2509-RJ Remote Access To Home Rack

Dec 20, 2010

I have the 2509-RJ Access Server installed and am able to access it via telnet within my home network. However, when I try to access it remotely, it fails each time I try. I set up a domain through dyndns.org specifically for the rack, the same thing I use for RDP to access my home computer remotely. RDP uses port 3389, which I opened up in the firewall and directed that port to my computer's internet IP. I tried opening up port 23 for telnet acccess to the IP address of the access server, 192.168.1.150. I believe the problem is with the dyndns.org domain I set up. The one I use for RDP has my public IP address attached to it. I tried doing the same thing for port 23 and routing that to the access server and it fails.

SG300-10MP / Fiber From Home Office Switch To Equipment Rack?

Nov 10, 2011

I just installed a 10 port Cisco SG300-10MP in my office, 9 of the ports are already in use. Connected to it are

PC
Laptop
Notebook
WIFI AP
B&W laser printer
Color inkjet printer
IP camera
Squeezebox SB3

Cat5e connection to basement HP 1810G-24 switch All of these devices are connected via a single Cat5e cable that was installed when the house was built. I had to re-terminate both ends of it when I moved in because the existing terminations were done very poorly. I have no idea how or where the cable is routed, nor what the quality of this Cat5e cable is. It did pass a test using my cable tester.

This single Cat5e is connected to my main HP switch in the basement equipment rack. Both of these switches have mini-GBIC ports that can utilize SFP transceivers and fiber. I priced out 2 MGBSX1 compatible modules along with a 30M multimode fiber patch 'cable' online at under $150. Although it would require at least a couple hours of work (including digging around in the attic and crawl space and drilling some holes), but running the fiber to the basement is very doable.

My question to my far more experienced forum members is if the performance gains would be worth the effort?My server is in the basement, and despite having an Intel GB NIC in my PC I am seeing read speeds of ~23MBs and writes of ~49MBs to/from my it. My server has teamed GB NICs (802.3ad LACP Layer 2) connected to trunked (LACP) ports on my HP switch.

Cisco Networking :: Access Server With 2509

Jul 13, 2011

I was looking for an access server for my Cisco lab, and the 2509-2911 look great. Just a little spendy. I saw that a NM for my current routers would be a bit more.

However, I do have several servers in my rack. Is there a PCI alternative to use a Cisco octal cable to connect? Or would it be cheaper to find a 2509?

I cannot put in Transport Input,  I only have the option of doing Transport Output let me show some lines from my console:

Each church will have 4 laptops (Win 7 SP1). I need to be able to remotely access each computer from my home at various times to provide reports on usuage, and to troubleshoot any problems. The cost to purchase a program is prohibitive, as this is a non-profit venture to assist kids in need.

Home Network :: How To Connect To Remote LAN

I need to connect my home pc to my office LAN, is there a way of connecting to the LAN remotely as if the pc was locally joined to the network? I don't want to connect to a specific pc just join the network itself. When I logged into the router management I thought I would be able to just specify a remote IP address that would be allowed to connect to the LAN as if it were local but there is no obvious way of doing that. The router is an SMC.

Cisco WAN :: 3750 / Co-Location Rack Network?

I  am considering running stacked  3750 L3 switches as  the edge of the  network, which will connect to the  ISP. The ISP would  hand off two  lines with one to each switch and two  lines to each client  zone. Does running HSRP, running  port channels,  or running routing protocols seem like the  best option  for redundancy?

Lastly,   will the 3750 provide all the QoS I should  need for restricting each   client zone's bandwidth both up and down?  Could I get away with a  lower  model and still get these features?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 - Nexus 7009 Rack Concerns

Mar 5, 2013

I wanted to know if any has the Nexus 7009 chassis installed into a 600 wide rack with the sides fitted and if they are experiencing heat issues?

My client will be replacing their aging 6509 chassis with 7009 devices, but the physicals dont tally with the install guidelines for the 7009 series chassis.  The current install of the 6509s does not tally with the recommended install guidelines for those either, but they have not expereienced any heat issues...

The 7009 will be fitted with 2xSUP2E, 3x48portSFP-F2E cards and 2x10GSFP-M2 cards with 2x6K PSUs.  I am genuinely concerned they may cook these devices, but space restrictions look like vetoing the upgrade to 800 wide racks.  Likewise moving to 7010 chassis may prove tricky due to existing other installs within the racks limiting vertical space.
