Cisco WAN :: 2951 - ROM Error Crashes Two Routers At The Same Time
Oct 30, 2012
We are a medium-large sized company with approx.100 offices located across North America. Every single office connects to each other and the data center via a DMVPN overlay network. The DMVPN hub router (Cisco 2951), R-Q9-1, is located at our data center and is the "workhorse" of the company. We also have a redundant hub router, R-Q9-2, at the data center with exact same hardware specs.
Each office builds an EIGRP Tunnel0 and Tunnel1 to R-Q9-1 and R-Q9-2 respectively. All data traffic flows over Tunnel0 to R-Q9-1 until it fails, at which point traffic starts to flow over Tunnel1 to R-Q9-2. This has been working seamlessly for last 1 year of implementing this design, until yesterday, when both R-Q9-1 and R-Q9-2 rebooted all of a sudden at the same time right in the middle of a production day. I confirmed there was no power failure at the data center. A show version of both routers gives me this:
R-Q9-1 uptime is 1 day, 1 hour, 24 minutes
System returned to ROM by address error at PC 0x5C92E28, address 0x5DF36FE9 at 11:52:23 EDT Tue Sep 21 2010

I Google that error but can't find anything specific other than it's saying it's some kind of bus error. What I also found a bit off is the time it's showing on both routers' show version output (Sep 21, 2010 and Jan 10, 2012). Here are the current clock settings on both routers at the time of this writing.
R-Q9-1#sh clock *16:53:31.216 EDT Wed Oct 31 2012
R-Q9-2#sh clock *16:59:44.220 EDT Wed Oct 31 2012
I checked my Syslog server and did not find anything specific during the time of the crash, however, syslog was filled with errors similar to this one
2469: * Tunnel0: NHRP Encap Error for Resolution Request , Reason: protocol generic error (7) on (Tunnel: 10.10.200.1 NBMA: IP address ommitted)
[code]...
I have never seen these errors before and all of a sudden they seem to have stopped since this morning.
I've noticed this in the last few days, but my internet seems to crash at the exact same time (29 past the hour) every hour. We've recently had a new modem in, and was working fine. I recently had a mass clearout of a lot of things in my PC (got rid of 500 gigs), so I'm wondering whether I may have deleted something which has caused this.
I recently received these routers and after the first reboot I changed the user id and password so it does not lock out...After configuring my routers for installation, upon bootup I am getting this message scroll down my screen
I am looking to setup a solution for backing up a Metro Ethernet connection on a 2951 using an 1841 and 2 T1's in a Multilink. The Metro E will be primary, and if the BGP peer goes down, I want it to switchover to the 1841. Can it be done and is there an example of the BGP setup to work off of?
We are planning on testing a new ISP provider in our company but we have the following doubt: This new provider is using a Optical Fiber line (GPON – PT Prime) for this new internet connection and we already have a Cisco RV220W router but they are not sure if that can be used, so they just informed that they a capable router is the Cisco 2951-SEC/K9, that they are selling of course. So our actual doubt is if the Cisco 2951-SEC/K9 can have some “extra” WAN configurations/authentications that are not available in our Cisco RV220W and that can implicate that we cannot use our RV220w router?
We have a new optical fiber connection from a new ISP (only for Internet) and we found that our Cisco router RV220w won't work with this new connection because is not possible to add the V LAN ID 20 for the WAN traffic, as required by our ISP/connection. Now we would like to know what Cisco routers can support this feature and that can be "similar" to the RV220w or if there is another way to solve this problem and maintain our actual RV220w, because the features on this particular router (apart of the V LAN ID on Wan) are more than enough for us -
We would like to have a “simple” router and with firewall and VPN features as RV220w, because the one that our provider says that works seems to be too much for us Cisco 2951-SEC K9 – We are a small company with a network of around 10 computers and we only need some VPN connections for our sales companies in Europe and workers when traveling (3-5 VPN connections are OK).
My company is doing an nationwide upgrade of it's leased 2951 routers. For security sake I need to wipe everyone of them before being sending them back to the leasing company. I would like to somehow boot to a USB drive and call it a day.
we have some RV042 Routers with Firmware 1.3.12.x we would like to replace with the new V3 hardware.
We downloaded the migration utility 1.0.2.2, which crashes for at least one device.
The release notes for the utility are for version 1.0.2.8, where some crashes seems to be fixed, but where can we download this actual version?? I can only see the (older) 1.0.2.2..
