddle. Then our oh so wonderful IT geek decided to put the Vigor on a Static IP along with all the computers connected to it. This has some how cut off the wifi capability of the Linksys router now.It is basically acting as a hub for two laptops and nothing else.In simplistic terms with some detail what settings need changing on the Linksys if any?The Vigors internal IP is 192.168.1.1Linksys is 192.168.1.4both on subnet 255.255.255.0I have been advised to set the Linksys to a static IP on the Internet Connection option but what set of figures do i need for that??

Linksys Wireless Router :: New E2500 Port Light For Wifi Printer Not On?

Aug 18, 2011

I have just upgraded my Linksys router from an older one to the E-2500 about a week ago.  Everything is working great on my wired desktop and 3 wireless laptops except the printer will no longer work from any of the computers.  I've checked the printer wireless settings and they are correct (ssid and password) and it says it's connected to the wlan.  Each of the computers shows the printer is active and set to default BUT the port light on the back of the new router is not on. I have changed cables and still no light, the printer is set up for sharing and it did work a couple days ago but port light was on then.

I have not added anything that wasn't hooked up on my old router, I"m just trying to get what I had on the old router to work on the new one. Everytime I call support, they have me change something that messes up what a previous agent had me do. Now they want me to pay for a direct connection so they can upgrade my router firmware...they didn't even ask what version I already had which happen to be the same version that is available on [URL] so if I had agreed, I would have paid for nothing. I had already paid $29.99 for additional 14 day support on my old router only to find out I needed a new one.

I've been using Linksys routers for quite awhile but I'm just about ready to change brands. I would really like to give this E-2500 a chance.

Traffic is about 300 - 400 Mbps duplex.

100000 -  150000 PPS

Expected this to get to about 3000  connected clients.

Traffic about 500 - 700 Mbps duplex.

150000 -  200000 PPS

Before these end their duty Are they up for the task, or do you reccomed something different?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Capabilities?

Sep 12, 2012

I'm currently looking at the slew of firewall options out on the market. I have the task of recommending one for a client that has the most functionality for a reasonable cost (preferably no more than $800). I typically would go with the ASA 5505 w/base lic. I have been using ASA devices for some years now and they have been great. But, as with the ever changing internet and security threats, would I be ok in going with the ASA? I'll admit I'm not knowledgeable in all the capabilities of the ASA. Is it considered a "Nex-Gen" firewall? Where is the ASA ranked in comparison to the other options like SonicWall, Juniper, Fortinet, etc.? I've worked with SonicWall and Juniper, but did not like them. It has been sometime though, so maybe they have gotten better.

With having layer 7 filtering and IDS/IPS capabilities, one feature I will need is VLAN capabilities and ability to provide separate DHCP service for each VLAN (ASA can do this). I will be setting up a guest, internet only, network. VLAN trunking would be nice (ASA can do this with security plus lic, expensive though). In addition, having solid VPN capabilities (client and site-to-site). Good product support and documentation is a must too.

Can't See Wifi Printer?

Dec 16, 2011

Been using an Epson Artisan 800 for years over a long USB cable. Love the thing to pieces, until it broke printing on it's 800th CD or so. Replaced with an Epson Artisan 835 and wanted to it set it up WiFi this time (new office layout doesn't lend well to a USB cable). But I can't see the damn thing on the network! And I don't think it's the printer's fault either, since it's the second one I've tried.Printer says it's connected to the router. Shows full signal strength on front panel. All network connection tests available on the printer's touch screen pass quickly:SSID checkCommunication Mode checkSecurity Mode checkMAC Address Filtering checkSecurity Key/Password checkIP Address checkDetailed IP Setup checkBut my Win 7 box can't see the printer!Running the Epson connection wizard on my Win 7 box failed, so I assigned both static IPs in the router's DHCP panel (192.168.1.101 and .105). The printer's network test page shows the IP stuck. Power cycled both printer and router twice each. No dice. IPconfig shows that the PC's IP stuck too.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 Expansion Capabilities

Aug 28, 2011

Before I decide to purchase the ASA5510 as our firewall solution I'd like to clear up some confusion I have regarding its expansion capabilities. According to the Cisco website, the ASA5510 supports 1x SSM expansion slot. Intrusion prevention (IPS) is supported via the AIP SSM. Content Security (anti-virus/spyware, file blocking) is supported via the CSC SSM.

One would assume that only one of these expansions can be enabled at time since it is clearly stated that the ASA5510 supports 1x SSM expansion (AIP SSM or CSC SSM). However, the Cisco representatives I've spoken with on the phone claim I can concurrently run both the AIP SSM and CSC SSM in a single ASA5510.

Also, I am debating if the ASA5510 is overkill for our network infrastructure and perhaps we should be going with the ASA5505. Essentially, we have a large network of users and we'd like to firewall three machines from the users such that only certain users (15 users) are allowed to access them. Are there any other compelling arguments to use the ASA5510 instead of the ASA5505 aside from the fact that ASA5505 does not support content security?

How To Connect Pc To Printer Over Wifi

Jul 17, 2011

I don't know how to go about this but basically i have a cable modem connected to a router which then connects to my 3 pc's. (all using windows xp)they can all use the printer just fine.i got this NEW pc(windows 7), which is not physically connected to this router. instead, i set up a wireless connection to it. (a wired connection is not possible)internet access also works fine.BUT, i just realized that i think file/printer sharing it cannot do. i think it's because even though it can use the same internet it's on it's own wireless network and not the wired one. so i guess they can't communicate with each other? so i'm wondering. how can i get the wifi pc to talk to the non-wireless printer

Can't Connect To Wifi Printer Through Router

(see my setup below) Here's the result of the first attempts (Node Type and IP Address are NOT good)IP range NOT good 169.254.x.x .Second and temporarily successful attempt (Node Type and IP Address are good) IP Range IS good 192.168.x.x.I know it would be easier to simply buy a Wi-Fi network card for my PC but I would rather learn how to do this manually.
