I am a recent student to Cisco products and I have purchased some (what I thought was good) lab equipment to learn with on a budget. What I have is a 2948G switch and a 2620 router. My issue is this: the router has only one fast Ethernet port. Is it possible to use V LAN's and V LAN Interfaces on the router and switch to somehow emulate a second interface to connect to a WAN or sub net?
View 11 RepliesI finally decided to get my own home lab so that I can configure to my hearts' content and not have to wait for access at the school to do it. I have three 2620 routers inter-connected with wic2t cards, and five 2950 switches. I have already set the config reg. on the routers to 0x2102 so that I can save my configs when I power down. When I pulled up the config regs on the switches, they all had 0xf as the reg number. Is this a good config reg number to have if I want to save the config before I power down?
Also, what would be a good ios version to have running on the switches and also the routers? I have access to other cisco IOS' but I want to double check. With this setup I would practice bgp, ppp, frame relay, rip2, ospf,eigrp, stp, pvst,pvst+, Rapid pvst+, rstp, and mstp.
Does 2650 and 2620 support MPLS ? If yes what IOS version should i download?

I read that this card is compatible with this model router, but I have also notice that there is a version 2 of this card. Have I ordered the wrong card or do I possibly have a defective card? My ISO version is 12.2(26) on the router.If this card is not compatible, what is the recommended card for adding an additional ethernet port on this router?

My configuration is the following
Router ISP >>> Switch 2940 >>> Router 2620 >>> Host (Tacking dhcp from my 2620)
I got servers and other switches 2950 working perfect from the 2940....but the 2620 or even a Switch 3550 (in router L3 port), has the same issue...do not share connection with Host's behind them, I got IP on the host, pinging the Fa0/1 (dhcp), pinging the Fa0/0, but cannot ping the GATEWAY and not surf the internet.
I am new to Cisco networking (I just passed my A+ test and am working on my Network + test with an end goal to finish with a CCNP) and I bought a Cisco 2620 XM and a 1605R to figure out how to setup and practice on. In my house we have Verizon Fios with the standard Verizon appliance feeding internet to the rest of the house. My question is that will my Cisco appliances be usable with an out connection from the Verizon appliance? I am concerned because the connection that comes into my room from the Verizon router would be considered a LAN connection, not a WAN? Also in order to configure the router, I believe it needs an RJ-45 to serial to plug into a computer for setting up. My computer doesn't have a serial port so will an RJ-45 to USB work (since that is serial as well)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a lab setup to take my CCNA and CCNP and I'm having issues trying to get WAN connectivity back to a switch at the end of my network. My lab environment consists of 1 - 2950 switch, 1 - 2620 and 1 - 2621XM. I have 1 Ethernet connection from each router to the switch and 1 serial connection from the 2620 to the 2621XM. I have the serial interfaces in a shutdown state right now so there is no loop since I do not have Spanning tree setup on the ports on the switch yet.
Right now using the fast ethernet ports on the routers and I have no issues its when I shut down those Ethernet ports and try using the serial interfaces when I start having issues. So my network layout is Ethernet from switch port f0/4 to port f0/0 on 2620 and serial from s0/1 on the 2620 to s0/2 on the 2621XM. My 2621XM f0/1 is whats connected to the WAN and I have no issues getting to the WAN from my 2621Xm or my 2620 but when I try pinging any website or even my WAN default gateway from my switch I get nothing!
Ive also noticed that when I do a IP NAT translation (after accessing the WAN from my 2620) on my 2621XM the source IP is of my serial connection not the ip of my 2620 router? I have my default gateway on the 2620 as the the IP of my serial interface on the 2621XM and vice versa because my LAN network is 172.16.1.0 and my WAN is 172.16.9.0. I have a /31 setup between my serial connections 172.16.11.0 (s0/1) is on the 2620 and 172.16.11.1(s0/2) is on the 2621XM. I used the SDM (ver 2.5) to setup NAT to have f0/1 with Nat outside and s0/2 as Nat inside. Encapsulation is HDLC between the serial links. Ive attached the running configs of the switch and routers.

