Cisco Wireless :: Bridging VLANs With WAP200E?
Sep 17, 2010
I'm trying to bridge two buildings with two WAP200E. The connectivity is fine, but I'm only able to get one VLAN through the bridge. That is the default VLAN 1 wich is untagged. I have two additional VLANs wich is tagged. I can not get these two through the bridge. I have set up a single SSID, and enabled VLAN. I have also tried to set up more than one SSID, mapping each VLAN to separate SSID's, but bridging several SSID's between two AP's make the AP's loose connectivity periodically. What would be the propper way of bridging several VLANs between two WAP200E ?

We have a pair of 1310's (running 12.3(8)JEA3) connecting 2 buildings together. The wired side of each AP is connected to switchports configured as access ports.
But, now we need to extend multiple VLANs across the wireless bridge. So I'm thinking I just need to configure some sub-interfaces on the radio side and ethernet side and bridge them together. But I'm unclear on if I need an SSID for each bridge group. I would hope not. But after reading this, I'm not sure. Most of the documentation seems to be dealing with wireless clients. Well, in this case I don't have any wireless clients and just need to extend VLANs.
These 2 sites are hundreds of miles away from where I am, and I don't have any 1310's to test this out on. Should I be able to load similar software on other AP's (like 1142's) and have them function as bridges to test this out?

I have a 3 building client currently on a single LAN/subnet/VLAN1. The client wants to install two public APs in their other buildings. I have selected the Cisco WAP4410n for a few reasons, Price, as budget is a factor for them, the 4410n can have up to 4 SSIDs, and can accommodate different VLANs, and it is PoE.
The public side is to have no access to the LAN, just the internet.According to the documents I have read on the 4410, I am to create two SSIDs, one not broadcasted (VLAN1) and one that is broadcasted and public (VLAN2) Both SSIDs would be Isolated from each other.
I assign the switch port attached to the AP to VLAN2, but cannot access the internet. I believe that the two VLANs need to be bridged in either a L3 switch or a router, is this correct? Is that the only way I will be able to get internet access in this situation?A while back someone posted a link to a Cisco workshop. It was set in a spaceship, and the student, me, had to get internet access to different parts of the ship by installing different APs and antennas. Also had to give the people and aliens on the ship different levels of access.

I'm currently using DLSW to bridge a VLAN to a remote site and it works fine. I've been reading up on L2TPv3 and now I'm wondering if one is better than the other for my purposes (my hardware will support both), especially if multiple VLANS are being bridge to the remote site. We do not have an MPLS infrastructure, so that's not an option.

We have a customer that is relocating thier headquarters. They have a temporary requirement to bridge multiple vlans or a router T3 link to the new location as they cannot change the IP subnets. Setup is 3560 switch connecting to a 3845 then T3 to remote 3845 and 3560. I need to bridge multiple VLANs. I have seen a good example on how to do it over sonet but I don't see how to translate that to an HDLC or Frame Relay encapsulation for the T3 Link.

how to power a WAP200E. In the datasheet it mentions it supports POE, however the customer does not have a POE switch and for one WAP220E is not willing to purchase.
What other options do we have? Is there a power supply for this AP?

Just setup two WAP200E's, the bridge is "Connected" as I look Status > System Performance in both WAP's. However, I cannot get to the LAN from one network to the next. Cannot even ping the WAP's from either side.
I already have two WAP200E's on this network, that have been working well for month (164 day uptime), and they are configured with a wireless bridge between them, both networks on the same LAN (same 192.168.2.x network on either side). The bridge names are different, different from the main WiFi in the building, too (if it makes a difference), and the static IPs the WAPs have don't appear to have any conflicts on the network.
This is actually three buildings, one is the main one with a Cisco SR520 for a router, and a Cisco SF 200-24P switch. So two WAP200E's go into this switch now, and I see them both fine when going into the management interface. Then each of the other buildings has one WAP200E, and a small Netgear 8 port PoE gigabit switch at each building to power the WAP.
The Netgear switches aren't managed, and I've made sure any features like STP, VLANs, etc. are turned off. And the Cisco SF 200 switch is set at auto and all the defaults mostly, particularly for the ports. I tried doing a SmartPort for this latest WAP200E and that didn't change anything, tried disabling STP for it too, and no change. The PoE port for the working WAP200E is identical in config to the PoE port for the new WAP200E, and both show forwarding, all VLANs admitted (none are enabled, no VLAN tagging, etc.).
So now I am wondering if I can have two WAP200E's into one switch? Or two bridges on the same LAN subnet? Or is there something else I am missing or should configure?

