View 5 RepliesWe are using the CISCO-DOT11-ASSOCIATION-MIB in a Cisco Air AP 1140 device with release 12/4(21a)JA1 to find out the radio type of wireless client (B/G or N). The clients in question are of type Wireless N and Wireless B/G. We are querying cDot11ClientDevType and cDot11ClientRadioType but the relation between the returned values and client/radio type is not clear:
2 devices returned: cDot11ClientDevType = 102 ==> pc4500Client(102) - client with a 4500 radio and ClientRadioType=2==> ccxClient(2) - CCX- compatible radio1 device returned: cDot11ClientDevType = 1==> unknown (1) – unknown and ClientRadioType= 1==> unknown(1)
Questions: On a Cisco Air AP 1140 device
What OID needs to be polled to find if the client's radio type? What value is returned by this OID if the radio type is B/G?What value is returned by this OID if the radio type is N?
For some time now I have been looking for a good business class wireless AP. I've narrowed it down to the Cisco Aironet 1140 standalone (no controller). I'm no stranger to Cisco products. I've worked with their routers, switches and Pix/ASA firewalls. However, I've not had the opportunity to work with their wireless AP's. Anyone using these AP's (more specifically the 1140 standalone), can provide information on the reliability and security of these devices. Some of the features I would like to have like Radio Mgmt. and Rogue AP Detection I see are only available on the controller based units. Does not having these features on the standalone unit reduce its reliability and security? This is for a small business and the budget does not allow to drop for a controller at this time.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI need a legible radiation pattern graph for the 1140 AP -- the antenna pattern. This is for a wireless deployment application which models signal strength. It needs to be specific for the 1140 AP as the antenna has a Maximum gain of 3 dBi which is different than the antenna gain on the 1130 AP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed an Aironet 1140 to replace a Netgear ProSafe access point that I had in my network prior. I'm having one issue that I can't figure out though. None of the client PCs can establish a connection to an external (over the internet) VPN server while on the Aironet wireless. If i unplug the AP and plug a PC into the same port that normall feeds the Aironet I can VPN just fine.
Is there any "VPN Passthrough" option that needs to be enabled somewhere on the 1140 that is blocking this traffic for some reason?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Aironet 1140 AP that will not connect to the network when on PoE (either using a Cisco PoE injector) or a Avocent Switch that provides PoE.
The AP will boot up and and devices will connect to it (the LED changes to blue) but none of the devices can get access to the corporate network or internet. When the AP is powered by the standard power supply, it operates normally, i.e. devices can access the network. Are there settings that can be changed to get the AP to work correctly on PoE?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust a few days ago, one of my coworkers computer was unable to see any of our wireless access points - all aironet 1140. He is one of two using a Win 7 machine, everybody else uses Mac with either Lion or Mountain Lion. The Macs can "see" and connect to our wireless AP's just fine.
The odd thing is that is his computer can pick up our neighbors wireless access points, but can't "see" ours. Also, a few peoples phones can no longer detect them either - both iphone 4's (ios 5.1.1 and 6) and androids (2.3 and 4)
No changes were made to our AP's, then people started having wifi issues.
The command that is given returns an error at the letter a in archive. The command I used was: archive download-sw /overwrite /reload tftp:// obviously with my tftp server info and file name at the end. I logged in with privileged EXEC mode as directed, but archive is not listed when I type ? to get a list of commands. I need to have this AP up and running by Monday.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got two Cisco Aironet 1140 Access Points in my office. They're both setup as AP at opposite ends of the office with the same SSID, so employees can walk throughout the office without losing connectivity. We recently re-started one of the AP's, but ever since the re-start, users cannot roam from one AP to another without dropping their internet connection to the outside world. In other words, if I originally connect on Side A and walk over to Side B, I lose my internet connection. Users can still access the internal network, and I can launch the web interface for both AP's. But, it seems like the DNS doesn't recover until I go back to Side A.

