Mar 21, 2011We setup both site-to-site VPN and Remote Access VPN client on VPN 3005 Concentrator. We want to migrate all the configs to the new ASA 5540. Do you recommend that we migrate all the configurations for VPN client first before setting up the site-to-site VPN on the ASA or it does not make any difference?

Oct 2, 2012I have a few sites all running Cisco ASA 5510s. They all share the same asa (8.4(4)1) and asdm (6.4.9) version, but their configs differ significantly. I have a cold spare sitting in my office in the event we have a physical failure. Is there a quick and simple way I can load up multiple configs and then boot up the cold spare to then run the config from Site_A or Site_B? Just looking for a quick solution rather than doing a full restore should something fail spectacularly. Nice to say upon bootup, using confreg perhaps, to boot Site_A config rather than Site_C.

Feb 19, 2013We have a few voip phones, with the voip server in the building. The hard phones have been trouble, with dropouts and occasional bad quality phone calls. The sip provider is absolutely hopeless. The modem router is a DG834Gv5 with fw V1.6.00.33. There is no option in the router interface to edit QoS settings. How can I improve our voip system? have an iphone connected to a handset or something, could that? We are using an iPECS-50A voip server and iPECS LIP-8012D phones.
My second question is in regards to auto attendants. I need to edit auto attendant settings. I assume this is done using the VOIP server. When the IP address is entered, I get a station program option and Admin & Maintenance. Where would I find auto attendant?

Mar 7, 2012I have a client that is running ACS 5.3 as a VM in ESX 4.1. The client wants their VMWare admins to have the ability to shut down the ACS server during maintenance etc... I know I could create a CLI user with admin priviliges, however, assigning full admin priviliges is beyond the scope of what the user requires. They simply want a user account with the added privilige of performing a halt from the CLI. In the CLI Reference Guide for ACS.
So is it possible to create an account with user priviliges, then modify its permissions to allow for a halt?

Oct 3, 2012i have to configure 80 Cisco 876 routers, so i planned to copy config via tftp from one configured router to PC, edit it in text editor (change ip addresses, dhcp pools, vpn keys...) and then copy it via tftp to another router, etc... Configuration looks fine and it works when i paste it in cli, but when i copy it via tftp i'm getting strange problems like dhcp not working or snmp not accessible. Am I missing something.
Here's config from router with dhcp problem:

Oct 12, 2011I'm using the Linksys Wag325N which always served me well. I've always been able to get my VPN to my workplace going. Until now. I've edited a hostfile on my mac (etc/ppp/ip-up) to get a route setup to be able to use internet and the vpn at the same time. But now the vpn would work no more. Why do i think that it is a router problem? Because other computers in my home network aren't able to establish the vpn they used to work with for a long time.
1. is it possible that my /etc/ppp/ip-up on my computer messes up the router?
2. Is there a way to completely reset my router? Tried "restore to factory settings" which did not work. Is there a "harder" reset?

Jan 25, 2012I am trying to configure this router to obtain an IPv6 address from my ISP who offers a dual stack IPv4/IPv6 DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation service.
I did a WAN packet capture to see the type of DHCPv6 packets the router sends to the ISP in order to obtain an IPv6 address and I saw that the router is sending DHCPv6 solicitation packets of type IA_NA i.e. for Identity Association for Non-temporary Address. However, most ISPs that offer a dual stack IP4/IPv6 service, they use DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation in which case the router is expected to send DHCPv6 solicitation packets of type IA_PD i.e. for Identity Association for Prefix Delegation.
I then downloaded its configuration file and saw the following:
dhcpv6c = {}
dhcpv6c[1] = {}
dhcpv6c[1]["renewTime"] = "3600"

So, the option for the DHCPv6 client to perform a prefixDelegation request is disabled. Does that mean that if I set this flag to "1" it is going to work? Well, I edited the configuration file and changed this flag but the router refuses to load it! It complains about the file being changed. How does it know that? Is it computing some type of checksum? How can I manually edit this flag and update the router's configuration?

