Cisco WAN :: 881 Losing Own Interface From Routing?

May 10, 2011

my 2 881 in a site, running IOS c880data-universalk9-mz.150-1.M4.bin suddenly lost their routing for the fe4(WAN)! It happened once to the 1st one and then to the other (no connection between them).

The problem is that wan interface, although it was up/up and had an ip statically, and was working fine, suddenly, although it was up/up it couldnot ping the directly attached other gw (i could ping the gw with a laptop having the same IP address as FE4) I issued show ip routing, and in the routing table i could only see the LAN network!!

The LED for FE4 was Green and flashing. I unplugged the patch cord and it turned to down, i replugged it, got up but still no routing at all. I had to issued shut/no shut on fe4 to resolve the issue. One day later it happend to the other 881.

Cisco Wireless :: AP541n Losing Connection To Management Interface

Nov 1, 2010

I have a client with an AP541n, most recent firmware installed.  When he logs into the management interface (via IP using Google Chrome browser), it will work for a few minutes and then just disappear.   If he attempts to reload the page he gets a message similar to a website being down (page cannot be displayed).  The idle timeout has been extended to 4 hours, but this can happen at any point while logged into the interface.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Losing Connection With Etherchannel

Jun 20, 2012

We have a new building where we added 3 network closets with 3750x stacks. We have 2 fiber gig ports connected to 2 microwave units and etherchanneled the to ports

We have the same setup at the corporate office except the connection is 2 fiber gig ports on a 6509. The 6509 is doing the routing

Now the problem is that we lost the connection to the management interface on only one of the three closets after a few days running. But some workstations at the corp office could reach it... others could not. The workstation were on the same VLAN. We solved the problem for a few days by shutting on of the fiber ports on the etherchannel. But is started happening again... now with PCs being installed at the new location.

The PC that was not working on the 3750x side could ping across to the 6509 but no further then that. It seems like an arp issue not routing because some devices are reachable and fully operational throughout the network.

Here is the configuration:

3750x:Cisco IOS Software, Version 12.2(55)SE1
Current configuration : 118 bytes!interface Port-channel1switchport trunk encapsulation dot1qswitchport mode trunkno snmp trap link-statusend

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1721 / Change Remote Site Network Configuration With / Without Losing Connection?

Sep 19, 2012

My company just assumed management of a remote entity.  The network has several misconfigurations and I need to make some network modifications from my office w/o losing access or incurring lengthy outage to the clients.  The network consists of 1721 router and  three 2960 switches.

- I only have access to the router from the Internet.  I telnet off the router to the 3 switches.

The site uses a single class C 192.168.1.0 / 24.  The router is running RIPv2 even though this is the only network.  The prior network person (contractor) set up separate native vlans on each switch and all the ports are defined as Native trunk and access are defined to the VLAN interface  assigned to the switch.  So of course the logs are flooded with Native VLAN mismatch,  Each 2960 switch is a VTP server but has no VTP domain.

basic network layout:

Internet  => Eth [Cisco 1721] => Fa 0 192.168.1.254  ==> [SW1]
 [SW1]
 interface Vlan1
no ip address
no ip route-cache!interface Vlan220ip address 192.168.1.219 255.255.255.0no ip route-cache

[code]....

!interface GigabitEthernet0/1description SW2 Gi0/1switchport access vlan 204switchport trunk native vlan 204!interface GigabitEthernet0/2switchport access vlan 204switchport trunk native vlan 204!interface Vlan1no ip addressno ip route-cache!interface Vlan204ip address 192.168.1.224 255.255.255.0no ip route-cache Normally, I would assign the current 192.168.1.254 to a subinterface to Router Fe 0/0 but with each switch having its own native VLAN I am afraid I will lose connectivity to the downstream switches -- my only access is telnet off the Cisco1721 Router.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750E / Applying ACLs When Routing Between SVI And Routed Interface?

Mar 12, 2013

Quick question here. Using 3750E series switches with multiple VLANS configured. These switches serve as our 'core'. I have SVIs configured for the different VLANs and add inbound ACLs in each of the SVIs to control traffic between VLANS. This switch also terminates a P2P Ethernet link which connects to our Colo facility. The port used for this is configured as an L3 port. I noticed today that I was able to send traffic across this L3 link that I thought should have been blocked by an ACL I had in place but it wasn't. So the traffic flowed from a port in say VLAN 20 across this L3 link (assigned with an IP address). Would this traffic flow not cause traffic to be checked against an ACL applied in the inbound direction on the SVI of VLAN 20 (int vlan 20)? Traffic does get checked when routing between SVIs. Why would it not get checked when routing between SVI and L3 interface?

For example, Port 0/3 on Switch 1 and 0/8 on Switch 2, but keeping the ip of the "old" vlan? Or is it necessary to configure a specified vlan interface with ip-adress for every vlan if i want to route it?

Cisco VPN :: PIX 525 Routing To Wrong Interface?

