I cannot seem to locate a good document for SAP (standalone AP) security options to authenticate a connecting device at layer2 and/or at layer3. What the highest level of security I can use with BYOD such as Tablet devices (Samsung) and/or laptops.

I noticed that Aironet Controller-based 2602 does not support WDS. I would like to use 1242AG series but it will be going EOS soon.
I purchased the AP wrongly, instead of getting the "Standalone/Autonomous" (AIR-SAP2602E) version but I purchased the controller-based version (AIR-CAP2602E); my question is can I use "ap3g2-k9w7-tar.152-2.JB.tar" too flash it to a "Standalone/Autonomous" version?

We have a dell power edge 2900 server running windows SBS 2008 and a switch with more than enough ports for what we need.What i need to know is how exactly to do the wireless and what hardware would work best for us. We plan to have approximately 45 computers hooked into the server and have some wired but for the most part wireless. Also we would want to look into advanced security options for our wireless set up as we will be in the same building as a few other companies.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a hobby network at home, the structure of which follows:*Modem * - active SPI firewall -- Then the E4200 distributes data via wifi to/between the following machines --*Server - providing services such as http, FTP, VPN, Mail, MySQL, OpenDirectory, Plex media server, etc.*Two other workstations that access their user details/settings from open directory on the server.Now the purpose of this network other than providing standard access to Internet services from within the LAN is to provide access to the services maintained on my server to users on my LAN when they leave it/go mobile.Now with my limited knowledge of networking I have been using port forwarding to direct service requests through the firewall, however I have found with the E4200 that I have a limited number of custom port fields to use (about 15) which is extremely limiting when I have as many potential services that my server can provide.I could move the Server to a DMZ but then dosen't that put all my other services that have no need to be exposed at unnecessary risk.Do I need to invest in a separate hardware firewall and put it after the modem and before the router?

Probably go with VZ FIOS so EthernetAbout 2000 square feet so 2 WAP's should do it I'm thinking a CISCO881W-GN-A-K9 ISR with a SRW224G4P-K9-NA switch should do the trick. This will give me an integrated AP but I need a second one. Do I need to order an autonomous one or does the 881W do some sort of WLC function?
After moving my PC for the 3rd over the past year ive decided that having a more wire-"less" option may be the better option as supposed my previous method of having a 10m ethernet cable from my switch to my PC. ive looked at two options, first the powerline HD (was drawn toward the belkin 1gigabit ones as i have a gigabit switch) or to remove the cable completely and using a USB wireless dongle (similar to the Edimax EW-7811UN Wireless 802.11b/g/n 150Mbps Nano USB Adaptor) . i havent had much experience with these USB wireless things as i used be put off by the compatibility and config (software stuff). i have a 3com wireless 54mbps.. PCI card but i cannot install the drivers for it on my xp 64bit machine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a number of 3502i's that I need to mount in a new classroom that does not have any ceiling (except the floor decking above). Ceiling is roughly 30-50' up. Contractors are going to run several 2" (or whatever we want) metal pipes from the ceiling down to a more reasonable level to mount the access points on and get below the hvac ducts/etc in the ceiling.
Problem is I can't find any bracket or mounting options for this! What are others using in this situation for mounting one of these access points onto a metal pipe such as this? I've checked Oberon Wireless, Terrawave and I don't see anything glancing through the product catalogs. Anyone mounting access points this way?
I'm configuring a 2504 wireless controller with # of 1142 APs, wondering is there an option to turn off the WLC/ APs during after ofice hours? such as turn off power/RF options etc
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using the e4200 in a big old house with lots of walls, including rooms separated with brick. Wiring access points would be difficult given the problem of pulling wires. I do have lots of kids and devices connected including DirecTv, iphones, ipads, laptops, and PS3. Is there a range extender? Do I care if an extender only supports 2.4Mhz if I use the same SSID anyway?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI own an AG214 ADSL2 router that I use for my desktop PC. I now however also have a WRT54GL for wireless connection. I connected the WRT54GL to my AG214 via ethernet. Everything works fine, I have wifi and I can use it to connect to the internet. However when I go to my router (192.168.x.x) I can't seem to be able to find a wireless tab to configure my wifi settings. The network right now is unsecure and has a default name (linksys). How do I access my wireless settings? When I access my router it does go to the AG214, do I need to access the WRT54GL? If so, how do I do that?
View 4 Replies View Relatedwe have some (2) HP Notebooks with a Broadcon 4313 b/g/n WLAN Chip and use the latest drivers (2012). This Chip can provide up to 72 mbit/s with 2,4 ghz.
If we connect this notebooks to a Aironet 2600 AP (10 feet distance) the Windows 7 WLAN Dialog shows 72 Mbit/s for 3 seconds and than only 5.5 Mbit. Others (newer) Laptops show 450 Mbit. The WLAN works with WPA2/AES and PSK. The speed doesn't go up, if we copy a big file to the laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have recently deployed Cisco APs (2600 series) in our org. but we are facing alot of bandwidth/speed issues. when a single user is copying or pasting any data into the network, the speed seems ok, but when multiple-users start copying data , so the data-rate speed gets slower and slower as the users are increasing.
Can any one tell me what is the issue? Why the internal data rate speed gets shared between users? i think each user should bydefault get any specific data rate speed, but that is what not happening on our end.
I have a couple of 2600 APs (external antenna) which are getting PoE from my switch but no ethernet. This is happening on both APs. If I connect a laptop to the (cat5e) cable I get ethernet. If i move the AP to another patch lead adjacent to my switch I get ethernet connectivity too. So, change the cable is the answer I thought, however I have exactly the same issue on both APs and each ethernet cable has been reterminated a number of times (straight through). I wonder is the 2600 AP less tolerant to the actual ethernet cable ?
I just swap the cable, however the patch leads have been run (only 15m or so) and have been replaced once - relaying again is not an easy job. It's more a case of reterminating the cable that is already there and as I've already done this a few times on each patch lead and the results are the same each time I'm thinking I'm missing something obvious.
We have a couple of autonomous 1262's that I'd like to get configured. I would like to put the Ethernet interface out on our Internet subnet and have the clients get a RFC 1918 address from the radio's. Our little Linksys is setup this way and the clients are PAT'ing off the Ethernet interface when they go to the Internet.
Is this possible with these guys or do I have to put the AP ethernet interface into the same subnet with the DHCP scope? I don't have enough Internet IP's to hand out to every wireless client.
When have downloaded the c1250-k9w7-tar.152-2.JA.tar and attempted to load into a 1250 via tftp the process aborts with the following message. [code]

