Aug 17, 2012I have a desktop PC where the only internet connection is via a 'USB mobile broadband dongle'.I have connected the PC via ethernet cable to the ethernet port on a d-link wifi router (which isn't connected to the internet).I'd like to be able to connect other non-PC devices (eg my mobile phone) to the router via wifi in order to connect to the internet.To do this, I gather that one possible solution is to bridge the LAN and dongle connections. My first problem is that in 'Network Connections', only my USBdongle connection is shown (see pic) - there is no icon for the LAN/ethernet. In device manager, the "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter" and "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller" are both showing without any ?'s etc
Other info:I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 on a HP Pavilion All-in-one MS200 desktop.

Oct 3, 2012I recently got a toshiba satellite laptop running win xp.. at first when i connected it had internet..but after adding avg antivirus it began showing limited or no connectivity. ran antivirus ... cleaned up system..changed the ip addresses and now it says connected.. but i cannot go to google or any other online page. it says there is no response from default gateway or dns server... not sure what else to do . I tried rolling back system to before i did anything and still the same.

May 13, 2011So I'm trying to fix gateway laptop running Vista. The computer can connect both wired and wirelessly to the internet just fine. Sadly that's all it does. It doesn't let you use IE/Firefox/Skype or video games or anything. Every program acts like you're not connected. All signs seem to point towards it working just fine. I'm at a loss and can't figure out what's wrong with it.
Also, the internet works just fine if you start in safe mode with networking. You can use IE/Firefox just fine. I've tried turning off proxies and such but there aren't any as far as I can tell.

Apr 26, 2011I just got a DIR-655 and set it all up pretty easily. I have 6 wired and 3 wireless. All work fine and all are set to use DHCP. But if I go (in the router) to the Lan Computers list under Device Info, three devices (2 wired, 1 wireless) do not appear. I do have a switch added to the system, but of the three devices connected to it, 1 shows in th Lan Computers list and the other 2 do not.Since everything works, I'm mostly just curious why this is. Every previous router I've had showed everything correctly.

I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?

My TWCable Keeps Crashing
Jul 27, 2012I got myself TimeWarner Cable, rated at around 15/1 mbps. The guy came and just connected the line from my place, ran it all around my room and plugged it into a Motorola SB5100 Modem. My AV is ESETNOD32 version 5.
My problem is as follows: Before yesterday, I had DSL (1mbps) and it never crashed on me. No matter what website I went to, the connection was stable. The DSL modem had wireless and it was 100% stable too. Here I have a (new?) cable modem that gives me a connection 15x faster but it crashes so often! When the guy set it up, he told me to get speedtests, so I ran on speedtest.net and speakeasy to get them. The sites loaded and my internet was fine. But today, whenever I try to get to those sites, my internet crashes immediately. Not only that, but I notice that when streaming HD on Youtube or elsewhere, the connection tends to crash sometime afterwards. Additionally, the connection may sometimes just crash randomly while I do just about anything.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Keeps Crashing Once A Day
Mar 20, 2011I just registered the DIR-655. I saw it was on sale on Newegg for around $50 w/ a $15 promotional code. I decided to purchase that, and I have had it for the past 4 days. Firmware is Version 1.32NA. Hardware version A4.Unfortunately, it has been crashing once a day (I noticed it usually crashes between a window of 4:30pm and 6:30pm if that makes any difference). What happens is that it starts to slow down my entire net. That lasts for about 5-10 minutes before my entire net crashes to the point that I can't even access my router. I have to restart the router and cable modem afterwards..
Today, after the crash, I decided to connect my own primary computer straight to the cable modem. Internet started to work while connected straight to cable modem, but it was pretty slow. I did not run a speed-test so I don't know the exact speeds it was getting.Here's how my network is setup. Before I get to it, I want to say that it is a bit messy. I am removing one of the routers (the Ativa one). Goes like this:

It has been working perfectly fine with no issues whatsoever up until two days ago when suddenly our wireless network disappeared from the available networks. We have all the updated firmware. Originally we tried setting up a new network, that worked for about 20 hours before the network crashed again. Once it had crashed that time, I was just planning to wait it out until my husband got home so he could assist me with it but before he arrived him the network mysteriously reappeared. That night it once again disappeared. The following morning it was still lost, so I reset the router to the factory settings using the button on the back, and once my computer detected it router again I once again set up a new network. That worked and my connection was fine for about 12 hours this time before it once again crashed. I brought my laptop to connect it to the internet via the cable, and after when I disconnected it to leave the room the wireless was back up again.

Sep 4, 2012We are in an organization of 80 users with 5 Sx300 series switches with the latest firmware (1.2.7.76). The network is mostly flat with all switches feeding into a Cisco ASA5505 acing as the primary gateway for Internet Access. Only our two 48 port POE switches have an additional vlan configured for the VoIP phones. We have one SG300-10MP that is powering 5 Cisco Aironet 1024N's that keeps crashing. A couple weeks ago it went down twice in one day. I updated the firmware and it did not have any hiccups unitl today. This issue has been consistent since we installed the switch in April. Originally the issue seemed to be caused by too much bonjour traffic causing a buffer overflow (we have over 100 Apple products). Since I updated the switch I have not seen any bonjour buffer overflow errors. Instead I get the following error when it crashes:

I live in apartments that provide internet to everyone that lives there, and had been living here for a few months before this started happening.I now constantly have my internet crashing in the middle of browsing/gaming. I will either open up my laptop to the internet not working already, or it will work, but crash randomly while I am using it.
Trying to load a page on google chrome, it will show a message saying DNS Lookup Failed, and an icon will pop up in the right corner of my screen with a yellow (!) triangle. If I hover over it, it will say no internet access.I've followed the few steps they had on there, but none of them worked. I've never had a problem like this before, and haven't made any modifications to anything on my computer lately, so I am pretty confused as to why this is happening. I know it is something on my end, because my roommate's internet is just fine, and even used my ethernet cord on her computer, and no problems at all.

Feb 11, 2012I just acquired a Kindle Fire for my wife. Joined my Dir-655 network just fine. I have never done a firmware update (using 1.10) and have lived by the "if it ain't broke. " axiom. Dell laptops, Mac laptops and desktops, Wii, X-box, LG Cinema TV, Roku, iPad, multiple iPhones and iPods all connect and work fine (with the occasional (once a month) reboot of the router necessary). Using cable modem (bridge mode), no historic issues. Suddenly when the Kindle Fire is utilizing the network at the same time as one or two other devices, the network crashes, and a power down reboot is necessary. A Google search reveals a fair number of complaints about this across router brands.
