I was looking for an access server for my Cisco lab, and the 2509-2911 look great. Just a little spendy. I saw that a NM for my current routers would be a bit more.
However, I do have several servers in my rack. Is there a PCI alternative to use a Cisco octal cable to connect? Or would it be cheaper to find a 2509?
I am trying to connect my Access Server to my main network via the AUI port and I am not able to ping any device..

I am having trouble trying to configure my cisco 2509 cisco router for access server. I have two guides shown below: URL and URL
However I am running into some problems. I can go through the second guide up until it asks me to do this command
Step 5: Configure the transport input protocol on the async lines to Telnet.

I cannot put in Transport Input, I only have the option of doing Transport Output let me show some lines from my console:

Im not sure whats going on. I have two routers(cisco 2600 series) plus my 2509 cisco router I am going to use for a access server. I have a two switches 2950 series and I have the access server connected to all of them via a octal cable.

I have the 2509-RJ Access Server installed and am able to access it via telnet within my home network. However, when I try to access it remotely, it fails each time I try. I set up a domain through dyndns.org specifically for the rack, the same thing I use for RDP to access my home computer remotely. RDP uses port 3389, which I opened up in the firewall and directed that port to my computer's internet IP. I tried opening up port 23 for telnet acccess to the IP address of the access server, 192.168.1.150. I believe the problem is with the dyndns.org domain I set up. The one I use for RDP has my public IP address attached to it. I tried doing the same thing for port 23 and routing that to the access server and it fails.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been using my 2509 router as an access server for my 3 routers, 1 frame-relay (3640) and 4 switches for the past 2 months and it work great till this morning. As soon as the async lights on when i try to connect, it just hangs. It doesn’t respond to anything. No key hits not even disconnecting the console to where im connecting too. (from router to router) if i reboot the router with out the cord plug in (the async) i can use the router with all functions working great; But as soon as i connect the async cord.
The lights blink and poof router is gone. No response. i just cant figure how from one day to the next it doesn’t work.I haven't tried a different cable yet but i tried disconnecting all console connection and just left the plug in and boot. This works but as soon as i connect to any console port physically it gone. No response?i cleared all my configes and its blank and it still just doesn’t respond as soon as i connect any thing (after configuring all the basic)

I got a Monoprice Networking USB 2.0 Server and it doesn't appear to be working. I hooked it to my router (Linksys E1000) and I have my usb printer hooked to the device. The driver for the printer is installed for the server. When I go to print something I get a popup saying "checking status of printer," it hangs for a minute, and then says "printer not responding." There's no indication of the server or the printer in my network. How do I get this thing working

View 12 Replies View RelatedNot sure what's going on with this thing. Unfortunately I'm 3 hours away from where it's installed. We put it in place about 3 months ago. It's set to use failover and load balancing. When I installed it I tested the failover and load balancing and everything worked as it should. The past 2 weeks the unit has not been failing over when one ISP drops. This requires a power cycle of unit to get the secondary on X2 to pick up. Data collection is turned off. Probing is turned on for both WAN ports. While both ISP's are up it load balances fine. I was there last week and pulled the patch cables going to the modems and it didn't skip a beat doing a constant ping. Just randomly it takes a shit when one ISP goes down. Takes out the network as well as no internal resources are reachable as well. Can't ping the server from any PC's and such.
It's running an older firmware. 5.5.6 from Nov 2011. 5.8 is currently available. I'm just leery about flashing a new firmware remotely.
Anything like this before with these units? We have plenty of 170's and 180's in place that are trouble free.
- I just need internet in all 15 PCs - I do not want them to be connected with any sever locally or in network but my demand is internet on all system with good speed.

They are each in a different state, and each have an external IP. I just need to do some processing on the Ubuntu server, then write the file either to its own drive, and have the web server (Windows) read it, or, have it write to the Windows HDD, and have Windows read it.

Westell DSL Modem > Belkin Router (consumer crap) > Dell Powerconnect 2816 > server > workstations
I used the wizards on SBS to configure the internet, add the users, connect the computers, etc.
We are having intermittent internet problems. The only problem in the server SYSTEM eventlog is "Cannot connect to DNS server". At first I thought it was a server DNS issue so I changed the maxcacheTTL to 3 days. However, I noticed that I couldn't get into the Belkin configuration so I had to manually reset the router and everything worked fine. One thing to note is that the SBS server is handling DHCP and DNS, and in the router configuration there isn't an option to not use an alternate config or the ISP. Could this be causing the problem?
I don't do this as my day job, so I need some good fixes or things to look for. The fix right now is to power cycle the router.

