Cisco Switching/Routing :: Using Built-in Switch On 1801W Router?

I have a Cisco 1801W router, running a DSL connection with wireless connectivity for a school. This is configured on the fastEthernet0 interface on the 192.168.1.0 network (the router is 192.168.1.1).
 
I was wondering if it is possible to get the built-in switch (fastEthernet 1-8 interfaces) to be used as a part of the same network (192.168.1.0/24).
 
Fastethernet0 is connected to the school's main switch (24 port), but we could use a few more ports. I'd love to use the 8 ports on the router.

I have a 2610 router. How can I tell if the built-in ethernet port is only a 10BASE-T or if it's a 10/100 port?  Is there a "Show" command to give me this information or did it only come one way?  I have found conflicting information on this :-(  If it's only 10BASE-T, can I upgrade it to 10/100?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G Input And Crc Errors Only On Built In Ports?

I have an odd situation where I cannot get a device connected to a built in switchport with out input and crc errors.  When connecting to a GLC-T sfp it works fine.Here is my test layout
 
Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 3560G port 48.  (input and crc errors)
 
When I do this there are input and crc errors on the switch port.  This has been confirmed on three different switches and three different outdoor AP's.  We though at first it was the injector, but when we run the same setup, but instead connect the device to port 49 with a GLC-T sfp there are no errors.
 
Outdoor wireless AP --- 10' of cat6 cable --- Gigabit POE injector --- 10' Cat6 cable --- 3560G port 49 (GLC-T).  (No errors)
 
I have upgraded the 3560G to the latest ios and still it has the same problem.  If I run the same setup to a 2960 there are no errors at all.

I have also tried manually setting the speed on the 3560G with no success.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Any Function Built In Nexus 5010 To Detect Intermittent Link Down

I found intermittent link down(20~40 seconds average) occurred about 1~10 times every month. SAP reported a lot of active connections are disconnected and I used a batch to ping and found "requested time out" about 30 seconds.And Windows, SQL server, Nexus 5010 do not show any errors. We run cluster and cluster does not fail over.And I don't know which cables or nics cause this issue. When it happened, almost all servers are unreachable. For example, SQL server 1 -> SQL server 2, IBM HS22-1 -> SQL server 1. However, some connections are not dropped sometimes. It varies each time.PS: I run this topology last year without any problems but it started intermittent link down from 2011/1/7. Because there is no errors in Nexus 5010, it is difficult to troubleshoot. Cisco TAC recommended us to implement virtual port channel yesterday. Could I use "errdisable detect cause" to detect what caused the intermittent link down? Is there any error logs or switch parameters/status can use to troubleshoot?

Cisco WAN :: Adding 2nd DSL WAN To 1801w?

I have an 1801w connected to ATT/Bellsouth FastAccess via its DSL port. The LAN connection is through FastEthernet1 trunked to an Extreme Networks Summit 450e. My 1801w configuration is attached and everything is working great.
 
My problem: DSL bandwidth is unfortunately limited to 3mbps/384kpbs in my area, so I'm considering adding a second DSL line and aggregating bandwidth (load balancing) between two.
 
1) Can this be acheived using the 1801w, perhaps by adding an external modem for the second DSL connection feeding the 1801's FastEthernet0 port?
 
2) If yes, then might anyone have a specific modem recommendation? If no, then what other equipment would I need?
 
3) Most importantly, what 1801 configurations changes required? (I expect my goal would be to equally share the WAN links between all connected VLANs/networks, but if necessary I suppose a workable alternative might be to dedicate a new VLAN/network (e.g., "office") to the new WAN link.

I have an environment of 3 X 3560G of which I have 1st switch-CORE(f0/10) connecting to the VPN router(CE) interface-f0/0. Remaining 2 Cisco 3560's(Access) are connected to Gi0/1 and Gi0/2 on the 1st switch-CORE via gi0/1 . On all three switches I have created multiple VLANs and assigned ports to these VLAN. The switch to switch connection is trunk allowing all VLANs created on all these 3 switches. Now the issue is how I am going to have all these VLANs routed through single interface on the routeri-e f0/0, as all these subnets will communicating to remote site over VPN. What should be default gateway on the 2 Access switches and the CORE switch, also what static route should be on router to reach all subnets(VLANs) created on these 3 switches.
 
I have read inter-VLAN routing i-e creating sub interfaces on router but dont want to proceed with that and looking for any other way to have my VLANs talk on all three switches and then are accessible to remote site ove VPN?

Cisco Wireless :: 1801W - Unable To Find Details Of Configuration?

