Deleted A Ping File Now Cannot Connect To The Internet?
Dec 30, 2011I got a trojan and removed most of it with Malware Bytes. My computer was still acting squirrely so I read that I needed to delete a ping file. I did and can no longer connect to the internet. It just sits and tries to acquire the IP address. I have reset my winsock and tried uninstalling and reinstalling my network drivers etc..

Nov 19, 2012I have a netger router/moden connected to my phone line for broadband, an ethernet cable coming out of that to a netgear switch an then a cable going from the switch to fa4 on the 861. I can ping the netgear router from the 861, however, when I connect my PC to it, I am unable to ping let alone connect to the internet, the PC is getting an IP from the 861 and I can ping the fa4 interface from the pc. I just don't understand my I can not ping the broadband router, I even added a static route to the netgear with no luck.

I can connect to both ASA 5505's from the internet, and connect to the internet FROM both 5505's, just not one to the other. I can ping the network GATEWAYS to the routers, just not the routers themselves.
Both of these machines have been configured for previous VPNs but that configuration has been removed.

Feb 17, 2013I have a laptop that works perfectly fine when plugged into a network cable, but the wifi refuses to work. It pulls an ip, and everything looks good when I run ipconfig/all, but it can't even ping the router. All other computers on the network are working fine. I've flushed dns, set static IP and DNS, uninstalled/reinstall device, updated drivers, bios, and firmware, and even created a backup image of the computer and reloaded the os using the recovery partition. The event log doesn't tell me anything, and there are no flags in the device manager. I'm at a complete and total loss. I cannot figure this one out.The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ50-142US. Vista 32bit OS. Everything was working perfectly fine before it got a virus. I ran through the standard procedures of AVG, Malwarebytes, TDSSKiller, and even resorted to Combofix, but somewhere along the line the wifi dropped off and will not come back.I even double checked the HOSTS file and IE proxy settings to ensure I wasn't crazy; although I know those should've affected the wired connect too.My last step is to either replace the wifi chip (which I don't think is the problem), or wipe it and load the os from scratch, but I don't have an oem disc since it has the recovery partition.

Aug 28, 2012My parents Windows 7 PC has suddenly stopped being able to connect to the Internet. Using the "Diagnose problem" feature in the Manage Network Interfaces panel results in a message claiming that it cannot reach the DNS server and that the connection needs to be reset. Doing so has no effect. It is connected to a DSL router via an ethernet cable.The NIC is set to dynamically receive its IP and DNS settings via DHCP which it obtains from the DSL router. Executing ipconfig from a DOS prompt shows that this is occurring as expected, with an assigned IP of 192.168.2.10. The gateway and dns are set to the IP address of the router, which is 192.168.2.1. Note that I can't even ping the router at 192.168.2.1.I also tried static settings in the available range and tried using open DNS IP addresses.
They also have a laptop which connects to the same router wirelessly using DHCP and it is working fine. Using this laptop, I can log into the router and see both it and the problem PC in the list of connected devices, each with the dynamically assigned IP addresses as seen using ipconfig on each. Unplugging the ethernet cable shows the connection status changing in the list of connected devices in the router. From the laptop, I can ping the router and running ipconfig shows that it obtains the same gateway and dns as the PC and the next available IP - 1292.168.2.11.So this leads me to believe the following:
1- The router, NIC and cat 5 ethernet cable are working fine at the hardware level.
2- The DNS settings in the router are fine, as the laptop works
Perhaps coincidentally, the same day it stopped working they received one of those bogus "This is Microsoft calling" calls claiming their PC was infected, but they had heard of the scam and hung up. Naturally, I started suspecting a virus, but a full system scan using McAffee produced nothing. If it was a DNS changing virus, would I not still be able to ping the router using the IP address?

Jan 26, 2011I reconnected my SB after letting it sit powered down for 6 minutes to lose all of its configuration and I was then able to get it to connect to Cox's provisioning site and was able to get online with it, had to then force my router to re-detect the connection and now it is also working.Last night my ISP had an outage, or something, and I was not able to connect for quite awhile, keep in mind that my modem was working all day yesterday.It came back up around 2:30 or 3 am last night but since I was rendering some footage in Sony Vegas I did not check to make sure everything was good. So I get on my computer this afternoon and find that I am not connected to the net and that I can not ping nor connect to my SB5101. Pings all say Request timed out.All of the lights that should be on are on: power, receive, send, online all green, activity solid amber, which is almost never solid usually flashing. So I power cycle it and my router and plug them back in but now the internet light on my router never turns green, just flashing/solid amber.I am able to connect to my router, a netgear WRG3500, through the gui interface just fine. So I connected directly to my surfboard and was still unable to pull an ip address or connect to the gui for it. All pings and address renews resulted in request times out or media disconnected messages.At this point it is looking like my SB has gone bad, but I do not see how that could possibly be. These things usually have downward slides into crappy brokeness, this was immediate without any problems for 2 years.I am connected atm with my old D-Link DCM 202 modem I had before this one, which does not want to talk with my router, not sure why.

