Home Network :: Multiple Access Points Connected By Wireless Bridge?

Sep 27, 2011

I have a router that is capable of wireless N at 5.0GHz but can't run simultaneous with it's 2.4GHz band a/b/g (Cisco Linksys E2000), so I have a second router acting as gateway for my b/g devices (and a few wired only that are nearer to it). They are connected LAN port to LAN port with 50ft of cat6 and the DHCP server running on only one router. I know this is pretty standard for multiple access points, and it works very well. But I'm moving, and in the new house, the internet access will be on one floor with the wireless N router, and the other router will need to be in the basement on the opposite end of the house, and running networking cable through the floor and walls is just too much trouble. My question is, can I replace the previous wired method with a wireless N bridge attached to the LAN port of the router in the basement and have it function in the same way as it did when it was wired, with only the DHCP server running on the wireless N router, and all devices attached to either router able to see each other? I would assume so, but I would like to know from anyone who has experience with it before I go buying the bridge.

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 - Web Auth DNS Host Name Section Not Resolved

Mar 8, 2012

We have recently implemented a 3rd party certificate for the guest access, currently have a WLC 5508 that has a Vlan directly connected to our DMZ firewall and NATed out. The problem is when I have installed a 3rd party certificate as per the following link URL

The DNS host name that I entered into the DNS Host name section is not resolved. If I remove the DNS name and leave the virtual ip address 1.1.1.1 then it works fine but just comes back with untrusted message.

Cisco Wireless :: How Many Clients Can Be Connected To 2600 Series AP

May 8, 2013

My question relates to how many clients can be connected to a 2600 series AP.  The documentation states 200 clients per radio and the AP has three radios.  However when my AP gets to 200 it rejects further clients with the following log: [code] I see this exact message many times and each time the radio mac address is the same and the number of clients connected is 199.   The same mac address is used for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz so does this AP have a single logical radio covering both 2.4 and 5ghz frequency ranges and is the limit for all connected clients 200?When viewing the AP details under the Wireless tab it only lists one mac address for each AP for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.

Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1600 Standalone WAP / How To Get Clients Connected

May 15, 2013

I just installed an Aironet 1602i, standalone WAP. I have it configured to use a RADIUS server in our office. However, two issues have come up when trying to get clients connected.

iPhones and iPads won't connect to either the 2.4 or the 5 GHz radios.

No one can connect to the 5 Ghz radio.

Both radios are UP according to the GUI interfaces of the WAP. Also, laptops and android devices are able to connect to the 2.4GHz radio but not the 5 GHz radio.

I am on the latest version of the firmware.

Cisco Wireless :: How To Block P2P Traffic Of Clients Connected To Same SSID On WLC 4400

Feb 2, 2010

I use two wlc 4400 (4.2.x version) with a mobility domain and one ssid, both wlc are connected to a cisco l2 switch infrastructure. On the wlc I use the p2p blocking action 'drop' [URL] to isolate the clients from each other. Does only unicast traffic is blocked or also multicast and broadcast traffic like arp requests?Concerning blocking p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid but different controllers I found the following statement in the LAP FAQs [URL]

Q. In autonomous APs, Public Secure Packet Forwarding (PSPF) is used to avoid client devices associated to this AP from inadvertently sharing files with other client devices on the wireless network. Is there any equivalent feature in Lightweight APs?

A. The feature or the mode that performs the similar function of PSPF in lightweight architecture is called peer-to-peer blocking mode. Peer-to-peer blocking mode is actually available with the controllers that manage the LAP. If this mode is disabled on the controller (which is the default setting), it allows the wireless clients to communicate with each other through the controller. If the mode is enabled, it blocks the communication between clients through the controller. It only works among the APs that have joined to the same controller. When enabled, this mode does not block wireless clients terminated on one controller from the ability to get to wireless clients terminated on a different controller, even in the same mobility group.

what's the best practise to prevent this inter wlc client traffic? I already read about using acls on the wlc dynamic interfaces, or private vlans on the l2 switch vlans where the dynamic interfaces are connected to. Is it allowed to completely isolate the wlc from each other on these dynamic interfaces with acls or private vlans or do the wlc need to see each other on this interfaces (e.g. heart beat)?

Netgear WNDR4500 - Clients Not Showing Up In Clients List

Jul 6, 2012

I have a Netgear WNDR4500 running the stock firmware, acting as a router for my home. I also have 2 routers that are flashed with DD-WRT (Linksys WRT54G and Asus WL-520GU) running as client bridges. The Netgear is 192.168.1.1 and the other 2 client bridges are 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.10.3. The Netgear router is performing DHCP giving addresses from 192.168.10.100 to 192.168.10.254. I have numerous machines connected to the Netgear, wirelessly and wired, and numerous machines wired to each client bridge. All machines have IP addresses that are 192.168.10.100, 192.168.10.101, 192.168.10.102, etc... Everything is working fine, but I have one question: When I access the Netgear router, it shows the client bridges as clients, machines that are wired and wireless to the Netgear router are listed as clients, but the client list does not show any clients that are connected to the client bridges. I assumed that since the router is performing DHCP that all clients would show up.

Cisco ASA5505 And Wireless Access Points

May 31, 2011

We have a Cisco ASA5505 here that provides DHCP and routing to all our devices in our network. We also have a few other switches and wireless access points connected directly to the back of the ASA5505.For the past year all the wireless network signals has been working fine however starting last month, none of the wireless access points (we have three WRT54G) would allow proper connection (dropping connection, slow internet).I thought this maybe all THREE wireless access points are toast/bricked. So i went out and bought brand new Netgear WN604 and even with the new WAP i'm having same connectivity issues (really slow internet). When hardwired directly to the switches we get BLAZING fast internet & connectivity, no issues.

I called CISCO TAC and they automatically said "our ASA5505 is fine, it has to be your wireless access points" not working properly. I explained to them that i also purchased two brand new access points and they are doing the samething now, how can that be?

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Access Points Set Up

Apr 9, 2013

I've had some long standing issues that I've tried various things to fix.  I have two WAP4410N access points set up at a smaller sister company.  Wireless clients (laptops) are not receiving DHCP assigned IP addresses.  If I type in an IP manually, it works fine. The sister company has a point to point T-1 connection to our main building.  Our main building has the DHCP server.  The router on the sister company end is configured as the DHCP relay.

I've upgraded the firmware three different times in the past to hopefully resolve the issue, but no luck.  Just today, on one of the WAP4410N's, I upgraded to the 2.0.6.1 firmware (backing up config, reset to factory default, upgraded firmware, reset factory default again, restored config).  After the first reset to factory defaults, the Access Point itself picked up a DHCP address from the server, and I verified this in the DHCP console on the server, so I know that the DHCP relay is working.  However, my laptop would not get a DHCP address when connecting wirelessly through that access point.  It is a Windows 7 Enterprise laptop.  I also could not get a DHCP IP with my iPhone connecting to wireless, to rule out specific issues with just a laptop.I have the DHCP lease times for the subnet that these WAP4410Ns are on set to 2 hours.

To put a cherry on top, there is one laptop that stays in a lab area at all times, connecting wirelessly, and it DOES get a DHCP IP address (I can see in the DHCP console that the lease for this laptop continually renews as needed).  I do remember on initial config when I couldn't get it to work, that I did a manual set up, gained connection, then switched it to DHCP...but that doesn't work for any other laptop. Why would the access points get DHCP address, but not anything connecting to the Access Points?