For some reason; one the access point keep losing the default gateway address. Or it could be all three access point could be losing the default address. I turn off the router and pull the power from all the access point. Then turn the router on and plug the power back into the access point. The default address is back and network working great. I try to find out why the default address keeps missing from the access point. The router is new.

So to trim it down the problem basically is my phone/ps3/psp cannot find my access point AND my pc doesnt work when connected through the wireless router.
I have a situation here where the company is rapidly expanding through acquisition. They are essentially a holding company and own several smaller entities. However most IT is consolidated as new entities are brought in and run out of Headquarters because the Board of Directors/Executive Mgt do not see IT as important and so the budget is extremely limited.
They have approximately 200 remote users at any given time, but they all work for these smaller entities. Currently each location has its own Dedicated Internet Access and VPN appliance (Netgear ProSafe, Cisco ASA 5510, I know of one entity that is just port forwarding to each workstation for RDP ).
They would like to route all traffic back through Corporate so they can consolidate this VPN mess and quit paying for all different kinds of licensing, and also stop paying for dedicated internet access for each location and just use the MPLS and have all traffic inbound/outbound run out of the corporate office.
The only issue is they dont want users to be able to access network resources at other organizations.
Like I said earlier the Board of Directors/Executive Mgt do not see IT as important and so the budget is extremely limited; so if there is an OpenSource option available that would be best. Also the IT dept there is 3 people (IT Manager (IBM AS400 guy), two Helpdesk guys (no certs, HS GED)) So the knowledge resources are limited as well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a very basic version of XP on my old laptop (Gateway MT3707).After hours of searching for the correct drivers, I found them, and installed them. After installing the correct drivers for wireless internet I was able to pull up the list and find my network on it.When double clicking on our wireless network it asks for a network key (also called WEP key or WPA key).Now we have a password for our network, but after an exhausting amount of tries that won't work. I not sure if that is what its looking for. In our apartment we run mac OSX, windows vista, etc., but usually the password for the network is satisfactory. I have never ran into this problem.I hate to be a noob, but I don't know where to go from here.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHaving some serious problems on the networking front here at home. I have 3 PC's and 2 Xbox's that run constantly. Our Internet bandwidth is Insight's 50.0 which is 50Mb download speed 5Mb upload speed. The problem we're having is this. Ever since we upgraded from dual 20Mb lines on a Cisco RV042 to a 50Mb on a DIR-655 we've been having latency issues. I have everything turned off in the router. It's basically there to give out IP numbers and thats it. All security is handled from the PC's themselves. Bandwidth tests are fine, I sustain download speeds above 7MB/s using download managers. But pings are terrible. Xbox live is terrible, PC online gaming is terrible. Pingtest.com is terrible. Only when behind routers. I've tried it behind 3 seperate routers. The DIR-655, the Belkin f5d8236 that insight provided me, and the cisco rv042 originally used for dual wan routing. all of which are met with serious failure.
If I plug directly in to the modem pings are fine. Add a router and pings go to shit.
i used the vpn over the weekend to access my comp. and now i can't access the server at my office come Monday . . . my internet works fine, when i ping the ip addy it "timed out" when i run a tracert it shows me step1 step2 vpn addy and at step3 "* * *" symbols and stops there for 30 lines/"hops" same thing . . . i tried accessing the router via web after ipconfig/using the default gateway as the ip for the router but it won't let me saying firewall or proxy setting is there . . . i went to internet options and turned off the proxy setting and same thing, can't access the router via web . . . i've checked the firewall settings for the windows and it's been "off" . . .

What are the requirements for good remoting services and which server OS would provide at least adequate remoting services. That is being remoting that provides concurrent use, speed where things do not load slowly and perhaps ease of use, so users can access files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run a web server behind a D-Link DIR-655 (Rev B). I have port 80 opened and forwarded to my servers IP and a domain pointed at my external IP. I can access the server without issue using the domain or external IP from outside of my network, but I can only access it via the internal IP from inside my network. Using the domain or the external IP just gives me a timeout error. I had a Linksys router previously and didn't face this issue.
