Cisco Switching/Routing :: Duplex Mode On HSRP Routed Port On 3750

Nov 15, 2012

What should the duplex mode to be set on a routed port gi0/21 that are running HSRP ? I try setting the gi0/21 to full, but it caused the port to be down. The only way for the port to be up is setting it to half duplex.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 - In Auto Negotiation Mode It Comes Up In Half Duplex

Jun 11, 2012

We are facing to an annoying issue. We have a 6509 running in Catos 8.3(4) with WS-X6548-GE-TX, WS-X6348-RJ-45 and WS-X6148-RJ-45. When we configure the mode in auto negotiation, it comes up in half duplex. We need to configure the speed mode at 100Mbit/Full to make it work. But if the chassis or port restarts (not the server), the link becomes half duplex. This happens only on module in Gigabyte like WS-X6548-GE-TX.

Cable have been replaced but does not work. It is not happened on another chassis running on IOS 12.2(18)SXF17b with WS-X6548-GE-TX.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750-X OOB Management With IP Base And Routed Access Layer

Aug 14, 2012

I've got a bunch of 3750-X switches all running IP Base and acting as a routed access layer. They run OSPF in a totally stubby area with the distribution layer (Nexus 7K) as the ABR. We also have a physically separate management network into which the fa0 management interface of the 3750-X is connected. The management network itself runs OSPF and has multiple subnets and external access.

On the 3750-X, I'd ideally like to be able to run some sort of separate OSPF process for the management network or at the very least have a static default route for management traffic pointing out the fa0 interface, but clearly not have it interfere with the main default route for data traffic coming from the N7K ABR. Normally I'd just create a management VRF, sling the fa0 interface into it and run a separate OSPF process in that VRF. The problem is you can't create VRFs in IP Base! Surely there must be a way to do this? Cisco don't really expect customers to upgrade to IP Services just to have a working OOB Management network, do they?!

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X - Using 10 / Duplex Half On Gigabit Port Not Working?

Sep 24, 2012

The new switch is a 3560X with all Gigabit ports, but the security device's port, also configured with speed 10 and duplex half, does not connect properly.As a temporary test, we daisychained another switch that has FastEthernet ports, and the security device works again.Is there anything else that needs to be added to the configuration, when using Gigabit ports at 10/half?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7000 / 3750 Stack - HSRP Between ISPs Router And L3 Switch

Dec 27, 2012

We have our WAN setup as explained in the attachment herewith. As of now, We have a IP 1 configured as HSRP IP in the LAN switch end at Site A and Site B. As per the HSRP priority, Site A's WAN router will preempt to be the Active WAN router. 1*1Gig link at both DCs connect to the respectve WAN router.

But with this setup, we experience a WAN outage whenever there is a link disconect at Site A - as HSRP fails over from Active to Standby(Site B) and again when the link at Site gets restored. To avoid this :

Is it possible to have the HSRP configured over a port channel at Site A and B (or atleast at Site A) ? In that case, will there be a need for the ISP to change their configuration except to configure a port channel ? The ISP has Cisco 7000 series router which connects to 3750 stack at DC lan.

The port is generating lot of giants and after a while it also distrubs other routes ( Port1 to Port 16), configured with Vlan11 and port 22 as routed port.I have checked the routed port through wireshark the maximum frame size is 1514 and configured the MTU to 1514, giants are not showing any more but after 10 to 12 hours switch gets hang. Either to shut the port or to reload the switch to get switch and other layer routes to be normal.

I have checked speed and duplex settings same as E1 converter. Full duplex. 100 Speed. Why switch is not behaving normal. If I shutdown the routed port it is normal.

Cisco WAN :: 6509 Fwsm Multiple Subnets Routed On One Port From 3750

Dec 20, 2010

We have a 6509 that was connected to 2 other locations(location A and B) and our local lan (location MAIN).  We wanted to move the location A and B to a 3750 switch and only allow the traffic that needed to access our location MAIN to come through the firewall.  The only problem I ran into is that before location A and B were on different interfaces so in the 6509 firewall the routes for traffic to our MAIN location was done by static routes.