View 4 Replies View Related I have an AP Aironet 1140 that have two (2) SSID: (ZDE) and (GUEST). Guest is working fine but ZDE is not giving IP addresses to users attached in this AP. I atached the sh tech of the Ap. From the configuration cisco guide of Aironet 1140 i understand that by default, access points are configured to receive IP settings from a DHCP server on your network. But i don´t know if i have to configure the dhcp server ip addres in the Ap, similar to the ip helper address in switches
Configuring the Access Point to Provide DHCP Service. These sections describe how to configure the wireless device to act as a DHCP server:
•Setting up the DHCP Server, page 5-22
•Monitoring and Maintaining the DHCP Server Access Point, page 5-24
•Setting up the DHCP Server
By default, access points are configured to receive IP settings from a DHCP server on your network. You can also configure an access point to act as a DHCP server to assign IP settings to devices on both your wired and wireless LANs.
The 1100 series access point becomes a mini-DHCP server by default when it is configured with factory default settings and it cannot receive IP settings from a DHCP server. As a mini-DHCP server, the 1100 series access point provides up to 20 IP addresses between 10.0.0.11 and 10.0.0.30 to a PC connected to its Ethernet port and to wireless client devices configured to use no SSID, and with all security settings disabled. The mini-DHCP server feature is disabled automatically when you assign a static IP address to the 1100 series access point. Because it has a console port to simplify initial setup, the 1200 series access point does not become a DHCP server automatically.
My 1140 doesn't write to the config.txt file. I'm not sure why. I have three of these access points that we changed the firmware to make them autonomous. The other two worked fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am installing a small wireless network (for the firs time). The WLAN is connected to a router/firewall and consists of a Cisco 2960-C Series 8-Port Compact Ethernet Switch, a Cisco Aironet 2500 Series Wireless LAN Controller for Lightweight Access Points and a Cisco Aironet 1140 Series g/n Lightweight Access Points (five AP if I get it to work).
My problem is that when a client connects to the access point it does not get an IP-address.
In the WLC DHCP proxy is enabled and Internal DHCP server is used.
The scope is from 192.168.104.65 - 192.168.104.99
The WLC IP is 192.168.104.60
The DHCP server is given as 192.168.104.60
When starting the system I can see the the AP have the IP 192.168.104.66 so it seems the DHCP gives out IP-addresses. I can ping the AP.
When a client connects to the APit is asked for the security key and the client can be seen in the WLC monitor section. The client never gets an IP-address; in the WLC monitor 0.0.0.0 is shown.
I wanted to know if anyone can say with certainty how many clients can stay connected 'Aironet 1140 series. I state that I should connect WiFi in about 350 clients.

We are starting to greatly increase our access point density throughout our floors and I am wondering if we are using the correct channel assignments. We are using LAP 1140's and 3500's. We have some locations that have have anywhere from 4 to 9 floors in one location. These are consecutive floors that have 8 to 11 APs per floor. There are also other businesses in these buildings that use wireless as well. We use 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n. Right now the channels are set to the default, (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 149, 153, 157, 161 for 802.11a) and (1, 6, 11 for 802.11b/g/n). I was wondering that since we are increasing our density whether we should enable other 802.11b/g/n channels outside of 1,6,11. I know the other channels can overlap but with correct placement I am wondering if it would improve our wireless coverage since we wouldn't have 8 to 11 APs fighting for only 3 channels. Any experience with enabling other 802.11b/g/n channels?
View 11 Replies View Related1. Cisco Aironet 1040, 1140, 3500i Series Integrated Antennas Diagrams show Azimuth Plane Radiation Patterns and Elevation Plane Radiation Patterns when AP is mounted vertically on the wall (red LED above Cisco logo). So "Zero" on Azimuth Plane points to direction rectangular to AP's case plane (mounting wall plane), "Zero" on Elevation Plane points to ceiling and "180 degrees" points to floor?
2. Radio waves polarization in this case would be linear, in direction from ceiling to floor?
3. If AP would be mounted horizontally on the ceiling, then polarization would be in direction parallel to floor axis X and rectangular to floor axis Y? So induced signal on notebook integrated antenna, oriented rectangular to floor axis X, would be near zero?
I recently changed the configuration of my Aironet 1140 from WEP to WAP2-Enterprise to make it more secure. I am using the WAP as the radius server. After making the change I connected my Blackberry to the wap as well as a Samsung Chromebook. However when I tried to connect my HP laptop it is unable to connect. Watching from the Aironet's console I see that it is processing the association and windows ask me to enter my uid and password. When I do this I get an authentication error. I have tried several times adjusting parameters on windows but it always fails. Here is the configuration of the WAP:
