Dec 27, 2010I have cisco router C1700. Interface FastEthernet0 is connected to ISP and obtain public IP and DNS via dhcp.On interface FastEthernet1 is connected private network. On router is configured dhcp pool that assigns addresses to private network connected on FastEthernet1. Is there configuration that automatically add the DNS servers from my ISP into the DHCP pool?

Im not very sure if is by CDP neighbors or Vlans that are not configured on a switch attached.I undertand that the unknown protocol drops field displayed in the above example refers to the total number of packets dropped due to unknown or unsupported types of protocol. Feb 28, 2012When I first set up the Zone based firewall I used the Wizard with a setting of "low".The issue I am now having is related to adding a new subnet on a completely different IP range. My normal network is 10.20.0.0/16 sub-netted down into /24's for each vlan.Recently I added a new VLAN with a 172.16.0.0/16 subnet. I plan to use this vlan for testing purposes. I updated NAT on the router to allow the 172.16.0.0/16 range to be NATTED.From the router I can ping anything on the 172. 16.0. 0/16 range and from a test machine in the 172.16.0.0/16 I can ping all of the 10.20.0.0/16 addresses including the router.My problem is I can not ping out onto the Internet from a 172.16.0.0/16 computer.I have checked and so far I have not been able to find any policies on the firewall saying traffic must be sourced from the 10.20.0.0/16.

Jan 15, 2013I have a cisco 871w router that I'm trying to incorporate into an existing network. I have FastEthernet4 (WAN port) plugged into an ISP device, which I don't have access to. I have the address set to use dhcp, which is successfully recognized and I see that the interface gets a valid ip address that I can ping with other computers on the same network.
Problems: I am logged into the router via the serial port and I cannot ping websites on the internet. I am able to ping sites that are hosted inside the WAN, but when I try "google.com" for instance, I see it sending out packets, but none are received. It resolves the hostname from the local DNS server, but there are no packets received.
I type into the console to set up the router. I'm missing a lot of stuff. This is what I've been able to piece together using google and the software manuals:

Jun 17, 2012I am trying to configure Nat on a clean ASA 5505, but can't get it to work. I ran the commands below. On the ASA I can ping the internet and inside vlan ip. On my laptop I can ping the ASA inside vlan ip, but I can't ping the outside vlan ip. From another network I can ping the ASA outside public ip. Is there an access-list that denies inside from accessing outside?
I am running version 8.4(3) and I erased the existing configuration.
ASA(config)# interface vlan 1
ASA(config-if)# ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0

Cisco WAN :: 1941W - Can Ping Internet From Console But Not From PC
Aug 7, 2012We let cisco professional to configure 1941w router with EHWIC-3G card. So the Gig 0/0 and wlan clients could communicate the internet over 3G.So we bought another 1941w and copied the config over to new one. Can ping from console but not from client pc. The only differents between old and new is "ip source-nat" line. New router just don't save it to running-conf. No errors also.

Cisco WAN :: Cannot Access Internet - Ping PC With 871W
Jul 23, 2012I am new to Cisco and am studying for my CCENT certification. At the moment, I am attempting to correctly configure a Cisco 871W lab router. Since I have undertaken this task, I have run into nothing but problems. First off it was finding that the previous owner had left a password on it, having to purchase a new USB to DB9 adapter to pass the "break" sequence to the router, and then resetting the router in ROM Monitor mode.
Now, I cannot seem to configure the router correctly, and am quite stumped.
My ISP is Charter (cable internet), and the home network that I am using consists of a Motorola SBV5122 Digital Voice Modem, Motorola SB6120 Cable modem, and, ideally, should also include my Cisco 871W router.
When I connect my router to the SB6120 Cable modem, the router receives an IP address via DHCP and the WAN indicator light turns on.
I have a VLAN configured on the 4 switchports of the router, and it is setep to act as a DHCP server. However, when I connect my PC to rhe router via Cat5e Crossover cable, I cannot access the internet. The router gives the PC an IP address, yet all attempts to ping the PC from the router fail. Somehow, I can connect to the router via SSH though.
Furthermore, I can ping the 127.0.0.1 loopback address from my PC, but cannot do so from the router.
how to correctly configure this router to function as intended in my network situation, however, this is proving to be seemingly unsurmountable!

Jul 6, 2012Whenever my sister uses her laptop it makes the routers ping really unstable. It usually lies between 200-1000 when she uses the laptop. When she turns it off the ping remains at 21. Our internet is 8mbps/0.7mbps. I have tried other laptops and had no problems, but her laptop and her general use makes it impossible to play an online game without lagg. She doesn't download anything, just plays some flash/java games, chats and webcam etc. I just can't understand why the ping becomes so unstable when she uses her laptop.What can I do to make the ping more stable? Any software I can install to limit how much ping she uses or something? Something I can buy to split the line between us or anything like that? Software that checks what she is doing that makes the ping unstable? She just had a few programs and chrome up and still ping was unstable. None of the other laptops in the house behaves this way nor any of the desktops. It also makes web pages load 5 times slower?

Apr 23, 2012I'm with Virgin Media and they've been pretty hopeless in resolving my problem. That being I quite often get very high ping from about 200ms-1000ms+. I haven't managed to figure out a pattern to when it happens, and it doesn't seem to matter if there's one person on the internet or 5. Sometimes it's fine, while I'm writing this it's about 25ms, but about 10mins ago it was ranging from 500ms to 1000ms. It doesn't really seem to tie in with download speed either, and I don't have the technological know how to try and fix this on my own.

Dec 12, 2011I set this up and I can ping all the gateways but never the hosts. I was hoping I could make these links between 6500's a mix of L2 and L3. Check it out. They are connected in a linear fashion R1--->R2--->R3. I can ping from R1 to R3's SVI4 gateway but I can never ping a host on that SVI4. I was hoping that I could use the port-channels between 6500's as routed links or as trunk links depending on the type of traffic....thought it would ease the migration. I suppose I could always get rid of the port-channels and just make separate L2 and L3 links between the 6500's.

1)Configured 3550 as layer 3 switch and create a default route to 192.168.2.254
2) Configured 2 static routes(for 2 vlan range traffic) and one default route to 192.168.3.254
3) ip pass through is not configured yet, still the public ip is configured at the isp router
