Nov 15, 2012What should the duplex mode to be set on a routed port gi0/21 that are running HSRP ? I try setting the gi0/21 to full, but it caused the port to be down. The only way for the port to be up is setting it to half duplex.

Sep 24, 2012We recently upgraded the switch to which an old security device was connected. It worked fine on the old switch's FastEthernet port, which was configured for speed 10 and duplex half, as that is what the device required. The new switch is a 3560X with all Gigabit ports, but the security device's port, also configured with speed 10 and duplex half, does not connect properly.As a temporary test, we daisychained another switch that has FastEthernet ports, and the security device works again.Is there anything else that needs to be added to the configuration, when using Gigabit ports at 10/half?

May 22, 2013I am having an issue where MAC addresses from my user PC's are registering on different ports than the ones they are plugged in to. I have my PC's plugged in to my Cisco phones (most of which are 7941's), and then patched back to my switch, (4507 or 4006). The issue is that a user will be working fine, they will have both their PC and Phone MAC's registered on the correct prot and then with out intervention the PC MAC addresses will register itself with another physical port and the user will pull a 169.x.x.x address and have not access to the network. This is happening to multiple users all of which are hardwired. Port security is configured to allow 3 MAC's, obviously if I change that to 2 it will not allow an incorrect MAC's to register with that port, but I would like to know why this is happening. Both the 4507 and 4006 have been up for 1 year and 33 weeks. The fix has been to find out where their MAC has registered it self, unplugg that PC from the phone, and let the port security aging time (2min) clear all MAC's from the port.

Nov 17, 2011I will be start with the disclaimer that I am very technical, but a huge novice to the enterprise-grade Cisco swtiches.
How IOS software versions are licensed on a Catalyst 4507 switch? I am very confused at this point.
For example, if I buy IOS Enterprise Services for a new Catalyst 4507 switch, what form does the software license take? Is the license embedded on the switch? Does it come as an e-mail or certificate with a PAK? Does it come on a CD?
We sold a 4507 with Enterprise Services to a client, and they are saying they don't have the right IOS version installed. I assumed there must be some license key they needed, but the Cisco licensing help desk does not seem to indicate there are any licenesable items on our sales order number (even though IOS Enterprise Services is a line item on the sales order).
I know there was a disk that came with the switch with an Enterprise Services .BIN file on it, but I had assumed that was just a software version image, similar to the images I can download off the Cisco website. But is this actually the license key?
Since I can download image files off the Cisco website, I assumed there must be some other key needed to activate the license.

Jun 4, 2012I was upgrading IOS on 4507 R with dual supervisor.I download the IOS on Active supervisior and did reboot.After reboot i login to switch then i got switch standby prompt.I found that after reboot active supervisior became standby supervisior.
Now new IOS is on standby supervisior.Need to confirm below..So this means that IOS does not syn within the supervisiors as compared to config right ?
-Which command i can use that will copy IOS from standby supe to Active supe??
-Which command i can use that will show both active and standby supe with new IOS?
-Is there any command that i can use to switchover from active to standby supe??
Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4507 Passing A Trunk Through An Access Mode Port
Mar 15, 2012we have a scenario that consists of a Cisco 4507 series core switch with more than 20 vlans which is connected to a C2960G switch( in a nearby building) using a trunk by a fiber connection. Up to this point everyhting is fine . VTP domain is configured on the core switch and we have all of the 20 vlans present correctly on the edge 2960G wich is part of course of this same VTP domain.the fiber connection goes from core switch to a "in the middle location" where we have a fiber patch panel that is connected in a jumper style to another fiber patch panel going to the destination building where the C2960G sits.
Now imagine that Fiber connection from this middle location to the destination C2960 edge switch is down for any possible reason meanwhile the fiber connection from Core switch 4507 to the middle location is still intact.In the same time, in this middle location , we do have a wireless connection which links 1 Cisco 3750G switche ( a different infrastructure and different VTP domain) to another C3560G switch which sits on the same Room in the nearby destination building where we have the edge C2960G, An idea came to me is to connect one of the fiber port (core) in the intact fiber patch panel coming from Core switch 4507 TO an access vlan configured switchport in the 3750G switch ( this switchport will belong to a vlan designed only to trasmit the vlans on the trunk coming from 4507 core switch say VLAN 10) then connect one VLAN 10 access switchport to the destination C2960 edge switch ( the switchport on the c2960G is still a trunk)Will this solution work and all of the 20- 4507 core switch vlans arrive to the destination C2960G ? Or we do need something that tags the 2 VLAN 10 switchports like switchport dot1q tunnel like QinQ

Jun 28, 2012We have a customer that has a fiber rum between 2 building. They want to have 2 seperate fibers active that terminate into the same switch on each end. (redundancy).
In building A they have an extreme networks black diamond switch that does not support STP.In bulding B they have a Cisco 4507.
We will ahve to use a layer 3 routed connection due to the fact their switch in building A does not support STP.Our tech does not want to use static route becuase he does not want to setup IP SLA for the redundant connection.
Will RIPv2 work for this scenario and failover to the other fiber if needed? The hop count is the same for each fiber path..