May 2, 2011

PIX 525 6.3(4)120

I am trying to allow clients coming in from my "DMZ6"  interface with source IPs from the subnet 192.168.2.0 /24 to ping and  access hosts on my "DMZ1" interface with destination IPs in the subnet  10.5.11.0 /24. I think I have the associated static NATs and the ACLs  set up to allow this to happen. What I have noticed from syslog messages  is that the PIX is trying to build the TCP connection to the "Inside"  interface, rather than to DMZ1. Even though the destination host  (10.5.11.12) is directly connected on DMZ1, the PIX is still trying to  send the traffic to the "Inside" instead. I tried adding a host route to  force 10.5.11.12 /32 pointing to DMZ1 and the PIX still tries to send  the packets Inside. This only seems to happen when I try to go from DMZ6  to DMZ1. If I try to access hosts located in DMZ3 for example, which is  also a directly connected interface on the PIX, it appropriately builds  the connection to DMZ3. Here are the pertinent rules. Why would the PIX want to build the connection to the Inside,  even though it knows that the destination host IP is directly connected  to DMZ1?

ip address DMZ1 10.5.11.1 255.255.255.0
ip address DMZ6 10.5.16.1 255.255.255.0
ip address inside 10.5.18.17 255.255.255.240

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 4404 AP Not Routing Via Second Interface

Aug 20, 2012

WLC4404 - United States
Software Version 5.2.193.0

where the new WLAN dosn't seem to be routing... but it's not related to name length (ours only 6 charecters). It's almost seems like the new WLC interface (interface2) isn't configured for the same subnet that it's plugged into, but it is.We actually have 2 WLANS. Alot of the original config was done before my time, between about 3 different people. The original WLAN config works fine, but part of the problem is the WLC4404 was configured our server VLAN, thus when a client gets an IP, they are placed on our main server VLAN. Our WLC4404 is connected to our 6509 in our Datacenter, and we have dozens of PTP T1's to our remote offices, which all have WAPs.On the WLC4404, I've configured a new interface on port 2, vlan404, and I have the new WLAN using that interface. The WLAN security is using WPA2, and authenticates via our ActiveDirector services, as well as handing out DHCP from our Windows DHCP server.

The client wireless PC is able to connect to the WAP, but unable to connect to anything else. It can only ping the WLC4404 interface2 address, and nothing else. It does receieve DHCP info (via WLC via Windows DHCP server), but cannot see DHCP server. From the WLC4404: I can telnet into the management IP address, and can ping PC's on the new WLAN, and anyplace else, except the vlan gateway ip address on the 6509.From the 6509: when telnetted in, I can ping everything except interface2 of WLC on vlan404 and the wireless PC using the new WLAN. I am able to ping the ip address of int for vlan404. The 6509 somewhat see's the WLC int2 & wireless PC. Show ARP | inc 404 from the 6509 shows the IP's of the VLAN int, WLC int2, and wireless PC.  Show mac-add-tab | inc 404 shows the WLC and wireless PC on same 6509 port. From my work PC (via LAN) at a remote location: I can ping everything except Int2 on the WLC, and the wireless PC.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Interface Counters On 881

May 15, 2012

I notice strange input rates on the interfaces of a 881 router:

show int fa4
..
  MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit/sec, DLY 100 usec
..
  30 second input rate 85000 bits/sec, 11 packets/sec
  30 second output rate 16000 bits/sec, 9 packets/sec
     221434 packets input, 287889736 bytes
..
..
   142286 packets output, 15683576 bytes, 0 underrun

How can 11 packets/sec be 85000 bits/sec -- average packet size of 8KB?. The total packets input (221434 packets versus 287+ MB) also shows this kind of a 10KB+ average packet size.  There is ahardly any traffic through the router when the above snapshot was taken so 11 packets/sec sounds right, but not the 85Kbits/sec.

The router is running c880data-universalk9-mz.151-4.M4.bin and config is simple with a single Vlan (inside NAT) with a public IPs on fa4 and a couple of IPs for dynamic NAT. Everything works fine except for these interface counters that look worng.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SG 200-26P Cannot Access Web Interface From Different Subnet

May 24, 2012

Got a shiny new SG 200 26P which seems to work fine operationally.owever, when I am trying to access the web interface from a different IP subnet, the web brower just times out.If I put my PC on the same IP subnet, it works just fine. From the other subnet, I can ping the switch fine. The default gateway is set on the switch, and from the web interface I can ping and dns resolve other hosts and on the internet. I've tried to create a management profile to 'allow all from everywhere' basically, but still no luck.I'm completely stumped.  I've tried to reset to firmware defaults, and I'm now runinng the latest firmware. I woudl suppose that the switch would allow itself to be managed via the web interface from all subnets by default. Any thoughts?  The fact that the switch can ping internet hosts makes be believe it's own default gateway and IP are all ok and working.. (and I can ping it from anywhere in my network).