My question is that cisco website says there are two type of cable connections for this type of config --which are --T1 CSU/DSU ConfigurationSet one CSU/DSU to clock source internal, and the other CSU/DSU to clock source line. The linecode, framing, data-coding, and timeslots must be set the same on both CSU/DSUs.Four-Wire 56k CSU/DSU Configuration For my network connection which type of config i should use??Secondly i try to connect these ports by normal crossover cable it did not work.So for this type of connection i know i need T1 cross over cable-- which has RJ 48 connections at both sides.I check cable from ebay which is RJ45 RJ48 cross over -- will this cable work in my router to router connection.
Quick question here. Using 3750E series switches with multiple VLANS configured. These switches serve as our 'core'. I have SVIs configured for the different VLANs and add inbound ACLs in each of the SVIs to control traffic between VLANS. This switch also terminates a P2P Ethernet link which connects to our Colo facility. The port used for this is configured as an L3 port. I noticed today that I was able to send traffic across this L3 link that I thought should have been blocked by an ACL I had in place but it wasn't. So the traffic flowed from a port in say VLAN 20 across this L3 link (assigned with an IP address). Would this traffic flow not cause traffic to be checked against an ACL applied in the inbound direction on the SVI of VLAN 20 (int vlan 20)? Traffic does get checked when routing between SVIs. Why would it not get checked when routing between SVI and L3 interface?

[code] So can we put some ports on different switches in, let`s say vlan 50, with different ips? For example, Port 0/3 on Switch 1 and 0/8 on Switch 2, but keeping the ip of the "old" vlan? Or is it necessary to configure a specified vlan interface with ip-adress for every vlan if i want to route it?

I had this setup and working and I have another set of equirement that I am replacing that is working with my service provider so I know it is a configuration issue. I am trying to convince our Technical Lead that dual VSL links between our 6509-E chassis is a VERY good idea but he is fully convinced that the setup will work perfectly fine with only one VSL link. As I do agree that we can do this, I am looking for more concrete evidence that shows this would be a bad setup.
I know that we will lose the High Availably that comes with VSS, what I don't know is what will happen to all of the downstream switches that are connected and what will happen to the two 6509-E chassis..
I got a different scenario from one of my client.My client have two different branch offices and have 50Mbps point to point connectivity between them. All users in both braches using same series of IP pool ( 192.168.224.0/24) in both branches.Both branches he had only Cisco 2960S series switches only. And in both branches he is using IP cameras. He will monitor the assets by accessing IP cameras through the browser.His requirement is, he wants to prioritize the Video traffic( monitoring through the browser) over the normal data traffic.Note: He had a single VLAN only.

I don't see any recommendation in the documentation. The data sheet indicates a single switch is a non-blocking device so I'd think there's no bandwidth advantage like there is when connecting an actual multi-switch stack and needing to close the loop for the full 32 Gbps stack bandwidth.
I have a customer with three rooms where teh access layer aggregation switches are run back to.
Access Switch Stack A -> room 1 + room 2
Access Switch Stack B -> room 2 + room 3
Is it possible to have three Nexus 7000s ie one in each room (1,2 and 3) and have them setup like this:
Nexus 7000#1 vPC domain 1
Nexus 7000#2 vPC domain 1 + vPC domain 2
Nexus 7000#3 vPC domain 2
Thus gving all access switch stacks redundant links to the core withouit spanning tree.
I know its not ideal but its a campus site and thats how the existing fibre runs go.

