Nov 24, 2011I have Linksys WRT160N v2 wifi router that I have been using for over a year now, till two months back I was very happy with the router, speed was good without any signal issues though in last couple of weeks I have noticed that the router has started to create problems like the browsing will stop it self for a few seconds without any reason (specially I notice this when I am on youtube playing a video that will stop after 2 or 3 minutes).

Mar 13, 2012My Linksys Wireless-N router/access point (WRT160NV2) is connected to the internet in my primary residence, delivering 35mbps. I purchased a commercial Engenius product (EAP9550) to amplify the wifi signal over to a secondary house (about 180 ft away, traveling through 3 walls). Configured as an access point, the EAP9550 received and showed signal, but there was zero connectivity. The tech support at Engenius has advised me to configure the EAP9550 as an access point. My linksys router continues to deliver wireless signal for its range, but is only showing (not giving) full connectivity to the secondary access point.

Feb 8, 2013I have been spending days !!! trying to resolve why my laptop pc disconnects frequently from its wireless connection. No discernable pattern to disconnects, totally random. Happens in cycles of disconnect/auto reconnect or will go hours of stable operation. What I have noticed is tht the connection speed seems to vary, from a hig of 54.0 Mbps to as low as 2.0 Nbps. At same time the desktop pc (hard wired to modem) stays connected at 100 Mbps.Using RCA modem, WRT160n v3 router.

We've reset the router twice. we can set up the wireless network but we cannot connect to it. The connection last for about 5 minutes and then we get an error, cannot read IP address. Comcast says it is not their problem and linksys says they can't assist either.

Mar 9, 2013I had a power outage while online and when power resumed, I was no longer able to connect to the internet via my wireless router. My laptops (I have 2, work and personal) both receive the wireless signal from my router (a Linksys WRT54GC) but I get a 'DNS lookup failed' error message when trying to access the internet. My standard set up was Arris cable modem-->Linksys router-->Laptop but I've had to go cable modem-->Laptop via Ethernet in order to access the internet.
Both laptops are running WinXP Pro, SP3 and I ran 'ipconfig/all' on my work one, once when connected via Ethernet and once when I had my wireless connection enabled (but again, not connected to the internet). Results below.

Feb 22, 2013I have a switch connect to 2 backbone(BB).
Now i saw the lights when connect to BB1 is not light but i do not know which command will show the root cause or troubleshooting.
I want to know its caused by hardware, physical port or whatever. Any on can sharing the experiences how to show and troubleshooting this issue?
I also checked the connection and port 1g is fine. Show tech-support is alread here.

Mar 17, 2013I am almost new to the networking field, hence I might have lacking some basic knowledge. I like to know the impact if the ground of any router get disconnect. WIll the router stops work? We have two peripheral router in my organization, both are connect with the MPLS cloud through the MUX. One router (3745) have ground connection, where as the other (3845) don't. Recently the 3745 router start generating CRC error on the WAN interface. Once we remove the patch cord connecting with the MUX for loop test and reconnect later, the interface did not come back again. FInaly someone advice me to check the ground connection. I found it was loose. Once I fix it properly and reboot the router the interface become up. The person told me that some cisco router send the reference signal through the ground to the MUX connecting with it, if the MUX and router failed to exchange the reference signal the router will not work, is this true ?

Ip address of e1200 is set more than 5 apart from primary router, dhcp is disabled. The connection bewtween routers is Wan to Wan.

Cisco Linksys Model WRT160N V2 - Sporadic Internet Connectivity?
Feb 19, 2011Here's my situation.I had an 8 year old desktop computer that I just replaced with a brand new one (Lenovo). Prior to replacing it, I assumed the slowness and occasional inability to connect to the internet were caused by the computer being so old. But once I replaced the computer I still had problems - in fact it was worse.
At that point I was reminded that the modem was also 8 years old so I had the cable company replace it (Scientific Atlantic Model DPC2203C). The connection improved for a few days but then it went right back to how it was.
I have a wireless router (Cisco Linksys Model WRT160N V2), which is hooked up properly. When I got the new modem I had to reset the router. My wife's laptop now sometimes has connection problems which it never had before, and on my (work) laptop I can access the wireless connection but not through the same entryway that I had before. I'm providing this information because I think it may be relevant. It seems like something has to be up with the wireless router since I reset it. Another thought is that possibly the problem is with one of the wires between the router and either the modem or the computer - not sure if the sporadic connection problems is an indicator of that.