Mar 6, 2011I'm having trouble TFTPing a configuration from my 851 Router to my computer through a IPsec VPN tunnel that this router is connected though. I am able to telnet and ping all devices on the far-end with no problem. I can TFTP a config from a switch behind this router, no problem. I am guessing this problem is related to an ACL on the router. I am also having trouble connecting to this router using the Cisco Config Professional. Discovery will fail, with connection could not be established or HTTP service is not enabled. I have enabled HTTP service. The CCP works fine when I am on the router's subnet.

- 2 x XP (on which i installed Cisco IP Communicator 7.0.3.0)
- 1 x Ubuntu (running GNS3 with a c3600 Router)
The problem is that the phone which is not in the same LAN with the tftp server cannot register.
1) Can a phone register to a tftp server from another LAN ?
2) If the answer for 1) is yes, what am i doing wrong (you can see the details in the attachments)? I mention that the ping works well anywhere in the LAN.

Jan 8, 2012I have a questions on an Ip phone when getting the firmware from the TFTP server (e.g. CME) after bootup,- After the registration with CME, the IP phone will getting an auto config file which is the Default.xml file. - The CME will acts a a TFTP server which contains all the IP phone's firmware for different models like 7970 and 7640 in different directories.- The CME have configured with the directory path for all the IP phone when the IP phone come to TFTP and acquired the firmware.Let say I have a phone registered is 7970 and what is the mechanism that governs that my 7970 is not downloading the wrong firmware from the TFTP? Let say it might wrongly downloaded the 7640 firmware? Who take care of this? The phone itself? or the CME will tell the IP phone to take only the 7970 firmware via the Default.xml file?

Jul 15, 2012 i am gettinfg the following error while copy the configuration from 6590 to tftp server %Error opening tftp://x.x.x.x/yyyy (Timed out)
1) The file is getting created in the TFTP server but it is empty and a Zero Kb file
2 ) I can able to ping to the FTTP server from the switch
3) I can able to ping to switch from the tftp server
4) The same tftp server is working wih all another Switches (i have checked with anothed TFTP softwares also but the same problem)
5) The switch is in the different subnet, the switch is having several SVIs. Also Configured the command "ip tftp source interface vlan361" (This interface can able to ping from the tftp server and also can do extended Ping from this IP to the tftp server)
6)The communication between Ftp server and the switch want to cross Point to Point WAN link (Another switches can communicate with the tftp server through the same wan link)
7)If i run FTP server on the same System and try to copy running config from 6509 to FTP some times it is working and some times it is giving the error.
Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.3 - Backups Fail To TFTP
Jul 14, 2012I'm configuring ACS for the first time and the config is complete and working, except backups of the view database. I've created a TFTP repositiory and if I perform a manual backup or wait for a scheduled one to occur it fails. I do get a .tar.gpg file in the TFTP server (but can not restore from it as it's not listed in "Restore" as a backup).
It works fine if I create and use a local disk repository. I get a .tar.gpg but also a catalog.xml and repolock.cfg file (which I don't in TFTP). Looking at the logs on the TFTP server I can see it tries repeatedly to read the catalog.xml file but fails:
Read request for file <DB/catalog.xml>. Mode netascii [15/07 16:05:52.167]
File <DBcatalog.xml> : error 2 in system call CreateFile The system cannot find the file specified. [15/07 16:05:52.167]
That seems correct, the file doesn't exist. However it never seems to try and create it.

and allowing access to
tftp-server nvram:startup-config 55
all this inside the router or the switch. From the Linux box just running a simple command such as:
tftp 172.16.0.3 -c get startup-config newbackup.conf
where 172.16.0.3 is the IP address of the switch and newbackup.conf is the name of the config file stored on the Linux machine.So, how do I do that with an ASA box? how to backup ASA from inside it.
Cisco WAN :: Copy Flash TFTP Error Rv042
Feb 24, 2012I have a really stupid problem with my RV042. The main logon password has expired but it will not let me change it at all. Basically I try to login but get the error 'The old password has expired. Please change the password'. But with no prompt at all for a new password and just a return to the login page. Tried various different browsers, tried the old default password but nothing will work. There seems to be no way of changing it and I cannot login.Am I missing something glaringly obvious? I really don't want to reset it to default as I have numerous VPN tunnels configured and various other settings.