We have several RV082s here which are intended to connect to a central ASA5510 firewall. The VPNs are configured and do work basically, however in our test environment the RV082s kept crashing after an apparently unpredictable amount of time (sometimes after several days or even weeks). All the RV082 have the newest firmware installed (v4.1.0.02-tm).
When further investigating the issue, I found out that the crashes can be reproduced when enabling the keep-alive option on the RV082. When powering up the RV082, they boot, start up the VPN, and then they crash a few seconds after the tunnel has been established (one or two pings usually get through). When crashing, the RV082 becomes completely unreachable, ie no ping, no webinterface etc.
There is a note in the firmware release notes saying that enabling the keep-alive option would not work the way it should. However it seems that enabling that option lets the router completely crash after its next reboot. This makes the keep-alive option basically worthless, however we need this since the routers will get installed at remote sites with no personnel available there.
Is there any way to enable the keep-alive option without making the routers crash immediately after startup?
I just got a dir-655 revb, and it does not connect to the internet. I have DSL, and the old router works fine with PPPoE, when I configure my dir-655b router, it can not connect to the internet. I get the flowing error:

I have a wireless router in my house/office which allows everyone to print to a wireless printer and used to supply acces to the internet. Recently I purchased a 4G Internet card from Verizon (wireless connection for up to 5 devices) which works very well but when I am connected to it I cannot print to the wireless router. Is there any way to be able to connect to two routers at the same time?
I have a computer & Bluray..should I use router to be able to use bothe at same time?I have a single port dsl line..or should I get a mulit port "modem/router"?
I have one Cable Modem/Router built in (Netgear CGD24N) and I wish to use two routers (the other being the DIR-655). The Netgear is a fantastic Cable Modem but a ****py router, but I wish to use both. One will be situated upstairs and the other downstairs.I have connected the two at different locations via the wall and the DIR-655 successfully went to the Netgear login page (as I went to 192.168.0.1) but internet connection was not working, whereas the Netgear internet was working. This was connected LAN to LAN.
Another procedure I have tried was connecting to them LAN - INTERNET (INTERNET being the D-link one) and received the following message: "The addressing of the Internet side learnt thru DHCP conflicts with the addressing selected for the LAN side. Internet communications will be disabled until you have changed the LAN side addressing to resolve the problem."
I just upgraded the firmware on the RV220W to 1.0.2.4 and it looks like the time is not updating. I tried a couple of different default time servers and also a custom time server (time4.nrc.ca).
We are using router RV042 since last three it's working fine with single broadband connection but when we are using as a load balance it will hanged three or four time in a single day. I have updated firmware also but still my problem is not resolved
Below is my router detail. CPU: Intel IXP425-266 Firmware version : 1.3.12.19-tm (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21) DRAM : 32M Flash : 8M
Latest firmware is v4.1.1.01-sp.bin but it will required v3 hardware, I don't know how to check hardware version.
Cisco RV016 MultiWAN router.I have it connected in a small business setting with about 70-80 devices. Network is: 2 x DSL Modems. RV016 Router...Cisco 300 Series Switch - >3 more cisco switches connected...AP's.Running a 192.168.0.0 network. The web interface is down half the time. The router needs to be reset in order for me to access it again. Usually the login page appears but when I try to login the page does not leave the login area, only a small spinning icon beside the login area.Sometimes the page for DHCP status cannot be accessed and a reset is all I can do to access the router again.
Internet seems a little slow at times too.We were running the Netgear FVS336G before this and I wanted to move to the RV016 and have capability of more than two WAN's, plus have everything Cisco of course.
I have 2 network adapter on my PC , but i cant use this 2 internet connection at a time, these connections are taken from main router. is it possible to increase my internet speed ? . i can use each connection seperatly, if one connection remove another will work,
I have 2 RV042 routers with identical firmware (1.3.13.02-tm) and settings. One router is a backup that sits in a box, but both experience this problem. The WAN port gives very poor performance most of the time. Download speeds range from normal, 25mb, to less than .5mb. Pings from my command prompt or the routers "Diagnostic" page, even to the cable modem, are almost always above 500ms. However, pings to internal resources are fast, usually under 5ms. If I connect my laptop directly to the cable modem I have no speed issues. The problem occurs whether I use WAN1 or WAN2.