Here, due to IP address exhaustion in my end-user network, i want to add one more subnet X.X.X.X/22 to my network and assign one IP more from this range to the above vlan to act as the gateway IP.
I have been asked to upgrade the IOS images on three 4506 switches with a single Supervisor IV engine in each to allow for SSH2 access.The current image is cat4000-i5s-mz.122-25.EWA.bin..I have uploaded cat4000-i5k91s-mz.122-25.EWA14.bin to bootflash on each Supervisor engine.The ROM on each SUP IV is 12.1(20r). I don't want to have to upgrade the ROM version.Will the cat4000-i5k91s-mz.122-25.EWA14.bin image retain all the current features of the current image and provide SSH2 support, without requiring a ROM upgrade?Each switch has 512 Mb of RAM.If this image will accomplish what I want, what are the commands used to select the new image from bootflash. I'm familiar with image updates on fixed chassis switches using the boot system flash command.

We have a Cisco 2911 router in our company. I didn't set it up myself nor I was involved. I only started working here recently, bit over 3 months ago. I have been given ongoing task which other IT Technicians been struggling for almost a year with a idea that maybe because I'm fresh person in the company I will find a original idea why could this thing not work.
Our router have a problem with blocking a single IP address, but not completely It's hard to explain but I will try my best. Company is hosting their website externally and accessing the host and FTP on the host on daily bases. It is important for the website to work on the internal network in company. It does work sometimes, but from time-to-time the website showing time-out error 118 on any point before Cisco router using both http and https, have tried putting just the IP address( doesn't matter is it on the general network or last ISA server on DMZ ). I am able to connect to the website using any of proxy gates but not directly to the website. I have also tested the connection past the router and I was able to connect to the website without any problems. I am also able to ping the host's address from the router and internal network.
I have eliminated the possibility of not correctly setup proxy or firewall on the network as problem also occur on the DMZ. I have also checked access-lists on the router and firewall rules for Any possibilities and I can't really see a way why would the router do this.
I have a new building to add to our campus and I have been encouraged to run single mode fiber. All of my other buildings are connected with multi-mode fiber. I just want to make sure i will not have an issue if I run single mode to the new building with SM SFP's.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNexus infrastructure is pair of N7K switches, with dual homed 5K/2K devices connected, links use vPC. They want to extend vlan's from the 5K/2K side across a L2 path into another DC, this path is only connected into one of the N7K switches, call this 7K switch A.I'm concerned that packets from the 5K/2K side back to the remote DC could get dropped due to the vPC loop dectection process. If a packet from the 5K/2K side traverses the path into the same N7K (7K switch A) as the L2 extension, I dont see a problem. But, if the etherchannel load balance in the 5K sends traffic to the packet to N7K B, in order to get to the L2 path extension to the remote DC the packet gets forwarded across the vPC. My understanding is that this packet will get dropped by N7K A as its local L2 path to the remote DC is up, is this the case?I see a solution is to plug the L2 path into a 2K, but before I suggest this is my understanding of the loop detection process correct?

I understand that i will need to clear the arp & maybe mac address table on the 6500 for the new active server to work, as the failed server will have its mac address on the 6500,.
is there a way around this so i dont have to clear the arp cache & clear the mac table? [code]
Having a strange issue here with an 7606-s chassis equipped with two sup720's, and two regular line cards. There is only one power supply, PWR-2700-AC. I recently builded this setup and powered it on last week for the first time. It ran fine for about 20 minutes while suddenly the chassis powered down.
I've checked the back of the chassis and noticed that the power supply had it's 'input ok' and 'power fail' led lit. I toggled the power switch and waited half an hour to power it on again. This time only 1 minute of joy. My first idea was the PSU due to the power fail led so I had it swapped by the supplier for another. Unfortunately, when I powered it on today, it didn't change a thing, still unexpected power downs.
So I've checked the following documentation: [URL] and followed the suggestion to power the chassis on without any modules in the slots. So I did that and it ran for 8 minutes only. However, the fan tray did respond properly when I removed the small thermal module in the upper right by increasing the fans to full speed.
Following above documentation, it points to the chassis (there is not much left). Now the real question comes, isn't there anything else that could be the cause of this?