I've just received a Cisco 1801W router (pre-owned), which I'm going to be installing in our school, and I have been unable to figure out the details of the wireless configuration.The 1801W router is replacing an old basic Linksys WAP54G router. I'm hoping to configure the 1801 for basic DSL, with the WiFi configured with a single SSID, using WPA-PSK authentication with a hard-coded pre-shared key on the router. We do not have a radius server available at the school.
 
I think I have the router set up properly for DSL with NAT and DHCP for the internal network (192.168.1.x).  The router's E0 interface uses 192.168.1.1, and the dialer0 interface will receive an IP from the service provider (ISP).  The only thing I'm missing is the wireless configuration part.

I've created a scenario using a 3750 cisco as core switch ad other 6 switch model 2900 in access level.my problem is this, the router is not a cisco router, and this router is not able to make NAT on more than one subnet.Into the core switch I've created 4 VLAN and I must to give internet access to 3 of them, 192.168.0.0/24 (vlan1), 172.16.0.0/24 (vlan2), 172.17.0.0/24 (vlan3).I've connected the switch to router via  gigabit ethernet 0/1 and I've assigned to this interface ip address 192.168.10.2, the router ip address is 192.168.10.1, Switch ip default-gateway is router ip address 192.168.10.1, ip default route is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.10.1 I've enabled ip routing feature and I've set no switchport feature to interface gigabit ethernet 0/1.From core switch I can ping router ip address but I can't make it from all other user, and the users not able to have internet access.

I have a cisco 3560 24PS and its connected to two ADSL broard band routers.one is a personal broadband line using a Billion ADSL broadband router, and the other is a business broardband line using BT's 2wire broadband line.on the Billion routers i have various things attached like a NAS and a printers, both wired connections. then i have laptops and phones that connect over wifi, so its configured to act as a DHCP server
 
the only thing conncted to my 2wire router is my company's laptop (wired or wifi depending on where i'm working from), so again i have it working as a dhcp server.The switch is configured with multiple vlans, with dhcp scopes assigned for each vlan.I have a static route pointing all traffic to my Billion ADSL for internet connectivity.
 
The problem i'm having is that when i turn on the cisco switch, all wifi conected devices loose their conection. only 2 things get it working again, a reboot of the router, or disabling then enabling the DHCP service on the router.upon further analysis i was able to find out that the devices were not able to pick up an address from the router. again i looked deeper into this and i can see the following on logs of my router: [code]
 
so it seems that the router tuns off its DHCP capabilities because it detects that my Cisco switch is running DHCP services. I need to figure out how to keep the billion routers DHCP running when ever the switch is turned on.is there a way of filtering out any DHCP chat from the switch to the router?

I am trying to figure out exactly what I need to buy to to connect to an ISP's fiber switch. We need to install a router between the fiber switch and our own core switch to be able to access the IP's allocated to the property. We installed a 1700 with the below config, but we want to purchase a brand new router and we were looking towards possibly the 1921 if the budget allows. Our distributor is telling us that we need to purchase an Ethernet WIC also, but if the router already has 2 ethernet interfaces, why do we need to purchase more hardware? I am a little out of the loop with routers at the moment, so I am not sure if they correct or not, just looking to see if this is the case and if so, why?

I have two 3750-X configured to be a stack and I am planning to re-rack these somewhere else.  What I would like to know is what are the effects of having the master switch itself lose power?  Does it immediately just make the member take over master (there should be no election since there are only 2 switches??) and there would be no loss of connectivity?

I have a Cisco 1941 K9 Router.  I want to add POE functionaltiy to it.  Specifically I want a 4 port EHWIC POE switch to power a couple of AP's.
 
This is what I understand I need; Upgrade/replace the internal power supply with PWR-1941-POE power supply,  This is supplied with a fan replacement also (not yet purchased).buy 1 x EHWIC-4ESG (4 port switch)buy 1 x ILPM-4 (inline daughter card / power supply board) I think the real question here is the 4 port switch... there are two types available one is EHWIC-4ESG=the other is EHWIC-4ESG-P= 

Is there any difference between these two switch modules? or are they the same and the more expensive "P" version is simply supplied with the ILPM-4 daughter card for POE?
 
I have recieved via courier today 1 x EHWIC-4ESG, and found a ILPM-4 on ebay for a good price.  WIll this provide POE through the switch EHWIC-4ESG?