If I restart the router, speeds are fine for a few seconds and then it begins to slow down like someone is turning down a dial. We also regularly experience a complete internet disconnect quite often, and when it happens, the ping results are the same when it comes back up, almost like the router is restarting itself. [code]
I have two routers one is a o2 router which is for the internet (broadband) the other is an old bt home hub which i have connected to the printer via usb. In order to print a document at the moment i have to disconnect my laptop from the broadband router and connect it to the printer router. Is there any way that i can connect to the two router s at the same time so that i while printing i can still keep my internet connection.
Had laptop connecting wirelessly perfect with no problems. We then added another laptop and PSP 3 to the house hold. Any of the 3 devices will connect to the internet via wireless but ONLY one at a time. If you are connected with one and turn on one of the others it will kick the one off that you were on and only 1 device can use wireless at a time?
I'm new to networking (at least at this level) and need some guidance. First, I have an Actiontec MI424WR (Rev. F) Coax Verizon Fios modem that I use as my home networking wireless router. From a LAN port on that I've connected a cable to the WAN port on my DIR-655 which acts as my gigabit office hard wire/wireless router. I need to keep the home network and the office network separate. All of my computers are Windows, either 7, Vista or XP.Connected to my Dir-655 on the office network are 2 wireless computers, a printer, an IOMEGA 1TB Home Personal Cloud NAS HDD, plus 2 desktop computers. The DIR-655 is set with a static IP address matching the range of the Actiontec. The DIR-655 is set for DHCP for the devices on the network (although 2 of the computers have static IP address).
When the DIR-655 had a Dynamic IP address set by the Actiontec, the IOMEGA NAS HDD kept losing connection with all the devices on the network. Only after I set the DIR-655 to static IP did that stop and everybody started to play nice. I'm not sure why that would make a difference, but it did.But regardless of whether it is set to dynamic or static, no computer on the network or program, even third party programs, can connect to ANY of the time servers out there... and I mean any of them. I've tried at least 20 or more of the standard and not so standard ones. The DIR-655's time is off, and it is set to get time automatically. None of my computers, or my IOMEGA NAS, can access time. The Actiontec, though, seems to be set correctly.Everything connects to the internet just fine. Web, email, auto product upgrades. Fine. So far it's just the time server thing which troubles.I done everything I know how to do to enable Port Forwarding through both routers for NTP > UDP 123 since that is the standard port for the Network Time Protocol, but I could have easily screwed that up.
Can't use internet and phone at the same time on the N150 router. On DSL and whether on the DSL line or using VOIP when using the phone the internet goes down.
Our company just recently bought a CISCO SA520W Security Appliance from a distributor here in the Philippines. Unfortunately, after a month of use, the LAN ports on the appliance started losing power. We reported this to the distributor and they sent a CISCO engineers to check on the unit. The engineers found the unit to be defective and need to be replaced.
Three weeks after the distributor pulled-out the unit, I have followed-up the status with them. They told me that they got no definite ETA from CISCO for the replacement unit. I followed-up with them again after a week. This time, they told me that the device is already in transit and it is coming from CISCO USA but they still don't have an expected time of arrival to give me.Does it really take more than a month for CISCO to replace a brand new defective unit? The serial number of our appliance is DNI1610G0G7.
I have a curious issue on a customer site where the above components are installed. The issue being that the iPhones the users utilise cannot connect to the mail server via WiFi, they are forced to connect with their 3G connection. The core issue seems to be the 887VA, as when I've installed 'lesser' branded ADSL routers, the connection seems to be fine. The iPhones are set to access the mail server via the URL: mail.customer.com. Should I change this to the internal IP of the server 192.168.12.200, the mail connection works fine. However I cannot expect the client to make this change every time they arrive or leave the office. Presently I have them disable WiFi when on premises.
I have a RV042 and have set it up for VPN Client access using the QuickVPN client to connect my remote users. I discovered today that I cannot have two users connect in at the same time. Both users are in the same remote office. They can connect individually with no problem but if one is connected and the other tries connect also the second user gets a message the gateway is not responding. They are both running Win XP PRo SP3.
Time shows as: Current Time: 2011/09/03 Sta 20:53:36 (-08:00) "Sta" day? Also, the timezone is incorrect... I did select GMT -8:00 Pacific Time, and also the "Adjust for Daylight Savings time) So, the above time SHOULD be displayed as 2011/09/03 Sat 20:53:36 (-07:00) If the intention is to show the difference from UTC/GMT. I tried the newer version but it's broken big time. :-( I could not use it at all. None of the configuration changes I made would "stick".

Access Control on an ac1200 does not seem to flexible enough to include hours from say 8pm - 6am. On my old Linksys I would simply have multiple entries for the same MAC address but this does not seem possible.