WAP200E access point that causes it to reboot after anything from 15 to 20 mins .I have run it off an injector and a POE switch, updated the f/w to WAP200E-ETSI-FW-2.0.3.0 and it still reboots itself .I have even been sent a new one from the supplier and it does the same thing.

I purchased a Linksys WAP200E Wireless-G Exterior Access Point – PoE and a HGA9N (9dBi) High Gain Omni-Directional Antenna through CDW Canada about three (3) years ago in April/2009. The first year it worked great and gave complete coverage throughout the Campground. The second year it started to become increasing less coverage and now in the third year, it has very poor coverage. I have purchased and installed a new Microcom HG2415U-PRO (15dBi) HyperGain Outdoor Omni Directional Antenna. This has NOT made any improvement so I am now thinking that the WAP200E Access Point is the faulty equipment. I have changed the channel to number 11 and still no improvement. The Signal Strength is only Good and then dropping to Fair and sometimes no signal at all. This is from a line of sight location that is only 60 yards (180 feet or 54.9 metres) away. There are no objects between the Antenna and the computer.

I have 3 WAP200e APs in a client site and I am having a problem with the signal between the APs and Motorola 9000 barcode scanners. The first one went in about 6 months ago and it worked fine. The client then asked for two more to be installed in a couple of rooms adjacent to the room where the first AP was installed. They use barcode scanners with these APs and since the two new ones were installed, the first on is dropping the connection to the scanner. I have turned the new APs off and everything is back to normal. I have reduced the power output of the two new APs and the situation has improved, but they still get problems, especially on Monday morning, where it won't work at all for the first few hours, and then bursts into life and works fine for the rest of the week.

I have a customer with a linux OS machine running Cisco Wireless Controll System.
He needs are to add a new wireless AP with the following features :
- compatible with most laptops
- exterior conditions "resistant" (sun, rain...)
- reasonnable performance (the AP would be a a roof with people on the roof itself, max distance : 15 meters, no walls)
I saw the WAP200E but I have no idea, if it is compatible with Cisco Wireless Control System

I connect only Wap200e to SW2960 and I check the 15.4watts, but I suposed that WAP 200E doesn't respond, because WAP 200e doesn't turn on.I need to put to grown, or put some device before on connect to SW2960 to WAP 2000E.

I'm using 4 wap200 cisco AP, 1 wap200e linksys AP and 1 cisco sf300-24p switch. Every AP has 2 SSIDs,one is for clients and one for mobile devices.I have updated the equipment to the latest firmware but I still encounter the same issue. The mobile devices go through APs and once every 2 days, my wap200e blocks its lan interface. I suspected a stp issue, because the switch was seeing MAC addresses coming from different ports. So I disabled STP on the switch and on the AP. The annoying thing thing is that none of my other antennas get cut off.I tried replacing it with a cisco wap200e,same issue.

My current project is to have a printer that actually works. You don't need one often, but when you do you really need one. I'd like the printer to be wireless as we all use laptops but don't want to have the printer near the router.
The simple solution is to shell out for a wireless printer, but I have access to a cheap (and good) ethernet only printer. Now, how to connect it? I have a spare old router, which I'm thinking of connecting to the printer. I'd then have to get the router to join the network (is that possible?) or somehow bridge them. The to devices to join would be this and this.

