Cisco Wireless :: How To Manage Wireless / Bridging On 857W
Nov 4, 2012
I'm trying to configure an 857W to provide Internet connection via ADSL to LAN and WLAN clients on different networks, provided by DHCP. From the documentation, I see that the 857W supports 1 wired VLAN and 10 wireless VLAN. As the only VLAN which can be explicitly configured is VLAN1, which I want to manage the router, for the Wireless sections I have used VLAN11 and VLAN12.

I have a Cisco 857W router which I have aquired without cost. I want to use the wireless abilities of this router to be the wireless point to get into my home lab while I am studying for my CCNA and beyond.
I have erased it to its factory settings. There is no ADSL connection to it just yet, I might connect in to my internet connection another time. Not just yet.
I dont even know where to begin. I have searched all the internet and there is nothing really anything there to guide me to set it up from the very beginning.

my trouble is I have a cisco 857w and I have never configured a wireless config for a cisco router before. Ok so i have had a go through the web interface (i know, last resort) and still no joy
Basically what im looking for is to have a visible (broadcast ssid) network with a password (WEP/WPA/WPA2, not picky) and it to be joined to the same vlan as the ethernet ports (VLAN 1).

I want to install a pair of 5508 to manage the whole wireless solution and I have a few questions regarding deployment, Please refer to the topology. The management and ap manager interfaces are conifgured with the same ip address range and thus the same vlan which is 10.160.254.X/24 also all the APs(1,2,3) in that building have the same IP address range for management which will be manually conifgured. The AP's (4 and 5) on the other building have another range of IP address for management and here is the first question. Will the AP's 4 and 5 join the WLC if I manually configure them to point to it? I know I can group interfaces and use them with the same SSID BUT the WLAN vlan in both sides are different and are separated by a router and hence the next question: Can this be done even if they are separated? and if I can, how is this possible, should I configure a dynamic interface in the WLC with an IP of that network even if it doesn't exists on that side? I'm kind of confused with this.

My current project is to have a printer that actually works. You don't need one often, but when you do you really need one. I'd like the printer to be wireless as we all use laptops but don't want to have the printer near the router.
The simple solution is to shell out for a wireless printer, but I have access to a cheap (and good) ethernet only printer. Now, how to connect it? I have a spare old router, which I'm thinking of connecting to the printer. I'd then have to get the router to join the network (is that possible?) or somehow bridge them. The to devices to join would be this and this.

Today I want to build a wireless bridge using AIR-AP1131AG (running WLC) and TP-LINK wireless router. The result is failed. May I know AIR-AP1131AG is support bridging the wireless connection with other vendor's access point or not?
In the TP-Link I already match its SSID, Channel and put the mac-address of the AIR-AP1131AG. In the WLC I already see too TP-LINK mac-address is already become a client.

I have a redundant Cisco EPC2425 that I want to use as a wireless bridge to connect to my current home router (an EPC3925).
I have got the channels/band/keys matching yet the 2425 is failing to connect to my home router. I have set the 2425 in bridge mode and currently can only set the wireless properties.
I have both ends of the supposed bridge referencing the other's MAC.
When I try to enter advanced settings on the 2425 I get a notice that the function has not been enabled.
What can I try to get these two boxes talking to each other?

I'm trying to bridge two buildings with two WAP200E. The connectivity is fine, but I'm only able to get one VLAN through the bridge. That is the default VLAN 1 wich is untagged. I have two additional VLANs wich is tagged. I can not get these two through the bridge. I have set up a single SSID, and enabled VLAN. I have also tried to set up more than one SSID, mapping each VLAN to separate SSID's, but bridging several SSID's between two AP's make the AP's loose connectivity periodically. What would be the propper way of bridging several VLANs between two WAP200E ?

I have a desktop connected to a wireless network. I have a router that will be used to allow open access to the internet without allowing direct access to the existing network, There is no ethernet connection in the area and this router was ree with limited features. So no Wifi as WAN I want to use the desktop's ethernet NIC to obtain a WAN connection. For now I can not setup a VLAN and must configure the two networks as poorly described. Sadly I am not familiar with bridging connections in XP and am unsure about specifics. Also, as a quick test, I bridged the connections and lost wireless connectivity.

I 've bought an AP541N & WAP4410N for the purpose to wireless(ly) bridge my TV with the Internet. The AP541N is connected to a AS5505 > Internet. My TV is connected to the ethernet port of the WAP4410N. (Also tried my laptop) I 've set WDS bridging on both APs:
- with and without encryption
- with same and different SSID and/or channel
In AP541N I can see that the WDS is up. However I cann't ping the WAP441N (hardset IP-address in same subnet as AP541N) from the AP541N. Therefore not strange that my TV/laptop doesn't get an ip-address through DHCP.
Although I tried this for home purposes, I gathered that if it worked it would be a nice SMB solution. I 'm a freelancer and I want to be sure that what I propose as a solution/option actually works.
I 've read in this forum that it might not work because of incompatible chipsets? If this is the case Cisco should mention in the datasheets so I don't waste my money or loose my credibility !

