Cisco Switching/Routing :: 861 - Can't Configure FastEthernet Ports To Hand Out Address Automatically
May 27, 2012
We have upgraded our gateway router from a Cisco Linksys RVL200 to a Cisco 861, this is a big jump from a GUI driven system to IOS CLi and i'm having issue finding my feet. I tried the Cisco CP system but it didn't work so I'm going to configure it with IOS commands. I wish to replicate the current configuration on the 200 with the following setup.
I have created a DHCP pool but i am unable to configure the FastEthernet ports to hand out address automatically, the pool is called USERS with range 192.168.1.30 -> 192.168.1.253.How do I work out the client-identifier for a DHCP client, I don't want to plug this into the network and manual reconnect all the PC's just to get the ID then make a static route.
in my production environment two swtiches with stack and all ports are in the same Vlan 2 192.168.117.254 and the default getway is 192.168.117.1install correctely all were working fine but from yesterday onwards some of the ports are getting down automatically and coming up automatically and all devices are having static IP's no dynamic. [code]
I Have a problem I'm trying to configure automatically my switch over ther DHCP when I start the switch it request an IP from the DHCP from here everythings is fine but it does nothing more, indeed I put on my dhcp the option 66 and 67 which is an adress of my TFTP server and a file to download and the switch seems not to understand theses options , I tried my dhcp with a cisco airport and everythings works fine the File from the TFTP is automatically downloaded into the airport...There is an option to add or am I missing something in order to make it work with my switch ?
I am having the most difficult time trying to setup the Cisco 1841 with a new Fiber Optic ISP. I have no experience with Cisco equipment but have taught myself some basics. All my attempts have ended with failure. I definitely will be taking some cisco courses soon.
Our current setup
20mbs Fiber Optic ISP
- They are providing us a x.x.129.233/30 WAN IP and a x.x.131.225/27 Public IP Block Cisco 1841 Router (Which has no configuration at all, it was wiped by the ISP) 1x HP Procruve 2610 24 port Gigabit Switch
What we need is simple, we just need to distribute the Public IP block through to the LAN on the switch side. I would post a config if I had one already made, but the 1841 is a clean slate. I just wiped it again to start fresh.
I am getting the new Cisco 2921/K9 router, which comes by default with 3 Integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports. I have Comcast Cable as the ISP, so can I connect the ISP RJ45 Copper cable directly to one of the integrated ports or do I have to buy another WAN Interface Cards for the ISP.
How i can configure the SFP Ports on my 4500 SERIES CHASSIS with other SFP ports on the connecting switch. I want to connect 15 switches via GLC=SX=MM to my 4506E sfp card.
where 192.168.1.150 is my server (that hosts SQL server and that I want to be able to connect to remotely using VNC) and GigabitEthernet0 is my configured WAN interface.
When I try to connect from an external client I get the error: "Failed to connect to server..." Is this a firewall issue? How do I get round it? The 819 is the only router/firewall in my network.
Currently our Cisco 3750 have one interface (port 1) that connected to our provider (Internap) with the IP 66.150.7.68 assigned. Now we want to upgrade to dual handoff L3 protocol. Below is the network configuration from Internap.
>>>> We have assigned the below /30s for each of the interfaces and will statically route the 66.150.7.0/25 down both interfaces. >>>> >>>> >>>> 63.251.162.20/30 >>>> 63.251.162.21 - border1.sef003 - Internap side >>>> 63.251.162.22 - your side >>>> >>>> 63.251.162.184/30 >>>> 63.251.162.185 - border2.sef003 - Internap side >>>> 63.251.162.186 - your side
tell what command lines do I need to input on my Cisco switch for port 1 and 2 in order for the dual handoff to work correctly?
I have 2921 router and I have 3 very basic switches that I need to connect to the router. The switches have very basic default configurations and there is no way to edit them, so I only have one VLAN and one default gateway. I can't assign the same IP address to each LAN port. I'm not sure how to make this setup work.
I have been reading the postings on this site trying to retrieve the MAC address for the client devices (computers, printers) attached to our switches. We have approximately 500 switches and I need to map the mac address to the switch. It appears the OID information is for SNMP v2. We are restricted to using only SNMP v3. I have tried using the Cisco SNMP Object Navigator without any success.
suppose i have one switch and many RIPv2 routers connected to it.ripv2 destination address is 224.0.0.9 that is mapped to 0100:5e00:0009 normally the switch will send this frame to all ethernet ports
is there a way to take benefit from the multicast address so that the frame will be sent only to the RIP routers.i know it is possible to map staticlly the mac address to some ports but is there any dynamic solution also?
Have our public IP address space masked on /24 at our Internet Router. The router portion of 3845 connects to Internet, while the internal switch connects to my internal network and seeds it with the public address space. The switch had a port configured no switchport (L3) with an ip address with /24 (ie 67.63.145.1 /24) this connects to internal IPS/IDS then to Firewall which NATs to internal, then packet shaper, web filter etc etc etc. I need to test my ISP speed so I need to "break in" to the link between the switch and the IPS/IDS. I figured I could configure another port on the switch on the 3845 but my problem is the port to my network is routed and is masked on entire /24. I tried to configure a port on VLAN 1 and give myself an available address in the L3 address space and this did not work (figured it would not but gave it a try)
Any way to get two ports configured to use the same subnet while one is a L3 routed port and the other is just part of that layer 3 routed network?
As per the attached diagram: How do I configure the 2 ports on the 3560 (Ports 6 & 7) and the connected ports on each of the 2960 switches (Port 25) to provide redundancy.
