View 4 RepliesI have an existing wireless network using a Cisco/Linksys WRT400N wireless router (which in turn is connected to a cable internet provider). I need to extend my wireless coverage and so purchased a Cisco/Linksys E1000 to act as an additional access point. Purchased from BB, the local 'geek squad' rep instructed me to follow the users guide for the set up. After login into the admin service on my E1000, I followed the 'Advanced Routing' instructions and disabled the 'NAT' option and subsequently enabled the 'Dynamic Routing (RIP)' option. Everything worked like a charm to this point, but now I'm stuck. What steps do I need to follow to allow clients to log onto my wirelss network via the E1000 (secondary access point)? I've established WEP security keys on the WRT400N (primary access point) and want to use the same network security parameters on the E1000.

-Product Identifier: AP541N-E-K9
-Hardware Version: V01
-Software Version: AP541N-K9-2.0(0)
I have created 2 VAP's and give each one an SSID. They both have the same VLAN ID. I have setup as follows:
1) The first VAP I would like to give internet access and access to our internal network shares.
2) The second VAP I only wish to give internet access and no access at all to our internal network (for guest access). I am also using HTTP redirect with this.
how can I achieve the setup in number (2)? This is to give internet access, but not share the internal network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving some problems connecting up my "new" AP My current set-up consists of a Netgear "Virgin Superhub" cable modem/wireless router, a ZyXEL WRE2205 (repeater) in the hall on the first floor, and Ethernet connections through to a number of rooms, including the loft. I can't get wireless access in the loft, and I want to put the AP up there, connected through Ethernet. I want to use the same SSID and security for the AP as on the router and repeater so I can roam around(!) That's possible isn't it?What I've done so far (which hasn't worked) is connected via laptop to AP, set AP into AP mode(!), set the AP to dynamic IP, set the SSID / security the same as the router/repeater, plugged the AP into the Ethernet and tried to connect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1. My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.
I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390 but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.
The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.
I need to know if 3502p with outdoor antennas supports Point-to-Point Wireless Bridging?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHere's the deal. My internet provider provided me with a shitty router with a lot of settings locked. I can't change DHCP settings or add custom static IP addresses. This sucks. The wireless function on it sucks also.I added an extra router to the network so I have good Wifi in my living room. I turned off the NAT, firewall and DHCP on that one, so it's a simple switch with a wireless access point now.Now here's the deal. The DHCP server of the provider's router hands out IP's from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.253 (192.168.2.254 is the router's own IP address).I gave the added switch/access point the IP address 192.168.1.1 in its own settings. The original router doesn't 'see' the switch now anymore because it's out of the DHCP's range. When I gave it an IP address within the DHCP's IP range, I got all kinds of conflicts (as expected).
I guess this is a solution since it works, but I'm open to other suggestions since it doesn't seem to be the best way of doing things. Besides, I can't access the access point's web interface anymore since it doesn't have an IP address within the network now. It isn't important because I don't need to change any settings anymore, but still.I'm going to add a second wireless router to replace the built-in wireless function of the provider's router. For some reason it sees its own wireless network as a separate network or something. When I roam from the new access point wifi to the provider router's wifi, everything gets confused because it tries to give the laptop a new IP address.
How would I bridge a wireless connection with a distance of 400 feet? Would twoAP1262N-A-K9 be able to make this happen? Or is there another wireless bridge that you all can think of?I would be connecting one AP1262 of off a 3750g switch and at the far end (400 ft aproximately) another AP1262N-A-K9.

COundt access them but they were still delivering 'wireless' so to speak I have recently put them back to defaults to try and get them back in to CCA. i had one, but not the other. They would work fine via GUI/web access. Then i updated them to 2.0.4 (both images) and since doing that i have no access to either of them via any form.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have two AP541N access points. Both are configured for internal access and one unit is configured with a Guest VAP. I want to configure the Guest VAP to redirect to an authentication page so that the user connecting has to log in to get internet access. I'm fairly certain the AP541N doesn't offer this out of the box. I know I can redirect, but what is needed to force a user to authenticate to gain internet access. I want to find out what additional hardware/software I will need in order to create Guest Services of this VAP.

We have a task of setting up 2 new WAP in our office. We have connected them to the network ethernet port and we can all connect which is great! We have a working LAN port, so access isn't a problem. And we know the server address. As much as we'd like the IT dept. to do it, or to at least tell us how, they're unbelievably lazy and won't do either.