Jul 22, 2011specs: linksys router wrt160n v3, verizon modem gt701c, windows xp service pack 3, verizon DSL, southern california.I have been able to connect to the internet directly through the modem only...but i need my wireless back working. I've reset my router a few times recently trying things i've read on forums from people with similar problems. The most recent thing i did was RESET the router -> connected modem/router/computer properly -> turned them all back on in the proper order -> check to see if websites would open. They didn't so i tried doing this, which was suggested...i plugged the router into the computer and enabled MAC address and then pressed the Clone MAC address button and saved....then I tturned everything off again and rebooted everything again in the proper order and still couldn't load any web pages. My modem and wireless were working fine for years...and then recently without me doing anything my modem kept dropping connection and the internet and dsl lights kept flashing and then going back solid....so i'd be connected for a few minutes and then they'd start flashing again over and over all the time. I finally called verizon and then had me fiddle around with stuff...followed all their directions...but ended up only being able to connect while directly connected to the modem. Even then, the modem was still losing connection and getting it back. (i was supposed to schedule a house call for a tech to check it out, never did) Over a couple weeks the connection ended up getting better on its own, so now it pretty much never drops out anymore. (almost) i've reset my modem, i've reset my router....i just still cant seem to get websites working with my modem and wireless router connected.
WRT160N - Video Chatting Fails And Disconnects Internet Connection
Aug 27, 2011I can't seem to skype or video chat of any sort (ie: aim video chat, facebook video chat, etc.) on my computer. Whenever I start skype or try to start a video chat on aim/facebook, it fails and my internet disconnects for everyone. I don't know what could be wrong. Using the same wireless internet, my friends are able to video chat on their macbooks. It seems like my computer is the only one that can't video chat. Video chatting works when I use a sprint internet card. I have a sony vaio laptop running on windows 7. Our router in our apartment at school is a D-link wireless N? In addition to this problem, my internet loves to disconnect randomly too...this problem also persists at home with my Cisco Linksys router (model WRT160N V3) and Speedstream 5100 modem.

Aug 7, 2008I've recently purchased a WRT160N router, and I'm using it in conjunction with a WMP54G wireless PCI card. I've set the router up to my requirements, and can get a stable wireless connection.. but internet speed seems excessively slow. While I'm able to get up to around 4MB/s transferring files over the network, running speed tests, it consecutively shows my download speed to sit around 400KB/s, whereas I'm able to get a steady 1.1MB/s on another desktop that is wired. Disabling the LAN adapter on that computer, and connecting via wireless, brings down the speed that that computer is able to get to around 400KB/s as well. Hence, I don't think it's my wireless cards, but something to do with the router itself.I'm also experiencing lag spike issues in online games, which I can only attribute to the current wireless setup, because I've previously had no issues with it. All relevant ports are forwarded, so that is not an issue.After doing some Googling on the subject, someone had suggested running SpeedGuide's TCP Optimizer, and changing the RWIN - I ran it, and set it to the 'optimal' settings, and after a reboot the wireless seemed fine - I was getting just a tad under what I should (about 950KB/s).. but after a short while, it just went back to 400KB/s. After further investigation, it seems that Vista automatically changes that RWIN value to optimize network traffic.. but I never had this issue with my old wireless gear, so I can only assume that the way Vista is reacting is based on the way the router is interacting with it.

If it is connected from the ethernet port into the WRT160N router, the LAN works but not the internet, even though the internet light is a solid green on the GT701. I've read about port forwarding and DMZ, but still not positive if I should do one or the other, much less on how to go about setting either of them up correctly.

Mar 10, 2011A few weeks ago, I noticed that my Internet connection had slowed down to a crawl. I waited a few days hoping it would go away on its own, but it didn't get better. So I asked this question about how to make it faster.
The problem went away after I updated to the latest firmware, so I didn't follow up too carefully. But every few days since then, my Internet has slowed down again. Unlike before, all I have to do to fix it is open the router administration page and press the "Reboot" button. Nothing else seems to work, though I'm sure there are options I haven't tried.
If it makes a difference, my girlfriend and I both transfer large amounts of data fairly routinely for school (videoconferencing, downloading entire recorded lectures).
The router is a Cisco/Linksys WRT160N v3 that's about a year old. Most of the time, it deals with just two standard Windows 7 laptops.
What could be causing these slowdowns, and how can I get rid of them?
I installed dd-wrt on my router, and I seem to be getting higher and more consistent speeds. Perhaps more importantly, my memory use is fairly constant.

i used to have firmware version 2.02 build 15...It was stable unlike the current firmware...i cant find the old firmware anywhere...how do i revert back to old firmware?

In my windows server 2003 I configured DHCP scope for each VLAN.One of the requirement to connect vlans each other is to put the IP of each vlan as gateway in the clients.So, how can I do to access to internet?. The ip of my Firewall are in one of the VLAN´s.When the configuration of the LAN only had one DHCP scope the gateway was the ip of my firewall. But now i don´t know how to configure the DHCP server, or the firewall, or the switch, or all of them To get access to internet.
