I have a number of Cisco 1801 routers connected to BT UK’s ADSL2+ Annex-A Wholesale Broadband Connect [WBC] services. The routers are experiencing connectivity issues. There is a cisco product bulletin that defines v4.0.0.18 as the version of ADSL Firmware required on the Cisco 1801 when connecting to this BT service.I would like to upgrade the ADSL Firmware for these routers but I cannot find v4.0.0.18 for the Cisco 1801 on CCO. All the 4.0.0.18 downloads appear to be for various flavours of 800. The Cisco product bulletin shows the 1801 as having the same chipset as the 857,867,877 and 887. Can I use the Firmware from one these 800 models? The MD5 Hash for the code suggests all of the these 800 model use the same code?

I have already updated to firmware 4.018, in some cases it has resolved the issue in others it has not, BT say their lines are ok, but still i keep getting issues.

we have a Cisco 1801 at one of our remote sites that uses an ADSL line for it's primary connection and ISDN as backup. Despite no apparent problems with the ADSL line the ISDN is repeatedly dialling the internet every 2-3 mins during office hours and considerable expense to the customer.

I have cisco 1801W . Earlier I am using ADSL dynamic IP address on RJ 11 through the ADSL Port but now the ISP change the connection to RJ45.
I am trying to configure it but unable to do this. ADSL line is okay because When I am connecting through the ISP router it is working fine. I have connected the ADSL RJ45 cable in the router fast ethernet 0.But I wanted to use Cisco 1801 Router so that I can use the ADSL as primary and ISDN as the backup.
Below is my configuration, eiteher this is possible to configure ADSL through RJ45 in 1801 and what configuration require for this.

The "no retrain. sleep 20 seconds" messages continue forever more until somebody power-cycles the router - which is a bit inconvenient as two are 300 miles away. Surprisingly, our event manager applet isn't triggering the reload either, which defeats the object.

Each site also have Internet connection using ADSL connected to firewall, we are using pix 501 and ASA 5510.My question is, can i use the existing ADSL line to be use as a backup line if the leased line is down on any of the site??
And i want it to trigger itself, once the leased line is down, the firewall UP the backup line? something like that..

Is there a way to find in a remote branch the adsl line number in a cisco router 886VA.
When giving show controllers vdsl 0
we can see the upload/download speed but there is no information about the line number. We need this information in order to troubleshoot adsl line problems with our ISP's in remote branch offices.

I do have a question, is WIC-1SHDSL-V3 able to support ADSL line?
We have WIC-1SHDSL-V3 module used for SDSL line, due to few site need to bring up with ADSL line with 1841 model, but HWIC-1ADSL module already EOS. The replacement model EHWIC-VA-DSL-A is not compatible to 1841. My architect suggest Symmetric Module like WIC-1SHDSL-V3 could be able to tweak the config to support Asymmetric purpose. I did google but do not found such related topic. Can any expert on this area to advice me?

Our church has 1 phone line, we run BTBusiness Broadband at one of the building where we have a couple of charities based. We have the phone line connected to an extension at the other end (where the Church is) >80m away. Any way of running a second concurrent router on the extension so I can set up an office with a VOIP number, pC's printers etc there too? We use Devolo ethernet over mains and wireless for the main building, but the church itself is on a completely seperate mains power supply so I can't use that. I could run 100m Cat 5 and locate a switch on that, but any way of achieving something similar over the phone cable which is already in place.

I have a broadband router (Linksys E1000) which I've flashed with a DD-WRT firmware. After doing so I realized that this router doesn't have an interface for ADSL port(RJ-11). How can I use the Linksys E1000 for my home network?
I've heard that I can use ADSL modem(not a router) & plug the RJ-11 to it & take from it the Ethernet & plug it back to the E1000(in the WAN port) would that mean that I can get just a modem and not a hybrid?
Note: Also, I have to mention that my ISP is using PPPoA & DD-WRT is not supporting it, but i googled & they said that the ADSL modem cab be the rescue. Can I pick any ADSL modem for this specific scenario or am I looking at a specific model?
Secondly, can I use my old router to do the job instead of buying a new ADSL modem ? & is it a good approach ? or should i buy a new ADSL modem ?
Update i turned my DD-WRT router(E1000) to act as access point, since this is the only way that i can use it with the DD-WRT feature. & i think this is better than have nothing :) I can now have the DD-WRT functions ;)

I have configured it properly (based on internet provider's manual), repeatedly checked it, but router still says that ADSL line is down. I have also another router from Zyxel and it works perfect with same wire and configuration, so I guess the line is fine.

