Cisco WAN :: P2P Fiber Utilizing 2901 ISR And 2924XL Switch

Jun 8, 2013

I am having a bit of trouble with the following scenario; I have two 2901 ISRs and a 2924XL setup in the following fashion.

2924XL--->P2P-Fiber--->2901ISR--->P2P-Fiber--->2901ISR

I  need to be able to reach the LAN 192.168.1.0 from 192.168.3.0 for TS  but cannot get this to work.  I can ping from within the switch all  around and i can ping from within the woodlawn router all around but  cannot ping host to host.

Cisco LAN :: 6506 How To Connect Fiber Cable To Switch

May 14, 2012

The core switch is a 6506 and one of the modules is the 48port POE module. The 6506 resides in the main building and we need to interconnect two other annexes to the main building via fibre. is it possible to have just 2 sfp ports on the 48 port module or how to connect the fibre cable to the switch?

Also, if the existent network is made up of Cat5e cables would it be of anyuse to use Cat6 cables for uplink for the switches on each segment to the core switch. I feel basically the Cat5e would nullify the speed of the Cat6 or am i  wrong and this would make uplink speed faster.

SG300-10MP / Fiber From Home Office Switch To Equipment Rack?

Nov 10, 2011

I just installed a 10 port Cisco SG300-10MP in my office, 9 of the ports are already in use. Connected to it are

PC
Laptop
Notebook
WIFI AP
B&W laser printer
Color inkjet printer
IP camera
Squeezebox SB3

Cat5e connection to basement HP 1810G-24 switch All of these devices are connected via a single Cat5e cable that was installed when the house was built. I had to re-terminate both ends of it when I moved in because the existing terminations were done very poorly. I have no idea how or where the cable is routed, nor what the quality of this Cat5e cable is. It did pass a test using my cable tester.

This single Cat5e is connected to my main HP switch in the basement equipment rack. Both of these switches have mini-GBIC ports that can utilize SFP transceivers and fiber. I priced out 2 MGBSX1 compatible modules along with a 30M multimode fiber patch 'cable' online at under $150. Although it would require at least a couple hours of work (including digging around in the attic and crawl space and drilling some holes), but running the fiber to the basement is very doable.

My question to my far more experienced forum members is if the performance gains would be worth the effort? My server is in the basement, and despite having an Intel GB NIC in my PC I am seeing read speeds of ~23MBs and writes of ~49MBs to/from my it. My server has teamed GB NICs (802.3ad LACP Layer 2) connected to trunked (LACP) ports on my HP switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Inter Access Switch Fiber Connectivity 2960-48PS

Jan 16, 2012

I had a strange issue yesterday when onsite installing a new access switch.Port capacity full on a two switch stack of 3750 x48 PS switches (WS-C3750- 48PS-E)- New 2960 x48 PS - WS-C2960S-48FPS-L racked, with the plan of using it just as an edge switch via SFP Stacking cable.Setup the two connecting ports with simple initial config: - switchport mode trunk- no encapsulation option on the 2960, default dot1q- dot1q set on 3750 port- no shut on both sides.Connected the SFP Stacking cable but it didnt work:- %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/1 is not supported

This is ok as I had a backup:- Next step tried using 2 x Short Haul SFP SX GBIC's with LC - LC OFNP 50/125 fibre patch lead  - no joy- Extra backup of 2 x Long Haul SFP LX GBIC's with the same fibre patch - no joy- Checked the fibre and it was not a cross over so transmit and receive going down the same side, switchedand still would not come up.- Used Fibre as a straight through and still the same.In all cases there was no indication of any life in the connection. It is pointing to a faulty fibre patch lead but I know it has worked in the past. Could it be something to do with the config or device incompatibility? Or any setting I need to activate?

Cisco VPN :: 2901 - VPN Between IOS And ASA Only Working 1 Way

The ASA can ping over the VPN to computers behind the router, but the router can not always ping to computers in the ASA network. When i ping from a computer in the IOS router's 10.100.36.0 network the requests times out most the time; although every few minutes, i will get about 10 pings back, then stops working again.

I uploaded their two configurations.

The ASAs public IP is 20.20.20.5 and local (inside) network of 10.101.36.0/24
The IOS routers public IP is 20.20.20.10

There are many internal networks, but 10.100.36.0/24 is the one with issues.

Cisco WAN :: Internet Connectivity On 2901 ISR

Jan 1, 2012

Physical devices are a Cisco 2901 (CISCO2901/K9)  with GE0/0 configured as 192.168.1.1
Connected through a D-Link DGS-1210-24 configured as 192.168.1.202
Running on a domain with an HP domain server as 192.168.1.2

The 2901 was an EHWIC (VA-DSL-A oPoTS) on EHWIC 0/0/0
GE 0/0 on the 2901 is physically connected to the DGS-1210 which is physically connected to the server.
VDSL 0/0/0 is physically connected to the DSL jack.

So far the configuration reports all is connected, and I can ping the gateway of our ISP (using CLI or Cisco CP); however the server reports no internet connection and no workstations can access the 'net.

Once connected; I'd also like to allow ports through for use on the network (25, 80, 110, 443, 987, 1723) - but not sure on how to do that just yet!

Our IP is 202.27.19x.19x
Our Gateway is 202.27.217.5

Cisco WAN :: 2901 Link To Vendors / How Would You Set It Up

Oct 4, 2011

I have inherited a setup for a custom application and would like to know if this is the only way this could be set up.  How would you do it?The application uses dedicated T1 links to our vendors.  There is a Cisco 2901 router in the middle providing the connections.  Traffic to specific vendor's IP's are routed to their prospective connections.  I have attached a network diagram and a config for the 2901.  The way my predecessor(s) set this up, each different vendor uses a different private IP address for the  internal links.  This seems odd to me.  Shouldn't there be a way to have only one subnet on the inside and have the links NAT depending on which route it takes?  The servers have persistent routes built in them to send vendor traffic to the associated IP on the router.  E.g., traffic to Vendor 1 is routed to 192.168.50.1, the 2901's IP address for the Vendor 1 network.  That traffic is then NAT'd to  an IP address associated with Vendor 1's link and the 2901 then routes the traffic to the Vendor's end of the link.

I would think that I should be able to revamp this so that internally we're only using one subnet and the traffic could NAT at the link associated with the Vendor.  I recently had to add the 3rd vendor connection, and wound up having to duplicate what was done for the other two in order to get it working quickly.  I didn't have the time to wrap my head around the best way to revamp the whole thing.

Cisco VPN :: PPTP Disappeared On 2901?

Jul 6, 2012

I recently obtained a 2901 router running 15.2(2)T to replace my old 877 which was running 15.1(4)M1. The 2901 is humming along quite nicely but I have had difficulty configuring one feature which was working fine on the 877. The router needs to be a PPTP client to a hosted VPN service. On the 877, I had it configured like this: [code] I then had a dialer interface to actually set up the connection, and some PBR to control what went over the VPN. All well and good, and it worked fine. But on the 2901, when I try to configure the same thing, there is no such command as "protocol pptp" -- the only option is protocol l2tp.Was PPTP support deprecated somwhere between 15.1 and 15.2, or does the 2901 itself not support it for some reason? Obviously I understand that l2tp is superior to pptp, but at the moment this is my only option.
