Cisco WAN :: Split Local And International Bandwidth On 3825 With 2960 Switch?
Jul 7, 2011
On my country, international bandwidth still expensive. I want to split local and international bandwidth and limit inbound and outbound bandwidth for each ip like this:
IP 10.100.10.11 can use 100Mbps local bandwidth, 1Mbps international bandwidth
IP 10.100.10.12 can use 100Mbps local bandwidth, 2Mbps international bandwidth
I want to use
Router 3825Switch 2960
NB: I have online one internet line.
Was the above equipment can perform functions that I want or need any additional equipment? And Should i use 2 line to achieve my goal?

I'm pretty new to this, and I've been trying to read up on what I should do. Here's my situation: we have a new 15mps internet connection coming into our building. We also have a new 891 router. We would like to devote 1.5mbs at the highest priority to one LAN which is just used for VOIP phones. We would like to allow one of the other tenants to use up (but no more than) to 5mps for their LAN, and we'd like to be able to use up to 13.5mps for ourselves if it's available, or at least 8.5mps (15-1.5-5=8.5).
From searching in here and reading the various articles on policing and shaping, I'm thinking that we'd want to set up Class-based weighted fair queuing on a per-interface basis, and have one interface connected to our VOIP switch, one connected to the other tenants switch, and one connected to our firewall. Does this sound like the right way to go? And would anyone have an example of a configuration which achieves this?

We have a new 100MB internet service, but we only pay for 10MB and above that is a per/MB fee and not cheap. I want to limit all traffic inbound and outbound only to use up to 10MB on the outside interface of our Cisco 3825.

We will shortly be installing a Cisco 3825 router, to be connected to the BTNet service, over fibre. We will be binding many public IP addresses to the router.
Is there a way of defining a specific bandwidth limit per IP address, or range?

I'm working with two Catalyst 2960 switches and I would like to know if there is a way to monitor bandwidth on individual ports. Ideally I would like to have one graph showing a bandwidth usage reading on each port. I tried using the Network Assistant to accomplish this, but I was only able to view one port at a time. I also tried using a traffic graphing program from Paessler, but a MIB file is needed to allow the program to connect to the switch. When I ran a search on the network management page the 2960 was not on the list for MIB supported products. Is this type of graph possible to do?

We are looking at putting in a solution at a hotel for Free Guest WiFI.The solution would cover 4 floors and about 120 rooms and some open areas .In short the hardware would look as follows
-2500 controller
-1142LAP
-2960 PoE switch
-878 Adsl router for internet connectivity (20Mbps/1Mbps internet ADSL feed)
One of the concerns raised by the client is that they would like to make sure that no single user could eat up too much bandwidth creating problems for the rest of the users . Can the above KIT or something similar achieve this objective? As far as I can think of we would require a Proxy server .

I have a very problematic situation here.I have configure on a Cisco 2960 the vty line in a wrong manner and now I am stock. To configure those vty to enable ssh I have typed :
line vty 0 4
login local
password xxxx
line vty 5 15
login local
password xxxx
exit
Problem, I work remotely (I was on telnet while doing this). I have no username configure as I thought that root user would work. Now when I issue an ssh to my switch, I always failed authentication.how I could recover access to my switch without being physically there ? I have write the config in memory, otherwise it would have been too easy.

I've had a go at this myself but not been able to make any progress. The traffic type is TCP/IP.

We found out that only local multicast ip address range is not passing between the sites, any other range is passing, local range is 239.0.0.0 and above.
We have two different datacenters, the internal switch is 2960S (Stacked) with 1-10 vlans and the external switch is 3560E, the external switch is adding another tag (qinq, dot1q), vlan 611, and send the packets to metro line to the other site.
on the other site we have the same configuration.
internal switch from site A is configured with igmp querier and the internal switch port on site B connected to the external switch is configured as mrotuer port.
multicast and igmp is passig between the sites, but the local multicast range is not passing, igmp filterring is configured on all port but no profile is defined and no ports are filterred, on the external switch igmp snooping is disabled.

We have an ASA 5510 and are having issues supporting a client in Europe. After about 5 minutes (sometimes it will last up to 30 minutes) we drop the connection with Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. We are using the Cisco VPN client with the newest software version. We have also tried this on both 32 bit and 64 bit OS's. We have no issues VPNing to any other clients or with anyone VPNing into us. It's only with the client in Europe. We are able to VPN into their US site without any problems. They also claim they have no issues with anyone else VPNing into them.

i have a 4Mbps DSL internet connection with 3 PCs connected through a router. 2 are connected wirelessly and the other is wired via an ethernet cable.i noticed that when downloading a file from an international server, the transfer rate on the wireless PCs is 2-3 times slower than on the wired PC. the wireless PC would get about 150-200kb/s, whereas the wired PC can max out to 450kb/s on a single download.however when i download from a local or nearby server instead, the transfer rate on the wireless and wired PCs are the same and can both reach up to 450kb/s per download.i don't understand why the wireless connection is slower to international servers compared to the wired PC. don't they all go through the same router? or am i missing something?my wireless signal is at 54Mbps with "excellent" strength. i also tested the ping results from both the wireless and wired PCs to international servers and they are pretty much the same. there doesn't seem to be any extra latency all PCs are running windows XP SP3- the modem/router is a D-Link 2640B

We are about to share a 10 MBit ISP connection with 2 others companies, and they are going to split the bill up into 3,3 and 4 Mbit, so we where thinking that we could setup a switch before their and ours router and provide them with a static IP from our ISP. But is it possible to set a bandwidth limit on the ports of a Cisco Catalyst 2960-8TC, so that we can set a limit of 3,3 and 4 on 3 ports.

I have the task of replicating the router config on a 3825 router on a 3750 switch. Reason is we are taking out the router and replacing it with the switch to make use of the router for other functions.
Below is main part of the router config:
!
ip source-route
ip cef
!
!
multilink bundle-name authenticated
!
license udi pid CISCO3825 sn FCZxxxxxxx
!
vlan internal allocation policy ascending
[code].....
The 3750 switch I have runs C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M, Version 12.2(55)SE3 on a LAN BASE license.
The first thing I have done is to order for a license upgrade to IP BASE which would give the support for OSPF routing.I do not see much of an issue with the Interface configs, however, I am not too sure about replicating the routing config on the switch.
My question is can I run the commands as shown for the OSPF routing on the switch? If not, can I get suggestions on how best to set this up on the switch?

I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.

Region : Germany
Model : TL-MR3020
Hardware Version : V1
when visiting Switzerland and Italy with my German SIM card I noticed that roaming is not working very good with the TL-MR3020. The reason is that the internet provider needs to be set in the config, in my case to o2 Germany. When I travel with this SIM card to another country, I roam into other networks. As I cannot what provider is currently active (as o2 has contracts with almost every provider outside Germany) and even if I could see it I have to adjust the settings in the config if anything changes, the satisfaction effect on this trip was not very good.
Also I noticed that sometimes (only sometimes) the setting resetted itself to o2 Germany when unplugging the device, this added some extra negative satisfaction to everything. In my understanding the router should have an auto detection for the currently active network and auto setup for the dialin parameters and everything else. Like every smartphone on the planet. Maybe you can also add a setting where you can enable or disable data roaming to save people money if they do not have a international data option booked.
