Cisco :: Rack Setup For Two 3550s / 2950s?

Nov 1, 2012

I have two 3550s and two 2950s. I would like to put these on a rack. Where can I buy a rack? I can't seem to find them on new egg because I'm not sure what the steel frame part is called. And how can I get the steel holders that go on the sides of the Cisco devices to screw them onto the rack?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950s / 3550s - Correct Spanning Tree Configuration?

Jan 12, 2012

The network in my building consists of several 2950s connected back to 3550s using redundant fiber links and MST.  Recently one tenant decided they wanted to run their own switch and use the existing building network for VoIP only which is on a dedicated VLAN.  I was thinking about creating an access port on the 2950 and setting it to the VoIP VLAN as I do not want to give them a trunk port.  The client can take this link and connect to their switch.  So far does not seem to be an issue.  Now what happens if the client configures spanning-tree on their switch?  I have no control over their device and cannot manage it.  Is there a way I can protect my edge switch and access port to allow them to run their own spanning tree without it interfearing with my existing MST instances? I was thinking BPDU guard but if they turn on stp and my switch sees a bpdu then the port is disabled and they lose VoIP access.  At the same time I dont want them to be able to create a loop on their switch and have it affect mine.  But since the is only a single cable from my device to theirs?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-2950s Dropping VLAN1 Connectivity

Jan 16, 2012

I have a problem where only the 2950's switches go transperant. They drop VLAN1 thus no CDP snmp packets. The users keep working fine but our NMS center keeps calling me at 3am when this happens.

These are access switches that connect to stacked 3750's. Some of the uplinks are using media converters that i have been trying to get removed. But i doubt that it could be the cause of the vlan1 going down.

Cisco WAN :: 3750 / Co-Location Rack Network?

May 20, 2012

I  am considering running stacked  3750 L3 switches as  the edge of the  network, which will connect to the  ISP. The ISP would  hand off two  lines with one to each switch and two  lines to each client  zone. Does running HSRP, running  port channels,  or running routing protocols seem like the  best option  for redundancy?

Lastly,   will the 3750 provide all the QoS I should  need for restricting each   client zone's bandwidth both up and down?  Could I get away with a  lower  model and still get these features?

2509-RJ Remote Access To Home Rack

Dec 20, 2010

I have the 2509-RJ Access Server installed and am able to access it via telnet within my home network. However, when I try to access it remotely, it fails each time I try. I set up a domain through dyndns.org specifically for the rack, the same thing I use for RDP to access my home computer remotely. RDP uses port 3389, which I opened up in the firewall and directed that port to my computer's internet IP. I tried opening up port 23 for telnet acccess to the IP address of the access server, 192.168.1.150. I believe the problem is with the dyndns.org domain I set up. The one I use for RDP has my public IP address attached to it. I tried doing the same thing for port 23 and routing that to the access server and it fails.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 - Nexus 7009 Rack Concerns

Mar 5, 2013

I wanted to know if any has the Nexus 7009 chassis installed into a 600 wide rack with the sides fitted and if they are experiencing heat issues?

My client will be replacing their aging 6509 chassis with 7009 devices, but the physicals dont tally with the install guidelines for the 7009 series chassis.  The current install of the 6509s does not tally with the recommended install guidelines for those either, but they have not expereienced any heat issues...

The 7009 will be fitted with 2xSUP2E, 3x48portSFP-F2E cards and 2x10GSFP-M2 cards with 2x6K PSUs.  I am genuinely concerned they may cook these devices, but space restrictions look like vetoing the upgrade to 800 wide racks.  Likewise moving to 7010 chassis may prove tricky due to existing other installs within the racks limiting vertical space.

SG300-10MP / Fiber From Home Office Switch To Equipment Rack?

Nov 10, 2011

I just installed a 10 port Cisco SG300-10MP in my office, 9 of the ports are already in use. Connected to it are

PC
Laptop
Notebook
WIFI AP
B&W laser printer
Color inkjet printer
IP camera
Squeezebox SB3

Cat5e connection to basement HP 1810G-24 switch All of these devices are connected via a single Cat5e cable that was installed when the house was built. I had to re-terminate both ends of it when I moved in because the existing terminations were done very poorly. I have no idea how or where the cable is routed, nor what the quality of this Cat5e cable is. It did pass a test using my cable tester.

This single Cat5e is connected to my main HP switch in the basement equipment rack. Both of these switches have mini-GBIC ports that can utilize SFP transceivers and fiber. I priced out 2 MGBSX1 compatible modules along with a 30M multimode fiber patch 'cable' online at under $150. Although it would require at least a couple hours of work (including digging around in the attic and crawl space and drilling some holes), but running the fiber to the basement is very doable.

My question to my far more experienced forum members is if the performance gains would be worth the effort?My server is in the basement, and despite having an Intel GB NIC in my PC I am seeing read speeds of ~23MBs and writes of ~49MBs to/from my it. My server has teamed GB NICs (802.3ad LACP Layer 2) connected to trunked (LACP) ports on my HP switch.

Cisco WAN :: To Setup QOS On 3560s

May 27, 2013

I am replacing some WAN connections: Point to Point T1's (running from 2820's to a 7200).  I am replacing them with metro Ethernet connections with a 3560 layer 3 switch at each end.  We run Cisco Call Manager, and have IP phones at our locations.  I want to set up QOS on my WAN connection to make sure my packets arrive in the correct order.  I have a few remote users complaining of voice problems, crackling, etc.  The 3560's are acting as routers, and don't directly connect to all the phones.  So I won't be using the mls/auto QOS features, I don't think.  I am trying to use service-policies and class-maps to handle qos, as I have done in the past, but I'm not finding the correct commands.  This is the QOS I currently have set up on my 7200/2820