Today I want to build a wireless bridge using AIR-AP1131AG (running WLC) and TP-LINK wireless router. The result is failed. May I know AIR-AP1131AG is support bridging the wireless connection with other vendor's access point or not?
In the TP-Link I already match its SSID, Channel and put the mac-address of the AIR-AP1131AG. In the WLC I already see too TP-LINK mac-address is already become a client.

I have a redundant Cisco EPC2425 that I want to use as a wireless bridge to connect to my current home router (an EPC3925).
I have got the channels/band/keys matching yet the 2425 is failing to connect to my home router. I have set the 2425 in bridge mode and currently can only set the wireless properties.
I have both ends of the supposed bridge referencing the other's MAC.
When I try to enter advanced settings on the 2425 I get a notice that the function has not been enabled.
What can I try to get these two boxes talking to each other?

I have a desktop connected to a wireless network. I have a router that will be used to allow open access to the internet without allowing direct access to the existing network, There is no ethernet connection in the area and this router was ree with limited features. So no Wifi as WAN I want to use the desktop's ethernet NIC to obtain a WAN connection. For now I can not setup a VLAN and must configure the two networks as poorly described. Sadly I am not familiar with bridging connections in XP and am unsure about specifics. Also, as a quick test, I bridged the connections and lost wireless connectivity.

I 've bought an AP541N & WAP4410N for the purpose to wireless(ly) bridge my TV with the Internet. The AP541N is connected to a AS5505 > Internet. My TV is connected to the ethernet port of the WAP4410N. (Also tried my laptop) I 've set WDS bridging on both APs:
- with and without encryption
- with same and different SSID and/or channel
In AP541N I can see that the WDS is up. However I cann't ping the WAP441N (hardset IP-address in same subnet as AP541N) from the AP541N. Therefore not strange that my TV/laptop doesn't get an ip-address through DHCP.
Although I tried this for home purposes, I gathered that if it worked it would be a nice SMB solution. I 'm a freelancer and I want to be sure that what I propose as a solution/option actually works.
I 've read in this forum that it might not work because of incompatible chipsets? If this is the case Cisco should mention in the datasheets so I don't waste my money or loose my credibility !

I currently have a 2811 and a LAN setup via a sub-interface FA0/1.3 and using a HWIC-AP I have a sub-interface dot11radio 0/1.5. I have them setup to work and surf the inet great, but I have recently been overly annoyed with the fact that the wifi cannot access windows shares on desktops and visa versa with the laptops.
The trick to make this happen is currently they are not on the same subnet. I know the answer is bridging the interfaces but when I do this using the simple commands:
bridge 1 protocol ieee
interface x & y
bridge-group 1
Although what should be simple has failed (good thing I tftp'd my working config). Here is my current configuration.
interface FastEthernet0/1.30
encapsulation dot1Q 30
ip address 192.168.3.1 255.255.255.0

just wanted to know if the SA520W can wirelessly bridge (Workgroup bridge, WDS, etc -don't care which) to either an AP541N or AP1252... using WPA2-PSK
the 2 seperate examples would be
Internet --->SA520W --(Wireless 30 feet) --->AP541N -->ESW-540-24P-K9
internet --->Sa520W --(Wireless 30 feet)----> AP1252 -->ESW-540-24P-K9
internet --->AP1252 ---(Wireless 30 feet) ---->SA520W-->ESW-540-24P-K9
in other words do you just go into the config of the SA520W ... enter in an existing SSID name and the WPA2-PSK password and it joins that wireless network. lastly does the SA520W support POE to the switch above or only the AP541N

I have my internet coming into my WAG120N and going out wirelessly. I want to setup a wireless bridge between this and an E1500, so I can connect my TV to the E1500 (via an ethernet cable) and have it access the internet. Unfortunatly I can run a cable from the WAG120N to where the TV is. So it I can get the E1500 wirelessly bridged to the WAG120N? I have updated the firmware ont he E1500 to get Bridging support, but from what I can tell it only provides bridging via an ethernet cable. Is there away to bridge wirelessly?
