View 1 RepliesI am trying to configure an Aironet 1142 WAP model#AIR-AP1142n-A-K9. My setup is very basic, I have a router that acts as the DHCP server, the 1142n, and a PC. I am using the 1142n in Standalone AP mode no authentication, and have it working according to the [URL]. And it is working perfectly. My questions are as follows.
1. I have isolated the wireless users from seeing each other by using ap isolation, Can I prevent the wireless users from accessing the lan pc, router and WAP configuration pages? Is there any way to do that while still maintaining internet access? Basically I just want to provide my users wireless internet access without authentication but don't want them able to see each other or anything on the lan.
I just purchased an Aironet 1142n and need to configure/set it on one subnet in our WAN and ship it to another subnet on the WAN.
I have not been able to access the unit using a network cable from a pc direct connected to the Aironet. The pc's ip address is set to 10.0.0.2 I can not get to the access point thru the web interface using 10.0.0.1.
When I attempted to access it using a Hyper terminal connected to serial port and console port it loaded a list of software and updates and then reported that it shut down and I could not do any thing with it.
What must I do to be able to configuer a static IP and assign it an SSID and Security settings? How can I access the web interface? I have reset it by uplugging the power cord and holding down the Mode button while I plugged back in the power cord and holding it until the light turned amber/orange. Currently the light is solid green with the ethernet port direct connected to the nic card on a desktop.
Need simple configuration for the Aironet 1142N? Optimally, I would like to place 802.11b/g traffic on the 2.4 GHz band and 802.11n traffic on the 5 GHz band.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just recently purchased the Aironet 1142n and am hoping to set it up as a repeater. I've followed the documentation here: [UEL] but am still having problems.
What I'm trying to achieve is: I have an adsl router (TP-link W8960N) at the front of the house but the wireless signal does not reach all the way to the end of the house. I am trying to set up the aironet 1142n to act as a repeater and place it in the middle of the house and hopefully that will extend the wireless signal to the end of the house and remove the dead spots. I would like to do this without having ethernet cables running all over the place and have been trying to configure the aironet 1142n to no avail. Every time I set the aironet 1142n to "repeater" it automatically coverts back to "access point" under role of radio network.
I guess my main question first of all is, can I set the aironet 1142n as a wireless repeater? And if so, where am I going wrong in my configuration?
I've just read that " Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that that do not run Cisco IOS software."
Does this mean the aironet 1142n set up as a repeater will not work if the original access point (in this case, the TP Link adsl wireless router) isn't a cisco brand?
I have a Cisco 1142N configured in autonomous mode.I'm running on:Cisco IOS Software, C1140 Software (C1140-K9W7-M), Version 15.2(2)JA, RELEASE SO FTWARE (fc1)
I can loggon to the web interface but it won't show me th expected status information.
I have bought 2504 LAN Controller and my old 1142 wants to configure to accept that Controller instead of old controller. These APs and controllers in far away site and before I go there I want to figure out how can I do following.
1. How can I configure old 1142(Previously connected with another LAN Controller) to accept New 2504 Controller instead of old controller ?
2. What are the concerns do I need to consider?
I just Bought 1142N AP, I am unable to connect to it or open its Web interface, the Default IPs i am using are 10.0.0.1 for Router and 10.0.0.2 for my PC, whats its Default IP, What IP address should I put on PC, plus Do i need the IOS for the AP?

But the 15.2.2-JA system software release does not install via TFTP Web-GUI (from a accessible PumpKIN TFTP-Server poining on that software update).
What's the problem with that?Is that system software release 15.2.2-JA ED (c1140-k9w7-tar.152-2.JA.tar) not compatible to the Cisco Aironet 1142N Autonomous access points

I have two cisco airenet 1252 autonamous access point that are configured as point to point bridge. Now I want to confiure AES encryption or WPA2 using a pre-shared key however I do not see the option to do this . The only option I see under ciphers are:
wep 128
wep 40
TKIP
[Code].....
Is it possible to use either AES or WPA2 using a pre-shared key on the 1252 autonamous access point? preferably using the web interface.
A Cisco RV220W router/firewall connects the local LAN to the internet. The router is connected to a new Cisco SG300-28P switch configured in Layer 2 mode. There are two new AIR-1142N wireless access points running in autonomous mode connected to 2 ports on the SG300 powered through PoE. The AIR-1142N access points are running the latest firmware version 15.2(2)JB. There are two VLANs defined: VLAN1 is the native on all devices, and VLAN2 is for wireless guest traffic to provide access to the internet only.Internal/staff traffic is on 192.168.100.x, and the wireless SSID is MYNetS.Guest traffic is on 192.168.200.x and the wireless SSID is MyNetG.IP addresses are being assigned by the RV220W.
All works well with one exception. Wireless clients on the internal SSID are able to ping/access the switch, router, and other clients on wired ports on the switch. The router, switch, and wired clients can ping wireless clients. However, wireless clients, on the same SSID and the same 1142N cannot ping/access one another. They are being isolated from each other. We absolutely need to have this capability. The SG300 does not have port security enabled on any port. none of the workstations/laptops have a firewall enabled. These laptops are all Macs btw. I have checked that neither of the 1142N access points have Public Secure Packet Forwarding enabled on either of the VLANs.I am at a loss as to why the wireless clients are being isolated.
Is there a way to configure client/user to AP authentication without using encryption for joining to an wireless network? What we need to do here is protect network access at our hotspots by enforcing a password to get connected. The other part is making it compatible with every possible device so we need to have encryption off. We have a mixed environment at this time until everything is upgraded. Aironet 1200 series and some new Aironet 1142 models. No controller, all standand alone AP's
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using the Express Security Set-up tab to configure an Aironet 1142 (stand-alone) access point with EAP.
Objective is to make it a RADIUS client and have laptops authenticate through this access point to a Windows 2008 NPS (Network Policy Server) using computer (machine) certificates - EAP-TLS.
When I select "EAP Authentication" under the "SSID Configuration" I was literally floored to see mention of WEP encryption (a security joke) and no possibility to prefer some variant of WPA (well, apparently not with EAP).
WPA2-Enterprise is what I've selected for "Authentication" and "AES" for encryption in Group Policy (so the laptop clients automatically connect to the access point).
WEP? I bought a Aironet 1142 access point for WEP encryption? How can I configure this securely?
These are currently configured settings as displayed under the "SSID Table" heading:
SSID - "MYSSID"
VLAN - none
Encryption - WEP Mandatory !!!

