Cisco WAN :: 3845 - Ethernet Hand-off From ISP
Aug 29, 2011
I am switching to a single Ethernet hand-off from my ISP which currently gives me 4 T1 lines. I have a Cisco 3845 router that services the current T1s. My question is since my ISP is giving me just a single Ethernet hand-off going forward can I connect it directly to the internal NICs on the 3845 or do I have buy some other HWIC?
I will be running a 100Mbps connection over the hand-off and the NICs are Gigabit NICs. I will not be doing anything fancy over this, just simply a couple of routes in the routing table. No VPN, no fire walling, etc. The specs state that the 3845 is only for up to a T3 speeds but I am not sure if that is for the HWIC interfaces or for the whole thing in general?

I have an Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs) made and trying to test the Gigabit Interface on a 3845 Router with a fail result. The interface will show up/up only if I set the interface to 100M/Full Duplex when I plug-in the Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs). I don't see this Gigabit Interface @ 3845 router has any option to set it to internal or external loopback.

Is there any physical or technical diferrences between PWR-3845 AC/2 and PWR-3845 AC? We are trying to order replacement parts and wondering if PWR-3845 AC is for one power supply and AC/2 means you get two with one order?

I am looking for some tips on managing my router. I have noticed lately our bandwidth useage has gone up and maxing our DSL line.Cacti is monitoring just for traffic trending and I am in the middle of getting NetFlow going.
Our router sits on the edge with no internal way to access it (or at least so I think right now.)
My thought is to enable NetFlow and port forward it into our network and use ManageEngine to see whats going on.I dont have any ACLs running on the router... We have two connections DSL and T1, I have them into a routing policy. Our nating and firewall sit behind the 2811.

I have a wireless access point, I want to be able to hand out addresses via the Cisco router through DHCP on the interface eth0/1. The wireless users that get an IP I want then route out the eth0/0 interface to my statically assigned default gateway. Right now Im not concerned with setting up security measures once this works I'll go back in and add that. Here is my running-config. Right now nothing from the 10.0.0.0 is being routed out to the internet.

My cisco representative tells me that I am limited to 10 IP addresses for my 10 user license on an ASA 5505 even though the Cisco documentation specifically states that a 10 user license allows the maximum DHCP clients to 32 IP addresses.
I want to have 30 computers get IP addresses from the ASA, but don't need any but one or two to get outside the internal network. Is this possible with a 10 USER license.

Currently our Cisco 3750 have one interface (port 1) that connected to our provider (Internap) with the IP 66.150.7.68 assigned. Now we want to upgrade to dual handoff L3 protocol. Below is the network configuration from Internap.

tell what command lines do I need to input on my Cisco switch for port 1 and 2 in order for the dual handoff to work correctly?

I currently have DCHP server set up on my new 1141N. Everything works great, but I wanted to know if it were possible to make the DHCP server only hand out ip addresses on the wireless connection? Currently the AP is giving out ip addresses from the pool to wired and wireless pc's.

The client gets a 192.168.3.2 address but am not able to ping the router and other clients and get out to the internet.
Here is the config that I have. I deleted the other ports because I am not using them. The vlan 3 client is on port fast Ethernet 0/17 and the router is connected to the fastethernet 0/1.

We have upgraded our gateway router from a Cisco Linksys RVL200 to a Cisco 861, this is a big jump from a GUI driven system to IOS CLi and i'm having issue finding my feet. I tried the Cisco CP system but it didn't work so I'm going to configure it with IOS commands. I wish to replicate the current configuration on the 200 with the following setup.
I have created a DHCP pool but i am unable to configure the FastEthernet ports to hand out address automatically, the pool is called USERS with range 192.168.1.30 -> 192.168.1.253.How do I work out the client-identifier for a DHCP client, I don't want to plug this into the network and manual reconnect all the PC's just to get the ID then make a static route.

I own a Dell Latitude D600 that I purchased off of Ebay a few months ago. For the past month I have been having an issue with my wireless card. My problem started when I turned on my computer and booted up and when my desktop loaded, no wireless icon or signal strength showed on the bottom right hand corner where are the other icons are. I went to Device Manager and in the Network adapter section was an exclamation point next to the Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band WLan mini pci card which showed that there is a code 10 error. I have tried uninstalling it but then I would always get the BSOD with the BCMWL5.sys error. I have tried updating the driver as well but it would tell me that it already is up to date. I have also tried reinstalling my OS but my code 10 error always returns. When I opened up my laptop to see if the card is the cables are loose (which they weren't), I noticed that my wireless card is the Broadcom 4309.
I would also like to ask exactly what order am I suppose to have all of my drivers installed? I am almost positive that I am not installing them correctly. I have seen websites that say to install the Intel Chipset and O2 Smart Card first and then the NSS and so on.

