Cisco Wireless :: Clients Connect To AP541n With Limited Access
Aug 20, 2012AP has static IP with 2 SSIDs setup, one for guest one for domain access(both have the same issue), tried with multiple devices, both win and MAC, all show "connected but with limited access", ipconfig on those devices, all show ip "169.254.X.X", but event log on AP indicates that "authentication has been completed sucessfully".
using RADIUS server for authentication. management VLAN ID "1", SSID VLAN ID "11"

Oct 2, 2012I have installed the following wireless access point on our network:
-Product Identifier: AP541N-E-K9
-Hardware Version: V01
-Software Version: AP541N-K9-2.0(0)
I have created 2 VAP's and give each one an SSID. They both have the same VLAN ID. I have setup as follows:
1) The first VAP I would like to give internet access and access to our internal network shares.
2) The second VAP I only wish to give internet access and no access at all to our internal network (for guest access). I am also using HTTP redirect with this.
how can I achieve the setup in number (2)? This is to give internet access, but not share the internal network.

Cisco Wireless :: AP541N Drops All Clients?
Jun 20, 2010As I posted about in the other AP541N thread about degraded performance, mine did a strange client disconnect last week. It dropped all authenticated clients, but they all thought they were still connected. A quick disable/enable of the wireless card on the laptop would get the computer back on the AP.
This same thing happened again today.

Jan 8, 2012I have 3 AP541Ns setup in a small environment. The wireless clients use laptops to attach, via RDP, to a Microsoft Terminal Server. They need the ability to walk, with laptop, from room to room, IE roaming wireless clients. The issue is the clients drop and re-attach constantly and takes up to 5 minutes to re-attach to the WLAN / RDP session. Is this a symptom of going from WAP to WAP and is their anything I can do about it.

Apr 30, 2012We have recently been given this unusual task. The setup is a series of CAP3502P access points, and a wireless controller (either 2500 Series or 5500 Series), as well as other standard network infrastructure.
In this network, the client (mobile/wireless) devices must be able to detect when they change what access point they are communicating through, while also requiring a seamless transition. Ie, if the client device is communicating via access point A, and displaying the application menus for A, when the user walks to the area services by access point B, it must detect that sot he application can display menus for B, without the user having to select "B".
Is there a way for the client device to detect which access point it is using and provide that to an application? Or alternatively a way for a host service residing on a server to get that information from the wireless controller?
Cisco Wireless :: AP541N Clients Sporadically Not Acquiring DHCPs
Feb 25, 2010I was having this issue with my Dell Precision M70 laptop until I made this tweak to the Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG card that is built-in and so far its seems to be making a difference with it connecting to our Cisco 541L APs and acquiring a DHCP from our network. However, the only thing different I noticed after making this change is that it is initially a bit slow at connecting to the Cisco APs.

Cisco Wireless :: AP541N Drops All Clients Unless Radio Set To 5GHz 802.11N
Apr 2, 2012I have an AP541N-A-K9. For the past couple weeks it stops work at 5:00pm. The clients can see the SSID but when they connect it fails. The only way to get this to work again, is to set the radio to 5GHz 802.11N. Setting the radio to anything else does not allow the clients to connect.
I have some older clients so I need this broadcast G as well.
I have upgrade the software to AP541N-K9-2.0(1). Does not make a difference. Reset to Factory defaulst and reconfig does not make a difference. There are no Rouge AP's in the area.
Between the issues these have passing DHCP from a Windows server and now this, I'm thinking these devices are not fully baked.

Nov 1, 2011I have a client that has 3 AP541N's and they want to enable guest wireless access. However, their VOIP provider has their managed switches locked down so we can't add VLANs, etc.So I cannot touch the switch or router config on this LAN.
Looking into AP541N documentation I see VAPs mentioned, can I enable those and have secure guest wireless access with the same private IPs that the rest of the LAN use right now? (That is, the employees are 192.168.2.x and the guest wireless users would also be 192.168.2.x.)
Or do I need to do something else to properly enable guest wireless? Like add another piece of equipment? I did try to add a Cisco RVS4000 to the mix but it wouldn't pass the VLAN across the switches that I setup for the guest wireless SSID. goal is to leave the switch and router in place, and work with the AP541N's that I have and get secure guest wireless.
Cisco 870 / Aeronet 1180 - DHCP Information Not Being Sent To Access Point Clients
Oct 3, 2011I have a Cisco 870 integrated service router and 3 Cisco Aeronet 1180 Access Points.I have configured the router to act as a DHCP server. with all four /26 subnets in a seperate address pool.the first one is for the routers wireless interface and works fine.but the other 3 are for each of the wireless access points, that are used for internet access, but have to operate independently (i.e. the clients on each must not be able to access anything other than the devices associated with that access point and the internet.
The problem I are having is that the router doesnt distribute DHCP information via the access points so the clients on all the access points are not recieving any internet connection at all, but are connecting to the access points, and the LED for the access points suggest that they are connected t the router, the router accnowledges their existence but is not transmitting through the fast ethernet switch ports. but is communicating with a wired printer that is associated with the wireless vlan.
Each access point is on its own vlan, and the switchport access vlan command has been used. only the five static addresses have been excluded from the address pool. the router, the three access points and the printer adresses are static. the printer is working despite being the only device on the /24 network all other addresses are on the /26 networks. this to my knowledge shouldent work but it does, which is handy because the printer software doent support subnetting.The simulation I have ran say that only the printer shouldent work, but its the access points that are not working how they should. I have studied the configuration of the router and access points, and came up empty on why they are not recieving DHCP information.
I are not even able to telnet to them, despite having an address setup. I have not set up a routing protool on the router due to it being the only router. I have checked the interfaces fa0 to fa3 and they are line up protocol up, the wireless is line up protcol up, the vlans are line up protocol down, except the one asociated with the wireless which is line up protocol up (I believe the protocol only goes up when a device is connected to it).

COundt access them but they were still delivering 'wireless' so to speak I have recently put them back to defaults to try and get them back in to CCA. i had one, but not the other. They would work fine via GUI/web access.Then i updated them to 2.0.4 (both images) and since doing that i have no access to either of them via any form.

May 21, 2012I would like to connect the AP541N to the RV220W and use the same SSID assigned to both throughout the office, for seemless client movement. I would like to keep the AP541N connected via the internet cable, as it will be on a switch which is on the same segment. The access point has many different configuration methods available, but the router appears to only have WDS as an option to connect the two devices. I would rather not use the WDS feature on the AP, as I want to utilize as much bandwidth available as possible, and I assume using that method I would need to remove the ethernet cable from the switch.
Is it as simple as configuring both devices with identical VLAN settings? I am preconfiguring the devices before installing them, as to minimize downtime, so would like to make sure the configuration is correct.
