Oct 14, 2012I recently ran an upgrade on my 6509-E's and when the first switch came back up, 3 of the 10/100 switches that were in the chassis did not power on. After further investigation, these models are not supported by this latest IOS version. The module # is : WS-X6248-RJ-45
We have one WS-X6348-RJ-45 and since it was a few weeks ago I did this I can't remember for sure but I believe this one came up.
Where can I found the information regarding this being unsupported but I know it is out there and any page that showed me that this was unsupported with the latest stable IOS of 12.(33).
In addition to this question, I have approval to purchase some newer gigabit switches that will be supported by this new IOS version and hopefully at least the next few over the next few years. Which specific gig models are currently and hopefully should be supported for the next few years? I don't need PoE or anything spectacular, just regular switches that are attached to either servers or virtual hosts. I've been looking at the lists of what is out there and it seems like there are hundreds of different models and it is becoming difficult to determine what is what.

May 9, 2013I'm currently running CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 on Windows 2003 under VMware and just got upgrade licensing for Prime Infrastructure 1.2. I am assuming that I will need to upgrade the current server to Prime LMS 4.2 in order to ensure that data migration to Prime Infrastructure goes well. I am planning to follow Cisco's recommendation to run Prime LMS and Prime Infrastructure in parallel for a time and migrate individual functions.
My real question is about Syslog handling. All of the managed devices are currently sending Syslog data to LMS. As a last step in the migration, is it possible to change the IP address of the Prime Infrastructure server to replace the Prime LMS server so that the Prime Infrastructure server will just start getting all the Syslog data, or do I need to go change hundreds of managed devices to point to a new address?

Dec 11, 2011I've seen a lot of things I want to and need to fix to get our network more secure but my first order of business is Visio diagrams of the old network and projected diagrams of the new network when we move to our new DC next Saturday. I've made maybe 1 diagram on my own thus far and have edited a few. I want to create physical and logical diagrams but I'm not quite sure what to include and what not to include on either since I haven't seen a wealth of diagrams up to this point in my career.
1st question: Does anyone know where I can get visio stencils of IPS modules for ASA 55xx series? Didn't see them on Cisco's stencil site or with a google search
2nd question: Our network is setup like this... A stack of 3 3750s act as our "Core" and have a 2 port etherchannel to every layer 2 2960 switch (15) in the network. In a physical diagram, 30 links would make it a little busy, hell even 15 links represented as the etherchannels would be busy

Mar 31, 2011We have a 6513 which had 2x 8port (WS-X6708-10GE) 10GB modules one in slot 10 and another in slot 12. Between this two modules we created a 4 port trunk 40GB (2 ports in each module) between the 6513 and a Nexus 7018. Yesterday we swopped one of the moduless for a 16 port 10GB (WS-X6716-10GE) and cannot trunk between the two cards. Only 2 ports work in either one or the other. Seems because of the difference between them (DFC3CXL & DFC3C). Taking a look at the logging we noticed something to the fact of incompatability QOS feature between them.

Nov 23, 2012we have a old Nexus 5010 running version 5.0(3)N1(1)it is in a franckenblock(like frankenstein) ie . we bought the parts and create our own system design before VCE was created. He have since bought VCE V block for our production sites. we use the franc ken block to test before we migrate to the production v block 300 FIX the issue we have is the 5010 will only see two 1 Gb/s SFP fiber modules in the first 12 slots. All these slots are dual 1g/10G. If we add more than two, it claims not to see them. We tried swapping the sfp and using both sfg-GE-MM and GLC-SX-MM moduels, no difference at all 1g sfp are in the first 5 slots. only the first two slots are up.the others say "Link not connected" or "SFP not inserted"all five links are the same SFP and are plugged in other switches.the green link lights are on plugged in SFP, even when the CLI states they are not plugged uni tried both two types of 1 Gb/s SFP. sfg-GE-MM and GLC-SX-MM ,i move the sfp between slot 1,2 and 3,4,5. nothing changed,From "sh int brief" you can see that it can see the sfp ie they are all 1Gfrom "sh int status " it sees 1g but why does it say type 10G?why when i go to the "int e 1/5" and try switch port mode now, it can't mode and trunk at now there (;also how to i stop or clear EU51 %SYSMGR-2-TMP_DIR_FULL: System temporary directory usage is unexpectedly high at 87%.i put as much info in the attached file as i could.