I.E.
static (MAIN_intf,A_intf) 192.1.1.72 10.94.10.72 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0
static (MAIN_intf,B_intf) 192.2.2.72 10.94.10.72 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

[Code]....

because it has a static overlap, which makes sense to me, but my question is how do I configure the network to get this to work?  Do I have to reconfigure my network and access-list?  Do I need to add more ports between the 6509 and 3750?  I'm not sure if this is the best way to do what we want. If something is not clear I'll try my best to explain the setup, but I just took over for our I.T. guy when he left.

I put 10.10.10.72 instead I should have put 10.94.10.72. the routed port is on a different subnet than the computer I'm trying to access.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Replacing 3750 24 Port With 3750 48 Port?

May 21, 2012

We have a stack of switches that is at the max number of members allowed in the stack. Problem is we are running out of port density and need to add more ports. So instead of adding a whole new stack I would rather replace 2 of the 24-port swicthes with 48-port switches.

If the two 24-port swicthes we are removing are stack members and neither of them are the stack master, I should be able to replace the 24-port switches with the 48-port switches without bringing the master offline? If the new 48-port switches are running the same IOS version as the current 24-port swicthes, they should add themselves to the stack?Would I have to tell the new 48-port swicthes what switch numbers they are replacing in order for them to be added to the stack since we are at the max number of members?Also since the 48-port swicthes are replacing 24-port switches will the master give the 48-port switches the configuration for only the 24-ports?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 5520 Configure Traffic Flow Between Computers Inside VLANs And Routed Port

Jul 7, 2012

How to configure traffic flow between  computers inside VLANs and a routed port? Here is the setup details:

1. Switch 3750-X
2. VLAN 100 - ( SVI IP address 192.168.100.1 /24)
3. VLAN 200 - ( SVI IP address 192.168.200.1 /24)
4. routed port gi1/0/48 (IP address 192.168.150.1 /24). Note: this port is directly connected to a firewall ASA 5520 port IP 192.168.150.100 /24

Ip routing is enabled on the switch and inter vlan traffic is flowing ok. I can ping the routed port gi1/0/48 from  any computer connected in the VLAN 100 or 200. For example computer with IP 192.168.100.25 can ping the routed port 192.168.150.1. Switch can ping firewall port 192.168.150.100 and the 'sh ip route' command shows the network 192.168.150.0 /24 as directly connected network.

any computer in the two VLANs CANNOT ping firewall ASA port 192.168.150.100   Is it because inter VLAN routing does not work with a routed port on L3 switch? I looked up fallback bridging, but it is meant for non IP traffic.The goal is I am trying to set the ASA port as an internet gateway for VLANs.

Cisco Switching :: 3750 - IP / VLAN Planning For Routed Access Design?

Sep 10, 2012

We are currently designing a complete Layer 3 to the edge solution for our customers. The network design is a combination of a collapsed core (Core to access) as well as a three layer model (Core/Distro/Access) for connectivity to the Data Centre, Internet and Wireless Blocks.

The core of the network contains two 6509E switches interconnected on a Layer 3 Port channel (no VSS). Access Layer switches (3750 Stacks) connect to the core switches over p2p routed links (Collapsed core part of the design). Distribution layer switches provide connectivity to the Data centre, Internet and Wireless Blocks.(three layer model.

All IP addressing is being planned for assignment from the private RFC 1918 address block(10.0.0.0/8) for both Infrastructure and Access layer VLANs for users.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - ASA Multiple Context Mode

Nov 16, 2011

Im looking for some clarification regarding running a Cisco ASA in transparent mode with multiple contexts.  To give you an insight into the network design we have the following -

Collapsed Core/Aggregation Layer running Cisco 3750s.  The 2 Cisco 3750s are using SVIs with HSRP for default gateways per customer with a total of 8 customers.  Each customer is segregated into seperate VLANs with Cisco 2960 switches used in the Access layer.  Each customer has 2 Cisco 2960 switches with redundant uplinks to the Core/Aggregation layer.  Customers are spanning tree loadbalanced between core/aggregation switches.

What i need to now do is add two transparent firewalls into the mix in either an active/active or active/standby setup.  I need the firewalls to support all 8 customers,  therefore I am guessing they need to run in multiple context mode.  Having read into this it has left me somewhat confused as to how to integrate them into the above setup as a bump in the wire so to speak.