I curently have 2 Data centers connected with a Metro Ethernet Connection. Each Data Center has 6500 with Sup720s. The Metro Ethernet connection is currently conected by a L3 routed interface. I now need to enable VRFs between the locations and want to determine the best way to adjust the Mero. I was considering adjusting the routed interface to use Ethernet sub-interfaces. Each VRF would be given a different subinterface over the Metro Ethernet connection. I have done this on internal LAN connections but am concerned about exteding across data centers over Metro E.

I am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

I've tried restarting my laptop (it usually works) and then reinstalled the device under "device manager". It's not the cord, I've checked with my neighbor's laptop and it works fine.I use a Sony Vaio VGN-NS140E with Windows Vista SP2.

I have 2 x Cisco 3845 each one with a DS3 circuit, both running c3845-spservicesk9-mz.124-15.T3. In each of them I have one pvc provided by my carrier and I received the following info to configure:
vc-class atm ATM
vbr-nrt 44096 44096 1
oam-pvc manage
oam retry 3 10 1
encapsulation aal5mux ip
That worked fine for the first one with the NM-ATM-DS3, however, using NM-1A-T3/E3, it seems that I'm restricted up to 40700 kbps PCR/SCR:
router(config-vc-class)#vbr-nrt ?
I tried to look for some reference but couldn't find... Is there a way I can have a full DS3 with this card?

I am replacing our core router, which is a very old 7204VXR, with a T3 card in it. We are using it to terminate about 10 point to point T1's. It is also the central gateway for our entire network.
I am planning on replacing it with a 3845, and an NM-1T3/E3 card for my DS3. I think I've got that part worked out.
My real question is concerning future upgrades. We are trying to convert many of these point to point connections to Metro Ethernet, and get rid of the huge DS3 cost. When that happens, I'll probably have a handful of point to point T1's left over (maybe 2-6 of them). So, what I need is a good solution to terminate those 2-6 PTP T1's in my 3845. In the past I have just been using the old WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 cards to terminate my T1's. I am looking for a solution that won't break the bank. I looked at both the HWIC-4T1/E1 and the NM-8CE1T1-PRI cards (which terminate 4 and 8 T1's), but they are like $4,500 and $8,500 respectively. That's way beyond my budget for these. I definitley don't need a card that will do PRI's (DSP's etc.). I just need it to terminate plain old point to point T1's.
So it may be that I'm just looking at the wrong cards. Or maybe the make cards that will go in the back of the 3845 that will house 2, 4 or more WIC slots, and I could just use WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 cards?

I just got a new Xbox today, and use the integrated WiFi card. I was lagging like Crysis 2 on a 6800 GT (forget it). I just got a CAT .5 cable, and plugged it into modem/xbox and IDK... it works, I'm online, but basically my question is:Does ethernet connections have less ping (better) than wireless connections? This is with the Xbox 360 Slim. I know it improves upload, and download, but what about ping?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. No errors (? or !) in Device Manager and I can't find the Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller in device manager. I have attempted to Reinstall the drivers. The wireless is still working. I have one Light to the right of the port that is on all the time solid but no flashing with the cable in or out.

I am installing Cisco blank CF upgrades (double the capacity of the CF that came with the router) in Cisco 3845 routers and I cannot get the IOS to load.
Network security requires tftp be disabled, so I am limited to xmodem. Slow, but it works. I know the IOS download is good, because I can load it on the CF that came with the router.
I can install, format and read the new flash. But the download locks up and bombs about 1/3 of the way through.
Note: CF that came with the router was "C" so I used the format flash: command. The new flash reads the same as the old, except that there is no file IOS loaded.
I've never had an issue upgrading an IOS, but this is my first shot at installing on a new CF.

After that we send same data through 1841 router & 46 Min are required for the same. Only difference in data transfer is CPU Utilization of 1841 router goes 30% & 5 % of 3845 router Can we use 1841 router instead of 3845 router ? .