I have a Cisco Aironet 1200 series Access point and currently i am using wep with 128 bit . My concern is that i want to change this key with current SSID .
My current SSID is ABtc. My current key is abcdefgh12345. when i try to change the key its give me error :
"encryption key must be 26 hexadecimal characters" .
Does the WUSB11 adapter support WPA encryption?

I've got two WDR3600
the first one is the main router:
- connected to ISP modem
- DHCP on
- 2.4Ghz radio to serve WiFi clients security WPA-PSK
- 5GHz radio to link to the second WDR3600

- 5GHz radio to link to the first WDR3600
protocol 802.11n only
All is working fine, however WDS connection works only with security off. WPA-PSK is not selectable, cannot test WPA2, no radius server available, WEP not supported due to incompatibilty with 802.11n protocol. Is this the expected behaviour? How to get WDS working with WPA-PSK encryption? Could this be due to the firmware or s it a limitation of Atheros chipset?
I have tried to configure EAP-SIM authentication on Cisco Aironet 1131G for Wi-Fi Offload but unfortunately I couldnt make it work. As far as I understand the Wi-Fi standard it is fully supported in 802.11n within WPA2-Enterprise standard. I have read Cisco datasheet for 1131G where your are claiming that you support EAP-SIM in WPA2 also. I have tried to configure it according to configuration guide but it always requires to enter password key first when I try to connect to SSID with configured WPA2 and EAP-SIM. How to properly configure AP or confirm that EAP-SIM needed for seamless 3G/Wi-Fi authentication is supported only within WPA2-Enterprise.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes Aironet Autonomous/Standalone 2602 support WDS (Wireless Domain Service)?
I noticed that Aironet Controller-based 2602 does not support WDS. I would like to use 1242AG series but it will be going EOS soon.
We have been successfully using our Aironet 1140 AP in standalone mode with mainly Windows pcs & laptop users, and now, iPads and iPhones. All seem to connect happily through the 1140.
Recently we have a requirent to be able to use Apple's Airplay. Basically, it is not working through the 1140, it works ok via wired ethernet. Can the 1140 support Airplay? - If yes, what precisely must be enabled/configured?
We have a single Class C network without any Vlans. I understand multicast must be enabled, I can't see where to enable this. How to get this working if it is at all possible.
Does the latest version of the Network Assistant support the AP1131AG / AP1131G model?
From the "supported device list" documentation it seems yes, but I've tried to import them into the map and received the message indicating that is not supported as a device...AP1242AG/1242G are not having this problem.
I find much document, but not found information about whether those support for IPv6 e.g. dual-stack like newer series.

I have my device configured, and it has an IP, subnet, etc.I currently have it connected with serial port to my laptop and used PutTy to get into it,
However, despite it having an IP, I cannot use the web browser with it! This is driving me mad. I want to use the web browser and not the CLI for everything. it has a BVI1 IP as well as an Ethernet address.
I have run into a major issue with an autonomous Cisco 1142AP. We were in the midst of a firmware upgrade when something went wrong and caused the AP to reboot in an error mode. Basically the unit was flashing Blue, amber, red. We unmounted the unit from the wall, connected to the console, and it would now only flash red over and over. We pulled out the cisco guides and performed a factory reset on the unit. This still does not work. and the contents of our flash directory is empty. All we get is a ROMMON AP prompt on the unit. If I issue a set command, I can see the default settings for IP, netmask, etc.
I cannot access the unit via the network, even after setting IP info and matching it up to my laptop. Since I have no network connectivity, I can't TFTP a new IOS file to the unit. I am stumped. How to get the config as if it was out of the box, or an alternate way to TFTP to the unit? [code]Notice the lines in red, I must have typed someting incorrectly. Now once the unit boots after being reset, I cannot even type in the CLI. Someting majorly screwed up here. Can the bootstrap be reinitialized?
Now, with all the unified communications, voice, video and data are in the same device, and I try to give priority to voice and some applications, but in the WLC I can not find the way to mark all that kind of packets.
Is it possible to do that? like in a LAN making the marking as voice, signaling and any kind of application? as I marked in all the LAN.
the equipment:
WLC 5508 v7.0.116
AP 1142N
I been using 1142n Autonomous several times. Now i have new requirement to setup 12 LAP 1142n, using a WLC.Can suggest what model of WLC should i choose?? About 30 users, in a cargo warehouse invironment. Now it is a good time for me to learn & play around with WLC.What else should i need in order for LAP & WLC to work??

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a question with the CAPWAP command. Typically, when I get 1142N from our provider, they have no configuration on them and all I need to do is enter 4 lines of code all starting with CAPWAP and then I have them join the controller and finish the config. This one I just received looks like it has an IOS image or configuration on it. (You can do a show run). I can: show CAPWAP - but I can not enter any CAPWAP commands. They are invalid input detected at marker. How to I get to the point where I can enter my CAPWAP commands ??