It times outs on TFTP server when you hold the mode button (a 3500 is working fine doing the same thing).
I try the old school way of archive download-sw but it isn't fast enough before it re-dhcp's because it can't find a controller. "*Mar 1 01:17:51.123: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP..' Even if I set a static IP address.
Is there way to disable the join process while I upgrade the software? I guess fire up a controller for it to join. I hope I don't have to have a controller to convert these.
I have an AIR-LAP1142 that I'm trying to load the autonomous software onto. I reset the AP with the mode button held down as per instructions. When I release, it attempts to download c1140-k9w7-tar.default from my pc running tftpd62. Several connections are made and then it eventually times out. I tried another machine (also win7 x64) and it fails there too exactly the same.
TFTP logs show:

how to convert a 3502 access point from Autonomous to Lightweight ? 3502 has a new IOS released back in Dec 2012 to work as staandalone mode. I need to convert this back to Lightweight mode.
I have been searching on web but have had no luck so far with anything. Tried converting it to lightweight in the same way as putting it on Autonomous IOS but errored out.
I'm trying to configure a 2602i and I know there is a way to access the web GUI to accomplish this but I'm unsure if I have to access CLI to assign the AP and IP or if it already has a default IP?If it has an default IP

The AP is running version 12.4(25d).After multiple tries of configurating, I keep getting the same issue: as soon as I connect to the SSID, I can enter the username and password but authentication fails - hence the message in my console:

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy question relates to how many clients can be connected to a 2600 series AP. The documentation states 200 clients per radio and the AP has three radios. However when my AP gets to 200 it rejects further clients with the following log: [code] I see this exact message many times and each time the radio mac address is the same and the number of clients connected is 199. The same mac address is used for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz so does this AP have a single logical radio covering both 2.4 and 5ghz frequency ranges and is the limit for all connected clients 200?When viewing the AP details under the Wireless tab it only lists one mac address for each AP for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.

I see that the datasheet states that it is 450mbps, however, from my understanding of transmit beamforming (client link 2.0), when traffic is "beamformed" to a client it cannot use spatial multiplexing on the same antenna as well. If this is the case, with the 2600 only having 3 transmit antennas, does this mean that the max throughput to a client when using clientlink is 300mb ?
If not, how the AP transmit at 450mbps and beamforms at the same time.
