Cisco WAN :: QOS GTS Shaping Without Effect On ISR G2 2900
May 29, 2013
I try to setup a basic GTS shaping on a cisco ISR G2 2900
Cisco IOS Software, C2900 Software (C2900-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.2(4)M3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
Cisco CISCO2901/K9 (revision 1.0) with 1957856K/40960K bytes of memory.
ipbase ipbasek9 Permanent ipbasek9
the policy-map was applied to a svi interface (vlan interface)
And my problem is the shape isn't effective, in my attempt the max bw is 20Mb and I have gigabit interface
I know this kind of setup is classic and I see it working on older ios version 12.x
config:
interface VlanX
ip address X X
no ip redirects

If there is a router ISRG2 2900 with SEC license and without HSEC license, there is a limit in count of cumulative encrypted VPN tunnels of 225. Which commands can show us a number of current tunnels on the router, so we can see if we are near this limit of 225?

RT1 is RR client of RT2, we run label BGP among RT1, RT2 and RT3; MPLS LDP is OK; RT1 network route 192.168.1.18/32 with MPLS-label 4123, we hope RT2 propagate it to RT3 by its address 192.168.8.2 and swap MPLS-label, however, RT2 just propagate it without any changing(192.168.1.18/32 nexthop 192.168.8.1).

We need to rename our 4404 Wireless LAN Controllers. Would like to know if renaming via the GUI (change name in the Controller / General tab and then Apply) will cause the WLC to reload. Also wondering about the best way to push the name change to the APs (High Availability) - we are not using WCS.

I have removed all port forwarding and enabled DMZ? I made sure the DMZ IP matches my internal IP. DMZ still not taking effect. One thing I noticed is that when I visited [URL] it showed a different IP then what was assigned to my router itself.

I just update my cisco 7609 to Version 12.2(33)SRD6. I encounter a strange problem with this version, everytime i change BGP policy ( input or output ) this will take effect immediately without "clear ip bgp neighbor <address> soft". Are there anyway not to take BGP policy affect unless command "clear ip bgp neighbor <> soft" ?

Does ip default-gateway have any effect on a L3 device such as a 2811 router? I always thought that on a L3 device the default route would supersede any such command assuming it is accepted.
We have a client device that cannot be reached for managment directly and wanted to add that statment only if it might work.

I have Win 7 and Win 8 dual booting on my brand new Dell Vostro laptop. The wireless works beautifully while using Win 7, but when I switch to Win 8... the actual Fn+F2 wireless switch has no effect whatsoever! So I know the machine is OK, the network is OK, but what could be making the machine act differently under Windows 8? Device manager and details say the driver is up to date.. What do I look for next?? I don't think I'm going to be able to get a call through to Microsoft!!

We have a RV016 load balancing between two broadband WAN connections. On protocols that are sensitive to a change in IP address such as ssh and https, if the client connection goes inactive for a short time (sometimes as short as 10 seconds), the RV016 often changes WAN connection as part of its "load balancing" feature. Most protocols do not even notice, but the more sensitive protocols do and often lock a session or timeout the session which is not a good thing.
We have been able to bind these sensitive protcolols to a particular WAN port but (in our minds) this is not an "ideal" situation. In fact I would consider this to be a broken "load balancing" solution and should be fixed.

determine whether I have QoS properly setup on my router, and why the rules do not appear to be taking effect.ISSUE We have a couple of laptops, smartphones, and a Wii on our home network. One device, my roommate's laptop, is a real bandwidth hog. It's connected (via internet, not VPN) to a work server and is frequently downloading and syncing large datafiles and media files.Unfortunately, when that laptop is downloading the other devices either cannot connect to the internet without timing out, or is VERY slow, for example pulling up websites like google.com. When that laptop is offline, everything works fine. It seemed like enabling QoS would resolve our problem.\
SETUPLinksys E1000, latest firmware (v2.1.02), using WPA2-Personal security.
We first tried enabling QoS and setting the MAC address of the downloading laptop to "low" priority and all others to "medium". No luck - the downloading laptop still seems to be hoarding the bandwidth. We also tried adding the download application to the list and setting the port to "low". Still no luck.We added a new application called "web" and set port 80-81 to "high", but that didn't work.We then disabled WMM support. No dice. The other devices still can't connect while my roommatte's laptop is syncing. We've fiddled around with the settings a bit, but no matter what, it looks like the QoS rules are not being applied. And is it acceptable to have multiple categories (MAC and application) in the QoS rules?

I am a traffic shaping newcomer and need some guidance as how to BEGIN to approach a problem with traffic. We have been rolling out Windows 7 at sites and the additional traffic it causes on installation is considerable as it has to request information from our central site to populate My Documents and Outlook mailboxes. This has caused some problems on sites as there traffic rates increase to the point that QoS is not sufficient to protect voice traffic and delays and one-way audio are being experienced. One question is this - is GTS a solution or is CBWFQ within GTS the solution or is something else preferable? The sites involved are data/voice with a variety of routers.Second question is this - if we have a remote site with a 3725 router as the WAN aggregator with one 4506/Sup IV and one Cat 3550-24-PWR the shaping should be best placed on the 3725, correct? Also, are there issues with shaping incoming/outgoing traffic as I seem to have read?FYI, the 3725 router has 12.4(8d) with IP VOICE/NO CRYPTO IOS version. The 4506 has 12.1(23)E4 with basic L3 feature set.

