I have an old laptop, XP Home with SP3, that I want to give to my kids. I am having trouble getting it to log into wireless. It does OK hardwired with an Ethernet cable to my router. The "Atheros AR5004G Wireless Network Adapter Properties," Advanced tab, the "Network Address" shows blank. It comes up marked "not present".I tried the following from an old thread.
View 4 RepliesI bought a new EA3500 too replace my old WRT120N. After I replace it with the same configuration as I had in WRT120N, my dongle Wifi WN100 (Atheros) stop working. Even it indicates that Wifi is connected and dispyed in DHCP current table, I can't ping the device from my PC connected to the router.I rolled back to my WRT120N and all works again.

Of course, there are always wireless solutions, but the options around here are pathetic and comparable to dialup. They were content with this; I moved back in with them for the time being and am not.y solution has been to dump just shy of $1,000 into a point-to-point wireless bridge setup that claims to have a range of 5 miles non-line-of-sight. I have one antenna set up four miles away on top of a building that has high speed internet.Unfortunately, I was a stupid fool and set that end up without enabling security, thinking that it wasn't a big deal. Nobody in that town has a mind for anything but farming and drinking. That was my mistake. Some asshole set a password and forced me to do a factory reset on the access point and now I can find no IP address. It's like it only reset halfway to factory defaults or something

View 6 Replies View RelatedI checked the NIC Properties and the Speed & Duplex only shows the following 10 half, 10 full, 100 half, 100 full and auto. There is no 1000 half and 1000 full. My old gigabit NIC on my old computer shows all, 10s, 100s, and 1000s and the auto. They tried to fix it and even changed the driver but it still is not showing the 1000s. Their option was to change the motherboard with a refurbished one and my computer was just bought just 2 months ago. The original computer had 12GB memory, I7, AMD graphics card, 460 PSU. no blue-ray, no usb 3. The new setup is 16GB memory, I7, Nvidia GeForce GT 550 Ti, Usb 3, Blue-ray, I think 800 PSU.I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64. I have a Gigabit connection from my internet service so I wanted the NIC to go that fast too. The specs shows the computer to have a Gigabit NIC but the properties is not showing the 1000s.

Specs are as follows:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
2.26 P8400 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB DDR2 400 MHz RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS Graphics
And of course, the Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adaptor.It seems that no matter what I do wireless capability cannot be enabled. I tried turning the wireless capability button on and off but to no avail. Then I pressed FN+F2 and it didn't fix it. In both those situations a box which displays the status of the wireless LAN connection comes up, however, it reads "OFF" regardless of me performing the above two "fixes." According to my computer the card is enabled and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device driver but nothing changed.
I cannot stay connected to the internet with my Asus. When I troubleshoot, it says the wifi was not on, turns it on, but I lose connection again and then can't get it back. Brand new. No hardware button.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAT&T recently came out and replaced our Uverse modem, upon which iPad could connect to the new network, but neither of our laptops. I'm only a little technical with hardware/system issues, so after none of the more obvious troubleshooting issues worked, I started searching for more information and came across this site....great!! Eventually resolved the issue, suspect the wired connection through modem/router did the trick, but also updated the network adapter drivers. This (husband's) laptop was doing fine for a few hours, but then suddenly lost connection -- appeared that the network adapter was disabled. But when I went to enable it, it was gone!! It no longer appears in the Device Manager list at all. (It is/was an Atheros AR5700)

By laggy I mean that usually the connection is ok, 20mbps, but like once in a couple of minutes the connection slows down to like 3mb for a minute or so ( Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test) and when it does the connection becomes really slow. This is very annoying when browsing the internet or playing online games, because it causes connection losts, and slows down loading webpages etc. The problem has to do something with my laptop because on my other (wireless) laptops and the wired PC these problems don't occur. The problem also occurs when no other PC is connected to the network.My laptop is an Asus K53SV and my wireless adaptor is an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adaptor. My ISP is UPC (The Netherlands).

I can still see the network, but am told I cannot connect when attempting to connect to it. Restarting/shut down does not solve the problem - I have to restart the router itself, and then my computer will reconnect automatically. View 10 Replies View RelatedAs far as im aware the current set up of the network is two desktops connected to a router and the router is connected to a switch (i didnt assemble the network) Now what im trying to do is get onto the router so i can change the SSID for a wirless connection.i was told by the ISP i was to change my IP, DG and subnet from DHCP to a static setup they gave me, which i did. but when i go into the browser to access the net (and ultimatly put the IP into the adress bar to access the properties) the net connection fails and i cant get on. when i change back to DHCP the net works again but i cant configure the router with this IP because the company has forgoten the admin/password.

We are using WP2/AES for encryption and 802.1x for key management for our WLAN. The question I have is, when I look at one of the client's properties through the WLC 5508, then look at the "AP properties", its says that its using; Authentication = Open System, and WEP state = wep enabled. Why would the AP properties have open system and wep enabled when the WLAN is setup for WP2/AES??? There is also a "Security Information" Section just below the "AP properties" section and this lists the correct settings. Are the "AP Properties" irrelevant in this case?
In windows 7 the wireless network tab in the properties of wireless network connection is missing? But I can give the ip address, subnetmask, gateway and DNS etc.,? How can i enable the 'wireless network tab'?

I was using those two connection on the same computer. Now i office Network admin came and changed the Setting from the LAN Propertied. he removed the default gateway of my server IP address from DNS Server and he gave that ip address to the Default gateway in the LAN Propertied tab. After which i cannot access the wireless. If i change to ip address to the DNS Server my wireless is working..what is DNS Server and Default gateway..... Also i want to know the diffrence between that..