I currently have a 2811 and a LAN setup via a sub-interface FA0/1.3 and using a HWIC-AP I have a sub-interface dot11radio 0/1.5. I have them setup to work and surf the inet great, but I have recently been overly annoyed with the fact that the wifi cannot access windows shares on desktops and visa versa with the laptops.
The trick to make this happen is currently they are not on the same subnet. I know the answer is bridging the interfaces but when I do this using the simple commands:
bridge 1 protocol ieee
interface x & y
bridge-group 1
Although what should be simple has failed (good thing I tftp'd my working config). Here is my current configuration.
interface FastEthernet0/1.30
encapsulation dot1Q 30
ip address 192.168.3.1 255.255.255.0

We have a pair of 1310's (running 12.3(8)JEA3) connecting 2 buildings together. The wired side of each AP is connected to switchports configured as access ports.
But, now we need to extend multiple VLANs across the wireless bridge. So I'm thinking I just need to configure some sub-interfaces on the radio side and ethernet side and bridge them together. But I'm unclear on if I need an SSID for each bridge group. I would hope not. But after reading this, I'm not sure. Most of the documentation seems to be dealing with wireless clients. Well, in this case I don't have any wireless clients and just need to extend VLANs.
These 2 sites are hundreds of miles away from where I am, and I don't have any 1310's to test this out on. Should I be able to load similar software on other AP's (like 1142's) and have them function as bridges to test this out?

just wanted to know if the SA520W can wirelessly bridge (Workgroup bridge, WDS, etc -don't care which) to either an AP541N or AP1252... using WPA2-PSK
the 2 seperate examples would be
Internet --->SA520W --(Wireless 30 feet) --->AP541N -->ESW-540-24P-K9
internet --->Sa520W --(Wireless 30 feet)----> AP1252 -->ESW-540-24P-K9
internet --->AP1252 ---(Wireless 30 feet) ---->SA520W-->ESW-540-24P-K9
in other words do you just go into the config of the SA520W ... enter in an existing SSID name and the WPA2-PSK password and it joins that wireless network. lastly does the SA520W support POE to the switch above or only the AP541N

I have my internet coming into my WAG120N and going out wirelessly. I want to setup a wireless bridge between this and an E1500, so I can connect my TV to the E1500 (via an ethernet cable) and have it access the internet. Unfortunatly I can run a cable from the WAG120N to where the TV is. So it I can get the E1500 wirelessly bridged to the WAG120N? I have updated the firmware ont he E1500 to get Bridging support, but from what I can tell it only provides bridging via an ethernet cable. Is there away to bridge wirelessly?

Is there any management software available to manage 5 or so AP541N running across a WAN. Eg we have a couple of VAP's setup on each access point 1 for staff and 1 for guests. I just bought the Cisco E1200 about two weeks ago to replace an older Linksys non wireless router. With my old Linksys, I had an Acess Point installed, a trendnet TEW-638APB. Now that I have the new Cisco E1200 which itself is wireless, I'd like to add my TrendNet Access Point to the netowork and extend the wireless range. However the place in the house I want to put it does not have any CAT-5 cable running to it so I'm trying to set up a bridged connection between the two. I'm a bit new to netoworking stuff but I catch on pretty quick. I've been doing research on it all day between the TrendNet AP and the Cisco E1200 but I'm still a little lost. I've got WDS enabled on the TrendNet AP and have the first MAC address set to the Wireless MAC address of the E1200 but I don't get what to make the next three MAC address. Somone told me to make all 3 of them 00:00:00:00:00:00. Is that correct?
I also have both the E1200 and the TrendNet AP set to the same channel, both are on a 20Mhz channel width, Both have the same SSID though I'm pretty sure that doesn't matter in the long run from what I've read. Also, no incryption on either (no need for it out here).So I guess I'm just wondering how do I use the E1200 as a Wireless Base Station? If that's what it's called? I have upgraded the firmware of the E1200 from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03 but that didn't change anything in regards to seeing an option for a bridging mode or anything. Other than that I'm not sure what else to do.

I'm a little stuck with a 4400 7.0.220.0 + RAP 1550 + MAP 1260 Ethernet bridging issue. I'm using the VLAN tagging functionality and I'm finding that periodically a VLAN that I've tagged on the MAP will deregister from the backhaul and stop passing traffic. If I go into the Mesh tab on the MAP, select the wired interface, remove the VLAN from the list of tagged VLAN IDs and then add it right back to the list, its starts passing traffic again

I have established dual-rlans on different segments.I have a 2960g switch. I created vl2 (management) and vl3 (data).I connected rlan1 (port4) to vl2 and rlan2 (port3) to vl3.My laptop receives a dhcp address on vl3 and the switch (in dhcp mode) receives it's proper address on vl2.Unfortunately a MAC is assigned to each vl and to the management interface. Thats 3 out of the 2 sets of 4.
So a managed switch is NOT the desired device to have on the back side of an OEAP600.In any case doing a show mac address-table revealed that all the vl2 MAC addresses were duplicated on vl3.To the tune of 216 addresses. 108 in each vlan. Which is a close match to the current host counts for each segment 98 + 18.Obviously this application is not what was envisioned by the OEAP team during work-up.The goal of 4 host devices on the rlan is proving difficult to achieve.The client wants 2 pc's and 2 digi-port servers.

The setup:
(1) E3000 as root router - IP: 192.168.1.1 - DHCP Server: Enabled - Start IP Add: 192.168.1.100
(2) TL-WR841N as bridge - IP:192.168.1.2 - DHCP Server: Disabled - WDS Enabled
The problem:I bridged (2) Wirelessly to (1).when i'm connected to (1) there seem to be no problem at all, the internet is working just fine and i can even ping & connect (2), i guess that means the bridging is working.But when im connected to (2), I get a 'limited connection' & I can't connect the internet. I also can't ping & connect to (2).The IP assigned for the computer that is connected to (2) Wirelessly is not matching the DHCP confg. (169.254.228.216).I have reason to belive that the problem is somehow from a wrong configuration with the LinkSys router but i dont know what it could be. i started from scratch, reseting the two routers over and over again while trying different configurations but with no luck.