Sep 9, 2012I am having problem connecting to my work PC via VPN Cant ping and RDP. I sometimes need to log into my work PC to check out a problem. I connect via VPN and I can access servers (using Citrix and local intranet sites) that can only be accessed once connected to my work domain. So it looks like the VPN actually works fine.
But I cannot Remote Desktop Connection to it. I also tried to ping the PC using a command prompt. Using the command prompt, I ping MyWorkPC And I can see that it tries to ping MyWorkPC.domain.name.co.za. So it looks like it sees the MyWorkPC on the network. But all pings fail.
A work colleague tried to remote connects to MyWorkPC from his home PC and he can successfully connect. So I do believe that the work network and PC is setup correctly. I am running window 7 Ultimate SP1 (32bit) with a 3G dongle in a router. I also have Avast antivirus installed on my PC. I was not sure if the router or the antivirus was the issue so I tried:
1.Removing the 3G dongle and attach it to my USB port on my home PC directly. No luck
2.Some blogs said that the P2P or IM shield on Avast might be the problem so I disable it. No luck
3.Then I uninstalled Avast completely to see if it has any shield that might still block it. I restarted. No luck

Cisco Firewall :: Can Ping ASA5520 Outside Interface But Cannot Connect To Other
Nov 5, 2012So I have a client with an ASA 5520 running version 9.0 (was on 8.4) that I am trying to get either IPSec or SSL VPN configured on. I got everything setup and tried to connect. However, I couldn't connect to either. I fired up the real time monitoring and didn't see any syslog messages referring to a VPN build up. I also enabled SSH/Telnet on the outside interface and cannot connect to the ASA outside interface. I can ping the outside interface and can ping the internet from the ASA. I did set up a test ACL on the ASA and ran packet tracer on it and the results came back fine.
There is an IPS in the ASA as well, but I disabled the ACL for that and still am having these issues. Part of me wonders if the ISP has something set up to block inbound traffic. This should be a business class connection.

Feb 28, 2012When I first set up the Zone based firewall I used the Wizard with a setting of "low".The issue I am now having is related to adding a new subnet on a completely different IP range. My normal network is 10.20.0.0/16 sub-netted down into /24's for each vlan.Recently I added a new VLAN with a 172.16.0.0/16 subnet. I plan to use this vlan for testing purposes. I updated NAT on the router to allow the 172.16.0.0/16 range to be NATTED.From the router I can ping anything on the 172. 16.0. 0/16 range and from a test machine in the 172.16.0.0/16 I can ping all of the 10.20.0.0/16 addresses including the router.My problem is I can not ping out onto the Internet from a 172.16.0.0/16 computer.I have checked and so far I have not been able to find any policies on the firewall saying traffic must be sourced from the 10.20.0.0/16.

I can see port 3389 listening on both using netstat -a. But 7 just can't RDC connect to 8. 7 cannot ping 8 either. Mar 14, 2012I have set up three E4200 routers as wireless access points on our network. They each have a static ip and the same subnet mask and gateway that our pcs have. They also have a local address that I can connect to if wired straight into them.
I cannot ping or remote admin into any of them and I have enabled all the options to do so. The routers seem to work fine as WAPs, providing internet and network access.

Jan 15, 2013I have a cisco 871w router that I'm trying to incorporate into an existing network. I have FastEthernet4 (WAN port) plugged into an ISP device, which I don't have access to. I have the address set to use dhcp, which is successfully recognized and I see that the interface gets a valid ip address that I can ping with other computers on the same network.
Problems: I am logged into the router via the serial port and I cannot ping websites on the internet. I am able to ping sites that are hosted inside the WAN, but when I try "google.com" for instance, I see it sending out packets, but none are received. It resolves the hostname from the local DNS server, but there are no packets received.
I type into the console to set up the router. I'm missing a lot of stuff. This is what I've been able to piece together using google and the software manuals:

Jun 17, 2012I am trying to configure Nat on a clean ASA 5505, but can't get it to work. I ran the commands below. On the ASA I can ping the internet and inside vlan ip. On my laptop I can ping the ASA inside vlan ip, but I can't ping the outside vlan ip. From another network I can ping the ASA outside public ip. Is there an access-list that denies inside from accessing outside?
I am running version 8.4(3) and I erased the existing configuration.

Aug 7, 2012We let cisco professional to configure 1941w router with EHWIC-3G card. So the Gig 0/0 and wlan clients could communicate the internet over 3G.So we bought another 1941w and copied the config over to new one. Can ping from console but not from client pc. The only differents between old and new is "ip source-nat" line. New router just don't save it to running-conf. No errors also.

Cisco WAN :: Cannot Access Internet - Ping PC With 871W
Jul 23, 2012I am new to Cisco and am studying for my CCENT certification. At the moment, I am attempting to correctly configure a Cisco 871W lab router. Since I have undertaken this task, I have run into nothing but problems. First off it was finding that the previous owner had left a password on it, having to purchase a new USB to DB9 adapter to pass the "break" sequence to the router, and then resetting the router in ROM Monitor mode.
Now, I cannot seem to configure the router correctly, and am quite stumped.
My ISP is Charter (cable internet), and the home network that I am using consists of a Motorola SBV5122 Digital Voice Modem, Motorola SB6120 Cable modem, and, ideally, should also include my Cisco 871W router.
When I connect my router to the SB6120 Cable modem, the router receives an IP address via DHCP and the WAN indicator light turns on.
I have a VLAN configured on the 4 switchports of the router, and it is setep to act as a DHCP server. However, when I connect my PC to rhe router via Cat5e Crossover cable, I cannot access the internet. The router gives the PC an IP address, yet all attempts to ping the PC from the router fail. Somehow, I can connect to the router via SSH though.
Furthermore, I can ping the 127.0.0.1 loopback address from my PC, but cannot do so from the router.
how to correctly configure this router to function as intended in my network situation, however, this is proving to be seemingly unsurmountable!