Is there a way on cisco access points to automate a daily reboot?
How do we begin troubleshooting a wireless device accessing the network that a user is complaining slow accessing network recources? We are getting complaints that it is slow, when connected to internet we get about 20 MB. There is only one user connected.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have two Cisco AP541N running our wireless network in the office. They're configured with the same SSID, so that people are automatically switched between the two access points depending on their location in the office.
Frequently we are experiencing very poor performance of our wireless connections and it seems to be related to when 4-5 clients are connected to one access point. After restarting it (which also moves the 5 clients to the other access point), the performance problem goes away for a while.
I've upgraded one to firmware version AP541N-K9-2.0(1) (the other is running AP541N-K9-1.8(0)), but it doesn't seem to work.
I have a client that has 3 AP541N's and they want to enable guest wireless access. However, their VOIP provider has their managed switches locked down so we can't add VLANs, etc.So I cannot touch the switch or router config on this LAN.
Looking into AP541N documentation I see VAPs mentioned, can I enable those and have secure guest wireless access with the same private IPs that the rest of the LAN use right now? (That is, the employees are 192.168.2.x and the guest wireless users would also be 192.168.2.x.)
Or do I need to do something else to properly enable guest wireless? Like add another piece of equipment? I did try to add a Cisco RVS4000 to the mix but it wouldn't pass the VLAN across the switches that I setup for the guest wireless SSID. goal is to leave the switch and router in place, and work with the AP541N's that I have and get secure guest wireless.
I want to use one (or two) AP1232AG-E-K9 access points for Internet connection through a public wireless network (BTFON), where wire broadband is not an option. I've downloaded what I think is the correct manual for the APs and I'm now scratching my head as to where and how to start setting them up. I want to use these Cisco APs in the hope they will give me better wireless performance than I'm currently getting, which is frequently flakey. I've tried to reset the APs to the factory default but there seem to be different ways of doing this depending on what you want and what you've got. I made up a console cable to access the console but there even appear to be different versions of this so I'm not sure if the cable I have is the correct one. I have setup and used lower end wireless devices in the past but these Cisco units seem real complicated.

I have a cable modem with wires that goes to the router. From the router, I have CAT 4 wires going to several access points around the house. *-> Her PC
*-> DAP-1522 (wireless access point/bridge)
Now, we're on the 192.168.1.x domain, and I've already hooked my PC up directly to the DAP-1522 and switched its IP address. So now, I can connect to it through the switch. I've renamed it, set it to WPA2 with a passphrase, and should be set to go. However, I can't get my laptop, IPod touch, or any devices to see it. I tried entering the SSID manually, and nothing can find it.
Our wireless environment consitst of 5 AP541N's configured with 2 VAP's. 1 VAP is for our private network and the second for unsecured guest access. I am wondering what the preferred wireless mode is to maximize network speed? We only have N devices on our network and our mode is currently set to 802.11 b/g/n. Would 2.4GHz 802.11n be faster?
Does the Transmit Power setting have any effect on speed? Or just range? Any other settings on the Advanced Settings page effect network speed.
I currently have a Linksys WRT310N as my primary router/wireless device. I am not getting coverage in my entire home. I was considering purchasing the Linksys E4200 and using the WRT310N as an access point in another part of my house to extend my wireless network. From all of the research and reading I have been doing, it seems that I must connect the WRT310N to the E4200 if I want to use it as an access point. Is this the only way? I have no way to connect the WRT310N to the soon-to-be E4200 unless I run an Ethernet cable across the floor. My goal is to use the WRT310N as a wireless access point without having it wired to the E4200, if at all possible. If this is not, what other way could I go about doing this type of setup?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to use an E2500 as a wireless access point in my network. My computer is connected to the office network through a Netgear 5 port desktop switch. Would it be easier for me to configure the E2500 from the switch? If so, do I just plug it in there and access it via the 192.168.1.1 IP address to set it up? And lastly, what should disable (DHCP) or setup in the router so the internet functions through it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to improve the coverage of my home network.I have Fios, and with the existing Wireless capabilities, there are several dead and low coverage areas in my house. This is due to a combination of where my router is (Limited by input feed) and the confuration of the house.
I have CAT-5 running to most rooms, so adding wired devices is not an issue. I went out and picked up an EA4500 router, and my plan was to convert my Fios Router to a bridge and use the EA4500 as the DHCP server. However, even with this router, my coverage is not improved. My preferred solution will be to get 1 or 2 additional access points that I can plug into my wired network, however, I would want to have a common SSID for the entire network.
I have 12 wap4410n to enable wireless connection to a school building with 3 floor. I planned to configure one as a Access point. My doubt is in which AP mode i have to configure the rest as WDS Bridge or WDS Repeater other mode. In each access point i have Ethernet connection to the switch.