We are having problems with a two router 3945 in HSRP and a switch 2960.The two routers are connected to the switch 2960 through differentes ports. The problem is that we loose connection between the router and the switch.When we excute the command: show cdp neighbor at router, it shows nothing.If we try to make ping to the 2960 switch it is no reachable.If we make ping to the other router 3945 it is not reachable.All other function of the router are o.k.We are attaching the IOS of the routers and switch 2960 and a document in which make reference to a BUG in which mention about arp overwrite due arp attack which produce DoS.

how this switch module works in 2911 router? I have two 2911 routers in HSRP configuration for redundancy with crossover cable between switch modules. OSPF running on routers.If active router loses its power and then comes back again, it boots first, its internal link to switch module comes up and it starts to forward packets to switch module. The switch module starts to boot only after router is ready. So I have outage of about 3-4 minutes. For our real-time applications it is way too long.

any way to start booting of the switch module before router gets ready?I understand I can boot it manually, but it is only after router is ready. Only way to get around it I found is to disable internal link and use router interface to connect to the switch module.

- Limit the interface to 10Mbps: speed 10

- and limit the interface with 30% of this speed:  srr-queue bandwidth limit 30
 
Does this work for both UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD?When the packets passes that 3Mbps limitation, will they be droped?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2600 Switch Ports Don't Even Show Up On Router Config

My network generally runs older routers (2600 series) with 16 port switch modules (NM-ESW-16).   This has always worked great since I can configure the router and the switch ports on the fly, making changes to either as necessary.  Well I am upgrading to 2811 routers, and we wanted to get gigabit ethernet ports on our switch modules.  I think I made an error when I purchased a few of these switch modules:  NME-16ES-1G.   
 
The first problem, is that the switch ports don't even show up on the router config, I have to establish a session into the switch, (And I can't seem to get back to the router unless I manually switch off power and restart).  I don't like this type of switch module, it's like I'm running a completely separate device, and while having a layer 3 switch is cool, It doesn't let me setup routing protocols so I don't like doing it this way.  I want to go back to using a switch module that simply adds a ton of ports to my router like the NM-ESW-16.  (Note:  The NM-ESW-16 does actually work in the 2811 and would be perfect if it were Gigabit speed.)
 
The seconds problem is that the NME-16ES-1G isn't actually a Gigabit switch.  It has a single gigabit port, but the 16 ports are all Fastethernet, and not gigabitethernet.  So ideally, I am looking for a switch module that I can fully configure from the router interface that has 16 gigabitethernet ports, and works with a 2811. IE I want to do this. I have a 1941 that I am going to deploy with a HWIC-D-9ESW switch module (I only need 3 switch ports but need the PoE).  I am going to hang a 1262 autonomous AP off one of the ports but I need to configure MAC address port-security so that only that AP can pass traffic. I know the switch modules are 'almost' exactly like a switch for commands but I can't seem to enable or configure any port-security settings.  Is port-security no available on the switch modules?

In change network topology, we are going to assign PC's Gateway as Switch (3750X) IP Address rather than server IP Address. Currently we have configured all Sytems's Gateway is Internet Server IP Address which we are going to replace with Switch IP as Gateway. [code]
 
Issue is while connecting specific application like team viewer in which application tried to send keep alive message to the live server and in case of switch/router IP as gateway. Connection doesn't established. However it is working fine when Internet Server IP treated as gateway.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960 / 1801 - Switch / Router VLAN Configuration

I've recently purchased a Cisco catalyst 2960S-24TS-L & setup 3 V LANS 10 (no current IP),20 (192.168.2.1) and 30 (192.168.3.1) to reflect the router V LAN configuration & ip information. When connecting my PC to the switch to test connectivity on (2.1 & 3.1) I'm unable to connect to the the net but can successfully ping GW (int FE0.20 & FE0.30) 192.168.2.1 & 3.1. 

The router is an Cisco 1801 & it seems this is where the configuration issue is but I'm unable to figure out how to complete the setup. It has been quite awhile since I've configured a Cisco router.

Ive never had this router connected to a switch so all router switch ports are in the default VLAN1 (192.168.1.2), with FE0  disabled. In trying to get the switch to communicate with the router I made the following router config modifications. 

FE0 enabled with subinterfaces configured
FE0.10-currently no ip
FE0.20-192.168.2.1/27
FE0.30-192.168.3.1/27

I have two issues I want to resolve: 
1) I do not know what additional steps are required to allow 2.1.& 3.1 V LANs to access the net.
2) I want to disable VLAN1 if possible & use the network IP for VLAN10 (192.168.1.0). I'm unsure how to do this as any change on VLAN1 immediately breaks router access and the router reconfiguration becomes more complicated with changes to the FW ACL etc.
