Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.3 Error When Changing Device Group Or Location
Jun 13, 2012
I am trying to move a device from the Default location to a sub group and get the following message when I try (either with IE or Firefox)
This System Failure occurred: Index : 0, Size: 0. Your changes have not been saved. Click OK to return to the list page.
it also gives me the same error if I try and change the Device type from default to a sub group. I'm sure I could do this previously. The ACS build is (VMWARE install):
Cisco Application Deployment Engine OS Release: 1.2ADE-OS Build Version: 1.2.0.228ADE-OS System Architecture: i386

Version information of installed applications---------------------------------------------
Cisco ACS VERSION INFORMATION-----------------------------Version : 5.3.0.40Internal Build ID : B.839
I'm suspecting it a read/write issue with the database or a database corruption. I have stopped and started the application acs via the console and show application status acs has the following to say about itself.

I have a problem where occasionally a user will attempt to login and the LDAP search will find the user but then fail when it does the group search. The error I get is below
22037 Authentication Passed
22023 Proceed to attribute retrieval
24032 Sending request to secondary LDAP server
24016 Looking up user in LDAP Server - testuser
24004 User search finished successfully
24027 Groups search ended with an error
24034 Secondary server failover. Switching to primary server
24031 Sending request to primary LDAP server
24016 Looking up user in LDAP Server - testuser
24004 User search finished successfully
24027 Groups search ended with an error
22059 The advanced option that is configured for process failure is used.
22062 The 'Drop' advanced option is configured in case of a failed authentication request.
Some users never get this error, others will get it once in a while and I have one user that gets it every time they try and login.

I'm trying to configure ACS 5.1 as radius server for a catalyst switch but i can't make it work.I keep on getting the "11033 Selected Service type is not Network Access" error message.
Tacacs works fine but radius does not. Any sample device administration config to use with RADIUS?it seem the service type does not work with radius in this scenario ( radius + device admin).

I've just installed ACS 5.1 and noticed that it seems to count managed devices differently than previous versions.
I have a 500 count license which should be fine as I have about 100 devices which will use ACS for TACACS. On ACS 3.x and 4.x, I would set up AAA clients by using a wild card for the subnets that host our routers/switches, say 192.168.1.0/24, 172.16.1.0/24 and 10.1.1.0/24. when I do this with ACS 5, I get a Managed Device Count Exceeded error messasge becasue of the potential of more than 500 AAA clients. It seems to be counting every IP address in the subnet as a managed device, even if there are only a handful actually in use. Is there a way around this short of having to manually enter (and maintain) the exact IP Address of every managed switch and rotuer which will use the ACS server for TACACS?

I'm looking for some input on RRM. I personally have NOT used it in a LONG TIME, since probably the 4.0 days and then very shortly due to massive issues it was causing and admittedly, in part due to my ignorance at the time. So, every since that point, I have always set all my channels and power manually but now feel I am getting to some points where RRM may be required / beneficial. So, I've invested some time and have begun researching and trying to get the ends and outs on it but I'm forseeing a potential issue in myworld anyways and am hoping for some clarification. Lets take the below example:
-WLC5508a and b - (2 100ap license controllers) - these hold the majority of the AP's for the main hospital.Lets say, 140AP's.
-WLC5508c and d - (1 100ap and 1 50ap licensed controllers) - These tend to hold our smaller sites and and buildings, not all connected and some a few miles from each other
-WLC4402a and b - (failover ready)
So, with RRM, I can set setting it up on the 5508A/B with out issue as this is one big large building. However, what about C and D? I suppose I can make them a separate RF Group, but how would RRM respond when it has16 AP's in Building X and then 3 AP's in Building Y 30 AP's in Building Z and sporadic buildings with 1's and 2's? Everything I've read so far, leads me to believe if these devices are separated it probably won't be an issue, however, I just don't want something causing a change in Building Z and Building X be affected because RRM decided it would try to fix it. My point is, I can't afford to have a separate RF Group (meaning separate controllers) for every location.

I have an Ubuntu 10.04 and basically I would like to achieve this:When I am at home, switch the network to use static IP.When I am at the office, switch the network to use DHCP.
Is there a program to do this?Or is this something that should go inside an init script where if it is weekend or weekday from 7 pm to 7 am, then consider it a home. If it is home, then use static IP.?

I have a new Cisco Secure ACS 5.2 on a VM. We want to use it to for administrative access to our Cisco equipment with TACACS+. I am trying to map user permissions to different groups of devices based on active directory group membership, however it is not working.
I am using an LDAP (configured for secure authentication) external identity store. On the directory organization tab, I have confirmed the accuracy of the subject and group search base and the test configuration button shows that it's finding > 100 users and >100 groups.
On the directory groups page I have entered the groups according to the required format. cn=groupname1,ou=groups,dc=abc,dc=com
I have a rule based result selection under group mapping. I have two rules in the format below.
Conditon
LDAP:Externalgroups groupname1
Result
Identitygroup1
I have the default group set to a identity group named other. My problem is, no matter what user attempts to authenticate, the Default rule is applied, and the user is put into the other identity group. This occurs when I log on as a groupname1 user, groupname2 user, or as user that is not a member of either of those groups. LDAP authentication works and the user is able to logon to the device.

I'm currently looking for a solution in order to restrict the modification of the host internal identity store (add or delete MAC host) per group. The default administrator roles does not include "per group restriction". Under the ACS I defined one group per department? My objective it to allow each department to access their ACS MAC database to add or delete MAC addresses as required.
How to restrict internal identity store per group?Do I need to create new roles? and how?I was not able to get an answer from the ACS ADMIN manual.

