Most Wireless Clients Associate To One Access Point?
Feb 23, 2011most of my wireless clients are associating to one ap when there are ap's closer. do i have some setting configured wrong on my controllers?

Cisco Wireless :: 1242-AG Repeater Mode Fails To Associate To Access Point
Apr 14, 2011I have just installed 3 access points along with 6 repeater access points all running V12.4. They are all AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 using the 2.4GHz radio.
Prior to installation I bench tested that the repeaters would associate with the access points and if one of the access points was turned off the repeaters would automatically roam to another access point. I did not have all 9 devices powered up at the same time, but did have 2 repeaters and 2 access points powered up to simulate association and roaming.
During installation as access points and repeaters were powered up everything behaved as expected (repeaters were associating to access points etc.) however during installation once everything was installed the 3 access points were all powered down for half an hour or so and once powered back on the repeaters did not automatically re-associate until they were re-booted.
I have now configured the repaters with parent MAC addresses to reflect the above current assocaition pattern but not yet powered off the access points to test if this forces re-association as this is now a live operational site!!
Is it normal to have to re-boot the repeaters if ALL 3 access points are powered down at the same time? i.e. If only one access point is powered down will the repeaters automaically roam to another access point o.k.?

Jun 22, 2011My desktop can go to internet with ethernet wire on. After installing wireless adaptor driver, the adaptor shows green solid light on 'power' and blinking light on 'Link'. The Linksys icon shows 'Cannot associate with the access point'. I called Verizon and was told that the adaptor might have problem. I want to know if really the adaptor's problem or the adaptor installation problem.

- 2 x WLC 5508 with about 80 - 120 access points (Aironet 3500) each
- 7 x WLAN's with different security settings
- 2 x ACS 5.3
On one WLAN we have the problem, that the students with their own laptops have to enter their AD username about 4-5 time, until they get a successfull 802.1x authentication. The WLAN has the following configuration:
- Hidden SSID
- Only 802.11b/g
- Interface assigned via AP Groups
- WPA2 / AES with 802.1x or CCKM (here I could only allow 802.1x, the clients do not need fast secure roaming)
- Authentication via ACS 5.3 and PEAP

Most of the time I can't see any 802.1x authentication attemps on the ACS View, but when there are entries, they are successfull. So in my opinion I think there has to be a problem on WLC side, but I don't know where to search further. We already deactivated the client load balancing in the WLAN, because at the beginning the customer wanted to activate that - but it was clear that there are a lot of clients which had to authenticate multiple times.I know there were some bugs in the 7.0 train, so I upgraded finaly to 7.0.235.0 to overcome this bug here: CSCty07036.To fix the other bug (CSCtt70290) I just disabled all the session timeouts on the different WLAN's.

Aug 10, 2011I have one room within which clients have problems associating.When using AirMagnet however one of the AP s appears to have the strongest S/n Ratio and overall signal strenght.I would have thought that would be the obvious AP for clients to associate with.However that is not the case and the users are trying to associate with various APs with lesser signal strengths. None of them have 100 % utilisation and if they all tryed to associate with the AP with the strongest signal that would alleviate the existing association problems. We are using AIR-CAP3502E-E-K9 with WCS 5500.

Apr 30, 2012We have recently been given this unusual task. The setup is a series of CAP3502P access points, and a wireless controller (either 2500 Series or 5500 Series), as well as other standard network infrastructure.
In this network, the client (mobile/wireless) devices must be able to detect when they change what access point they are communicating through, while also requiring a seamless transition. Ie, if the client device is communicating via access point A, and displaying the application menus for A, when the user walks to the area services by access point B, it must detect that sot he application can display menus for B, without the user having to select "B".
Is there a way for the client device to detect which access point it is using and provide that to an application? Or alternatively a way for a host service residing on a server to get that information from the wireless controller?

Cisco 870 / Aeronet 1180 - DHCP Information Not Being Sent To Access Point Clients
Oct 3, 2011I have a Cisco 870 integrated service router and 3 Cisco Aeronet 1180 Access Points.I have configured the router to act as a DHCP server. with all four /26 subnets in a seperate address pool.the first one is for the routers wireless interface and works fine.but the other 3 are for each of the wireless access points, that are used for internet access, but have to operate independently (i.e. the clients on each must not be able to access anything other than the devices associated with that access point and the internet.
The problem I are having is that the router doesnt distribute DHCP information via the access points so the clients on all the access points are not recieving any internet connection at all, but are connecting to the access points, and the LED for the access points suggest that they are connected t the router, the router accnowledges their existence but is not transmitting through the fast ethernet switch ports. but is communicating with a wired printer that is associated with the wireless vlan.
Each access point is on its own vlan, and the switchport access vlan command has been used. only the five static addresses have been excluded from the address pool. the router, the three access points and the printer adresses are static. the printer is working despite being the only device on the /24 network all other addresses are on the /26 networks. this to my knowledge shouldent work but it does, which is handy because the printer software doent support subnetting.The simulation I have ran say that only the printer shouldent work, but its the access points that are not working how they should. I have studied the configuration of the router and access points, and came up empty on why they are not recieving DHCP information.
I are not even able to telnet to them, despite having an address setup. I have not set up a routing protool on the router due to it being the only router. I have checked the interfaces fa0 to fa3 and they are line up protocol up, the wireless is line up protcol up, the vlans are line up protocol down, except the one asociated with the wireless which is line up protocol up (I believe the protocol only goes up when a device is connected to it).

Aug 29, 2009I just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network.My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1. My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems.The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.
I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390 but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.
The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.

Apr 25, 2011I've got a AP WAP54G. I've managed to get into the configuration page and rename my router and set a WPA2-Personl password.
The issue I'm facing is that when me and my roomate try to connect to the router at the same time, it shows the laptop that connects second as one that has 'limited connectivity' and hence cannot use the internet. The 1st laptop however works fine!
The settings for the router have all been left to default.
I'm not sure, but does this problem have anything to do with the fact that the router in configured with a static IP. If so, then there is another issure which is that whenever I try to change it from static to automatic/dynamic IP, the page fails and the router doesn't even get connected to the configuraion page(192.168.1.245) after that. The only way to get that page again is the reset the router.
Also I'm not able to directly get into the config page when I connect my router to my laptop via lan. I need to change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.x where x is >1.

May 10, 2013I'm using a WRT120N and have had no problems connecting most wireless devices, but a Nintendo DS and DSi owned by my family are unable to connect to the access point. My wireless security mode is disabled, network mode is set to mixed, SSID is the same as on the DS/DSi, Channel width is 20Mhz only, Standard channel is set to 6, but I tried using channel 1 and 11 without success, SSID broadcast is enabled.

Jun 4, 2013I have a 5500 controller that we use to manage our lightweight access-points. We have had complaints that the 'guest' vlan in the boardroom is not usable. Our guest vlan is in fact overloaded.
I went back to the original site survey and noticed that coverage for the room is not ideal so I would like to have a new lightweight access-point installed in the boardroom and somehow limit the access to it to only a few people.
