Backing Up The Data On NAS Devices?

Sep 21, 2012

I have several network shares in my home using two different NAS devices.I am looking for recommendations for backing up the data on these devices.I currently use CrashPlan for backing up my computers.I have 1 share (documents) that I would like to somehow get backed up to CrashPlan (I'm not specifically tied to CrashPlan, it's just what I'm using now). The rest of the shares I would like to just backup locally in the event of hard drive failure.I have tried having my iMac mount the documents share automatically and include that in the CrashPlan backup, but it seems unreliable.

HomePlug Devices Between Buildings / Data Speeds Are Limited To About 5 Mb?

Oct 27, 2011

I have two buildings on my property that I need to network together. One is my home about 3500 Sq. Ft. and the other is a garage about 3000 Sq. Ft. The two buildings are about 250 feet away from each other. Both are fed from the same utility pole that is half way between them. That means both are on the same transformer, but each has its own metered electrical service.Right now I am using 10 Mb. Home Phone Line network adapters. They work OK but data speeds are limited to about 5 Mb. of throughput and the adapters are no longer available. I also have WiFi at both locations but neither one will talk far enough to cover the other building.I also use X10 remote controls in my house. I have tested them from the house to the garage and they do not work at all over that distance

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG120N - Syncing Data Between Devices

Mar 15, 2011

I have small WiFi home network based on WAG120N router. Two Macs, iPad, iPhone, two iPods etc and, unfortunately, endless series of problems. Devices can't see each other - iPad can't see iPhone and vice versa. Syncing of data between devices sometimes works but most of the time it don't. And so on, and so on... I have to restart WiFi on Mac and on iPhone to sync i.e. iBank data. PhotoSync between iPad and iPhone doesn't work but once (?!) it did.

TP-Link ADSL2+ Wireless :: TD-W8951ND Generating High Data Usage With No Devices Connected

May 3, 2013

Region : UnitedKingdom
Model : TD-W8951ND
Hardware Version : V5
Firmware Version : 22.05.2012
ISP :

I have a TD-W8951ND v5 on the latest firmware.

I recently broke my broadband data cap which surprised me as I had not been using the internet much.

I only have tablet which I switched off having first checked the router to make sure there were no other wireless connections and adding MAC address filtering to be sure no one else was stealing my bandwidth. With just my router connected to the ISP, my ISP has recorded 170MB of downloaded data in 3.5 hours. Switching off the router stops the traffic being recorded (as you would expect), but when switched back on the large data transfers start up again.

I have plugged in an older router (not wireless) and no traffic is generated, so it seems to be the TP-Link router rather than my ISP or ADSL circuit that is at fault.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: Backing Up And Restoring ACS 5.x?

Jul 18, 2012

Can I check I've understood the ACS backup and restoration procedure?A backup run from exec as "backup <filename> repository <repository name>" is the same command run automatically by "System Administrator -> Scheduled Backups" in the GUI, just scheduled for me...That backup is enough to completely restore ACS to its state at the time of the backup, including ACS config (Users, Devices, NDGs, etc.) and the View database (reports, historical data, etc.)It's entirely separate from the backups ACS View makes as part of it's purging action. (I only need those if I want to go way back in time, I don't need them to restore a functioning ACS with the recent reports and logs) if I still have a working ACS left after the primary dies, is it not just easier to promote the survivor to primary and then add the replacement in as a secondary and let replication restore the configs? Perhaps re-promote the new box to primary afterwards?

Cisco Switches :: SG200-18 Backing Up Config Not Working Properly

Jun 9, 2011

Is this known bug that you cannot backup (export) full running or startup config from this switch?  Will this be fixed in next firmware? (btw, still no new firmware with CDP support for this script altough sales literature mentions that it should have already been available...)Switch does let you backup configuration as text file (which looks similar to normal IOS config syntax), but it doesn't contain all settings so the file is pretty much useless to restoring the config to another switch. At least following settings are missing from the file:

- management interface config (including DNS settings)
- passwords
- remote syslog server config
- SNTP server config
- IGMP config
- LLDP config

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Can See None Of Devices Attached To Power-line Devices

Aug 15, 2011

I have installed my new E4200 and it works beautifully.  I have several wirelss adapters and a few wired connections through powerline adapters. I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses.  If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However,  I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices?  I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address.  I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible.  I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

TEGs80G - Swap Unmanaged Devices With More Expensive Cisco Devices?

Jun 1, 2012

Currently my home network is being switched via TrendNet TEGs80G unmanaged gig switches. I have been using them for about a year now with no issues. As my home network becomes more advanced, I recently just added a Cisco ASA5505, I am thinking about swapping those unmanaged devices, 4 of them, to managed. I was looking at the Cisco SG300-10 for upstairs, and a 16 port variant for my main core. These devices do not support full Cisco IOS cli, but they are manageable with a rich feature set nonetheless. My question is, should I swap the unmanaged devices with the more expensive Cisco devices, or just keep what works and save the money until I really need to spend it. As previously stated, my home LAN works just fine as it is, however my WiFi, NTV550s, server and workstations are all on the same network. Probably not the most secure but it is what it is without VLAN support.

Wireless Devices Can't Connect To Wired Devices?

Oct 11, 2012

All of a sudden my laptop, android phone and blu ray player (all wireless devices) can't communicate with my wired devices (marantz receiver and samsung tv). Everything still connects to the internet independently but i can't for instance play music from my wireless laptop to my wired marantz receiver. I had no trouble with this last week and didn't change anything (that I'm aware of) I did get Verizon to switch out my router but it didn't solve anything. My wife's computer also cannot connect to wired devices. Lastly, if I connect my laptop with via ethernet cable it sees wired devices fine. I tried shutting off windows firewall but didn't work. I have no other firewall/virus software installed. I can ping to all devices (wired and wireless) from my laptop.

In order to do this, I need to copy all of the changed files to the NAS in the most efficient way possible. I was thinking of using either xcopy or robocopy. What do you think? Is there a command in either one that would allow me to copy only changed data? I don't want to wait another 18 hours worth of copying to move all the information over AGAIN

One contains multiple  a folder called tempDirUserDataFromDb - containing multiple xml files; and another file called ImportExport_ca<number> which contains the maps.  Was there something incorrect in my command?  Can I use still use these files on NCS? Or do I need to redo the export on the WCS?

Cisco :: Migrating DFM Data From LMS 3.1 To 4.2.3

Feb 18, 2013

I need to migrate DFM alarm settings data from LMS 3.1 to LMS 4.2.3 and I want to use this method, [URL] , to extract the data from 3.1 and then inport it into 4.2.3.

I successfully performed it for IP settings, it was easy since the data format was the same.

But the format differs quite alot for Interface and Port data, here is an example:

export from LMS 3.1
IF-hostname/17 [Gi0/0.524] [10.55.254.3]; INTERFACE:;IF-hostname/17; MANAGED_STATE:;EXPLICITLY_UNMANAGED
export from LMS 4.2.3
INTERFACE:IF-hostname/17 MANAGED_STATE:MANAGED GigabitEthernet0/0.524

It looks like I have convert interface names, sort and delete stuff to make it look the same.