When ever I create a network object in ASDM 6.0(3) the UI also wants to send the command 'asdm location (network object IP address)' to the device. What is the purpose of 'asdm locaction ....'? Is it telling the ASA-5540 that the IP address is allowed to connect to the device using ASDM?If that is the case why does 'asdm location xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'get denerated for every network object I create?

I scheduled a periodic job (for example the compliance check job) on week basis and I specified one user's device group for this job (for example the branch_routers group). All is working, but when new devices are added to this group (the branch_routers group), the scheduled job is not provided for these new devices. Is it the default behaviour? Can I change it?

i'm working with a client on an ISE deployment and they would like to have the remote locations take advantage of it for dot1X. The potential problem that i see though is this--they have ASA5505s for tunnels back to the main location, which is great, but they also use the built-in switch...i know there are issues with the larger ASAs that require the IPN. I'm wondering if they'll need a different switch for this to work?

I need to change the timezone of two ISE 1.1.2 servers. One primary and one secondary. Both are set to "EST" timezone and i would like to change them to AMERICA/Montreal because they are now one hour late since day light saving change.
According to the release notes, it is not recommended to change the timezone on ISE after the installation. I'm thinking of doing a backup of the ISE application (in the maintenance GUI or CLI) and then changing the timezone on both servers. After the change the ISE servers will gain one hour. So after i will do a restore of the backup i did just before the timezone change. The timestamp of the backups will be older then the current time of the servers.
Will this work? Is it the best way to change the timezone?

I recently purchased a new ASA5505 and have been having trouble creating a site to site VPN to another location/device. I've used the VPN Site to Site wizard to configure the VPN but after the wizard completes how does one verify VPN connectivity via ASDM? Also, I've run debug crypto IPSec and isakmp and see absolutely nothing? So how does one verify that the VPN is up and if it is not, how does one troubleshoot why it is not? The other side is configured and I had no trouble getting this same VPN working on an old Watchguard device.

DHCP Client and Network Location Awareness aren't working. When I tried to start DHCP Client, I got Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on the Local Computer.Error 5: Access is denied. I checked the dependencies and all of them were on. For Network Location Awareness, I got the error Windows could not start the Network Location Awareness on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service cendor, and refer to service-specific error code -1073741288. One of its dependencies is fine, but I don't know how to check the other two, Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock and NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver. Also, how do I check the event log?Everything on the list that was said to check is running expect these two the lisie was having problems with. I have not had anything with memory recently and have not been able to successfully go through a system restore. I have tried many of the suggestions and just am not sure what to do anymore. I have two ACS v 5.2 (primary and secundary) and some users are in the internal stor and the others are in the AD.The local site topology is like this:
PC - AP - WLC - ACS - AD
Authentication method is PEAP(EAP-MSCHAPv2) and all user have the certificate company installed. The OS in the client users is Windows 7.Users was working fine but some users reports intranet disconnections. I see in the ACS log many "22056 Subject not found in the applicable identity store(s)." and "24415 User authentication against Active Directory failed since user's account is locked out" alarms.I believed it was because user wasn´t in the AD data base, but some times the same user is authenticated successfull and other i see the "22056...." or "24415...." alarms.
I switched the role for ACS primary to works as secundary and we see the same alarms.

I have a problem implementing a NAR for a specific device group. I am running Cisco ACS 4.2 and it works fine for all the other stuff I do but this issue is perplexing me a bit.
I have a device group with Juniper devices in it and I authenticate using RADIUS (Juniper) as the radius setting. I have a Administration user group set up.
I placed a NAR into the group "Per Group Defined Network Access Restrictions" specific to the device group with * for port and address
I placed this group into both the Define IP-Based as well as the Define CLI/DNIS-based section.
No matter what I do I keep getting authenticated.
When I go to the passed authentications page I see my login and the group-name is identified correctly and the network device group is identified correctly too. The filter says "no filters activated". So how can I get this NAR to kick in? I would like to restrict one device group from a ACS user group.

I am configuring a new ACS 5.3 system. Part of the rules is that I want to match the users specific AD group membership, and match appropriatly to an identity group. What i'm trying to do is say that if the user is a member of the AD Group (G-CRP-SEC-ENG) then associate them with the Identity Group SEC-ENG. The under the access service, authorization portion, i assign shell profiles and command sets based on Identity Group. It seems that the ACS server will not match the AD Group for the user, and it will match the Default of teh Group Mapping portion of the policy every time.
I tried several configuration choices from : AD1:ExternalGroups contains any <string showing in AD>, AD1:memberOf <group>.Is there something special i need to do in the Group Mapping Policy to get it to match and active directory group and result in assigning the host to an Identity Group?

We are using ACS 4.2.1.15 with patch 8 on ACS 1113 SE box.
Our requirement is to assign ACS loal group to user on basis of windows Nt group. Which means I dont wants to create individual users in ACS rather when user will login, the auth request will be forwarded to AD(remote database). Depeneding on the remote database group the user should be mapped to local database.
For this I have configured "database group mapping" according to following cisco guide. [URL]
However when ever my AD users are authenticating they are getting the membership of default group as configured in "Default" profile. I am using TACACS+ protocol in my routers and switches for authentication.
whether "Group mapping by External user database" works with TACACS+ or only with RADIUS protocol. If it works with TACACS+ what else configuration need to be done so that my ACS can map users to proper groups instead of default group.
