Cisco Switches :: Cannot Get PC To Connect To SF100

Oct 16, 2011

I recently purchased a SF 100D  5 port switch. I currently have a New dell PC connected through a wall jack to an existing router, and wanted to add an ethernet printer.  When I connect everything to the switch, I can only get a link light on the printer (Not the PC or router).  I did connect to the router with a tempory cable across the room, and did get a link light, but it will not work through the wall jack, which the PC does connect to the existing router through the wall jack.  Also, I cannot get the PC to connect to the SF100, I tried using the same cable, that did work on the printer.

Cisco Switches :: 2960g Better Way To Connect All These Switches

Oct 23, 2011

I have 3 2960g switches that each have about 40 devices (pc's, printers, etc..) attached to them.  Each of these 2960 switches has one port connected to a port on a  "core" switch, which is a 3950g.  The 3950 has 3 switches and all of our servers (12) conected to it's ports.  The network seems to be running alright, however most, if not all, of the port lights on ALL switches blink wildly(at least I consider it "wildly").  Am I doing this wrong?  Is there a better way to connect all these switches? Also, this configuration is for our first floor.  The second floor has the exact same configuration, and the two 3950's (one upstairs, one downstairs) arec connected via fiber.

Cisco Switches :: ESW-520-24p Not Able To Connect To Catalyst 3560G

Sep 27, 2010

a customer purchased a ESW-520-24p to be used in a VoIP project. Today we had difficulties connecting it to a Catalyst 3650G switch; We've tried setting the port to trunk, general, customer and access and changed all sorts of VLAN settings on the 3560G switch to no avail: the switches just wont interconnect. While sniffing we saw that ARP requests are even not answered, so something is wrong on a low level, probably with VLAN-ing.if these switches should be able to be interconnected and if yes, what needs to be done to do so?

Secondly; voice will be on seperate VLAN and the client will use SPA942 phones, which have an internal switch that allows to connect a PC to it. I've used this phoned successfully with Catalyst Express switches and I didn't have to do anything for VLAN-ing, this worked "out of the box". Can these phones work with the Small Business switches as well?

Cisco Switches :: SG200-50 Could Not Connect After UPS Failure

Jan 9, 2013

I have an issue with the Cisco SG200-50p and almost all of the POE ports on the switch.

We had an issue with the UPS in the server rack yesterday where the UPS failed and turned off all power to the equipment in the rack. It is possible that something was blown in the UPS itself. I was able to reroute power to all devices but the only one that seems to have an issue is the SG200-50p switch. After the power was restored the unit refuses to acknowledge all the IP phones plugged into the POE ports. Running a copper test via the web interface on the majority of the POE ports are listed as Operational Status: Down.

I have tested the affected ports with Laptops, other switches, and simple loop test to verify that the port operational status after a coper test goes back to 'Up' when any of these devices are connected to the those ports. However it fails to recognize when one of the IP phones are connected at all. There are not even any lights on the device for those ports and the status is listed as 'Down' when I plug in any of the IP phones. The IP phone is a Linksys IP Phone SPA922. I know the phones are good because when I connect them through another POE switch they come on and function properly.

Routers / Switches :: How To Connect To VPN Using DynDNS

Nov 30, 2011

I recently moved out of state and have been working remotely. I just got a new internet provider who will not let me connect to my office VPN without a small business account which is ridiculous. I've been reading up on how to work around this and haven't been able to figure anything out. I've signed up for a dynDNS account but the truth is I have zero experience with this and don't know what I'm doing - most of the stuff I'm reading is a foreign language to me. I can log into my router and change settings and I can get VPN info from my tech person and work so I just need to know what to do. I can't really work effectively without access to my network but I refuse to pay for a small business account

Switches :: Can't Connect Internet Through Router

Sep 3, 2011

When I moved in with my new husband, we kept his internet provider, but I wanted to use my new wireless router with his modem. I can connect to the internet straight from the modem on both our PC and my laptop, and can connect to the wireless router (excellent strength). When I connect the modem to the router, however, the internet connection is lost. For some reason (I never had this issue with my old modem) I can not get the two to communicate with each other. I have tried resetting my router to factory default, and shutting everything down and going through the manuals step by step. I can not get the USB connection to work with the modem (driver won't install/can't be found on the disk) and both the modem and my laptop only have one connecting port for the Ethernet cable, so currently I can't connect the router to the modem and my modem to the computer at the same time.

Cisco Switches :: Connect 2 SG200-26 Using Two Separate VLans

Jul 21, 2012

I have two cabinets in a datacenter with four available cross connect cables.  I would like to set up two LAGs between the two switches each of which will carry one vlan across to the other.   My default vlan contains all of my servers on it (10.0.0.0/8), and my backup vlan (192.168.200.0/24) will only be used for iscsi traffic and data backups.  At the moment, I have one cable connecting the two switches and it works fine for the default vlan.  When I add in a second cable and set it to vlan 200, no matter what settings I try it just doesn't pass traffic. I've made several attempts to get the second connection working, tagged, untagged, trunk, access, etc.

Cisco WAN :: 2960G - SFPs - Unable To Connect 2 Switches

Apr 10, 2013

Trying to connect 2 switches together (both 2960G 8 ports). I have an SFP in each (GLC-LH-SM). They are connecting over SingleMode Fibre using the correct cabling. The fibre cores have been tested and are all ok also.

I can't get no Layer 1 connectivitiy at all. Just dead. I have tried 4 different GBICS, swapped cabled etc.. I have forced the media type to use SFP. No link light....

I thought it would just be a case of plugging in the gbics cables and off I go! I read about forcing the speed and duplex on the port but because the port if SFP, the speed and duplex settings are not available. This seems to be hard coded.

Cisco WAN :: 2960s - How To Connect Via Diverse Fiber To Both Switches

Mar 2, 2012

We have a stack of 2960S, and have a new client that wants to connect via diverse fibre to both switches(From 2 switches on there side). We currently run MST and client is (currently) running PVRST. The 2 links will be trunks (With the same ~5 vlans running over both)

Our "standard" trunk config is:

switchport trunk allowed vlan 228,229,265-268
switchport mode trunk
mls qos trust dscp
storm-control broadcast level 20.00
storm-control action trap
no cdp enable
spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
spanning-tree guard root

So after recommendations on what is needed to avoid L2 loop, and to ensure we force one trunk port to be the "primary" for those vlans, and the the other trunk port to be "backup"?