If the up link from Switch A dies then I need the traffic to flow through the trunk and utilize the up link on Switch B with minimal delay (milliseconds).
In my environment we have 3750x switches running ios 15.0 (1) SE2. We have port security mac address sticky configured on all our switch ports. I noticed that we have several interfaces (on different switches) that are up but have not captured the MAC address from the workstation. Here is one example:
I have a task of setting up bandwidth limit on the 2811 router Fastethernet interfaces. The scenario is:We have a 4MB Internet connection and would like to allocate bandwidth usage to users.
Fastethernet 0/0 needs to be set with 256KB output and 2048 input. This is going to be connected to a wireless router. Fastethernet 0/1 needs to be configured with 2048 output.I could also use SDM if that's easier than using CLI.
I have a Cisco 1841 router with Fa0/0, Fa0/1 and Se0/0/0:0 interfaces. Fa0/0 is facing the LAN. At the moment WAN interface is Se0/0/0:0. It has following configuration:
how to configure an IPaddress for a PWR-RPS 2300?.I tried finding info on the website but no luck as yet. RPS 2300 will be used on stack of 3750E series switches.
This is probably a dumb question, but I have read the 2960 stack administration guide and it does not explain how to configure the stack IP address. It says several times that the stack can be managed from the stack IP address, and that the stack IP address is a system-level configuration item. But it never explains how to configure the stack IP address.
I have "inherited" a Catalyst 4506 with IOS version 12.2(20)EWA1 and Supervisor IV already installed. We recently purchased a second Supervisor IV and I am looking to install this second supervisor for redundancy. Is there anything special with installing a second supervisor or so I just physically install the new supervisor and the IOS will automatically set everything up?
working first time on switch 4507 , this is my 2nd week and i plug the console on this 4507 switch , the switch reboots automatically it comes to stage mention below and reboots. My question is i have not seen any error message on this switch and it reboots automatically so what is the problem.

I have 2 SG300 switches, in layer3 mode, lag'd together for high availability, serving 2 Dell R815's and a Dell Equallogic 4100 for virtualisation. I have setup a number of vlan's, network traffic, mgmnt traffic, iScsi, vMotion etc and they seem to work.
However, Equallogic unit suddenly became unavailable to view for managment yet maintained iscsi traffic for the servers ok. After much head scratching, noticed that one of my SG300's had the vlan ports assigned to various vlans had *automagically* changed there assignment, ie tagged changed to excluded, but only for one of the iscsi traffic connections and the mgmnt port, both coming from the Equallogic, the other iscsi continued its assignment fine. The other SG300 hasn't changed. Guaranteee no one has been into change it and no changes have been made to Dell servers or Equallogic.
Q. Is there any circumstance where the switch can change the port setup itself? or is there any external circumstance that would trigger that change either?
This has now occured twice. The setup is running as a test lab, not in production until all setup is complete, then it will replace our existing harware.
Switch automatically restarts for no reason , I have upgraded the software.can not find fault. more crashinfo, see the following output:
HKZ-SSL-4-NAN-4506#more crashinfo:data Current Time: 5/27/2013 10:28:10 Last Power Failure: 05/08/2013 16:55:28 Last Reload Status: 00000000 Last Software Reset State: 00000301
A 4506 Switch reboot several times a day for no reason, I have been trying to upgrade the software . Normal operation of more than ten days , Still there reason to restart . CPU and memory usage is normal
Switch output information below:
HKZ-SSL-4-NAN-4506#sh ver Cisco IOS Software, Catalyst 4500 L3 Switch Software (cat4500e-ENTSERVICES-M), Version 12.2(54)SG1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) [ code].....
I want upgrade IOS on my 7206VXR from 12.4(12c) to 15.1(4)M5 , but the CF card only 64M.
-NAME: "disk2", DESCR: "64MB Compact Flash Disk for NPE-G1" -Router#show bootvar
BOOT variable = disk2:c7200-jk9s-mz.124-12c.bin,15.1(4)M5 is almost 40M. So there is not enough space.I want to ask is it ok if I upgrade with normal precedure , With the command " copy tftp: disk2: " ?Does the router will automatically delete the older IOS first and then copy into the new one ? Or Is there something I should pay attention first ?
I have a scenario where 15 c500 switches and 5 2960 8 port switch connected to 4507R core switch. There are 10 dhcp pools created on the 4507.
Eg: ip dhcp pool XXXX network xxxx.xxxxxxx default-router x.x.x.x
Now the default router is directed to vlans created on the switch i.e vlan 101, 102, 103 and so on. Now the remaining switches connected are configured to be in the same vlan. So the systems connected to the edge switches will get the DHCP ip automatically, Now my problem is after sometime (may be 2 or 3 hrs) all the edge switches are losing configuration automatically even though it's not restarted, even after saving the config on to nvram, everytime I connect the console and check all the saved config is lost?
Facing a unique problem in my cisco Router (2811) .. Router is well configured but suddenly it stops working , when logged in using console the configuration register is observed to be 0x2142.
How does it automatically changes register value during operation?
I coulden't visit any websites and it gave me an "error 105" something. So i tried connecting my other comp to the internet cabel with the same result. So i tried to find a solution on the web (wierless internet still worked) and stumbeld upon a similar problem were the answer was to manually fill in an adress in the "internet protocol version 4" properties in the "local area connection" properties. I then noticed that i dident have the "Obtain DNS server address" set to automatically and that the other manual boxes were empty. I then turned the auto on an i had access to internet. Is this safe? Cause i read somewere that DNS server addresess were provided by the company that provide you your internet service, and that you can be redericted to a fake website that can get a hold of your account information on it