Is the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.
Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?

On my old router I could access the line stats on the home page giving me Attenuation and SNR margin, this allowed me to keep an eye on line quality, there seems to be no equivalent info on the X2000. Is this on a hidden page like the advanced wireless page.

Within a property without an available adsl line I'm simply trying to network a wireless laptop with a wireless printer. Both devices recognise the router, etc, but problem sending file for printing to the printer. (laptop does not detect printer). Is the lack of an internet connection the issue or simply a configuration issue?

We have a remote site connected to ADSL line with a Cisco 887VA router attached. This has been working fine for the last couple of months. However, recently, the site have started to complain of performance issues (network slow, applications disconnecting, etc)Looking on the router, we can see evidence of packet loss/timeouts from a simple ping to the internet e.g. [code]
However, we have logged the fault with our service provider and they return all line tests as clear but what is particularly strange is that they also report “and the SNR Margins are well within threshold levels (Upstream 11.5 and Downstream 15.0)” which, unless I’m misunderstanding something, seems to be completely different from what the router itself is reporting. Is there a reason why the service provider’s stats for Noise Margin would appear to be so different from what the router is reporting?

I've moved a Cisco 887 router from a site where it was used to dial up on an ADSL line to a new site where we have a EFM circuit which terminates at a Cisco 1841 router managed by our ISP. I therefore need to re-configure our 887 router to work as a conduit from our servers back to the Cisco 1841 as its gateway.
I have asked from our ISP and they told me that i need to configure the 887 to use IP address 176.35.140.65 255.255.255.248 and its gateway should be 176.35.140.70. That's great advice in theory but I don't know how to configure this correctly
Our internal network is using subnet 192.168.42.XX which will need to be retained for local devices.

We will don't have a branch office or some thing like that. I preffered to have high speed internet in our office. I found in some website that Lease line will have high speed connectivity(Upto 10Gbps). Can i use the lease line or DSL is enough for our office. Our office contains of 82 user who will use internet.

I'm trying to set up an 1801 router with two WAN interfaces, fastethernet0 and fastethernet1. On the LAN side, I have two subnets. One subnet's internet traffic should be routed over fastethernet0, the other over fastethernet1.I've setup some route maps to accomplish this. I can surf the internet using subnet 192.168.2.0/24 fine, all traffic goes out of fastethernet0. However, and this is where the problem is, if I try to reach the internet using subnet 192.168.3.0/24, all packets go out interface fastethernet0 with the source address of fastethernet1!When I'm surfing the internet, from subnet 192.168.3.0/24, packets should be going out fastethernet1, now they're going out fastethernet0.

I have two offices - see attached diagram. They use 192.168.0.0/16 for private IP addreses. They're connected via site-to-site VPN. Mostly works well, except some traffic doesn't return and I think it's due to NAT?When a workstation in remote office tries to access web servers in the local office which using private IP addresses (e.g. .64.40), traffic never returns. The web servers in question are also accessible publically - the Cisco 1801 in local office has a static route:
Local1801# ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.64.40 80 111.111.111.2 80 extendable
The problem seems to be with the local 1801 router. tcpdump confirms that return traffic exits out of ods1's external interface and tcpdump confirms that traffic does not come into remote workstation's interface (neither with .64.40 as source IP nor 111.111.111.2 as source IP)
Remote887# show ip nat translations - none.
Local1801# show ip nat translations
Pro Inside global Inside local Outside local Outside global
tcp 111.111.111.2:80 192.168.64.40:80 192.168.10.254:54990 192.168.10.254:54990
What I don't understand is why a nat translation entry is created. My understanding is that it should only happen when ip packets are sent to 111.111.111.2:80 I don't see that any packets would be sent to this IP address when accessing the site across the VPN - in fact the VPN peer address used is not this one.I cannot figure out why on earth this website cannot be accessed via private IP. I have tried clear ip nat translation * on both routers with no luck.