We are looking to implement a bandwidth policy for our Internet link. What i would like to know is if we use a policing policy, will the exceeded dropped packets be resubmitted from the source? Will the dropped packets be resubmitted? Are there any differences besides this when using either policing or shaping policies? Is one better than the other?

I recently upgraded my AT&T dsl connection from 3.0Mbps to 18Mbps and I'm ready to fully optimize my network. Some bandwidth intensive programs, such as netflix and youtube, can hog all that bandwidth relatively quickly, so what I want to do is limit/reserve bandwidth to each individual computer on my network so online games and latency-oriented programs still function at an acceptable level. I have my connection running as follows: modem (controls dhcp) --> bridged connection server pc (2 nics) --> router --> every other device on the network. It all works beautifully except my router doesn't have QoS software on it therefore, I can't do the limiting there. Is there any way to use the server pc as a network shaping device, controlling downstream traffic? I've googled and come up with nothing definitive as people don't seem to do this very often.

I have a 3825 with a 1Gb fiber card at one of my sites. Our ISP and MPLS provider hand off a single gigabit fiber to us that contains 2 50MB EVC's.I need to apply QoS to one of the EVC's and shape them both to 50Mb to avoid upstream rate mismatch bottlenecks. Both of the EVC's generally only push 10Mb during business hours. When I run UDP stream tests (various rates from 500k-6m that are marked as AF41) to one of my other sites I am consistently getting about 2% packet loss, despite the fact the circuit isn't even close to 50% saturation. When I remove Shaping and QoS all together, the issue nearly clears itself up, except during peak hours and I get small bursts of packet loss, which is still unacceptable. When the pipe is at near zero utilization (after hours) there also is no packet loss with or with out the shaping/qos applied.

There is a remote server that downloads info from a server here at HQ. When the dowloads start the rxload on the S0/0/0 interface jumps to 98 percent or so; rxload 250/255. I needed to limit the bandwidth utilization between the servers, so I added the below line to the LAN interface on the remote router.By adding the command, it reduced the download utilization -which is what I wanted.
access-list 185 permit ip host 10.6.27.1 any
!
int f0/0
traffic-shape group 185 10000 8000 8000 1000
Question:How would applying this to the LAN interface cause the download utilization (Coming from s0/0/0) to decrease?

We have an ISP connection that is connected via an ethernet interface on a 5510 ASA. We are allotted 10Mbps. I have currently have the interface set to 10Mbps Full. However we want to upgrade the connection to 25Mbps. I know I can set the port speed to 100Mbps and then set a shape/police statement and shape down to 25Mbps.
Management wants to be able to call the ISP and arbitrarily adjust that speed up temporarily at any time without any user/admin intervention on our side. I can simply leave the port at 100Mbps i.e. no shape statement on my side however I will run into problems with large amounts drops, overruns, retransmissions, etc due to the ISP shaping the connection speed during normal operations. However they then could then adjust the speed at any time without needing me.
I do not know the best way to make this work. Is there some sort of dynamic/smart shaper in the ASA or another cisco device?

I have a 3800 running 12.4 with a outbound shaped nest Qos tied to a subinterface G0/0.12 which is trunk downstream to a 3500. I am getting drops on the "sh policy-manager inter g0/0.12 so know that shaping which is 1.5mbps is dropping my packets. The 3500 looks clean
3800:
policy-map A
class-map A
bandwidth 30% etc..
[Code]....
the routing is that host goes up to the 3800 and out a wan link but if wan is down, it hairpins back down from 3800 to 3500 which has a backup link on one of the ports. when we test wan down, or even when it is up, I see shape dropping packets

I have a client who has Cisco 3800 series routers in their data centre with which they have QoS/CoS policies implemented. They wish to further manage traffic by limiting outbound traffic to their branch sites in line with the network access bandwidth each site has available. Is this possible whilst leaving the QoS policies in place? If so how?

What's the good, inexpensive way to add traffic shaping to a small network? Let's say there are about 20 users on a T1 circuit. Existing router is an Adtran 3430 (from the telco so we can't touch it). Everything works fine except when they get really heavy with uploads/downloads when document scanning, and the telnet sessions to the mainframe app start getting dropped. Major PITA. Basically need to make telnet traffic a priority. Now, I could drop a pfSense box in there using an old workstation, but I'd like something I can stick in a rack, or is at least really small and hopefully under $200 or so.

I am trying to get ride of an old traffic management appliance and would like to replace it by a simple Cisco 3845.
The configuration is really simple:
Customers -- Router 3845 -- Internet
I want to be able to provide bundles to customer such 64kps garanteed/ 2mbps MIR (retail) and 2mbps garanteed no MIR (business).
I need also to specify to the router the total internet bandwitdh available (example: 20mbps symetrical).
This configuration will work ? Should I worry about any performance issue if I start to have a lot of customers ?
ip access-list extended Cust1
permit ip any sub_Cust1
permit ip subCust1 any

I am suggesting an ASR1001 as a head end router for a small hub spoke WAN consisting of 4 branch sites connecting to the head via LES. 3 are 100mb, one is 30 mb. I will be connecting the LES circuits to a swithc and then trunking to the router. I would like to apply outbound shaping to these 4 subinterfaces on the router, and just want to check this is supported?
