I am a recent student to Cisco products and I have purchased some (what I thought was good) lab equipment to learn with on a budget. What I have is a 2948G switch and a 2620 router. My issue is this: the router has only one fast Ethernet port. Is it possible to use V LAN's and V LAN Interfaces on the router and switch to somehow emulate a second interface to connect to a WAN or sub net?

I finally decided to get my own home lab so that I can configure to my hearts' content and not have to wait for access at the school to do it. I have three 2620 routers inter-connected with wic2t cards, and five 2950 switches. I have already set the config reg. on the routers to 0x2102 so that I can save my configs when I power down. When I pulled up the config regs on the switches, they all had 0xf as the reg number. Is this a good config reg number to have if I want to save the config before I power down?

Also, what would be a good ios version to have running on the switches and also the routers? I have access to other cisco IOS' but I want to double check. With this setup I would practice bgp, ppp, frame relay, rip2, ospf,eigrp, stp, pvst,pvst+, Rapid pvst+, rstp, and mstp.

I am attempting to add an additional ethernet port on a Cisco 2620 router using a NM-2FE2W card, however the card is not being detected.  I read that this card is compatible with this model router, but I have also notice that there is a version 2 of this card.  Have I ordered the wrong card or do I possibly have a defective card?  My ISO version is 12.2(26) on the router.If this card is not compatible, what is the recommended card for adding an additional ethernet port on this router?

I am trying to create a backup of my 2620 router so I can use for GNS3.
 
I have only configured the IP address on my FastEthernet port. Having many issues with no connection to my pc, finally I found that you must enable the interface 'no shutdown'. Now I have a valid connection
 
I have made no other configurations on this router, everything else is default.
 
I can successfully PING from both ends
 
**PROBLEM: My problem is that when trying to 'copy flash' to my TFTP server, the response is**

Is there another setting I should enable? Remember I have made no other configurations bar the ones above.

My configuration is the following
 
Router ISP >>> Switch 2940 >>> Router 2620 >>> Host (Tacking dhcp from my 2620)
 
I got servers and other switches 2950 working perfect from the 2940....but the 2620 or even a Switch 3550 (in router L3 port), has the same issue...do not share connection with Host's behind them, I got IP on the host, pinging the Fa0/1 (dhcp), pinging the Fa0/0, but cannot ping the GATEWAY and not surf the internet.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2620 XM / 1605 R - Compatibility With Verizon Appliance

I am new to Cisco networking (I just passed my A+ test and am working on my Network + test with an end goal to finish with a CCNP) and I bought a Cisco 2620 XM and a 1605R to figure out how to setup and practice on.   In my house we have Verizon Fios with the standard Verizon appliance feeding internet to the rest of the house.  My question is that will my Cisco appliances be usable with an out connection from the Verizon appliance?  I am concerned because the connection that comes into my room from the Verizon router would be considered a LAN connection, not a WAN?  Also in order to configure the router, I believe it needs an RJ-45 to serial to plug into a computer for setting up.  My computer doesn't have a serial port so will an RJ-45 to USB work (since that is serial as well)?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 / 2620 / 2621 - How To Get WAN Connectivity Back To Switch At End Of Network

I have a lab setup to take my CCNA and CCNP and I'm having issues trying to get WAN connectivity back to a switch at the end of my network.  My lab environment consists of 1 - 2950 switch, 1 - 2620 and 1 - 2621XM.  I have 1 Ethernet connection from each router to the switch and 1 serial connection from the 2620 to the 2621XM.  I have the serial interfaces in a shutdown state right now so there is no loop since I do not have Spanning tree setup on the ports on the switch yet. 

Right now using the fast ethernet ports on the routers and I have no issues its when I shut down those Ethernet ports and try using the serial interfaces when I start having issues.  So my network layout is Ethernet from switch port f0/4 to port f0/0 on 2620 and serial from s0/1 on the 2620 to s0/2 on the 2621XM. My 2621XM f0/1 is whats connected to the WAN and I have no issues getting to the WAN from my 2621Xm or my 2620 but when I try pinging any website or even my WAN default gateway from my switch I get nothing! 

Ive also noticed that when I do a IP NAT translation (after accessing the WAN from my 2620) on my 2621XM the source IP is of my serial connection not the ip of my 2620  router?  I have my default gateway on the 2620 as the the IP of my serial interface on the 2621XM and vice versa because my LAN network is 172.16.1.0 and my WAN is 172.16.9.0.  I have a /31 setup between my serial connections 172.16.11.0 (s0/1) is on the 2620 and 172.16.11.1(s0/2) is on the 2621XM.  I used the SDM (ver 2.5) to setup NAT to have f0/1 with Nat outside and s0/2 as Nat inside.  Encapsulation is HDLC between the serial links. Ive attached the running configs of the switch and routers.

I have 2650XM  router and 2620 Router Both routers have built in WIC  T1 CSU/DSU cards

My question is that cisco website says there are two type of cable connections for this type of config --which are  --T1 CSU/DSU ConfigurationSet one CSU/DSU to clock source internal, and the other CSU/DSU to clock source line. The linecode, framing, data-coding, and timeslots must be set the same on both CSU/DSUs.Four-Wire 56k CSU/DSU Configuration For my network connection which type of config i should use??Secondly i try to connect these ports by normal crossover cable  it did not work.So for this type of connection i know i need T1 cross over cable--  which has RJ 48 connections at both sides.I check cable from ebay which is RJ45 RJ48 cross over  --  will this cable work in my router to router connection.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: MC9090 - Wireless Not Connecting Through MPLS?