May 8, 2012On the supervisor card of a cisco 6500 series, according to the following link, [URL] it only has 2 uplink ports on the card. Would I be correct in assuming that I only have those to ports that I can configure IP addresses on?
The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp

Jun 5, 2013I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.

Jun 4, 2013I have C3750X with C3KX-NM-10G, and have-T SFP in slot 3 ( means it is not in SFP+ slot ).I need to set speed&duplex hard to 100/Full, but if I do the link goes down. I have the same settings on the other side, only IOS version is different.I tried other speeds - 10 and 1000, but no one works with Full. When I change duplex to Auto it works fine.The reason why I am doing this on C3KX-NM-10G is because I need to use NetFlow and cannot use the chassis' copper port. At the moment the ports are connected through a copper patch cord, but in full production there will be a radio link in between that requires 100M/Full to be set hard.I am trying to search for any document that would describe this limitation, but cannot find any. Also port capabilities do not indicate duplex could not be set to full:

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 Cannot Seem To Correct A Duplex Mismatch
May 14, 2012I cannot seem to correct a duplex mismatch issue.I have a Cisco 2950 switch connected to a Cisco 2621 router. I am running a per-interface Vlan. I have two fastethernet ports and one NM-1E card installed on the router. One fastethernet port is connected to my gateway router, the second fastethernet port is connected to my switch for one Vlan. The NM-1E Ethernet card is being used for the second Vlan which consists of nine IP cameras. Though the cameras on the Vlan are working fine.Now, the NM-1E card is set to half-duplex. I know that I should be using a fastethernet module like a 1FE 2W or a 2FE 2W card, (which I have,) but the router does not recogonize either one of these cards when they are installed, and yes, they have been confirmed as good cards.
Using Router-on-a-Stick configuration is out due to the bandwidth contention besides the fact that the router I am using it on will not handle this due to the flash being an older version.I have forced the switchport to half duplex, setting the speed to 10. I was getting fewer error messages at first, but they soon increased back to the frequency that they began with.I have set the switchport to duplex auto, but this failed to resolve the issue.Obviously, I cannot force the switchport into duplex full since the NM-1E interface is set to half duplex. Can the NM-1E card be configured to full duplex? I can't seem to find any documentation showing where it can be forced to full duplex mode.Could nine IP cameras just be too much for both the router and switch to handle?
Cisco Switching/Routing :: Duplex Mismatch Between 2950 And 4503
Jul 8, 2012I have a 4503 switch (in L2 mode) running 12.1 hooked into a C2950 running 12.1, using regular 4 pair Cat5e cables to connect between them. The 4503 has Gigabit port 2/1 trunking to the 2950's Fa port 0/13.
When I set the duplex mode to DUPLEX FULL and SPEED to SPEED 100 on both switches (for their trunk ports) the link fails, and my 4503 loses connectivity (since it gets it from the 2950).
Here is my config from the switches (per description):

Note, this is the only mode that works (which seems to work fine, but I get TERRIBLE throughput for anything that goes over the 2950.

May 25, 20121 week ago, I got a call from a client that reported a network outage, the client told me that, 3 switch has crashed he try to console but it just hang. I ask him, did you change something? he said he didn't change anything, he just pluged a nortelswitch to the cisco switch number 9, but that switch doesn't crash like the others (3,4,8). I check the uptime, and yes the switch never been powered off..

the vlan is end to end vlan, so vlan span between all those switches. transparant. this is collapsed topology, core and distribution is the 6500 itself all of the 1-9 access switch are in the same rack, with no loopguard, and bpdu guard configured. and connected to the core using etherchannel. the problem is there is no log available to start the troubleshooting/investigation.

Jan 21, 2010I have the following issue; I am getting a duplex mismatch between a Cisco 2960 TT-L Switch running IOS 12.2(35) LAN Base Image (Gig0/1) and a Cisco 6506 Switch running IOS 12.2(33)SXH Adv IP Services (Gig2/19).
I have tried several combinations of the duplex/speed settings on both sides but the only that works is setting duplex/speed AUTO on the Cisco 2960 which ends up autonegotiating to HALF duplex and 100Mbps.

Jun 11, 2012We are facing to an annoying issue. We have a 6509 running in Catos 8.3(4) with WS-X6548-GE-TX, WS-X6348-RJ-45 and WS-X6148-RJ-45. When we configure the mode in auto negotiation, it comes up in half duplex. We need to configure the speed mode at 100Mbit/Full to make it work. But if the chassis or port restarts (not the server), the link becomes half duplex. This happens only on module in Gigabyte like WS-X6548-GE-TX.
Cable have been replaced but does not work. It is not happened on another chassis running on IOS 12.2(18)SXF17b with WS-X6548-GE-TX.