I have two Motorola MC9090's that will no longer connect through my MPLS back to coperate.  They both stopped working at the exact same time yesterday.
 
They connect to a Cisco WAP321 that is connected to a Catylist 3750 that is connected to a Cisco 1921.
 
Each device can ping anything on that network. Both the switch and the router can ping the devices.
 
But if I try to ping a device on the coperate network the devices timeout.
 
The PC's connected to the switch via CAT5 have no issues connecting back to coperate (RDP to server)

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 5510 / 2811 - MPLS Options At Company HQ

I've studied and labeled out MPLS and MPLS VPNs several times.  The situation I'm presented with is a little different from most of the case studies I've seen in my MPLS books.  I've attached a diagram.
 
We have a IPsec site to site tunnel from our main HQ router to a Cisco ASA 5510 in the core network in the colo.  This allows our HQ office to reach the private sub nets in our core without using a Cisco VPN client.  The problem we are running into is that this seems to be putting undue strain on the Cisco 2811.  I feel like the 2811 should be able to handle it but doing any kind of upload or download through the tunnel spikes the CPU/Interrupts and makes the router CLI basically stop responding until the traffic transfer is stopped or completed.  During this time, certain Cisco SCCP phones on our Broad works platform cycle while the SIP phones on the same platform are OK.  We are trying to alleviate the load on the 2811 by setting up a VRF from the HQ network to the private VRF used in the Core for private sub net communication.  The problem I'm having is the the HQ also has some public traffic that I do not want to include in the VRFs and would like to have it travel through the P2P circuit we have and access the internet or other public devices through the core public IP Internet routing table. 
 
The flow would be this:
-going to a public address use the public internet routing table
-going to private address in the 10.x.x.x or 172.x.x.x - use VRF to core Private network.
 
This is a little different of a set up from most of the VRF VPN examples I've seen.  Most of those the CE devices is completely private.  This is not the case at our HQ.

I need to confirm internet access from remote network through MPLS cloud to another site. Let me explain. We have a MPLS network with Wind stream as listed in the visio drawing; site 1 has internet access through the Time-Warner cloud for all users. Site2 has internet access through the Wind stream MPLS router. Site three has no internet access, and only has LAN access layer2 through Windstream routers to Site1 for networks 192.168.0.0/24, 10.1.1.x/24. My question is can we give everyone at Site 3 internet access through the MPLS network down into Site 1 using the Time-Warner ISP cloud.
 
I placed routes on the Site 3 3750 stack IP route 192.168.50.x 255.255.255.0 to the interface of the MPLS router at site3, then at site 1 we have IP route 192.168.50.x 255.255.255.0 to the MPLS interface, and able to ping all anything on the 192.168.50.0 network. I added the IP route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.50.x the MPLS router interface, we do not have internet access at Site 3 using Site 1 network.
 
I confirmed at Site 1 from the Cisco 3750 switch we can ping 4.2.2.2 = Google. How to confirm this will work and what’s required to complete this connection to give everyone at site 3 internet access through Site 1 Time-Warner.

I thought I saw a post/question in regards to "how to" configure a Broadband backup for a MPLS circuit..  What I am trying to do is use a cable/dsl/ broadband (secondary) connection as a backup to a MPLS circuit (primary).  I have EIGRP and BGP configured on both the branch endpoint and the tunnel headend.  The tunnel is used by the interface that connects to the secondary circuit.  The branch location router is a 1841 and the "headend" tunnel router is a 3825.  I am wondering about the configuration/syntax of a "weight" or static route that can be used to have data flow over the tunnel when the MPLS circuit goes down - and then switch back to the MPLS circuit when it comes back on line.

We are about to install a new network consisting of Cat 4500s with Sup7E at the Access Layer, with Nexus 7000 at the Distribution and Core layers. We have 14 floors with at least three 4500s on each floor. Within the office block where the Access Layer and Distribution Layer reside we need to support secure borderless networking using 802.1x to place users from different parts of the business into segregated networks at layer 3.All switches will have the feature sets to support MPLS/ VRF / OSPF / EIGRP / BGP etc.We quickly dismissed the idea of using VRF-Lite due to the sheer number of Vlans we would need to managage and maintain,  the point to point links alone just to get one additional VRF on each floor required far too many Vlans.As a result we are now considering deploying MPLS. The obvious benefits include scalability and manageability, the fact that all switch to switch links can now be routed, instead of having to using SVIs.

I have 2 cisco 1941/K9 vpn router. I have configured both with LAN ip address given by our vpn provider which is 172.10.10.1 and the other is 172.10.20.1. Both IP addresses are configured to GigabitEthernet port 0/0 on both routers.
 
1. Is it possible to configure our own set of ip address like 10.71.10.1 and 10.71.50.1 on the GE 0/0 port?

2. Or can we configure our own set of ip addresses (10.71.10.1 and 10.71.50.1) to GigabitEthernet port 0/1 and maintain the other ip addresses on port 0/0?
 
The first purpose is to have our own set of ip addresses for LAN connection and I will be able to connect or telnet whichever ip address or port is up.

Does the 4500 support VSS (Virtual Switching System) ? On the official product overview page it says: 1.6 Terabits capacity with Virtual Switching System (hardware-ready)What means Hardware ready ? Does it mean that it supports VSS in the same manner as the 6500 ? The reason I'm asking this question is that I didn't find any info on the Internet about this. We would like to upgrade our network by interconnecting the 2 sites with Layer 2 redundant links (Layer 2 extension), but I'd like to use the both links in a load-balancing manner, which can be a real pain in the *** with STP. The choice is between 4500 and 3750 stackable  core switches. The 6500s are very expensive.
